Found by Mary and David at 17:28. Back in mid-September, our VIC1 group planned a couple of days at Bright to tackle the SNOMO and F.L.A.K.E. caches. Today we started at the top of the Old Coach Road and cached our way down the mountain. Then we did the caches along the West Ovens Track, before tidying up some unknowns, trads and multis close to town. Finished off the day with a delicious dinner at the Harrietville Hotel. Our thanks to Jamin Appleford.

A rather lovely swimming hole here, as I am about to find out!But before that, a quaint little wander around the waterhole was required to really assess what we were working with.Ah who am I kidding, I'm just here for the caches! There was a nearby rope swing that I was initially tempted by, but decided to give a pass.I thought I was in for a bit of annoying bush bashing, but luckily there was a path straight to the cache!Along the way there was a very strange metal pipe that we observed, kind of resembled a torpedo if I must be honest! The cache was quickly located at GZ thanks to the spoiler photo, all in good condition!Time to take a plunge! Thanks for placing this cache Jamin Appleford!

Found by The Empire + HAfter arriving in Harrietville, we made our way to the Tronoh Dredge Reserve, a serene spot known for its picturesque walking trails and history. The reserve was once the site of gold mining, and today, the remnants of that era can still be seen amidst the tranquil surroundings. We followed the trail around the lake, its calm waters reflecting the surrounding trees and distant mountains. The walk was peaceful, with the sounds of birds and rustling leaves filling the air. The path wound through a mix of open areas and shaded pockets of forest, offering plenty of spots to pause and take in the beauty of the reserve. As we circled back, the history of the area was evident in the landscape, but nature had long since reclaimed it, making the Tronoh Dredge Reserve a perfect blend of heritage and natural beauty. Thanks for the cache Jamin Appleford.-M

We brought the inflatable yak with us on this trip. After completing the nearby virtual cache, we enjoyed a lovely stroll to the GZ. The spoiler photo helped with a quick find. Its a gorgeous area! Next time, well make sure its summer so we can take a dip in the pond. Thanks Jamin Appleford.

Up bright and early today we were out the door well before 9am! Today we were concentrating on Snomo caches and any others we came across. We had solved the clever snomo caches in bits and bobs since they were published, down to a stubborn few which we then solved on a girls puzzle night Smile This one was a trad near a snomo and we enjoyed the walk around the swimmng hole. Great that the history of this place has been preserved. So we accidentally zigged a bit too early and so the spoiler photo was extremely helpful as there was nothing remotely like it where we went off track... whoops! Back on to the track we then found the right GZ and the cache was a nice easy find! TFTCJaminAppleford - GJMMelb

I had looked for this cache on a previous occasion, without success. Today I had a local friend with me, and I realised that I had approached from the wrong direction. The container soon revealed itself, and we found the log in good condition. What a fantastic location this is, with the lovely lake, and the trees on the shoreline providing shade for picnickers. Thanks for bringing us here Jamin Appleford.

Overnight visit to Mt Hotham working with the old man. Family came along for the ride. Actually, our first time up here - drive up - is nothing short of amazing. After a bit of lunch at the nearby pub we headed over to the park for the kids to have a play. We then headed up to the old dredge. What a hidden gem. Place was being a hot weekend. Will need to come back and explore this area more.TFTC! FP awarded.

What a magnificent spot to swim, fish & paddle on Australia Day with great mates TheClazzas & Cristabel. We had a ball grabbing the nearby virtual. Our teens towed us on the floating pontoon out to the middle using their SUPs! After BBQ lunch, we headed off on the walk to find this one. Quick find after hurdling the blackberries creeping in. Moisture on the outside of the container, contents inside dry. We loved the location and the view!! Thanks for highlighting this gem Ben. Fav for sure!

Today I teamed up with SnipsnCo, Tiz13 and CracknLeeLee, otherwise known as Fish Attack 4.After paddling to the middle of the gorgeous emerald green lake for our virtual selfie, we walked around. This cache was quickly located and we cheered the kids on to be brave enough and rope swing into the water below.thanks!

05-Nov-23
So much fun at Ducks Ahoy, now time for a loop of the hole. Such a pretty spot, Tiz was the first to arrive at GZ and quickly had the cache in hand. (Signed Fish Attack 3). Why walk back when we can continue on this fine track we thought, and on we went. We came across the brave(?) rope jumpers we had admired from the other side, the exhilaration they displayed was catchy; it looked like so much fun. No bathers on us - we can leave it for another day. Further around we came upon Cybergran V completing Ducks Ahoy, how ingenious! She's a clever one. Thanks Jamin Appleford for the walk, the cache, the fun.

05-Nov-23
Fish Attack 15 became Fish Attack 4 became Fish Attack 3 as Snips and Co, Kristysadventures, muggle Kate (who we are trying to convert) and l continued on enjoying the walk to this cache so much that we decided to circumnavigated the lake to enjoy it even more.

