A plan was hatched recently to hit the Naki area this long weekend. Nice to get away and grab a lot of our solved puzzles and ALs plus others along the way. Signed logs Team BoP to save room on log sheets.

I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

TeamBOP are together again for the long weekend. Philip.Perry, McJandals,NZFlossy and myself are heading to New Plymouth and surrounding areas caching.

On a weekend trip to Taranaki with some of Team BOP. Always lots of fun on these trips targeting cache trails, solved puzzles and high favourites. Thanks to all the cache owners TFTC. What a beautiful park

Team BOP is back on the road this time heading to Taranaki with our sights set on some Labs, some geo-art & everything else in between

Our current incarnation includes Davidson Clan, NZFlossy, McJandals and myself and we’ve signed the cache logs as ‘Team BOP’ to save time and log space. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the journey as most caches have been found quickly & without fuss thanks to accurate coords and a straight forward placements.

I appreciate there’s a stigma attached to cut’n’paste logs like these so I’ll try to provide cache specific notes retrospectively when I get home. We do genuinely respect the work put into these caches, particularly some of the puzzles, but with a numbers mission like this - the hides start to blur together unfortunately. So Cheers COs, TFTC and most importantly - thanks for bringing us here

#9607. The last day of my four day trip to Taranaki. Making my way back to Wellington today. After three fine days the weather changed overnight and now its raining, windy and rather chilly. I stopped by here on Friday morning and started to look for the cache. But an ambulance pulled up at a nearby building and a bunch of school girls stopped at the corner to check it out. They didn't seem in a rush to get to school. I was in a rush to find more caches so left. Stopped by here again today while going south. The rain was back and was sheeting down. So raced out for a quick grab of what I thought was the cache on Friday and it was. Yes. Signed the logsheet in the car and replaced the cache where found. Thanks Rick-a-mortis for hiding the cache here. Quite remarkable that a town the size of Hawera would produce two brave people who were awarded the Victoria Cross.

We are on our summer holiday, we usually take a few weeks and travel around the South Island, but this year we are heading around the North Island. Heading up the West coast and back down the East coast. Finding only a select few caches along the way, we are mostly targeting some challenges we have qualified for, some large size caches, some that fill gaps in our date placed grid, a few D/T combinations, some with lots of favourite points, letterboxes and anything else that grabs our fancy.

I had a fall earlier yesterday so I was now pretty much out of action with a very sore and swelling ankle so gk had to go to find most of the caches. We thought this would be an easy find lol, it wasn't. We walked around and around and checked what we thought was every likely spot and as I had given up and was returning to the campervan I had one last look and there is was, how did we miss that, it was so easy to see lol. I signed the log and returned it as I found it. This is the same as the last cache we found here because it was the same scenario - we thought it was time to park up for the night as these two caches took far too long for us to spot the obvious.

Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley.

A quick and easy find this time.

TFTC Rick-a-mortis!

Thanks Rick-a-mortis for putting out this cache for woolwood9 and I to find!

06-Nov-20
A brave cache.

06-Nov-20
Log bursting full.

05-Nov-20
We are on a ten day road trip to Taranaki, The Forgotten Highway, Taumaranui, Ohakune and back home to Palmy. Along the way will be sightseeing, short mountain walks, museum visits, a rail cart journey and, of course, geocaching. Day 1 brought us to Hawera.

After we had settled in to our Airbnb for the night we needed to go out to get dinner so, despite it raining steadily by now, we did a little caching as well. It took us a while here to get to the right site and then to spot the cache, so we got quite wet, but at least we had success in the end. TFTC

quick park and grab for this one before a walk in king edward park.

22-Sep-20
I visited the interesting location before crossing the road and easily finding the cache.
I'm very impressed that two VC recipients came from Hawera!

I was traveling today and knew I'd have a bit of time on the drive to grab a few caches. The main mission was Hawera's adventure lab cache and the caches near by but due to the path home I got a couple of caches on the backroads on the way. I ended up finding six of nine caches plus the adventure lab cache.

Teamed up with Cats&Dragons, for an overnight mission down the West Coast focusing in and around Hawera. It's been awhile since we've done a trip like this and it was great to be out finding caches again. We left Hamilton at 7pm Friday night and returned midnight Saturday, with only a few hours of sleep needed we managed 116 finds for the trip. A big thanks to all the cache owners for their placements.

Spotted this one as we approached, thanks for the hide.

04-Jul-20
Our 2nd one Thanks so much. We are loving this

27-Jun-20
I had no problem identifying the cache. Removing it to complete the paperwork and replacing it without being seen wasn't nearly so simple.

