While on this side of the continent visiting the friendly neighbourhood ogre, I was keen to collect up a few smiles, and the fine day today seemed like a great opportunity to do so. Many years ago, in a past life, I had reason for spending time in these parts on a couple of occasions... Most memorably as a ranger, once 'of age' and this place was a convenient resting place for less guide-like activities... Nevertheless, it never really occurred to me there was a guide hall right behind the campsite. Makes sense though. Enjoyed reminiscing about such things as I wandered down the track to GZ, where the hardest part about the cache was wrestling with the lantana that resisted my entry. Added a small toy I'd fished out of a previous ill-fitting hiding place. Thanks for the hide, and for jogging my memories from a bygone era (Mrs) Shifter Brains

Nice short walk, easy find with crazynumbat TFTC

21-Apr-23
I came to search for this one about a week ago, but once I parked it looked way too bushy to do with my 2yo, so I didn't attempt it. Came back alone today and found a nice clear path he could have walked down haha. Oh well.
I went the long way to GZ, found the cache, and took the shortcut back.
The cache is clean and dry and very well stocked!!
Thanks for maintaining your caches so well!

Dnf for this one could not find the tree I don’t think it’s here any more

16-Dec-21
DNF for this one, I looked at all the likely spots you would/could hide a cache around GZ, found a small fallen tree almost disintegrated. . Shifter Brains.
Attempted to find this at 1:47PM on this Thursday the 16th of December in the year 2021

Now that we are coming out of lockdown this cache is now available to find.
Thank you for your patience and to all of you who have been vaccinated.

12-Aug-21
To help stop the spread of COVID-19, the NSW Government has ordered everybody to STAY AT HOME unless you are: shopping for essentials, receiving medical care, exercising or travelling to work or education.
While some people would regard geocaching as a form of exercise, we feel that this activity is NON-ESSENTIAL, perhaps involving unnecessary travel and therefore should not be undertaken during this time of crisis.
Who knows how long this current lockdown will last! Right now, every one of us has an important part to play in helping to keep our families, friends and the wider community safe in the fight against the spread of COVID-19, by STAYING HOME. Unfortunately, the situation is not improving and there have been an increase in the number of finds on our caches.
As a result of the health authority’s directive, we have decided to disable this cache and respectfully request that you do not seek out and claim a find whilst this cache is disabled. If you do log a find it WILL be DELETED.
Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to bringing our caches back into play after the restrictions are lifter.
Regards
Shifter Brains

Cool thanks bro big a as forest

08-Aug-21
I kept this one on my watch list after a hard fought DNF in Feb. A helpful log recently reported that the area had been brush cut. On my visit I found the cache within 30 sec! Thanks for the heads up rainbowcaitlin2. Frown turned upside down. TFTC!

30-Jul-21
Usually am slow to find caches but this was one relatively straightforward, considering the comments in previous logs. The sides of the path have been brush cut and you don’t need to bush bash, very close to the path. Thank you!

22-Jul-21
Found straight away

20-May-21
DNF for this one, I looked at all the fallen logs and any other likely spots you would/could hide a cache around GZ, also looked at previous logs for any hints.. Shifter Brains.
Attempted to find this at 10:19:00 AM on 20May2021

11-May-21
I’m working in the area and I’m looking to grab some nearby caches.
I parked at the end of Florida Lane and made my way to the marked coordinates, which included a short Bush bash until I reached a clearing where I immediately stumbled onto what I thought was the correct hiding area for the cache. After searching it and many other locations I was coming up empty handed.
With all the tree coverage the gps signal was constantly jumping around. Then as I was ready to give up I stumbled onto it on my way out of the Bush, and also as mentioned in another post it is only a few metres off the main trail.
Very tricky and sneaky hiding spot.

TFTC ️

Find: 617
10th of 10 finds for today
2 DNFs for today
Cache condition: Good
Log book/sheet: Less than 50% full

I tried for an hour, came away disappointed and completely covered in scratches from lantana and other thorny vines. I found decomposing logs but no cache. At no stage did my phone or GPS say I was within 4m. 0m for me completely inaccessible without a flame thrower. I will watch and see if someone else makes the find in the future.

09-Dec-20
Wow! That took forever, I finally found it about 4m off the main track, that fallen tree is almost gone to the god of forest compost. Thanks.

Thanks for the cache

Today I was on the Central Coast to do some bird watching and bush walking. With a good run up very early this morning I had time to grab a cache before our meeting time and this was on the way with just a very short detour.

I found a track entry where the GPS pointed straight at the cache so walked down there. Well before finding the cache I felt like I'd already done half of today's walks as I went round and round and up and down the tracks checking things that the hint suggested. And there were lots of them!

Finally time to give up and head off to meet my friends so I bush bashed my way back towards the track, and off that's when I stumbled on the cache, close to the track too!

29-Sep-20
Found after a bit of bush bashing and there it was not far off the track. Log in good condition.

26-Aug-20
Who’d have thought there were quite so many features as mentioned in the hint. I think we saw all of them and then almost stumbled across the cache. TFTC

Night caching is hard... almost got lost! Found with another butt pirate

01-Jul-20
OCW oldmorty for the second week in a row. Today's direction is north to the lower central coast.
Finally found, we both gave up, then got a glimpse of it.
Thanks to all the cache owners
for maintaining the caches.

