Heading from Colac to Newstead, we passed through Cressy. I thought Cressy was a bigger town, and requested a stop there. Fortunately there were a few caches to find. I did not think I would be able to get this cache as Muggle Husband seemed to have reached his limit. I was delighted when we pulled in to the old station location. The cache was found while he read the information board. Awesome.
Marshalls Geelong found this cache today,Quick easy find on a quiet day. Its always sad when railway stations close! TFTC
At last, a clear day we can get out into the field and do some caching. North and west of our personal GZ today. It's amazing just how much rail has been allowed to decay. The photo and story on the board was so amazing. Many thanks to the CO for this cache.
Love trains so a nice cache to learn some history. Made an immediate find! TFTC!!
Another fun cache from the mclookers!! Interesting to come to this spot and see where the train station would have been. Was hoping for a nice rail walk here too! Thanks for my last cache of the day. Find 83 for me.
Leaving Ballarat today and heading to Colac area for a few nights before heading to Geelong for the end of my trip
Date: February 17, 2024 Time: 12:28 PMFind #14381Today was a big day, a 5:40am wakeup and out the door by 6am headed for a parkrun at Bannockburn Bush first up at 8, followed by a few local caches. I then came up with the crazy idea to attempt to get my Colac Otway LGA cache count to 20. It started at just 1!Not feeling like doing my intended hike this morning, I headed to Cressy and a nice tour of the town. Massive thanks go to McLookers for placing this one.
Stopped to look at the water tower art being painted! It's looking amazing! Quick find. Thanks
Found this one within a few seconds when on a family trip for Christmas to Nelson. A nice rest stop was definitely needed after being cramped into a full, hot car. Tftc
Very easy to find, a little disappointed that there's no platform or building left
6/12 find today. Was very windy and cold, with a bit of rain today, but im glad I went on an adventure with SharpHarp today. We found 12 caches over the dayPulled over here and was the same as a couple of other caches in town, we grabbed the cache and signed it in the car since it was so windy and coldpika 14/10/23
On my last 3 weeks of my visit from the US to see family (halfmugglemum). Getting some geocaches done while I can.Cute little cache.
A Sunday morning road trip to Cressy for a few caches, on what was a great day to be outdoors.Last one in town before heading home. Good quick find, but the highlight was reading about how the area was rather busy back in the day. Who'd a thought...Thanks again McLookers...an interesting tour around the whole area....
This trip we were able to change our sad face to a
Thank you Mclookers for replacing it.

On our way to Colac for a day out. Thought we'd grab this on the way through.

On our way home from visiting Mount Gambier for the weekend collecting a few caches along the way. With the cache in hand we signed the log before replacing as found. Thanks for the cache Mclookers.

While travelling we stopped here and found your cache this morning. It does blend in well. All good.
Thank you.
Thank you.
A very quick and easy find.
We had to log a DNF last visit here as the information we required was AWOL!
After finding this cache we saw 2 freight trains… we were both stunned as we didn’t realize that trains were still running through here!
Had a good view of one of the trains while hanging underneath Cressy Bridge! ( yes, we got that one too).
TFTC and this concludes our geocaching history tour of Cressy.

Mrs JTreeTrack2 and I came back for a second look at the area and some caching was required.
Fascinating part of the towns history, driven by many times without a clue of what was gone. Thanks for the education

This town must have been very active with a lot of employment opportunities 110 years ago. Today it seems that the only work available is council road/garden work - however we noted a couple of new houses near the water tower, so maybe more people will be taking up the quite life out here.
Thanks McLookers.

Heading towards Geelong we have found a few more in the area and this was one of them.
Cache and contents were in good condition.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

I've driven past alot but never noticed this site before. Thanks for bringing us here.
Nice easy find on our way home from a long wet and windy weekend exploring the Warnambool area on Melbourne Cup weekend 22 while most of the state was Flooding. Tftc
After a couple of puzzles, miss10 saw this as we approached and said she knows where it would be. Exactly right, grabbed and signed in the time taken to turn the car around.
Adelaide to Hobart Road Trip
Day Two: Casterton to the ferry.
Weather: warming up!
One of four McLookers Cressy caches. I was expecting a bigger town from the number of caches on offer!
First cab off the rank. A quick find, with not a lot of possibilities that I could see.
Thanks for all these caches McLookers.

