Logs
Wet, with a cutting cold wind. Very muddy but made it dry foot avoiding the worst of the mud. First find for nearly twelve months made it worthwhile.Log is a little damp, but signed.Great hint! TFTC
A small group of us from Team SEAC consisting of Keylev, Stik-A-Crane, Uncle Sam and ourselves had come down from Auckland to spend the long weekend caching in the Manawatu area. The plan was to get as many as possible. Along the way we had some great adventures, many laughs, met some interesting people and found a wide selection of caches. Signed SEAC to save space on the log. TFTC.A day out today heading up to Apiti and then back down through Pohangina. Nice quick find here by Mr HeMaLuDy. Quite a bit of mud.
I believe Mr HeMaLuDy discovered this one.....I was walking too fast and over shot the tree in question .... Day 3 of our caching trip to Palmerston North area with HeMaLuDy, UncleSamNZ, Keylev, and myself, signing in as SEAC or TEAM SEAC to save logbook space. A big thanks to all the CO's for cache placement and maintenance, making this trip the success that it was.TFTC.
Day #3 of the Team SEAC extra long weekend little road trip for Labour Weekend. There were a couple of the hint items here but only one held the cache! Thanks for the cache.
Small group of caching buddies drove down from Auckland for the long weekend, and headed for Palmerston North area. Sorry for the generic posts, but we had so many caches to find.Had a great time, with so many laughs. Thanks to all the Cache owners who placed the caches. This was day 3 of our trip. All logs signed "SEAC" or "Team Seac"
The Pohangina Valley is one of those places that I simply wouldn't know about if it wasn't for geocaching. I have now been here a few times, although it's been a while since I was last in this village. But today I was in the company of Etherlord Clan, who was effectively killing 2 birds with 1 stone and getting some caching in as a bonus.
That meant I could clear out the last 2 remaining unfound caches (for me) on this side of the river. We weren't quite sure how to gain access to this one, as there are no trails showing on either of our maps, but it was surprisingly straightforward.
Once at GZ, a couple of minutes of searching came up with the decent sizes container, although sadly lots of water has also found the container and rather spoiled the contents. I was able to get out names into the log, but the CO could do a lot worse than check up on the cache and do a little maintenance. We left it in a more upright position than we found it, which may prevent things getting worse for the moment.
Thanks for putting it out.

I was last out this way 2 years ago for the same reason as today - dropping EtherGirl off at Camp Rangi Woods for Gangshow rehearsal camp.
With a bit more time up my sleeve today, I managed to tick off a few more caches along the way.
We've dropped EG off and are now on to the next task of a trademe item pickup in Pohangina village (on the otherside of the river when the bridge was washed away earlier in the year! )
TwigNZ was trying to figure out where the access point was and so we slowly crept down the road while keeping an eye out. Fortunately we quickly found what we were looking for and started our squelchy way down the track.
On approach, we identified two potential hosts. TwigNZ searched that one while I searched this one.
Coming up empty handed, I also started searching that one and soon saw the container wedged under something. And wedged it was! It took both of us pulling and lifting to get it free!
I suspect the ornate logbook would have looked marvelous went it was first placed, but time and moisture have definitely not been kind to the cardboard.
Thanks for placing this cache.
Yet another occurrence of "I wouldn't have known {this} was here if not for Geocaching"

Another nice walk to here and mrs c stayed in the car as I headed down the grassy path. Onto the hint item quickly and the cache was soon located. Log book a tad damp, added a legible signature and replaced as found. Off to the river next, and enjoyed some (plentiful) ripe blackberries. Another lonely cache was enjoyed, cheers girls.
After a busy long weekend of gardening, cleaning and groceries in preparation for our daughters wedding next weekend we reckoned we could manage a trip up Pohangina Valley for the new Ad Lab, and I noted a couple of possible Trad caches I'd skipped last time. Both were found, both were lonely with no finds since Nov 2011, so 15 months of solitude improved with my pen! Great quick walks for both caches, many thanks to the CO(s)

After having no luck at the previous site we wanted to try one more before heading back to Whanganui.
This was a nice stroll to GZ though it was made harder by having to carry Master 4 on my shoulders the whole way.
Once at GZ a quick search was had and we had the cache in hand. Signed the log and off we went again.
TFTC!

The day dawned dry and sunny, so whilst Mr Rubbishparty was at work I decided to cache near Pohangina. This was a quick find, due to the great hint. Cache well camouflaged and all dry. TFTC
with being a long weekend we decided on another trip to the Manawatu.
we based ourselves in Ashurst. with lots of caches around the general area.
main idea was to complete the 20/20 series which we had all the solves for now, plus anything else.
we checked ourselves into local pub, arriving just with enough time to have a couple of beers.
plan today head up thr valley one side back down the other.
caches all in fairly good order.
thanks to the owners for the placements.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... Roaming around the wide open spaces of the Manawatu this weekend. We’ve had the caching brakes on for far too long, and it’s a weekend to cut loose.
We missed the trailhead signage at the roadside and tried to find easy access to the cache. We met a local and he pointed us in the right direction... Once on track, this was a straight forward find. Thanks pohanginagirls and TFTC.