Spending the weekend relaxing in Hawera and giving my campervan a good charge on power, so I needed bread so I went for a walk to the dairy and low and behold, there is another cache in the gardens, had to wait until it was quiet before I could retrieve the cache, gets a fav point for me, tftc Rick-a-mortis

04-Mar-20
Despite the specific details in the hint, finding this cache took much longer than it should have as we concentrated on other nearby features. TFTC

easy find many thanks

17-Dec-19
A quick snag and tag at VC Hawera. Cheers.

Day 4- Tuesday 17 December. Hawera district today.
Running around the Hawera district today in Toby, while Zara rests up. Checked Manawapou viaduct and Nowells Lakes.

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

17-Dec-19
Nice park. Statue is not of King Edward, which is a little incongruous.

Day four of Taybeedragon's and my big 3 week circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki, starting from Palmerston North. Today is Hawera - it's going to be a slow trip!!
Highlights:
* 3 weeks, 536 caches
* Mt Taranaki had been removed for washing, which was a bit of a shame. Even after it had been returned we were only allowed to see it for it was less than half an hour a day.
* High percentage of caches with crappy coordinates Sad
* Amazing Pukekura Park
* AMAZING Pukekura Park light show!
* Pukeiti Gardens
* Lots of cache maintenance!

Find number 6440. After dropping off a German friend in Wanganui yesterday it was time to start to head towards home to Hamilton today and collect some caches along the way. I ended up in Hawera and collected 46 caches in doing so.
After checking in at the camping ground it was on the bike to grab a few caches before having a beer. I was able to grab, sign and return between the traffic. Thank you for the placement.

30-Nov-19
Definitely one that you have to use your brain and very hard with lots of people and traffic around

26-Nov-19
Out for an evening stroll and of course grab a cache or two...found and went too sign..the word bugger springs to mind NO pen...ha ha but wait the park store is open yippee...signed and replaced as found..I like these camo s... thanks Rick-a - Mortis..nice placement

26-Nov-19
We parked our motor home in the NZMCA park and rested up after a night of social activity followed by a bit of geocaching. Nothing keeps me down for long, so as the caches in this park were close by we headed out. Oh no! The dreaded no pen syndrome. As we progressed up the park we realised that micro caches weren't going to be supplied with a pen. Luckily the Park Store sold pens individually so yes, we could sign this off and head back for the others. Thanks for the placement Rick-a-mortis.

05-Sep-19
So after walking across the road to the heros then back again and another big search by miss 9year old even though I finally worked out where this one was and made her look cause I'm just that mean we signed the log and replaced it back haha thank you for the cache I now understand what the numbers meant and it's definitely there

04-Sep-19
arrived to find two lovely council ladies washing the gates to the park.gps pointed to where the cache was but sadly could not find

03-Sep-19
Could not find both I and miss 9year old we looked high and low but nothing even the clue hint was of useless and little help maybe next time
gps was off also sadly not our day to find any being dnf number two of the day

I parked across the road and as I was crossing the road I saw where my gps was pointing me to and I had an idea of what the cache hide may be and sure enough I quickly spotted the cache. I was glad I was tall enough to reach for the cache.

TFTC Smile

Cache number one for Saturday, the sun is out and it's going to be a great day in the Naki!

Up here for an awesome weekend jaunt with Team Gators, TheWanglers and Karma Reprint to do a loop of the mountain in 48 hours grabbing as many caches as we could while having a good laugh. Logs signed as some derivative of (KT)^2

Cheers Rick-a-mortis for the cache

10-Aug-19
Day two Hawera to New Plymouth via Opunake

Great to be out and about, find quickly made. Cheers

A long weekend cache raid to Taranaki. The weather didn't stop us doing anything, and we had fun times. Logs were signed with a combination of KT and 2 depending one which of did the signing. Thanks Kiwi Moose, Team_Gaters and TheWanglers for a choice time.

Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

10-Aug-19
A planned geocaching trip to the USA was shelved (but is all go for this time next year!) so we came up with a weekends Plan B. Taranaki with TheWanglers, KarmaReprint and KiwiMoose - logs signed (TK)^2 or a variation of. A really fun trip with the forecast rain and thunder seemingly always in the distance but never hindering us. A really fun weekend.
Day 2 dawned with a bit of drizzle but that soon cleared (whilst eating breakfast) and we had a lovely trip missing all the bad weather again. Harwea to New Plymouth the long way. Heaps of history; cool scenery and lots of laughs. Cheers all!
First cache of the new day. Soon enough in hand and being signed. Nice one!

