What an amazing effort! Great local history lesson for little Miss Cache and me
Suscoe has sent our answers to the Cache Owner Fredd0Suscoe headed out for a day wandering along the coast from Robe down to Beachport. We found caches close to the ocean and some inland. The ocean looked great today and the beaches were splendid. We lost count of the birds we saw today which included birds of prey, parrots, cockatoos, pigeons and finches. We found a terrific variety of caches and enjoyed our day out. Thanks to Fredd0 for this Earth Cache. We enjoyed the opportunity to just stand there and wonder at the work done.
Not only did I get history lesson at this site today, I also had a geology lesson. Two classes I never enjoyed as a school kid, but as a grown adult who enjoys geocaching, I get a buzz out of learning about such things nowadays.Thank you for bringing me to this very interesting place to teach me some new things about the world I live in.TFTC fredd0Keep smiling
We hadn't intended to call in here, but when I spotted an earthcache at a suitable point to break the journey, GSEL was kind enough to allow a brief diversion.. and we were so glad we stopped! That is an amazing view, and the information boards are well worth a read. As I've finally got organised enough to send my answers through to the CO, I am finally getting around to logging this one. I would like to show my respect and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land, and their continuing connection to it. I wish to pay my respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging.
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on a SA caching foray. Staying in Robe for a few days to grab some finds. Beautiful winters day as we range to Rendelham and Beachport tidying up straggler caches. Boy were we ever impressed with this location. What a mammoth effort this undertaking was. Amazing. Thanks for the EC fredd0. LNCU
Travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching road trip, using geocaching as our guide. We are now based in beautiful Robe and exploring the wild coastline and countryside. Thanks for the EC. ??LNCU
Always enjoy an Earthcache as amazing places and geological formations are showcased. Ive discovered so many lovely and unique locations and this has been added to my list. This place in particular mesuch engineering and determination in creating this an amazing feat of durability and determination. A landowner would never be able to do this today, with all the red tape we contend with!Answers sent to CO and thanks fredd0 for showcasing this special place , contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy.
TFTC GeoVenture2020 for placing this cache, number 13517 for me. Adding photos while I remember!I would like to show my respect and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land, and their continuing connection to it. Really nice spot to stop and have a bite to eat as well as look at the surrounding areas.
#14,531. I visited South Australia with geocaching buddy Infoferret. We came over to attend the Great Leap Forward Event on 29 Feb and flying out from Melbourne. Doing a catch-up on virtuals and earthcaches after returning to New Zealand. We stopped here on the way to Melbourne to look at this interesting earthcache. This was quite a feat of engineering to cut through the rock and create a drainage channel to lower a swamp but still farm the area inland. Interesting to see the machinery and display boards. Gathered our interpretation of what we could see and sent the answers to the CO on behalf of GSEL and Infoferret. Thanks fredd0 for bringing us to this interesting earthcache.
Date: 24 February 2024 Time: 5:45 pmFind #14423One of the coolest Earth cache locations I have been to in some time. Well worth a visit.Massive thanks go to GeoVenture2020 for placing this one.
Staying at Beachport with Mount Lofty Ranges 4x4 Club. Doing a day trip to introduce a few people to Geocaching. Thanks for the cache. Will email answers.
Thanks for this interesting earth cache. It has been years since I last visited, and well worth the return trip. The lookout has been improved, and I liked the decorative detail on the lookout fence, being the local council logo and the CAT digger. An amazing achievement for just 2 men and minimal equipment.
Such a big undertaking and you don't get a feel for the size and scale of the cutting until you are on the landing.TftcPete
What an interesting location. I took the time to read all the signs and have a good look at the cutting. Some interesting machinery left behind too. Answers to the CO. Thanks for the visit. Check out my photos
Isn't man and nature, forces to be reckoned with. The work put into the incredible construction of this cutting is mindblowing. It was great to see this site updated and made strong again to share with our visitiors to the region.TFTEC and happy Earthcache day.Answers sent to CO
We travelled to Beachport this weekend for a rare three-day getaway and a special birthday event. The weather was pretty ordinary but the touring via caching was fantastic.
Now that is some cutting. Particularly when one sees the machinery that was used at the time. The precision was incredible too. Provides a very interesting earthcache. Thank you for placing this here GeoVenture2020 and Fredd0.