Our biggest problem with this cache was finding the start of the walkway (S40 10.199 E175 47.972). A man passing on a mobility scooter pointed us in the right direction, and it was then a straightforward walk to the cache which was a quick easy find at the somewhat unusual tree. TFTC
Loved the tree and thanks for the cache, not much water in the river at the moment, enjoying my weekend in Pohangina
I wanted to go for a bush walk today to end 2020. Not sure how we ended up here as it wasn't much of a bush walk, but at least I got to go geocaching!!
The kids loved throwing stones into the river....I think we were down there for a good 40mins! The cache was out in the open, possibly rolled out from its hiding spot. A quick sign of the log before heading off for some blueberry picking. Thanks for bringing us to this part of the river. It was so clear and peaceful!

I hadn't noticed this track before.
A nice short walk down to the river.
I spotted the cache from a distance while searching in the wrong spot.
Nice hide.
Thanks.

It was a lovely winter day and thus an enjoyable walk to this one. Lots of bees humming lambs frolicking and birds singing.
Another cute logbook and in good condition

There were a few fluffy four legged muggles to get around as we approached GZ.
They were no help making the find though.
We found it after a little search.
Thanks for setting this up for us to find.

Took a bit of hunting but we got there. Many thanks for a awesome cache. We loved the log book!
Passing through Pohangina to take a look at the Branch road track to locate a cache i had not found previously so we did a quick detour to locate these two newer caches as well. the track down to the one by the river does not look like it is used much at at. but the cache was easily found and replaced. - although the camo on the container is nearly all come off unfortunately.
this took some what longer than it should have but eventually we did locate it sign and replaced it. all was dry inside both of these Girl Guide caches.
Thank you for these two new caches up at Pohangina. Well Done.

A quick find and a good cache.A good camo job too.Wrote the log and re-concealed carefully.TFTC!
What a treat Mrs G chose for Mother's Day - first a drive up the Pohangina Valley, coloured today in beautiful watercolours of blues, purples, and greens with glowing autumn highlights of auburn, red and gold. Then the three new Girl Guide caches in the Pohangina Village area, followed by Devonshire scones and Mother's Day treats at County Fayre - perfect.
We appreciated the thought the Girl Guides had put into crafting their attractive caches, including the handmade logbooks.
Here we enjoyed discovering this walkway new to us. When we reached the cache vicinity we had to search around a little as there were possible hint objects, but the right one is certainly quite distinctive. Thanks for bringing us here and TFTC
We had met a young family starting down the walkway at the same time as us. Mr G mentioned we were geocaching, and then they were very interested to find out about the activity. So they came with us and had a little introductory lesson on caching. They certainly seemed to enjoy it. Maybe they'll take it up.

Need two caches today for my personal challenge, so a morning trip up to Pohangina to find the three new caches. Nice little morning walk down to the river. Thanks pohanginagirls for the cache.
This walkway deserves a cache and it is well placed at an unusual tree formation. Thanks pohanginagirls for this well stocked cache.
For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 8 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more I decided to come back to Pohangina to finish what I had started yesterday.
After I had the updated coords it was a nice walk to a nicely constructed cache.
Cheers for the cache.

WOW another {FTF} (12:00). Was at home doing some work on the computer and was deciding on where to go and find some caches for the day, being ANZAC Day, I really didnt want to go out too early as the ceremonies were in full force all over the place and I really didnt want to cause myself any issues. So decided that I would start looking at going somewhere after 09:00 and in the end with the three new caches that were published the temptation was far too much for me to leave so it was time to make my way to Pohangina and see if I could score a couple of FTFs.
The drive to GZ from home was about 2hours and 20 minutes, plus or minis a few. Leaving Wellington and making my way to the Manawatu the traffic was very light and were traveling at a good speed and behaving themselves. Finally after stoping off at Levin to fuel up the vehicle, it was time to make my way to Pohangina. In the end I arrived at the village of Pohangina at about 11:30 and decided to go and check out GC86NF3 - Pohangina village green (Pohangina, Manawatu), but I soon realised that this cache was not were it should be as I started making my way towards GZ, I soon realised that I was entering private property and decided to leave as quickly as possible.
Managed to get back to where I parked the car and decided that it was time to make tracks to another cache. Decided to drive down Pohangina Road and soon spotted the entrance to Culling Walkway–Pohangina River Access, and managed to find a safe parking spot across the road from the entrance to the walkway. As I made my way out of the car I noted that there were fresh car tracks leaving the area that I had just parked and they werent that old. Making my way to the entrance and then it was time to follow this new walkway, as I was making my way down following the track the GPSr was advising me that the closest I could get was over 200 metres, hat was really strange and before I knew it I was soon at the Pohangina River, decided to take a left turn and see if the track was going to take me closer to GZ, but after going about 50 metres I came suddenly to a point of no access. Decided that it was time to go back to the track and head back towards the car, once I got back on to the track I decided to read the cache description and soon realised that there was more information on the cache page and soon realised that the cache must be within where I am at and the co-ordinates are totally wrong as it seems like they are on top of a house on Google satellite.
Decided that I would have a quick search in the obvious location and soon spotted something that matched the hint, decided to go and have a closer look and soon spotted something that needed a closer look and soon realised that it was the cache.
Managed to retrieve the cache, opened to find a pristine logsheet, signed and then replaced the cache back where I found it. Thanks pohanginagirls for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (14400). Yeetrees FTF craze also visited GZ as well, was very surprised that the cache is over 230 metres away, but managed to find it using Geosense. Was totally impressed with the size of the container as well as it contents, very impressive indeed and a job well done, love the work and effort that has gone into making the cache a great pleasure to find.
Now it is time to go back to the car and make my way to the next cache that I was looking for.....
