Any news?

Cache has been removed by some council landscaping works in the area. New cache will be placed at the weekend in the same area and a new hint to reflect new location.

Hi aros71

This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).

I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.

Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.

Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.

After the nearby CITO, six of us (three of whom had found the cache previously) tried to track down this elusive cache. To be fair, the earlier finders couldn't remember exactly where the cache had been hidden, but I reckon we checked everywhere possible within a reasonable radius. I think it is most likely missing.

I was hoping to finish this series today by finding this cache. I had a little more information than when I was last here but the result was the same. The blue frownie remains Sad.

06-Jun-20
Really disappointing we couldn't find this one. Searched everywhere and kids got bored and so we gave up after about 15 minutes and went to play in the new park nearby.

17-Jan-20
This one eluded me, I tried to interpret the hints in previous logs but still no luck.

Glad to get this one this time! A very sneaky hide. Tftc!

12-Nov-19
Found after looking around several other stumps to begin with. Tftc.

11-Nov-19
MightyMicra and I solved a few more puzzles over the wet weekend then I nipped out on Monday when the rain had stopped for a quick look . After 10 minutes with the GPS wandering around and me getting completely "stumped" I was about to give up for the day when suddenly the GPS pointed me a few metres away and there I saw something not quite right. Lo and behold there it was! Look at the other logs for a clue, don't despair, look for the bear! TFTC.

For once I had done some homework on this one and had writren all additional hints in logs down. Even with all that help it wasn't an instant find but I did get there - doubt I would have on my own. TFTC # 14,776

15-Oct-19
Now that was a search and a half. Needed to not look at the obvious and think a bit. Took longer than expected, 20 mins to come up trump's. The colours purple and white will give you a further hint. All good here. TFTC

This wasn't the quick find I expected (or wanted) as I tried to complete the Museum Mystery series. Now that I have read earlier logs, I have a much better idea as to what is required to track this cache down.

12-Jul-19
on out way home from wgtn and having found the detective in newlands we had to detour around here for this pre solved cache. I have re solved most of these replacement caches now !!
This very nearly had me stumped !! OK i read the logs it reports it is some what out from the co ords but i pieced together their logs and re serached again
MY hint would be " there is papa bear, muma bear - and baby bear who is going to get to the beach first it would seem! Baby bears holds the treasure! or is it the medicine! Papa bear just has the co ords! not the medicine.

02-Jul-19
Searched all of the hint objects I could find, and I could find a lot, but no sign of the cache. I also tried several days ago, so I'll have to attempt this again next time I'm in town.

Today is the 14th day of our journey to the south island. I had planned to complete the Kiwi Geotrail before we head to Wellington to take the ferry to the south island. Having arrived near the Lake yesterday I was able to pick up seven of the series on our way to the campsite after visiting Rivendell and eating dinner in the Upper Hut area. We spent the night at the edge of the lake and after eating breakfast I started to collect the Kiwi Caches at around 9:30am.
I mannaged to find 55 caches today, 54 of which to complete the Kiwi. It took me a total of 10 1/2 hours to complete the trail at 8:00pm in a rather slow pace.
This was # 36 of 55 caches today.
Another puzzle that took a bit longer to be solved. Once at GZ it was a rather quick find thanks to previous logs. Tftc.

Team GST (Gr33nslime, Stardust718, TwigNZ) got together again for another caching trip. This time with a focus on finding all the Porirua Kiwi GeoTrail. We had a lovely drive around the area over 8 hours in which I found 70 caches. The parking at times was quite tricky and crossing the busy road was even worse but we all ended the day mostly unharmed (except for a few scratches from gorse).

I started solving all the kiwi caches only 2 weeks before our trip. Fortunately most of them were quite straight forward and the information that was required was almost immediately obvious.

#50 of 70 today. This took a looong time to find. It's not at the most obvious hint object, or the next closest/biggest or even the next. We eventually found it some 10-15m away from where we started. We were stoked to find the final for a now archived puzzle cache though.

08-Jun-19
I was out and about today as part of Team GST (Gr33nslime, Stardust718, TwigNZ), working our way around the Pauatahanua Inlet finding all the Porirua Kiwi GeoTrail series of puzzle caches, plus a few selected others along the way.

In spite of the recent bad weather, we were lucky enough to have mainly sunshine today although the blowing southerly certainly left the air very fresh at times. I had already found a few of this series, as had Gr33nslime, but for the sake of ease whilst logging, all logs today were signed 'Team GST' regardless of whether we had found them before or not.

I had been reasonably impressed with the accuracy of the co-ordinates for all these caches, but this one was a little bit out. The solved co-ords took me right to a Hint object, but after an extensive search around a 10-15m radius Gr33nslime eventually spotted the cache tucked away in a far less impressive example a little way North from where the hunt had started.