Signs have been restored and caches are now ready to be found again. Happy caching!
Isn’t it amazing that places can just disappear without a trace? Without history to tell us that there was a station here at one point, and a geocache of course, you would never even guess that it was here at all. If I close my eyes I can imagine what it would have been like, that is of course until all the traffic goes by! TFTC
What a shame the information signs are in such a state of disrepair. We have enjoyed the geocaching history trail of Cressy. TFTC
Please note, I have moved the cache as the magnets have rusted and fallen off.
I can not put the log back in the correct place. I have hidden it close by and will now contact the owner.
Thanks

This cache will be attended to within he next week. In the meantime, widen your search a little to find the cache at the base of a stump.
Vinz is out doing stuff in the South Western district for few days.
With a couple of lazy hours up his sleeve, why not go in search of a few hidden artifacts in which to make his mark.
Although this was an easy find, after leaving his mark, Vinz found that the iron attractors that normally keep this artifact hidden had fallen off and as a result replacing the artifact in it original location was impossible.
Finally after a scrounge about, one of the magnets was found so the artifact could be carefully replaced.
He will leave a note for the owner to replace the atractors and thus keep this one safe.

The South West Tour. We had planned a longer stay but a few things got in the way so it’s Saturday to Monday. The caching aim was to get some higher D/T ratings and get our average for both above 1.75. Cressy Railway Station was the first, just because it looked a good starting point. The cache is in much better condition than the information board.

My 1st chance to get out of the City and I took some leave. It was also my birthday on the Friday.
We had initially planned to go camping but the weather wasn't so hot so day trips it is! And actually this was a great day trip. I love the countryside and the open road.
This weekend felt "normal" again after so long apart and in various lockdowns.
Today we drove and drove and drove. And I was a passenger so could enjoy it more.

Off for a long day, (550+ km drive) to cache around Beeac, Cressy and Rokewood and grab the odd ones out n about.
We left at around 8am and got back home just after 11pm.
Quite the variety of caches found. And in some cool locations too, from lookouts, lakes, salt flats to a plethora of surrounding paddocks, the odd tree climb and a short stroll down a dirt track, the day had it all.
Another quick grab in town.

Quick find passing through to Colac! Definitely need to explore this town one day! TFTC!
Not sure what’s happening with our phone service, maybe some towers have been effected by the storms, which is causing some very slow internet. Fortunately we were still able to navigate to gz. We retrieved the cache from the ground and replaced to its intended location. Thanks for another cache McLookers
Last one for the day out at Cressy. Quick find after reading the plaque. Log signed then back in the car before the next rain shower. TFTC
Found at 1413hrs. Cache was found sitting on the ground, dry and ok. Returned to hiding spot.

When your numbers don't add up and you end up at another cache. Quick stop to grab this. A rework of the figures and back to where we started to log the other cache.
Taking the long way to Ballarat - almost a ‘cooks tour’ of little country towns. TFTC and the info!
Found at 12:59 pm.
On a short 1.5 day road trip with Fleabag- to gather a few selected things but other random stuff as we came across it.
Sadly I couldn't quite reach this one from the car but it had stopped raining so I jumped out and made the nice quick find.
Thanks McLookers for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

Catching up with late logs.
Heading home from visiting dad in Portland we thought it was time to stop and grab a few caches that have popped up and some we have just passed as we were in a hurry.
More interesting history about Cressy. This must have been a thriving town during those days, far different to today. We could not see any sign of the station or trains but we did see some tracks were they had been.
The cache was a nice quick find and we happily added our name to the log.
Many thanks again McLookers for the hide and information.

No trains, no buildings, no platform, just a sign and a cache. The cache was the bonus and SL at 10.27am #7567 TFTC and the signed tour around Cressy McLookers - now on we go to an Adventure in Rokewood.
We used our imagination for the station and the comings and goings of the locals. Did not need to imagine the cache though, it was real.
This was the 31st cache of the day and my last. Again a nice hide at these familiar signs.
Thanks mclookers

Found by Mary and David at 16:20. A day of cache maintenance for us today. Stopped in Cressy for a rest break, so this cache was an added bonus for us to find. How appropriate that, as we were about to head off, a long freight train with three engines went by heading east We stopped on the way home to do the Bunjil Lookout lab, then were held up at our local level crossing by the very same train. Our thanks to McLookers.
Out in the country today and made a quick find here.

Disturbed a bug but I don't know if he was more surprised or I was.

Found this cache today in the pouring rain. Not much evidence of the old railway station left, such a shame as it appeared to be a grand old building. Thanks McLookers.
Haven't visited Cressy , maybe passed through but today I stopped several times.
Thanks for the interesting facts about the train line and station. Definitely very little signs of that lovely old station here today.
A clever hide that blended in well.

We did the adventure lab at Rokewood so thought to continue on - a lovely day for exploring! By all accounts, Cressy was quite a thriving community.
Thanks for the history lesson regarding the railway in this area. Enjoyed finding this cache.

Lots of memories flooding back as we explore my old stomping ground! Sad to see the old town falling apart. Was such a thriving little community when I grew up here all those years ago.
Wow - amazing history here.
Today I had a solo geo day which I haven’t done is a very long time. It was lovely to drive, listen to my audiobook, work on many multis and find some easy caches in some beautiful locations. All were found without too many issues. Many thanks for the cache.
