Wow! Well done!!

Well it’s clearly been a while since I was here - the path entrance is overgrown & the chimney has fallen over but Santa is still there, now about 1.5m in the air but with a new dry log & good to go.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 46. Atherton Day 1. For my first day based in Atherton, I went on a day trip to Yungaburra. It is an interesting small village perched on the side of the main road. Around the village I tried for a few multi's, only one out of three. I then visited the Afghan war memorial down by the lake and then headed a bit further afield for a few more caches.

This bit of rainforest was very impressive. I had an enjoyable walk around the plot locating both caches along the way.

Thanks for the cache Arachnauts

This was an easier find than it’s companion. It was nowhere near as well comoflaged by the natural surroundings

Headed out from Tolga today to explore more of this lovely area, and to find a few caches on our way. It wasn’t a great start to our caching day as we missed a lot of the multis around Yungaburra, but rectified that with finding some trads. Can’t win on all of the hides, even though we always set out expecting to find them!
Thanks to all the local CO’s for developing and maintaining a diverse variety of hides. We appreciate your efforts.

We started our walk and headed downhill to Christmas Nymph then continued around the circuit and headed uphill and kept our eyes peeled for the faint path. Here we ducked into the bushes feeling very much like the short film that was shown at the GIFF event last year.
Even under the trees and with the rain the GPS played nice here and the cache was quickly found. This cache is in good condition. SL TFTC

Saturday is garage sale day, so we accompanied our friends to Yungaburra looking for bargains. There was still some time till the official start and the five of us had a little walk. Completely unprepared, in thongs and without a pen we had a look at the gc map. Well then fotologs it is today (we usually don't do), found easily walking uphill.

Walked across from the Christmas Nymph cache and enjoyed the park. Made my way to this location easily thanks to good directions (even though I was going uphill not down). Found the chimney, and the mozzies found me!
Left a small brass bell for the Christmas tree. Signed log and hurried off before the mozzies called all their mates.
Thanks for this cache Arachnauts

On a wander around this bit of rainforest this morning,
I headed for this Christmassy spot to say hi to Santa Smile
I've been good this year,
so expected a quick cache find Wink

But on me first attempt the GPS led me astray [:o]
And after 10 minutes of searching I remained cacheless !! [:o]
'Bout then one of Santa's reindeer turned up ...
... it looked more like a black dog ...
... but reindeer is more in keeping with the cache theme Smile

Of course with the dog ... reindeer, barking at me,
the owner wouldn't be far behind.
So off I wandered up the hill.
A couple of minutes later the reindeer and it's owner wandered past and said hi Smile

So I wandered down the hill again,
and discovered that the GPS was pointing somewhere completely different !!
Thanks secret Santa and you dog,
whoever you were Smile

Cache was and easy find the second time around [^]
Well that's me 'smilie' stocking stuffed for this year Big Grin

A nice, quiet section of rainforest, where the only inhabitants that we disturbed were a couple of scrub turkeys.
A cute container too. We added our name to the cache log.
Thanks for the hide.

While staying in the beautiful Tablelands we chose a lovely clear sunny day to attempt some caches around Peeramon and Yungaburra.

We had ten caches to be found and they were all hidden by this CO so we knew we were in for some great hides

We thoroughly enjoyed our nice little walk through this beautiful rainforest. So glad that the public are permitted in this area

This is where my caching mojo kicked in and while Geohubby searched far and wide I found Santa in his secret hiding place. That is quite a chimney he came down....lucky he is still in one piece.

Many thanks Arachnauts...a favourite point on it’s way

I slopped my way through the mud to find this cache, and was attacked by the dreaded wait-a-while vine. This is a really cute container.

30-May-19
Having found the sister cache on the other side of the rainforest we wandered over to this one. This is a beautiful piece of vegetation. I'm sure there are downsides to rainforests (leeches, mosquitoes etc.), but I think they are wonderful. Arachnauts kindly answered all my questions about what is this plant? What is that plant? and we had a great time (well I did). Very cute container this one - well suited to the elements. TFTC.

Checked cache - it has moved slightly due to its original location deteriorating but is otherwise ok. Thanks to DeBomb for replacing the container, your services to geocaching are much appreciated!

This was our last cache for the day as the coolness of the area was setting in. After a lovey walk through the area. We found the path/track. Please be careful of the wait awhile plant as it is across the path and stops you in your tracks. Some minor maintenance was made on the log container due to a hole in the bottom of the existing container, so we replaced it and double bagged the container to keep it dry and placed it safely back in its place. TFTC.

This seems to be a real Christmas forestSurprised! We followed the advice in the description. Santa must be somewhere around here to hibernate until the next festive season. However, we were able to find him and to very silently sign the log without waking him up from his well earned deep sleep[^].

A bit of tough terrain but was great fun looking for it. Thanks.

28-Dec-18
Poor old Santa was out in the open next to a drink can, but luckily unscathed (perhaps found by muggles who in the spirit of Christmas...or because they were worried that Santa was watching...decided not to take him). We wedged him back into his hiding spot. We had a lovely morning in this little park and look forward to coming back for the nymph...it just got a little wet (even for those of us who live here). Thanks arachnauts.
