08-Dec-23
Day 5: The CatlinsOur journey today took us down to the Catlins for a whirlwind tour of all the sights we could squeeze into a day trip. Of course, there were geocaches to be had too, plus plenty of photos and sightseeing. Thankfully the weather held up for most parts today, so we could enjoy all the great scenery and the geocaches as well!(end of the cut and paste bit)I am happy to report that the picnic area is now marked with a sign, so we didnt have any trouble trying to find the GZ. The GZ had quite a few hosts and many plants, so it was a struggle getting to the cache. But, thanks for another diversion! TFTC!

10-Apr-23
One of 10 caches (not including a local Ad Lab) we located today in driving around The Catlins. Made hard work of finding this one. There seemed to be several hint objects from which to choose. The ones closest to GZ (as per the coords on my iPhone) didn’t yield the cache. After reading through a few logs I searched a little further away and found it fairly quickly. My coords were showing 7m away at that point which, I guess, is possibly within the “margin of error”. #6057. TFTC.

During our short search for this one it started raining heavily, so we got quite wet...

10-Mar-23
We almost overshot this small unmarked picnic area. Finding it took a while, I followed what appeared to be a geotrail a few steps into the bush and floundered around in there for quite a while. In the end posted a DNF on my GPS. Then one last wander along the mown grass edge before getting back in our car and there it was only partly covered and easily spotted at the edge of the grass. Attempted to cover a little better to keep out of full view. Thanks Natalie247 for this hard earned smiley!

31-Jan-23
No problems finding this one. In fact it just lay in plain sight as we got up to GZ. We tucked it back in a bit more concealed. Thanks for placing this cache.

11-Jan-23
In the area doing the Penguin AdLab, and heading down to Invercargill for the night, to go over to Stewart Island to complete the PWGT... thought I'd stop and grab this too, as I think it will help with GC9RQ1G. Had no issues making a find here.

TFTC Natalie247, the cache was found in good order Very Happy Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 10 find(s) of 14 today, making this find #3763

I'm doing a road trip through Southland. Today's leg is from Dunedin to Invercargill by way of the Catlins and Bluff. Old School Challenge caches are the focus of the trip, but there's a few others to look for along the way as well. This was a nice spot to stop and eat the tasty lunch I brought from the 4 square in Owaka. TFTC

A great place for a late picnic lunch.
This cache was found on our second summer campervan trip. JDScout and I plan to do three this summer. This trip is from Christchurch to Bannockburn to the Catlins and back.

Thanks for hiding this cache Natalie247 I appreciate it. It has helped add an extra layer of fun in our holiday.

#10,374. Carrying on in my exploration of the Catlins. Overshot this picnic area so had to back track. There are several objects here that match with the hint. I checked out two others before finding the cache in the third spot. All nice and secure. Rescued a trackable. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks Natalie247 for pointing out this not roadside rest stop.

As the country enters Level 4 (lockdown), https://covid19.govt.nz

It is strongly recommend that whilst we go for a walk for exercise, we need to take care on shared surfaces and geocaching should not be done at this time; https://wiki.groundspeak.com/display/GEO/New+Zealand

To remove temptation, I am disabling this cache and ask kindly that you do not find this cache during lockdown.

Remember there is more than physically finding a cache, there are plenty of puzzle caches you can do at home. Or if you live near a multi you can walk the trail and save the find for another day. For more info or connect with wider community see Geocaching New Zealand on Facebook.

Stay home, stay safe and save lives.

Mrs Hazzer and I went on a roadie to collect some souvenirs, seeing as we can't travel to these places in real life currently we made the most of our own backyard instead. After a few cuts and scratches and just as we were about to flag it, Mrs Hazzer came across it. TFTC

07-Feb-21
A low-terrain Waitangi weekend excursion to the Catlins. Took a while to find this one - the GPS led us into the trees which is an area used for drinking and toileting... yuk... Then sticking to the roadside, a bit away from GZ, checked what fitted the hint, under trimmed branches and rotten logs. Then felt we couldn't leave the rubbish so cleaned up what bottles we could find and took them away.

Quick snag and tag here on the way past. Cheers.

Tuesday 10 November. We are camped out in Owaka. Its exploring Nugget Point, Kaka Point and up towards Balclutha today. Then Moving Zara along to Balclutha later today. Lets move!

Toby, Zara and I are on a 3 week geo adventure of Cromwell, Southland, Catlins, Balclutha with a day in Dunedin and quick stop in Timaru. With Lenny, my trusty navigator and TBD my companion/mascot. we managed to visit lots of green boxes, now happy faces with the odd sad one. Did some LABs , earth caches, virtuals and wherigos, all chucked into the mix to rack up 500 odd caches. Lots of kilometers, lots of exploring and lots of fun. Thanks to all COs for our wonderful experience.

Day 14 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)

Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.

I haven't been this far south since my very first visit to NZ back in 1988, and have never visited the Catlins before but had heard so many good things about it that decided I would put that right this trip. Having spent last night near Ahuriri Flat, today's plan was to meander my way through loads of sightseeing (and caching) opportunities to end up in Invercargill by nightfall. For the first time on my whole trip, I wasn't to get brilliant sunshine all day long but considering the time of year I was still being very fortunate.

It was still early(ish) when I pulled up at this cache. This was effectively a quick park n grab for me and I was happy to see that there was no-one else around to bother me as I conducted my search. I found the cache with little fuss. There were no issues with the container or log, which was signed before everything was replaced exactly as found and I was back on my way towards some waterfalls Smile

Thanks for placing this cache.
