# 9496 Happy International Earthcache day ! iPlod65 and I dropped by this one on the way home from a brunch at the National Library. It was busy as it's school holidays and Floriade is on. But we got to park nearby without too much trouble. I've never seen this rock garden before but it is quite lovely. Answers sent to the CO.Thanks dty73 for the Earthcache
Chasing another one of those funny digital icons (and choosing to do it on the day - a rarity 'round these parts, it seems) led me to the NMA today.I didn't necessarily intend to come bang on closing time, although it was a boon to my carpark options (and I'll have to wait for another day to have another wander around the museum itself).I was unaccompanied by anyone but the local bees in this gorgeous little garden where this really nicely set-out EarthCache could be completed.A succinct but very useful description to brush up on my sandstone knowledge paired with some clear instructions that prompted a bit of thinking made this an enjoyable affair. The answers were approved by the CO to round out another great International EarthCache Day!Thanks to dty73 for setting up this EarthCache!
Thank you for bringing me here to visit these nice sculptures.Another place I would never have noticed, or visited, were it not for geocaching and earthcaches.Happy world Earthcache day!
Given that the Cosmic Quest ends soon, I thought that it was time to focus on Earthcaches to maximise the points that I'll contribute to the global total I headed out here after dinner and picked up this cache and a couple of others in the area. Even though the temperature gauge on the car said 12 degrees, there was a cold wind coming off the lake.Anyway, these sandstone blocks are, indeed, beautiful. I appreciated the artworks that have been carved into them. Thank you for bringing me here, dty73
For some reason I decided to start a streak throughout the school holidays. Why? I'm not entirely sure. I don't have any reason to, and I'm certainly not going to beat my previous streak (366 days for the challenges, which I have no desire to replicate). My only guess is that it provides good motivation to get out and about daily, which so far it definitely has. I'm trying to utilize my holidays as much as possible, since once school goes back caching is likely going to occur exclusively on weekends since winter daylight is so short! So I guess the streak helps with that!Anyways, after previous activities earlier in the day, it was 4pm when I headed out and about for a streak find. My first mistake was leaving so late, since darkness started falling, and (as the CO notes) it was rather cold! It's fine, I don't need functioning hands anyways. This earthcache was first on the list, and after showing up the artworks were admired, answers were noted, and photos snapped!Off the answers go through the web and approval to log received!Afterwards the bike navigated some stairs gracefully and off I went around to pick up the nearby virtual. Unfortunately the other cache I was planning to do was blocked by extensive fencing warning of asbestos. That's unfortunate! From there I wondered whether I had enough daylight to tick off a cache which was only about 2km away as the crow flies, but across the lake.I didn't, since it got dark as I was finding the cache, but you bet I did it anyways! Thanks for the excellent earthcache dty73!
While in Canberra I made it one of my jobs to find as many Earthcaches as possible because I like them and Im running out of Earthcaches I havent done near home. This one was based in a beautiful setting of the Australian Museum, which is a new building to me. Its that long since I was in this part of Canberra. Thanks for bringing us here!
Answers sent. I expected to find more caches on this peninsula but still put a fairly decent dent in them. I remember the museum being bigger somehow I was a little underwhelmed. Thanks for the cache though, I heard something rustling in the grass as I figured out my answers. TFTC
An interesting sculpture we might ordinarily have walked straight past but stopped and had a longer look. We love the look of sandstone and were keen to use it to clad our house at one stage, but that was not to be. We made our observations and had a number of speculations because of the rather perplexing differences in the lines through the stone.Answers sent.Once the sun had broken through and things had warmed up a bit we headed off to the Botanic Gardens a place we had visited many years ago. The Rainforest Walk Mrs SKI remembered, and it is just like some areas close to where we live, The banksias were out and well worth a look. Some in flower we have in our garden at home! You can't be in this area without a visit to Black Mountain, but it is looking quite sad and run down. Most of the viewing areas are now obscured and the Tower is closed. Then it was time to head to the museum, and finally pout for a big tea down south, that we probably should have passed on, but was still enjoyable.Of course we collected a few caches on the way, quite a variety.Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache dty73.**SKI Pair****
We went there, It's interesting about Sandstone Garden. It's great to have Team work to work out with it. One of our deaf team had sent the answers. fav from me. Thanks, dty73 for placing the earthcache.