We both really enjoyed coming out and doing this cache even if it wasn't on our planned route home. We found this very interesting as was this immediate area in general. The things people used to do was incredible. Thanks for this great cache. A favourite for me.
This wasn't the direction that we were taking to get home but after reading about this cache, we quickly changed our mind. So pleased we did as this was very interesting. Thank you. A favourite for us.
What an amazing effort cutting this drain. A great display here as well so much to be learned including the geological landscape.
Many thanks for this earthcache.
Many thanks for this earthcache.
This is the second time Pa and I have stopped here over the years but the first since this Earth cache was published. It certainly has focussed my attention more closely on the geological features here. What an incredible piece of work and it was done before the environment became a talking point . I wonder if the Green Movement would approve?
When you travel further up the road to the lookout, you can more fully understand the difference this work made to the land and livelihood of those involved. TFTC GeoVenture2020

Away for a couple of days with Featherwaite.
We concentrated on Kingston, Robe, Cape Jaffa, Beachport and Southend.
We mainly found all the cache we were looking for.
Answers were gathered and sent to cache owner. Visited here with cache owner in 2015.

Heading home to Ballarat from Millicent...the long long way...and of course stopped off for a couple of caches along the way. Worked out my answers, which have been sent to the CO. Any interesting area that I remember visiting way back in 2001.

After attending the Rutherglen mega I am travelling towards Adelaide with TeamAstro Today’s geo-adventures were from Millicent, through Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell to Kingston SE.
That is an amazing cutting. Even more amazing to think it was done in just 3 years with the equipment here. TFTEC

Today on our travels around the Limestone Coast we visited more interesting sites. This was a great spot to stop. No one in the group had heard of this construction, many of them 'older' so it was made in their lifetimes. The work done here by just 2 men amazed them. (and me)
It really is an interesting vantage point and quite fascinating that such a construction was done to allow better use of the land.
Australians can do anything!!!
Thanks for showing us this.

A different direction, down SE for a change with Jack, Purrfect Di and the froghoppin folk.
Not a lot of caches, but a lot of fun. Sunshine, snakes and smilies
Great cat tribute.
Oh and rocks... there was stuff about the rock - we sent it to the CO.
An impressive task for the guys way back when.
Appreciation for the cache placement fredd0 , and ongoing maintenance
--------------------------------------
Do please take care out there,
it's a dangerous world filled with rusty old mint tins and objects falling from trees
...... but a cache a day still keeps the boredom away
--------
Most of our caches are logged using the resources of gsak, garmin, and androids.
No apples or other fruit needed An apple a day doesn't keep the doctor away, we've tried that
----------
Make sure that Travel Bugs are the Only bugs you share and pass on (Covid cancels caching!)
Keep a safe distance - clean and cache the countryside
It's awesome of all those placing quality caches out and about around our country areas,
in sensible safe places and containers especially! - it keeps our game fun, and interesting
Of course we do appreciate if you actually did read all this extra addition to the log word count! There's a challenge somewhere out there, or so we've been told! You win a virtual smiley for the effort and getting to the end of the log Maybe if I worked out where it is I could do it and go back to normal logs again ! If you find the challenge let me know and perhaps we can put an end to these long logs !!!

This is a very well presented and informative viewpoint. Another signboard explaining the old sand dune geology would be good as well.
Found today while in Mount Gambier for our annual square dance weekend. Todays bus trip brought us to this unique location. TFTC. Answers forwarded.
Completed this in a break in the showers with Bindi the geo pooch!! (she didnt like the metal floor of the lookout platform!!) Alawys an interesting spot to stop at .... answers forwarded to CO (a favourite)
We read about this cutting before we realised there was an EC here so extra bonus exploring this location. Amazing what they did here with the equipment
They had. The answers were obtained and finally sent to the CO.

Very impressive construction. Thanks for placing an Earthcache here Freddo, as we love hides like this, taking us to interesting places we would have otherwise never found if it wasn’t for Geocaching. A fav point from us. TFTC fredd0.On the hunting trail again with SeasonedBird. I’ll leave the more interesting & detailed log to Mrs Geo (aka: SeasonedBird, Salty Chook, the Old Boiler, Old Chook, Dirty Bird or Angry Bird) because she writes so much more eloquently than I and usually has much more time to do so while I’m driving. It’s a great day for caching. TFTC fredd0

While at the Millicent mega recently ‘somebody’ told us about this cutting and thought we might be interested. Today we visited and... WOW! That is quite something. What a feat! After a good look here we had our answers for the CO and then drove up the road to have a look at the fertile farmlands that are a result of this hard work.

