We were in Townsville Australia for the day on Holland America’s Amsterdam. We saw that there were many caches along the biking/walking trail along the Ross River. So we took a taxi about 7 miles out of the city and started our geocaching walk back to the port from there.
It did not start out well, as the first cache took us through some high grass, muddy and flooded area, and to a totally mosquito-infested area by the river - and it was raining. We did not take our repellent with us, not knowing how many mosquitos there were. On top of that we had to log a DNF, after a long but unsuccessful search for the cache.
We walked the muddy trail to the second cache and the mosquitos all around that area and it was still raining. We did find the cache quickly and moved on.
The next cache finally took us up onto the paved trail, out of the woods, and a few less mosquitos. By that time we were tired of all of the mosquitos. So Marbles walked to the nearest house, knocked on the door, and asked if he could buy any mosquito repellent they might have. The owners were very nice to us. They would not sell it to us, but brought out two cans of spray and let us put as much as we wanted on ourselves. We had a nice chat with them and moved on.
The rest of the day went much better – It stopped raining, the mosquitos stopped bothering us, and all of the other caches were either on or just off the paved trail. By the end of the day we found 26 caches and only added one more DNF.
Thank you to GeocachingTownsville for 15 of the caches in the RRPT trail series, OzGeoker for 3, choppersrule for 2, and the other 6 COs for their efforts and for their caches.

This cache:We found lots of mosquitos and mud here, but no cache. We'll put it on our Watch List to see what happens going forward.

RDO Bridge to Bridge adventure. Still trudging along and continuing on our war path whilst still donating our blood to the itch inducing vampires. TFTC
Cycling with the kids this morning and collected a few geocaches. We were lucky to spot a few wildlife too. Great scenery along the river.
Took a fair while, even looked at the spot where it was a few times and didn't see it but eventually found it
I've not really noticed any damage from the floods on me travels around towne !! [:o]
Sure there is a lot of debris left in the trees by the river along this trail,
but away from the river there's little evidence left
Cache found
High tide mark noted [:o]

Quick find on near darkness before heading back to Charters, 17 today but a few caches short of all souvenirs. Thanks for another cache.
Tftc - great condition and replaced as found - nothing taken/exchanged - our third find after the 2019 Floods.
After debating whether or not the splashing Muggle in the water was exercising or drowning and deciding on the former a quick find by H. He was hidden from Muggle who was focused on her regime. TFTC
TFTC ~ a quick stealthy find with some muggles about in the distance ~ TSLS ~ Signed Log & RAF.
TFTC. This is our last weekend in Townsville. So many caches and so little time. We decided that the Riverview Park would be a good for a hour or too. nice quick find year. Quick easy find here.
Got to within 40m but there was a muggle and dogs and chair. I suspect he was about to bust out a fishing rod, so I moved on.
Cache quickly discovered and log signed. Thank you OZgeoker for restoring and maintaining cache after floods for the enjoyment of others.
Cool spot by the water had to waite a muggle out but guess the mosquitoes chast him off.

Wandered down and found this after noticing it contained a TB on the app. Good little hidey spot with a bit of natural camo. Good to see the viewing platform handled the water flow nicely. Thanks for coming up and hiding these, Oz Geoker
It is great to see this park recover after the recent floods. Thabks OzGeoker for placing this one. I left a TB here for the next cacher