The only real bonus to the extensive search was that I accidentally uncovered an Archived cache! So we enjoyed looking at that one before making the right find for this one, after which we were back on our way again.

Thanks for the Puzzle, and the cache. A great way to help me celebrate 2 years of caching.

# 1580 Team GST has assembled again (Gr33nslime, Stardust718, TwigNZ), for another caching mission. Mission for today w#as to finally finish the Porirua Kiwi, something I had solved about 5 years ago and have slowly worked towards finishing. Today would bring an end to that work. All up I found 28 caches today, and only 1 DNF, so unfortunately the kiwi is still unfinished but a sight closer than it was. We did the loop clockwise, and I feared for my life with some of the parking places and road crossings but all and all, it is well achievable to visit all 61 kiwis in the space of 7 or so hours. Thanks to the creators and maintainers of this series, it is a fantastic piece of geoart that still brings people to the region!

Of all the kiwi caches we found today (all 59/61) this one seriously took the longest amount of time to find. There has clearly been a bit of work around this area. So the hint item you are looking for is not the big one as you might think, its a smaller one, and its not really near it, its under a small branch off the side... use this knowledge to tailor your search and save time. As a bonus, we found the final to an archived puzzle cache.... yay..!

enjoyed the quick puzzle, but the cache took a seriously long time to locate! Searched a lot of hint objects, read back through previous logs for any clues, and eventually was relieved to spot it staring out at me after a long search, not in the obvious place, the dog wasn't barking too much today, TFTC

We were staying in Upper Hutt for the week over Easter break and hoped today was finally the day we finished off the Kiwi Geo Trail. Our first go was in Oct 2013 and we did roughly 1/3, we did some more in Oct 2016 and finally wanted to finish it today. Not the obvious hint option here so we read a couple of logs back and found out the coords are out abit which helped us refocus somewhere else. I think this was more of a lucky guess. Thanks to both the original owner and now the adoptive owner for the effort involved in placing and creating this series for all of us to enjoy. Smile

No dog barking but no cache found either.

After looking a few times previously and recording a DNF, I stopped off here again to have yet another go - can't leave the Kiwi with a gap in it.... Fortunately no dog but there was a child and a dad playing over in the playground. Re-searched the hint items focusing on what I considered the logical cache hides but yet again came up empty handed.
Pulled out the PAF card which provided a direction. Just as I had hung up, I spotted a glint - courtesy of the sun being in the right place, my placement, and looking at just the right time - which on closer inspection revealed the base of the cache container. I would have looked here at least three times before and not seen the container.
Like others before me the cache location is about 8-10m's N from where the GPS was pointing when I stood back and let it settle. Interesting hide. Many thanks for replacing the cache and redoing the puzzle. The Kiwi is complete again. Smile

Twenty minutes of barking dog persuaded me that enough was enough. Nothing located at a number of hint objects up to 15m from GZ. This kiwi repair will wait until another day.

After finding #32 and still having a few minutes left before having to pick Mrs S up I drove to the location of this one. GPS didn't have the data so I was on the phone. Reaching GZ I started to search the cache out but was having no luck. I had a read of the past logs and thought, humm. Checked watch, 2 more minutes then I have to leave. Like others have said, stood back and had a quick scan. Quickly checked a couple more places with out luck then my time ran out. I shell return - can't leave the kiwi with a sad face in it. Thanks for the hunt ... so far!

Second visit here, I came a few weeks ago and searched for about half an hour but missed the cache. My hand must have been within centimetres of it too but it just wasn’t my day. Today, armed with a bit more information I spotted it as soon as I approached. I was also helped a lot by somebody having placed some objects to conceal the cache which was a dead giveaway. As others have noted, the coordinates are 10 - 12 metres out. Signed log, thanks for the cache and it’s good to get this one cleared up.

#10,665. Enjoyed solving this puzzle that is based in the Porirua Harbour (Pauatahanui Arm) in Mana, Porirua. Final GZ was all quiet when we visited. Took quite a bit of searching. Widened the area back and forth, and eventually found it about 5 metres from where we started the search. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Thanks for the puzzle and placement, and for bringing us to this site, and …

Cache # 4,730 - As noted by many other finders, the puzzle was easy but the search took quite a while. And unfortunately for the three of us (Violet Butterfly, Astro Hunter and I), we picked the wettest part of today to go for the cache, so all ended up getting soaked. GPS bounced back and forth, and with the plethora of potential hiding spots we widened the search out 20 metres in all directions. Eventually took another's logged advice and stepped back. Which ones had we not searched thoroughly? Hmm, a couple there. And sure enough found the cache, and the GPS settled down to within the distance tolerances, so can't say coordinates are out at all. TNLNSL. Certainly one of the more difficult ones to find in the whole series! TFTC!

Did with The Wandering Dragons and Violet Butterfly. A wet affair that seemed to take forever, but we got there in the end. Thanks for the adventure!