Thanks for the earthcache dty73.Visiting Canberra for Easter to visit my son and daughter-in-law, and to attend the Capital Geobash event.Today was my last day in Canberra, and with my family members back at work, today was set aside for 'touristy' stuff, so I headed to the museum. A bonus for an earthcache to be found here in the forecourt area. Beautiful examples of sandstone here. I then enjoyed a couple of hours in the museum.Answers sent to CO
In Canberra to attend the Capital Geo Bash mega event. I attended the Queanbeyan Mega event a couple of years ago which is when I did a lot of the touristy things. This trip was more focused on Geocaches. There has been an abundance of new high quality caches published since my last visit so more than enough to keep me busy. A quick stop here to enjoy this sandstone garden. Answers sent to CO and I have received permission to log. Thank you dty73, for placing NMAs Sandstone Garden for the geocaching community.# # #14510 # #

This is the Geobash boomerang trip, why boomerang? Whizzed past this area last week on the way home from South Australia and here I am back again. This cache, why?near the virtual Quite a few people said they didn't expect to see me back for the Mega here and neither did I once I'd returned to Brisbane last week. Some investigations on the car and a final decision on Wednesday night and the speedy turnaround on unpacking, washing and repacking the car saw me leaving Brisbane on Thursday lunch time and arriving in Canberra on Friday morning. Phew!Has been great catching up with everyone again and enjoying the activities and the wedding yesterday. Early start this morning and a bit chilly for a Queenslander but having fun scooting around finding caches before the car parade.Teamed up with surefoot24 to finish the Geobash Space Hunt competition today. Have a list of what we need to do and we is sticking to it- NO distractions!Answers have been sent for approval. TFTC

Full time Nomads, travelling around Australia since 2014. On the Capital GeoBash Paddlesteamer tour first up this morning. What an awesome tour, fun and informative. A foggy start when we drove out the driveway but it cleared only 500m down the road. After the tour we stopped for lunch (missed out yesterday so knew to make sure today) joined with 80degrees, m4yb, megawatt60, and barb2e with lots of chatter and maybe even introduced a new cacher. We were headed back to Parliament house but nope never got past ANU before stopping at a couple of linear AL's in town before racing back for the munzee event and our prebooked roast chicken dinner.answers sentTFTC dty73

I completed this earthcache on a visit from Adelaide to Canberra to attend the Capital GeoBash Mega event over Easter.Today I teamed up with FeatherWaite, Team Waldron, gridge98, CourtneyRose and Davidwazza. Logs were signed ABP to save time and space on the logsheets. It was a productive day, focusing mainly on caches of interest, with a variety of cache types. The weather was fine and quite warm, in contrast to some of the other times Ive been in Canberra over Easter.Team answers submitted by Freddo. Thanks dty73 for an interesting earthcache.
Found this during a fantastic weekend away at the Canberra Mega, with gridge98, Freddo, Team Waldron, e.gregory1, Davidwazza and Featherwaite. The log books were either signed with the name ABP or our individual caching names. Was an excellent Mega, grateful to be part of it!
Geological notes sent to the cache owner for approval. Interesting location. Thanks for the fun.The trip bit.Easter geocaching festival of twenty twenty four. This time it is the turn of Oz Mega GeoBash MEGA event in the nation's capital. It is time for a road trip across country to Canberra in the Sporty Pajero Sports. Freddo and Gridge98 traveling from Adelaide via a strange inland route that takes in scenic rural locations, dusty roads, punctured tyres, overheating batteries, various tools of the trade, special campgrounds, and lots scope for many many geocaching finds. Along the way we saw running emus, jumping kangaroos, wandering deer, dead foxes, herds of wooly sheep and stray steers.Arriving in Canberra we met our colleagues e.gregory1, featherwaite, team walron, courtney rose, davidwazza, e_smilie, and georode, signing as ABP, plus a huge group of other like minded excited mega geocachers attending event after event, and more events.Day one. Canberra to QueenbeeyanDay eight. Canberra to AdelaideThe generic bit.I will apologize right now, because everything from here on is here solely for the purpose of padding the word count and winning that one hundred word diamond badge again. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. A little confused as to which carpark we were supposed to be facing, so hoping the answers r sufficient to log this find
My intention for the day was to have a leisurely walk around the lake, picking up a few caches... but then I got sidetracked...This Earthcache and the Acton Peninsula sidetracked me for a good hour or more..I quite enjoyed looking at these art pieces, l also enjoyed a quick walk through the museum. (On my to do properly list for next visit)
Out the day taking the new wheels for a spin and remembered we also needed to get an Earth cache for the day. We have somehow missed calling into this one so called in today and some lovely looking sandstone here. Answers sent to the Co twice by mistake and got a prompt reply. Thanks for the EC dty73 gets a favorite from us as it was straight forward and easy to answer unlike some we did while away.
Answers have been sent to the CO and approved. Photo from our visit is attached. Having been to NMA a few times over the years, and jogged by on many an occasion, discovering these geological attractions and learning about them was a treat. Thanks dty73 for highlighting them and the earthcache lesson --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
What a beautiful little garden! Ive genuinely never seen it before in previous outings to the Museum, its an absolute beauty. That sandstone and the patterns are absolutely delightful!Beautiful day out in the capital madly racing around trying to collect 20 Earthcaches for September, purely because Im a lunatic Definitely in the right city for it, there are so many good ones in and around Canberra and this one is no exception.Fav point from methanks dty!
Found by Mary and David at 11:55. It certainly is an interesting "garden". Loved the various carvings. Our thanks to dty73.
Catching up with a missed logfound this cache on Day 1 of our Vic1 Canberra Run in company of Muzza, McLookers, Micaparamedic, Alansee, Moonb1, Maccamob, Rabbitoh and Pprass. We were aiming at mainly Ad labs today, virtuals and earth caches but if we were going close to other cache we were going to look for them as well.We had forgotten all about this one until we caught up with Rabbittoh at an event and he reminded us that we hadn't logged it as yet.We did enjoy collecting the information here as a group, it made for good discussions as well. The answers were sent off by Moonbi! for the whole group. Many thanks for a great little earth cache.
Answers sent on behalf of group Vic1 during our Canberra caching week. Thanks for informing us more about sandstone.
Here as part of a group, This was one of the caches that we did today. Many thanks dty73. Answers have been sent.
We found this cache on Day 1 of our Vic1 Canberra Run in company of Muzza, McLookers, Micaparamedic, Alansee, Moonb1, Maccamob, Team Crackers and Pprass. there is certainly a lot to see here, both in caching and otherwise. I have also learned quite a bit about sandstone. Thanks from D B-A