The great Geoventure 2020 tour....take 2...which is of course now in 2021 Once again it myself and AnyMules doing things that not many sane people would attempt. [:o)]
Day 8: With a break in the weather and some sunshine we decided it was time to go for a walk in the Penola Conservation Park Then it was a cache of just following the trail of unfound caches.
* If anything was particularly interesting then there will be a comment
Here.. What a great place to visit. Didn't even know this was here. The CO has apparently given a YES to our answers. Thanks for bringing us. Have a favorite point. [:X][:X]
otherwise we found all the caches we looked for and they were in good condition.
Only one of the three goals from last year achieved. So once again trying and fill my calendar with multi-caches and complete loop 11 again this year. [^] For my third goal I will try and get my DNF numbers from over fifty to single digits. That should keep me busy again this year! [:o)]
***Thanks fredd0 for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***

Today we travelled from Beachport to Adelaide and along the way went to see the impressive Woakwine Cutting. The fact that it was cut with only small machinery is amazing and a testament to the commitment of landowners in the area to make their land more productive.

Found on a camping trip to the Coorong and Southeast areas with brisal5, FeatherWaite and a non-geocaching friend who was visiting from Tasmania.
My main aim of the visit was to show my friend around, however we also took the opportunity to find a few caches along the way. We had a great time visiting some of the beaches and other areas.
We were lucky with the weather - mostly warm and still. However, the last day was very hot, so didn't worry about finding any caches on the way home.
I am planning to be down in the Southeast again in a few days to find a few more caches and attend the events at Millicent and Naracoorte.
Thanks GeoVenture2020 for the cache.

Called past to do the reasearch on this earthcache during a trip to the Coorong and the Southeast areas, travelling around the Narrung Peninsula and down the Coorong, camping out at Tea Tree Crossing and Little Dip, and meandering the country roads in search of an assortment of Traditional, Earth, Multi and Puzzle caches before heading back home via Lucindale, Padthaway and Keith. Answers sent for confirmation by e.gregory1. Thanks for the interesting earthcache GeoVenture2020!
It was indeed a very peaceful day... perhaps too much and I found that by late afternoon it was bordering towards bordom. With the afternoons wild wind the beach wasn't as appealing as a drive out for a few caches!
I'm not a huge fan of earthcaches as they often require a geology degree to understand but not these SA ones, not only can I enjoy the locations but also the lesson and answer the questions too.
Has been a while since I was here so nice to return for another look, a massive undertaking! Thanks for the EC, answer sent.

We are heading across to Adelaide for a few days picking up a few labs along the way as with all the crowds around this is the easiest form of caching but in the quieter areas we will grab what pops up.
We have visited this site a few times in the past but this is the first time with this look out installed.
Although the views were fantastic we did battle a little bit trying to work out the answers to the questions but it certainly made us study the area a lot closer as well as the massive amount of work that was conducted here. A definite feat with the machinery used at the time.
We collected what we hope are the right answers and have sent them off to the CO and hopefully they are good enough for this log to remain, if not we will happily delete it.
Thanks again GeoVenture2020 for the cache.

Having been in Beachport recently and seen the cache that you need to swim/wade to, over drinks last night with Geo Buddies Sylken... a plan was hatched to visit this morning at low tide! [:o)]
Well maybe a bit more homework was required coz the alarm went off at 0630hrs and we hauled ourselves into the Geomobiles before 0730! Arriving at the crossing point to find that low tide wasnt really low enough and the swell was more of a problem than the tide! Dang and tarnation. Oh well the 2nd plan of attack for today was the 4x4 cache Moon Dunes so off we went via a couple of other diversions (caches) . Coming out further north than intended we 'had to' tackle 12 more caches before retuning home in time for happy hour! Finally a nice sunny day for our stay in Millicent, albeit only 6 degrees when we arrived in Beachport.
A great memorable day with some smilies with friends.
Info collected, Message sent to CO.

We exited the dunes at Nora Creina and then grabbed a few more caches on the way back to Millicent.

This weekend, jesswrigley and I headed to Glencoe and Mount Gambier for some scuba diving, 4WD and geocaching/sightseeing adventures. Saturday was spent cave diving, Sunday was used to dive Ewens Ponds and 4WD along the southern coast from Port MacDonnell to Blackfellows Caves, while Monday we drove back to Adelaide via Millicent, Southend, Beachport, and Cape Jaffa. A busy long weekend in the south-east.
Today, jesswrigley and I were on our return back to Adelaide, and I had wanted to go via the limestone coast towns of Southend and Beachport. We travelled through Millicent, and ended up staying around longer, bumping into a few other local and seasoned Geocachers. A few interesting geocaches at Southend were found, and then lunch was had in Beachport. We visited the Woakwine Cutting, something I had only seen once before when I was a kid, and a final detour into Cape Jaffa to see those lighthouse ruins. We ended up arriving back into Adelaide rather late, but otherwise was a full day of adventure and sightseeing.
As mentioned above, I hadn't been back here since I was roughly eight years old, and I had a fond memory of this gorge being spectactular. Hence, it was good to be back again, and bring jesswrigley to show her the cuttings. It is truly impressive to think that these were dug out, with the technology at the time. Thanks GeoVenture2020 committee for the EarthCache placement, and Freddo/fredd0 for its ongoing maintenance. Answers collected, and sent to the CO.