Came unexpectedly to the hole after a bike ride to Harrietville. Had a nice walk around the lake. Contemplated doing a swim for the virtual, but with the water temperature approx 3 degrees, and no spare clothes or towel, I wussed out Smile

25-Sep-23
On holiday with friends and staying nearby, so while they were painting at the picnic tables. I went for a casual walk around the dredge hole, taking photos, and popped off track to grab this cache. Harrietville is a lovely area to explore with lots of walking tracks about. Even saw some cute blue irredecent beetles.Nice easy find, container clicks nice and tight. Log signed and cache hidden back in place.

The OSHFAM clan including geo dog Roxy came up to Punkah for a few days to spend time in our shack before school starts next week. On Saturday lunchtime, I sent the family home and Roxy and I stayed on for an extra night on our own enjoying caching adventures in Harrietville together. We arrived around 2pm and didn't get back to the shack til 9.40pm exhausted. We had the best day.

After swimming out to complete Ronice's Virtual in the middle of the hole, Roxy and I went for a wander around to grab this one. I had to grab a big stick to swish away the cobwebs. I had to find my courage to wander into the bushy setting here. The prickles and thorns had attached themselves to my pants and onto poor Roxy and all over her lead. The huge flies were a big menace too. I spent far too long looking in all the wrong spots. Must have checked the spoiler photo at least 10 times before expanding my search area and finally finding the cache safely tucked away.

Cache and log in good condition.

Roxy was very pleased we were now leaving this spot and back onto the walking track.

Thank you for the cache here Jamin Appleford

After a brief dip for the virtual we dried off with a walk around to this traditional. The approach was everything and fortunately we continued along the path until we found something that would lead us straight there without any undue bush bashing. Dried of the container as it was a little wet inside. TFTC

I can’t make the Mega next weekend so I decided that the offer of two event types in Harrietville on the one day to have a crack at improving my number of cache types in a day. I even convinced the kids to come (the geohound was happy to have a day out). A bit of planning meant that success was achieved - 10 cache types (+ AdLabs) signed for the day (despite only signing 15 caches and 12 AdLab points). Very happy with that.

Didn’t need to find this one but given second visit and it was there I thought why not. While I was hunting sacada turned up and we hunted together. Seemed I came off the tack too early and the hunt was made a lot more difficult than it should have. Sacada eventually made the find and I barrelled down the hill to sign the log. A typical Jamin T3.

### **OWNER MAINTENANCE REQUIRED PLEASE** ###

----------

Hi there Jamin Appleford,

It looks like this cache might need some attention, as one or more seekers have indicated there is an issue. The cache has been temporarily disabled, so as to remove it from search listings and discourage people from visiting this location until the issues/s with this cache can be addressed.

**You do need to respond in some way within 14 days, so others know you are on top of it, as well as indicating exactly what is happening with this placement - please don't let a lack of communication scuttle this listing.**

#What should you do now:-#
You have a number of choices so pick the one that applies from this handy list:-

- **Check On The Cache:-** Visit the cache and repair and/or replace or do whatever else is needed, post an [**Owner Maintenance log**](http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=404) indicating the cache has been checked and [**ENABLE your cache**](https://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=235 ). Then sit back and wait for the logs of praise to roll in.

- **Place A Write Note Log::-** Reviewers are not mind readers (unfortunately), so without your note on the cache page explaining that the site works are on-going, you have been in hospital, the area is in flood, or some other reason that has prevented attending to the cache, they can't tell what is going on.
So please just post a note to the page (within 14 days) and when a Reviewer next looks at the listing, all will be fine for a little bit longer.
**Be sure to indicate the actual date that you expect to have it fixed so that everyone knows you are on top of it. If you have a long term unavailable cache (where you don't have an actual date) please ensure you visit the page and post a note every 4 to 6 weeks, so as to keep everyone up to speed.**

- **Adopt/Archive:-** If you don't plan on fixing it then you could consider passing it on to another geocacher by asking them to [**Adopt it**](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=54) or alternatively, you need to [**Archive it**](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=56), so it is removed from searches and someone else can have the spot. Don't forget to remove any remnants of your previously enjoyed cache too.

You might wonder what happens if you don't pick one of those. Well, if nothing happens, then a few weeks from today, when a Reviewer next looks at the cache page, it is likely that they will, unfortunately, have to de-list (Archive) on the basis that it has been abandoned.

Honestly, I'd rather you decide so please do something before then. Please don't send me an email but instead follow the information/advice posted above.

**JUST A TIP:-** Have you checked out the new Geocaching Dash Board designed to assist a Cache Owner in managing the caches they own? Have a read about it [**HERE.**](https://www.geocaching.com/blog/2020/07/welcome-to-the-cache-owner-dashboard/?newsletter=PM) You will find your very own dash board [**HERE**](https://www.geocaching.com/play/owner?utm_source=geocaching&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=COD).