As the year has rolled around and things are getting a little bit back to normal, I was really happy to get into town and visit my work colleagues for a weekly coffee meeting. It seems there were plenty of different activities over the break and a great time was had. After the people part of the day, I set off to locate some caches not too far from civic for my caches for the day.
After a visit to the PS Enterprise, I headed to this end of the car park to check out these large pieces of stone. They have been well incorporated into the garden and manage to be impressive with all the plants around them. Answers sent.

We’ve been to this site a number of times but never stopped for the virtual or Earthcache so today we stopped for both as well as a quick tour of the museum. Thanks for adding some extra fun to the visit. TNLN TFTC
Finally a break in the miserable weather and happy to find an interesting cache to do. It is a lovely spot to view the rocks and the carvings. Visited late arvo so not many muggles around. TFTC
Cache 9364 on 8 Oct 2022.
After reviewing the various earthcaches I have saved up in the ACT I decided to focus on this one today for the earthcache souvenir as I am short on time today and wanted a nice easy terrain one!
It was the perfect time to head out, the sun was out and the car park not full. While I was the only one at the sandstone garden at 0930, I reckon you might get a few more logs floating in today. It was good to have a closer look at these monoliths. Logging with the very quick permission of the CO! Photo attached
Thanks dty73 for the earth cache and the fun!

We visited Canberra recently with the kids and they loved this garden. Luckily that gave me time to work out some answers to the cache questions. TFTC
After visiting the museum (where I also cloaked my suitcase) and also cycling around the lake, I did the visit of this EC as the last one in Canberra before heading to the airport. The answers to the questions have been sent to the owner, now that I am logging all my found and missed caches after returning home.
Many thanks for this EC, showing my nice stones again that I used to know from many mountains before - like the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Germany.

Pleasant day for a walk, and the kids loved looking at the carvings on the sandstone.
This garden is completely new since we last came down to the NMA. They have done some really lovely landscaping which is great to see.
Logging this cache with permission from the CO. The boys like to figure out the answers and also keen to see the new exhibition that is running at the NMA.

Logged with permission from the CO - with this Earthcache only bring a (sand)stone's throw from work it seemed like a good opportunity to take a morning detour before stepping into the office.
I like this part of the garden - maybe it's the quiet majesty of the stones, but most probably it's because they look like some sort of Myst-like puzzle that needs to be solved. And photo-realistic at that!
With a less than accurate GPSr position I had to take a bit of a stab at where the starting location actually was, but once I had things lined up everything made sense and the required info was quickly found.
Thanks for the cache dty73.

Found today. I'm in Canberra, moving my daughter down from Qld to start university. While she is in classes I'm doing the tourist thing and doing caches near all the attractions. Earth caches seem to be the easiest. Just take photos of what is needed and send in my answers when I get home.
Muggle65 and l came here and needed a jumper in the middle of summer. Very strange for we Queenslanders. Thank you for bringing us to this great spot
Having finally returned to BrisVegas I’m now able to go back through my notes to log this cache. The afternoon & I visited the cache on a date that the car park was full of joyed up cars & lottttttts of people gathering. Very busy location.

Earth caches are not my forte but I came, I looked, I scratched my head and submitted some answers that at least sounded good if not completely correct. Still, these are beautiful artworks and I did learn something about limestone.
This was my 11th cache type for the day on my quest for 12 different cache types in a day. One more to go!