Round the world trip On my way towards Sydney... Next Stopp: Portland. Found this earthcache just fine. It looks amazing, thought it is nature-made until I red the task...
Vielen Dank fürs legen und pflegen und beste Grüße aus Leipzig!
Thanks for hiding and many greetings from Leipzig/Germany!

An amazing piece of earth engineering to be sure, given it was done by two people with only a bulldozer and a couple of other pieces of equipment. Can't imagine it being done today, trying to get approvals from multiple departments of multiple layers of government , OHS requirements, insurances, environmental impact assessments etc......
Thanks for this earthcache GeoVenture2020/Freddo.

First time we have been here since the new platform was installed and today being earth cache day we just had to visit. TFTC
Found It!
I've been here before. No need to wait out any tourists this time though. Answers have been sent to a CO, but maybe not the CO...

A nice view over the cutting here
Today I headed from Mt gambier back home to Adelaide, with hosting 2 events along the way it made for a good reason to cache along the way.

Enjoyed learning about the Woakwine cutting while geocaching. Thanks for bringing us to this location! TFTC.
I caught up with scramping in Robe for lunch on my way to my to Beachport to visit my family...
The wind was blowing a gale & the rain had been pelting down...
I have stopped here many times including with the GV2020 committee...
I was also checking on my traditional cache...
It still amazes me the feats men goes through in the farming community...

Wow. We were bowled over by the size of this trench. While fossilized dunes are not the hardest rock it is still amazing that a farmer did this on his own.
Thanks for the cache GeoVenture2020. We struggled with the ages but have sent out contribution by message.
We are visiting from South Africa. . Landed in Sydney and are driving along the coast to Adelaide.
Vir die Suid Afrikaaners. Ons is op toer van Port Elizabeth. Eers na Singapoer en dan na Australia. Ons het in Sydney geland en ry kuslangs na Adelaide. Baie lekker.

Feel so old. And so inadequate. Who knew that a guy with a bulldozer could do that.
Today we are in Robe staying at the geohusband's sister's shack. We were surprised when both sisters in law said they would like to come out for the day on a day trip to Beachport to collect some caches. They enjoyed it so much we continued on to Southend to find a few there as well. It was a super day out, we all thoroughly enjoyed, the hound is knackered on the couch now. It was a day of changeable weather, wind, rain, sunshine. Made for fun caching.
Enjoyed a fab lunch at the cafe in Beachport and then back home for tea and chocolates. Love caching in the South East.
We loved finding the original cache at Woakwine, so happy to see an Earthcache here. Hound didn't manage to find his way back into the machinery enclosure but he still enjoyed a good look around. Sisters in law wanted to see where the real cache was so we also looked for that and found it on the ground so replaced it where we found it last time.
The drain has recently been dredged so was looking spic, collected info and then headed onwards to Beachport.
Will send our answers when back at work on Monday.
TFTC GeoVenture2020, shame we won't be able to make it to the Mega,,,,

The seas were not conducive to fishing, so we needed something to do. A country caching trip from Southend to Millicent (for petrol), Kangaroo Inn, Robe (for lunch) and then back to Southend via Beachport was planned targeting a couple of caches for Fizzy Grids and some Jasmer grid gaps also. We finished with 5 finds, 1 DNF, lots of kms and some great photos.
We ended up here by accident after ignoring the maps and just following others who we were travelling with. The map said (and I told them) that we wanted to go to Woakwine, without realising that there are more than one woakwine location in the area, we ended up at the cutting instead of the Conservation Park (which is where there is a cache that I had targeted). Never mind, this is a great location too and allowed us to find a traditional and attempt to answer an earthcache. The last task wasn’t particularly easy as the late afternoon shadows made it difficult to see the detail needed to answer the questions.
I would recommend being here while the sun is still high so that there aren’t shadows on the cutting.
Despite not intending to be here this was a really interesting location and the cache page taught me about ridge formations from dunes, which was all new to me.
Thanks for this unintended adventure GeoVenture2020. Answers have been submitted.

TFTC Thank you for hiding this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity. This is a great location and such interesting history.
Hi there GeoVenture2020. Another driving day - this time from Lake Albert to Robe. A chance turn in the right place brought us here to visit this spot and also claim the Earthcache here. Answers will be sent to the CO. This is an amazing task by the landowner - the first that I have heard of in Australia. Thanks to GeoVenture2020 for this Earthcache - our find #6376.
A lot of work required. It must have worked as there did not appear to be any water in the drain today. Answers sent. TFTC