Thanks for your cooperation,

Bunjil

A day trip to Harrietville with this location the only definite on our schedule. Have heard a lot about the Tronoh Dredge and we wanted to see some of the remaining history. No swimming here at the moment as the BG alge is still rampant.

Coordinates were bouncing around as can be expected in the bush but the cache was hidden in a logical location so was a short hunt.

TNLN - Container and log in good condition.

Thanks Ben for the historical information.

Found. After attending a CITO with a group of others, weirdobiker, Sherpani8000 and I went for a walk and found some caches in the area. We did a wide circle of the Dredge hole in our walk and even had a little chat to some locals who were jumping off the bank into the swimming hole. Then we continued on and found this cache. TFTC

Good that there was a pic to help as it would be a shame to rummage through the foliage here searching for the cache. It is a beautiful spot. Love caching in Harrietville.

BettyBoo3747 and I loaded up the deadly treadlies and set off for Harrietville.
We started with the H2B series and then the AdLab, and a few others around town.

We were thinking that Harrietville seemed very quiet for school holidays, little did we know we were to find the whole population on small inflatable floaty things on the lake here.
We set off on the path not expecting to locate this cache due to muggles, but the location was good.
Spent a bit of time at the higher altitude first, then took another track.
Thanks, Robmc.

#17753. The coolest day of several hot days coming up so Robmc and I took the bicycles to Harrietville for some riding and cache collecting. An absolutely fantastic day collecting 16 caches plus the new Adventure Lab and riding 30km around town. Most enjoyable and it was nice to be back in a little village I first visited many moons ago and that I like a lot.

This is such a beautiful place and I remember coming here when Harrietville was just a pup - or maybe that was me. The water looked so blue and inviting on this hot day and this is when we discovered where the entire population of town was hanging out. Right here by the hundreds it seemed. We wheeled over the little bridge and rode as far as we could before leaving the bikes and finally making our way to the correct level. Then we made the find quickly. Unfortunately, we didn't find the spoiler shot helpful but the terrain rating helped us decide where we should be.

Thanks Jamin Appleford

Amazing spot, perfect break after coming down the steep Hotham road.

15-Mar-20
A family weekend in Bright and my uncle wanted to show me this spot. We all headed out after a beautiful lunch nearby at the pub. It was still here, no panic or anything as such. Just calm.

I was given something in the terms of minutes to bolt out here for the cache, which initially was almost a DNF after leaving the path too early!

A great spot here for a cache. Thanks for highlighting it.

08-Mar-20
The plan for this morning was to head up to Hotham, but as the road was closed for an event we decided to come here. We have been here before for a swim and the water is just as cold here as it is at the Lady's Baths. Really glad we had the time to walk around the hole as it is really beautiful from the other side. TFTC and a fav from us.

#3815 Enjoying a drive with the geohounds today and collecting the odd cache. Being a cool final day of Spring the swimming hole was deserted on arrival. Of course our initial approach to this cache was from the wrong angle. Retreated back to the trail and found a far more friendly approach and the exposed cache was discovered. After SL hid a lot better, TFTC JA nice cache write up. Have been here a few times over the years and it is still as spectacular as ever!

03-Oct-19
An enjoyable walk around the dredge and the nearby diggings and levee. Fortunately all quiet near the cache so a quick find was made - thanks.

27-Sep-19
I love that caching takes me to places like this. It was fascinating to read about the history of the area, and the sheer size of the dredge would have been a sight to see. We had a wander around before I ducked off to look for this cache. Once the GPS settled down it was a fairly straightforward find. TFTC

Close to home! A lot of the reveg work was done by Bright P-12 College students 20+ years ago as part of community service for Duke of Ed and the VYDP program. Locals enthusiastically then took on this dredge reserve and the Hit and Miss Creek dredge hole reserve and we saw a walking track, the pontoon and bridge go in. The pines amazingly are seen as part of the ‘mining heritage’ The locals once upon a time preferred the dredge hole further north near the tree farm but now this has friendly easy access. Kids love the rope swings and of course drone photographers too. TFTC

I have all these good intentions of writing a good log that says far more than TFTC but life just keeps getting in the way! Damn it! So I'm going back through and finding all those that I wrote TFTC or FLTF on and at least editing and noting that I had good intentions but apologising I didn't follow through and instead you get this copy and paste log!

Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache for one reason or another ( date, size, location, convenience, challenge or what not) I have selected it to find and I appreciate that it was here!

TFTC and I promise the next log you get from me I'll write something much better! Cheers TT

That must have been some dredge! I thought the one back at Eldorado was huge but this one was almost three times the size of that one. Well at least you can still see the one at Eldorado!
After reading the information board I note with wry amusement how some things never change - like the mining operation was suppose to reinstate the land but never did! Where have I heard that before?
