Oh, nice place! I always like these kind of historical places.Thank you for placing also a cache here!
This is a very interesting place to show. Please keep going! Thanks also for the story!
#4039 Today is day 22 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm driving the scenery route from Te Anau to Invercargill and finding geocaches along the way.Found it! Cool place. Love it that they preserved and restored the old building, including recreating the classroom. It's like it was frozen in time. FP given.Tuitigger, thank you for the cache!-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 22, 2024 @ 13:54:55[GC86VB2] Otahu Flat School (Southland) was a D1.5/T1.5 Small Traditional Cache at the time of finding.
A nice quick find at a nice tidy example of a country school. Thanks for placing your cache. Ms_KR and I are off on a cruise around the south of the South. Great to be away. The day was fine, and sunny as we travelled south to Invercargill.Occassionally signed MK+KR on cache logs, and apologies for the generic logs. Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches.
Almost felt sick when I saw the maths! Think I've got them, except I'm drawing the line at bushels. I know they sound romantic like roods, poles, and perches, but...! All those units were on the back of our exercise books but the best info was the road rules where you crossed out the things like 'never', so it said 'run across the road'. My dad told me that 100 pence is 8 shillings and 4 pence and 60 years later, I think it's the first time I've used it! Must be worth a favorite point for that. Thank you, Tuitigger
What a great location and a fun spot. I really enjoyed the math questions This definitely gets a favorite from me. .TFTC
An interesting snapshot of history and we did wonder what proportion of visitors were also geocachers. As former Maths teachers we are sadly aware that very few senior students could answer the questions today even with calculators and information about the imperial measurements needed.Thanks. A favourite from us.
Velk cesta do Ocenie - den 57 - Invercargill, Southland - Te Anau, Fjordland, South Island, Nov Zland (asi 250 km) Uvtalo m slunen rno a 15C a motorki vude kolem. Southern Scenic Route je zejm vyhledvan nejen turisty. Po sndani jsem polovila pr keek ve mst a stavila se v zednsk li na WC a pak jela do Bluff, nejjinjho msteka Jinho ostrova. Tady cesta kon a zem taky. Cel den bylo ndhern kolem 17C a slunce a v horskm dol pak naveer a 21C. Proda vude krsn. Jela jsem kolem nkolika jezer a mokad, pes ky, kde jsou jednoproud mostky, i mal osady a provoz tu byl u minimln. Cestou jsem lovila keky a dky nim navtvila teba starou kolu z 19.stolet i pkn star etzov most. In the morning I found a few caches in the city and then went to Bluff to the land end and to get an old cache on the hill. Again, a bit of a struggle with nature, but not so terrible. If you hit the right path, it works. Then I continued along the Southern Scenic Route around the coast and caches and reached the lake in Te Anau in Fjordland. Along the way, I saw a lot of beautiful places like the old chain bridge or the old school. I had a nice day. Thanks to everyone for the caches and greetings from the Czech Republic.Nice place and funny cache, send a FP.
Amazing! We loved the grand tour and put our names on the board ofcourse. Thanks for showing this...
Had a bit of fun with this one! I drive past here most weeks and have wanted to stop. Today was the day. Out on a geocaching day trip with CatseyesNZ. TFTC
TFTC driven past a fair few times over the years but never thought to stop. An interesting piece of Southland history
After traveling around Australia with Oopie for 7 weeks, we have now been traveling with the camper in New Zealand for 4 weeks. Along the way we will of course also visit various types of caches in beautiful places, including this one. Thanks CO for creating and laying this cache.
Together with Travelser I'm going Down Under. We are driving around with a motorhome. After 7 weeks driving around through Australia we arrived the 2th November in New Zealand. For ten days we will cross the Northern Island and than for 2 weeks the Southern Island.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.All the CO's, and in this case Tuitigger, thanks for bringing us here and give our trip a special accent.
Strange place for a school. Where are all the people. Signed the log book and also the black board. Tftc
As an ex-teacher, it was of course my duty to see if this school was in impeccable condition. But what did I have to see there? The janitor had neglected his duty and the children were eating during the lessons. O tempora, o mores! At least Holly kept her desk tidy! Thanks for the cache and the little chat with the "janitor"!bahaMAfive
Stopped off to find this cache, on way back from Borland Lodge. Thought I was too late for class and the classroom door was locked .... but with a jiggle and twist I managed to get a seat..... at the front of the class Lovely place especially with the sun shining. TFTC and a Fav from me
Found 7/6/23 great place with so much history glad we have these gems to visit and learn from tftc
Was so lovely to see this being restored. The strap was a bit scary though lol.
This place is a real treasure! It was very interesting leafing through the old newspaper. We dropped off a trackable here.
I found this today on my way from Te Anau to Riverton! Thanks for the Cache!
Greetings from a german visitor!
What a lovely place! Seems to be a lost place! Thanks for showing! I leave a FavPoint at the desk!

