Apologies for the generic logs, but individuals would be unmanageable!Today was set aside to make a start on the Dog's Head Loop. The puzzles had been solved quite some time ago so we were looking forward to turning them and the other caches into smilies. It was a great day for caching, clear skies, temperatures in the high teens and little or no wind. We didn't take the COs advice and work in a clockwise direction, but that was because we were starting out from Branxton and will be moving on to Maitland later. It is a fabulously organized series to date. Reasonable places to pull over in most instances, great sized caches with excellent hints and obvious regular maintenance. Congratulations and well done!We had a couple of DNFs and an enjoyable if busy day. More to come!Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache kingfisher_au.**SKI Pair****

I found a few "unloved" caches on this trail when I was here, a bit further north, a couple of weeks ago, and noted then that there was a few more caches further along the trail that hadn't been found for over 6 months. I therefore came back today expressly to give some love to those caches, most of which lay south of Gresford Rd on Elderslie Road ... so that's where I focused my efforts today. As it turned out, I was able to find all 21 caches hidden along this stretch, picking up "unlove" on 19 of them. Most were straightforward finds, though some took a bit longer to find than I'd hoped, and were in pretty good condition. Thanks for placing this cache and series kingfisher_au and for helping me to qualify for the *Fifty Forgotten Years Challenge*, the log book for which I'd signed when I was in the Southern Highlands a few months ago.

Attempting to complete this awesome trail over a few days for my 60th Birthday Week. Today I had the help of my geodaughter, we successfully completed the task. Such an awesome trail, can’t believe how much work has been put into having this available for us to do! I feel bad placing a cut and paste log, but after a fullish day of birthday caching, I can’t see me logging all of them in one night! Thanks Kingfisher!

Well 2020 has been a relatively slow year on the caching front due to COVID-19. If it wasn't for that it would have been a trip to the USA and Geocaching's 20th year celebrations.

However the crew got back together and The Rats, Hoojar and I teamed up for a few days caching up around the Hunter area. First it was to finish off some of the older OZGM series caches then up into the Watagans for more. Most of Saturday was spent tackling the great Dogs Head Trail then on Sunday it was down into Newcastle city for some great caches.

This was another find on our trip.

TFTC!

COVID has really put a dampener on this year’s caching ability, but it hasn't stopped my enthusiasm to get out and find a cache whenever possible. So, it was with excitement that I was keen to catch up with Steeba and Hoojar for our first caching weekend of the year. Big Grin

We targeted a number of powertrails in the Central Coast and Hunter region over our 3-day caching frenzy. The weekend threw up a bit of everything, including a plethora of finds, mountain bush bashing, coastal caching, weather that varied from beautiful to bizarre, sleeping under the stars, some close calls with the flora and fauna, lovely local hospitality and most of all, a great time away with my mates”.

Thanks to all the C.O’s for placing and maintaining their caches for us to find. Apologises for the generic log but with so many finds I couldn’t personalise every one of them. Wink

After a chilly night and another early start we tackled our biggest day, the “Dog’s Head” trail north of Maitland saw us meandering through the picturesque countryside. It was here we found some cleverly crafted containers which added to a great day. By time nightfall we’d met up with Big Matt & MV for a lovely meal at the Paterson Hotel.
Thanks Smile

With restrictions starting to ease in our Covid World, it was decided that 2020 caching really need to kick up a gear, and so a plan was set in motion for The Rats, Steeba and myself to head to the Newcastle and Hunter region. There were a few trails, power trails, and Lab Caches that would be hitting our radars, along with a milestone for The Rats. We headed off on Thursday evening and turned for jome on Sunday afternoon. A wonderful long weekend was had, and our cache finds topped 450 for the trip. All in all it was a great success.

The caches were excellent. Some indeed were amazing, and favourite points have been awarded. The company, as always, was faultless. The weather was varied. We had sun, rain, wind, colder, warm, more wind... A bit of everything! We managed to find a few nice spots to camp, and enjoyed the company of Big Matt and Marcus Vitruvius for dinner at a local establishment on Saturday evening.

Please forgive the boiler-plate log, I assure you it is no reflection on the caching experience of our few days away. Thank you to all cache owners for their hides.

Cheers

Generic log time... Came down from Port Macquarie this morning to attempt to complete the dog's head trail. Beautiful weather for a drive around the countryside, although some areas were a little soggy from recent rain. Spring has definitely sprung with lots of flowers and baby animals in the paddocks. You've made a great trail Kingfisher, with a good variety of cache containers and placement. Thanks Smile

I joined a trip to Maitland with Aquilus1, dty73, Tankengine, Barb2e, Kitty Katch & Joolay. The weekends main game was to do the dogs head series, but along the way we did some old caches around Sydney and did as many Maitland caches as time allowed. The return journey was via some old caches and some challenges that may or may not be met one day.

Day 2 was the dogs head series and three other series around Kurri Kurri. The R&D caches and many other Maitland caches are absolutely fantastic containers showing great creativity with new tools.