10-Aug-19
A plan was hatched for a few of us to head to America for a Mad Mission. With life getting a bit crazy a downsized trip was organised as I had sorted childcare for the cachelets. The big America trip is now set for next year. We asked a member of our crew if we could go to Nelson, Dunedin, Auckland, Wellington, Hastings the answer all came back "I don't have many to find there". We left it to that member to suggest an area. He came up with New Plymouth and a loop around the mountain. That's a go from the rest of us. We sorted puzzles, gpxs, motels and a car and hit the ground running. The forecast was doom, gloom, rain, hail and lightning. Oh well, sounds exciting. We had very little of any of the weather that affected our caching and found we had all overpacked (thank God!).
Day 2: Today was a long day in the car 14 hours or so to our home for the night and then an hour or two after dinner before having a beer at the campground. We started in Hawera and went the long way around the coast with many detours. The history was amazing and the the lack of irrigation was very noticable to us Cantabrians. We once again missed the horrible weather!
Nice quick one to start the day off.

Thanks for the cache Rick-a-mortis.

Find 1 of 80 for today.
Find 81 of 224 for the trip.

16-Jul-19
It took me a very long time to spot the hint object, although it is very clear. The hide itself was relatively quick once I checked and ruled out two red herrings

13-Jul-19
Visited the sight as travelling through Hawera I walked across the road to look at the monument to the two locals VC recipients. One was really quite young to receive this award while the other a little older higher ranking officer.
Very interesting and thank you for bringing me to this site. I like these caches being quite familiar with them by now.

08-Jul-19
A quick find on our way to lunch with friends. Love this kind of hide. Out in the open that only a cacher would know what it was. TFTC

08-Jul-19
While I searched somewhere entirely different that I thought matched the clue Trayc.g yelled out that she had spotted it. SL quickly then on our way to friends for lunch and a play date.

30-Jun-19
We had planned to come to Hawera a few weeks ago just for the day to attend a special geocaching event we left home at 6am this is cache number 4 for the morning so far, nice quick find here we knew what we were looking for once we got to ground zero. TFTC

12-Jun-19
A handy park and grab at an interesting location. Just what I needed after a lunch time drive to fill a dot day. Thanks.

09-Jun-19
Thanks for the cache Cheers

04-Jun-19
Spotted the cache but both of us being a bit vertically challanged and having no tools with us we could not sign the log. Thought about acquiring a passing child to assist but they were all in cars due to the rain

03-Jun-19
Was a good one took me a while but found it lol

23-May-19
OMG that is bloody clever

12-May-19
Despite the young Rattll's having grown up and left home, Mr Rattll was taking Mrs Rattll on a mother's Day geo-caching trip to celebrate the day.
We decided to head to Hawera as quite a few newer caches have popped up since our last visit.
After being slightly distracted by an area near by we looked closer at where the GPS wanted to go and the cache was quickly in hand.
Thanks for setting this up Rick-a-mortis

02-May-19
A quick find and thank goodness Anzac Day was over TFTC

28-Apr-19
Met one hide like this some time ago in Tauranga - took me ages to cotton on to where and what it was. This is a great hide too, and encouraged me to check out another spot I would have otherwise neglected. TFTC

23-Apr-19
Awesome hide

16-Apr-19
Omg Rick-a-mortis you certainly set the bar high. After nearly giving up several times and finally deciding to go did I stumble upon it. Very clever

06-Apr-19
Decided not to look at the hint so ended up looking longer than I should have before locating it. Interestingly it was the first place I'd looked at and failed to notice it - even though I have seen a few of these before. Hawera was my home town as a child and I spent many a day down at the nearby King Edward Park. Tftc,

04-Apr-19
Was in New Plymouth for work, after finishing work in town, it was time to start making my way South and start heading home. Was thinking to myself what cache should I look at getting today and I decided that I would check my GPSr and decided that I might as well go and get this cache in Hawera.

Had a look at the cache page and soon realised that this cache was a drive by cache and knowing this it made good sense to go and get this cache as I was very limited on time. As I made my way into Hawera I decided that I would follow the route suggested by the GPSr.

Arriving near the GZ, I managed to find a safe parking spot not too far from GZ, well it was so close that I could virtually reach out of the car and touch GZ. As I was getting out of the car I spotted the cache, well that was quite obvious as long as you know what you were looking for.

Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then replaced the cache back as found. Thanks Rick-a-mortis for placing this clever little cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (14374). Definitely a great spot for a cache, thanks for placing it here and for showing me this historical spot, definitely would not have know about it if it was not for Geocaching.

Now it is time to make our way out of here and go and get some dinner as my tummy was starting to talk to me.

Perfect weekend to come up this way for a spot of caching, enjoyed the weather and the many caches we found. thanks for the placement. - spotted this one straight away next was how to get to the cache.

17-Mar-19
I had come down to Hawera from Stratford to attend a Service at St Joseph's church for the victims of Christchurch and drove past this spot on my way there, I noticed a memorial had popped up across the road for Christchurch and even though I am struggling with "normal activities", I took this as a small sign that it was ok and not disrespectful. After the service and after dropping off some flowers at the Hawera Muslim centre, I made my way here and made the quick grab from its perch overlooking the memorials.