Glub, glub, glub - fish today with the first heavy rains in quite a while. But TWD's streak carries on and they dragged us (me and Astro Hunter) with them to find this cache. A nice area, but nowhere near as quick a find as we had been promised. Fortunately home, and dry clothes, weren't too far away. Thank you!

Cache # 1,502

An easy solve of the puzzle, but a prolonged search to find it. If your doing the power trail this one could seriously dent your Finds / Hour ratio. And if you like dogs barking at you this is the cache for you. TFTC

#6571. I noticed the Porirua kiwi had some different colours back in it again. So decided it was time to turn it back into a yellow shape. Solved the three new puzzles. I could remember the method I used last time I did similar puzzles so didn't take too long to locate the right references and get some new numbers. All checked out OK. Then it was a case of driving to Porirua and picking them up. This one did take me quite a while to get my hands on the container. So many potential hiding spots and the one I checked as the second place, I missed the cache so had to endure a wider sweep and search of many more before coming back for a second look. This time I was more careful and spied the container. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks aros71 for the puzzle and the cache.

Found today while out with Fdaze. Had us "stumped" for a while till Fdaze spotted it in a most unlikely spot. TFTC

Out with Talla64 trying to turn some Kiwi GeoTrail puzzles back into smileys again. I remember this site from a previous challenging puzzle and came with rather more confidence that I should have. We searched for at least 15 minutes for this one, and in the end I resorted to reading past logs. As a result I did what the first finder did - stepped back and surveyed the scene. Ah - another hint object I'd not noticed before. And there is the little blighter! At first, I almost overlooked it, it is such a sneaky hide. Delighted to have found it, so my Kiwi is complete once more. Thanks for the cache.

The CO made a very generous offer to show me the errors of my ways this evening, so we met up to explore options.

How many hint items are lurking around here? That one, no. That one? Is that a hint item? Could be, but not that one either! What about that one and that one way up in the bushes? Also no. Which leaves.... That one. Where on earth? Very easy to overlook, and I nearly missed it this time around as well. This one is sneaky, but it is there. TFTC.

Looks like a lot of people have done a lot of searching... in my case in vain.

29-Jan-19
Calculated the location easy enough, and after waiting for a house to drive by finally made it to the GZ after midnight. Several hint objects to check, and many geotrails to follow, but got to the find eventually. All safe and dry, TFTC.

A quick run with Spider-bite to get the latest 2. Took a second look to find it. Thanks for the replacements

A surprisingly tricky little cache here. I came here earlier in the day and spent about 5 minutes looking without success. I figured I'd log the DNF if I don't find it before the day's out. So I came back in the afternoon for another go and noticed something I didn't see before by a hint object I actually checked the first time (though obviously not very thoroughly). So I found it within 10 seconds on my second visit - something that happens really often when I cache. It's like my brain needs time to background-process the scene from the first visit or something. Slightly surprised to be the 3rd signer here because on the other new cache, which I found on the day it was published, I was like #6 or something!

So now my kiwi is both complete and all yellow again. Thanks WhitbyTui for stepping up to repair the kiwi when the maintainer of the previous incarnations would not. I'm glad to see a kiwi cache here in a place that, IMO, is totally in the spirit of the original series and arguably better than most of them.

TFTC.

FTF@0951!

Whew! That took some doing!

The notification came through while I was picking up the FTF at the other Kiwi GeoTrail cache published today, so after that was sorted out I sat down to work on this one. This was a lot more straightforward to solve than other themed puzzles in the series, however I did come a bit unglued with the checksum as I was two out. Rechecked the numbers and found I was right - it turned out I inadvertently used the second digit of the checksum in my summing of the answers - d'oh!

Nevertheless, plugged the coordinates in and found another familiar location, which was to be my undoing. Headed on over with full optimism, parked at a spot I've parked on previous occasions and made my way over.

Started hunting around the largest hint object, which was the location of a previous cache before it turned into it's current state (and cause for it's archival). Couldn't find anything Sad. I looked at another hint object close by - still nothing. I found another large hint object and nothing there either. Oh dear. Is it possible that the CO may have published the cache without the container? I took a few steps back and composed myself. Hmm, the GPS was pointing towards the second hint object I had looked at. Nope, still nothing. It was then I spied yet another hint object. Took a look, and there it was! Phew! Yep, another pristine log, and possibly the hardest I've worked for a FTF (except maybe that T5 up in Eastborne Hills). All in all, quite an adventure - sometimes it's not the obvious one Smile. TFTC

I wasn't aware of the history of this spot, interesting, but more remembered by me as the site of a rather interesting and challenging cache in the past. Not the easiest of finds so I was pleased I persevered, and with the additional pleasant surprise of being the 2TF. And a fairly rare first day find {FDF} also, quite by accident really.

TFTC and keeping the series alive.