Thanks for the cache kingfisher_au

Found with and signed the Capital Crunchers who are: dty73, Tankengine, Joolay, kittycatch, Albida33, Barb2e.

A four day caching trip up around Maitland collecting a number of caches of interest to suit everyone along for the fun. A lovely area, very scenic, green and lots of historic locations. Also some great caching to be done while in the area as well as on our way there and home.

The 'Dogs head' was a main focus of the trip, and took us the the best part of the day along with a few smaller trails and a few as we passed but a lovely scenic area to spend the day in. Most caches were straight forward finds, a few took a little search and others are great 3D printed designs or LARGE! Great trail through a great area, thanks for the cache kingfisher_au.

TFTC,
Day 2 caching around the area with Liz and Bruce & Nana nel.
It must have rained all night and after a good nights sleep we are out to finish the Dogs Head Trail today together with plenty of other caches along the way across several towns.
Great to have such a variety of caches.
It's raining lightly and we are getting wet but we are still having fun and barking our way to the end by lunch.
Thanks to Kingfisher_au for providing a trail where we could work together with other cachers and enjoy each others company while building numbers and learning about so many different breeds.

We learnt about the 'Dogs Head Trail' as one of our TB's was placed into a cache on the trail. After seeing it we just had to come and do it. Who knew that there is so many types of dog. The senery in the area is fabulous, we saw loads of cows and horses but not much else in the way of animal life. Now for the caches
Roads - Very busy
Farmers - friendly and interested
Co-ordinates - Really great
Hints - we used these and had a laugh at the humour that was used, it certainly kept you interested
Hides - Easy - loved the camo tape it really helps the cache containers to blend in and if the CO had wanted to these could have been hidden a lot harder
Parking - Great, OK, not so great and down right horrible. In saying this the cache owner does tell you when you need to be aware in the hints. It just means that you will get a little more exercise walking to the cache from a safe parking spot. The CO is looking after you and making certain you get your exercise. You may need to climb, either up or down, to reach the cache. You may choose to climb down when you do not need to this is, it is all up to the indiviual.
A huge thanks to the CO, what a massive job this would have been to find the places to hide the caches, sort co-ords, write the cache discriptions and now to maintain them. You asked us to leave a favorite for the dog that we feel is our most liked type of dog, for me it is the german shepherd and for hubby it is the bull mastiff.

Got up early to do this series today. Needed to eventually download for offline use which is why we have now done these bulk logs. We ran out of reception pretty quick and hadn't thought of it. Aaaagh!! We had planned a very long list of caches to find today with ilook4geo, but for about two hours after we started the run, the GPS would simply not play nicely with the satellites. It was very frustrating and we had to get there using other methods.
Eventually it came good and performed properly and the caching started in earnest. Each cache had its log signed with initials GP2 and ilg and all was put back into place. Thanks go to kingfisher_au for creating this series of caches and the fun puzzles included.

Dog’s Head has now become one of my new favourite trails!! So much creativity and diversity throughout. Thank you so much kingfisher_au for your time, energy and resources.

Tackled the trail (and some smaller surrounding ones) as part team Capital Crunchers (fitzy_1965, minniek, specimenX, Nibletricecakes, Joolay and Roostaman) on our Maitland long weekend adventure. So glad we made the trek it has been truly delightful! As an added bonus we all hit a milestone (mine being 3000) AND racked up the most number of finds we have ever found in a day!! 310! An all round epic adventure. Thanks so much everyone.

All caches where found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned. Logs were either signed or stamped as Capital Crunchers, CC, Kapital Krunchers or KK.

18,956. Found as part of the Capital Crunchers Team (fitzy_1965, minniek, specimenX, nibletricecakes, Joolay and Roostaman) during the Canberra Invasion of Maitland region over the long weekend.

This was the main event. We were really looking forward to doing the Dog's Head Trail as well as the smaller trails in the region. We had an absolutely epic day of caching, with all of us setting milestone and achieving a new finds in a day record (310). All of the caches were found in good condition, signed and returned into its hidey hole. The 3D printed containers were a real highlight as well - fantastic effort by the CO.

G'Day My Fellow Geocacher,

How are you my fellow Geocacher? I’m DARKSIDEDAN aka Daniel from Canberra, Australia and I have had the pleasure of finding your Geocache during my travels as a Geocacher. I signed the logbook in your cache either Darksidedan or Darkside or DSD. This was one epic series and I thank you for placing as well as maintaining this epic trail. I have added your cache to my growing list of “Found It” logs. Please forgive the Generic Logs for this Series.

I HAVE GIVEN TWO FAV POINTS FOR THIS SERIES ONE FOR THE FIRST AND ONE FOR THE LAST CACHE. WHAT AN EPIC SERIES. The Dogs Head Trail by kingfisher_au is so good you would be crazy not to do it, love it and to give it a fav point.