01-Jul-20
The recently formed firm of removalists, "marj01 + 1 and oldmorty", had their first job today, transporting baby equipment up to the Central Coast. Whilst up there we found time for a few caches. Thanks to all the cache owners who provided a diversion in the day. The coords seemed a little out. Cache found only 2 metres off the track going down. Cheers oldmorty.

17-May-20
I could not find it. Looked for about 30 mins. Possibly muggled or lost in rain and growth. Not work looking for.

10-Apr-20
Searched for ages unable to find Sad

Couldnt find it this time, probably stood right on top. I guess I'll just have to try again later

27-Dec-19
As some previous founders, I started on the wrong place, but soon realised that should have another path. Said that, cache was quickly found. Grabbed TB.
Thanks Shifter Brains Smile

#6748 (8 of 12 today)

Decided that today was the day for some numbers, and decided that since I was finishing the day at an event at Galson, I could snaffle some caches on the Central Coast, and head home via the event.

So targeted the caches around Terrigal. Started with a puzzle I worked out before I left home, and then started walking from The Skillion car park.

Discovered trackables in three of the caches today - haven't done that for a long time.
Only had one DNF, and got back to *The Hademobile* about the time the spotty rain started.
###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
Took a few minutes to work out how to access GZ.
But finally got there and it took a few minutes before the sneaky hide was uncovered.

Signed, replaced and discovered the trackable - leaving it for the next person. Then away to my next target.
Those raindrops just aren't stopping, though.

Nice hide, kept going round and round till i finally found it, dropped trackable

23-Jul-19
Following the 'clues' for this Mystery in the Mansion subgame thing. First encountered walls of lantana - a prime site for some land rejuvination! - but then found the much more sensible way in. Took me a while to find any sort of fallen tree, it looks like it's just vague remains. But once I did the cache was quickly found. Signed log and returned cache as found. No sign of Mrs Shifter roaming around or about to drop out of the trees Smile TFTC!

20-Jul-19
I think I found the fallen tree but alas no cache today. Searched for a good 10mins. I will be back.

17-Jul-19

17-May-19
I was clearing a few caches in the area and decided to stop for this one as well. I went the wrong way at first and then found the pleasant trail only for my gps to then lead me into the bush too far and the spikey vines, so I went back to the trail and started again and then found the cache with accurate co ords in a much nicer spot. Thanks for the cache Shifter Brains tnln replaced as found sl

16-Mar-19
In the area to man a table at a nearby conference and decided to grab this one on the way home. Coords were spot on. TNLN TFTC

17-Feb-19
We upset the Resident Dog on the way to this find.
The Fallen Tree has been Flattened by a Slasher and does NOT look like a tree any longer.
Look CLOSER than you would expect to grab this Cache.

We have set up camp Dunvan's caravanpark for a few days.
Our journey today is heading towards Gosford & then lunch at Erina before returning home. Picked up a TB here.
A variety of cache types & hides found.
Thanks for placing this cache Shifter Brains

07-Feb-19
Over in the area today and thought I'd have a go at this new cache. My GPSr wanted to lead me around in circles at GZ and at one point I was following a vestigial trail that got me tangled in some thorny vines, only to emerge somewhere much more straightforward. Oh the joys of geocaching. Anyway I got there in the end.

I took the Travel Bug Origins TB to move on. Many thanks for the hide.

01-Feb-19
It was starting to rain but not enough to stop me taking an easy trail to GZ, in fact quite a cachers' trail has already formed there. The good sized container was retrieved from its nice dry spot and 3 TBs were placed in it with the log, lately all the caches have been too tiny to leave travellers. Thanks Shifter Brains for a good cache in a nice piece of bush I have not visited before.

FTF @ 4.15pm ... more to come after I tend to my wounds.

30-Jan-19
I was about to take a break after finishing off one of the jobs on my to do list (well, actually, it's not my list, it's her list of things for me to do at home!) when I saw that a new cache had been published just 6 km from home. Since I haven't scored a FTF for a while and I was between jobs, I thought why not give it a go ... after all, it's not far away and it's only been 15 minutes since it came out ... who knows, I might have a chance.

After making my way to Terrigal more slowly than I would have liked (the 'after school' peak is back upon us), I parked outside the Guide hall and noted that there were no cars nearby ... a good sign. Over the road I went and into the Guide property, where I saw a "trail" heading more or less in the same way my GPS was pointing ... another good sign. But it turned out not to be a trail at all, and a bit of bush bashing was therefore required to reach GZ. My legs got a few scratches from the lantana and other nasties but hey, that's part of the game isn't it ... or a lesson to wear trousers when caching in the bush, not shorts and thongs.

Once at GZ, the cache was soon in my hot little hands, and and a smile came over my face when I saw that I had a virgin log sheet before me ... [FTF] ... yay!! Formalities done, it was then back to the car but via a much easier route ... I'll say no more than that! Big Grin

Thanks very much for placing this cache Shifter Brains.

So close to FTF. Oh well. Turns out I had my notification settings on wrong. Funnily enough I was just about to put on in this area which is how I discovered it. Guess I have to find a new spot Smile

TFTC.

I assume the log roller is for trade? I didn’t want to take it just in case but there’s no need for it there.