I love discovering Geocaches, Trackable items and collecting Pathtags. I hope that you enjoy Geocaching as much as I do. For me geocaching is a way of life and when I am not Geocaching, I am thinking of Geocaching.

Here is a little information about me. I have been geocaching since 2015. At the time of finding this cache I have over 6000 finds plus 350 hides. I am the creator of the “Duck Dip” Lab Cache that won 2nd Place for the Australian Capital Territory in the State Vs State - Battle of the Lab Caches at the OzGeoMuster - The Gong Mega 2019 in Wollongong, Australia. In 2019, I won the right to place a Virtual 2.0 Cache from Geocaching.com, but I have not placed it yet. I am just trying to find somewhere that is worthy of a Virtual Cache.

Now let’s talk Pathtags. Currently I have over 4600 Pathtags in my collection plus about 500 Etagz. I currently have two of my own Pathtags (45762 & 46950) with another one in the works.

I have included with my Found It log an Original and One of a Kind, Geocaching poem that I have written. I hope that everyone who reads it gets some enjoyment out of it.

Geocache Poem by DARKSIDEDAN

My endless search goes on and on
Looking for treasures of every kind
Always chasing just one more find
Putting past DNF’s out of my mind
I step out into the world outside,
Seeking what is hidden from me
What size, shape or form will it be?
Only time will tell, I can’t wait to see
Will I find my prize at the end?
I will search in the failing light and cold
Filling with despair having looked everywhere
Where is this thing that gives my life pleasure?
Looking all around from every angle
I read the logs and check the hint
I curse out loud as I walk in circles
Screaming the bloody thing it not there
As time flies by and I fail to see,
Never once stopping to realize
It always been there before my eyes
No need for sorrow, there’s the Geocache.

I am currently writing very detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC called "The Author". This Badge challenges geocaches to write logs with an average length of more than one hundred words per log. As of the 25th September 2019 my average Found It log is 165 words per log. I would like to get all my logs up to more than 200 words per log but I will have to wait and see how I go. Currently I am just trying to get my average up by finding and logging as many geocaches as I can. My apologies to anyone who finds my lengthy logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain the highest level with this challenge. After more than 6,000 geocaches (which includes all cache finds up and including this cache, I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my task very soon. Progress has been better than anticipated.

Caches found in excellent shape - only issues in this area were: #35 Gone with road works. #83 Container damaged.
I had only solved some of the puzzles so most of them were not able to be found by us.

While up in NSW on holidays enjoying a fun Lighthouse Mega, we headed further North to catch up with family and try our luck with the Dog Series, one that we have had our eye on since publication.
The puzzles were solved without much fuss except for one and boy did that do our head in....lucky for the kind CO who put us out of our misery allowing for a 100% success rate today as we tackled them head on in the company of Tack123.
Thanks kingfisher_au for the awesome effort in putting this series together, we had a blast today/tonight.

The dog trail was achieved today with The_Tritonz working as a team we knocked over the entire series having a blast the whole way around. Lunching at Gresford, we refueled our bodies and continued on our way. We even done mini CITO’s near the caches as we signed the logs.
Thanks kingfisher_au for the Dog Head Series.

Singleton staying at the Showgrounds
Today we have teamed up with Grub Fred & Shaneo58 we have signed the log as DIGS as a combination of our names & obviously it's what dogs like to do.
We did a small number in the afternoon leaving to do 100 the next day.
We enjoyed our drive around the farming land, surprised at how busy the country roads were.
The effort to place this trail & to provide information on so many different species of dogs is an enormance project. Some nice fantastic plastic containers noticed as well.
Thankyou for placing this cache kingfisher_au

With a long weekend in Canberra, FurfacesLL #1 and myself decided it was time to get away and find a bit of warmth as the cold makes its way into Canberra. We decided to head up to Maitland as neither of us had been there before for Geocaching. We had our primary target set to complete the new Dog geo-art series, and we managed to do that within a single day, so we had plenty of time up our sleeves for other things. We enjoyed the series with the different containers and hide styles along the way. We decided to add a drive upto collect Frying Pan and also included another older cache on Mount Sugarloaf for the journey home.

Apologies for the generic logs Smile

Thanks for the cache hide kingfisher_au Big Grin and thanks FFLL#1 for another trip out and about for some quantity AND quality caching Big Grin

After meeting the CO at a pre Mega event in Canberra at the Lakes in Gungahlin we decided to have a look at the dog trail that he talked about. So we set to work to solve all the puzzles in hopes of taking a trip to complete this series in the near future.
That day arrived a plan was hatched to spend a long weekend for Canberra up in Maitland collecting the dog trail and others around the area with Rapidlywild.

We headed out early (well early for us) and completed the trail in a day with no DNF's which was nice. Lovely country side to look at in this area and lots of various hides and sizes of caches.

Thanks for a great trail kingfisher_au you sure have spent a few hours putting this one together and thanks for the great weekend away and laughs Rapidlywild.

Sorry for the generic logs.