Travelling today from Tuatapere towards Te Anua & stopping to pick up a few caches on the way. Beautiful views across to the mountains as we drove along. What a fantastic little find this one was. So glad we stopped off for this cache. A favourite point given. Thanks for placing this one.
During our holiday in NZ we, geosnuf and I, also look for some geocaches, like this one.
After a tip from Wombats_4 we stopped here.
It is as she described it: at any moment the kids can storm into the classroom to listen to the teacher again.
We enjoy the beautiful nature, the pleasant encounters and the nice caches.
Thanks to the co's for bringing us here and for placing and maintaining this caches.
with pleasure a FP

Day 9 and we are continuing our journey around the South Island. Today we were heading to Te Anu. Stopped off here on our way through. Great little spot, thanks for placing this one here.
Delightful place, really enjoyed seeing this and imagining life in days gone by, the stories this building could tell! Thanks for the cache, Tuitigger!
Having grown up in the metric age, would first need to work out how many feet in a mile. TFTC
A quick easy find with the pretty unique hint at this old school. Although not quite 30's vintage, we certainly learnt mental arithmetic at school, so the problems were within our capabilities. As for calculators, we never had these and didn't need them. A favourite from us. TFTC
Te Anau to Bluff was the aiming for today and I found some good maintained caches.
Many of them with a good view.
Thanks and one point.

What a great place for a cache. Its just a bit of a shame it isn't kept a bit cleaner.
Thanks for putting a cache here though and encouraging us to look inside

What a wonderful idea for a cache. Thanks for making us stop here for a good look round such a great community effort. We'll done you.
Great cache. Wife interested in history so stopped to see the building Then found it had a cache Fp. Tftc
We over shot this one but luckily found room to turn the motorhome round. Another place we would not of seen if we had not been geocaching. Thank you for placing this cache in a piece of NZ history.
Out with wombat_4 TDronsfield caching in the deep south. What an amazing find a restored school house. Tftc
A lovely wee school - interesting history. Second placed I looked was Holly’s desk.
wombats_4 and TDronsfield are joining us today so help us find caches. Many thanks ladies.
Day 5 of the Loopppiiieee Tour (top to bottom, east to west). We are targeting the TWGTs for GraciesGPSfun; as well as the PWGT, CANZ, D/T and some oldie caches for both of us, as well as driving many kilometres AND, just as important, seeing the sights of the South Island and having a lot of fun. TFTC Tuitigger.

Cache 950 Travelling around today on a mini road trip with Ethness (Wellington) and GraciesGPSFun (Northland) and Wombats_4 behind the wheel the aim was to collect a few Adlabs and a few southern PWGT caches, being as I haven’t done a lot of caches in this area it was the ideal time for me to climb this months geo challenge mountain Mt Aconcagua as I hadn’t even got to base camp yet for the month
After going to the Clifden bridge we decided to make the sideways trip to this cache as we heard it was quite good, was told recently that we may have to climb in through the window as a door knob was missing but lucky for us both doors were wide open for us today, probably to let some fresh air in, what a neat location earns a fave point from me, cache is in great condition TFTC

Day #7 of my Summer Holiday and after spending New Years in Te Anau it was time to head back to Invercargill for a couple of days.
Decided at the last minute to take the scenic route back.
Well this was interesting...door knob was missing so couldn't get inside?! Window opened easily and there just happened to be a crate nearby for standing on and a broom to sweep the flies away - yes more flies Punishment for climbing in the window was to sit in the naughty corner for 5 minutes which I opted for rather than 5 whips of the strap that was in Miss Dawson's desk. Hmmmm that brought back memories of primary school and the one time I got the strap for talking in class This was such a fun cache and was great seeing the old school class room (but not the

Nice little school, but such a short life. Tiny classroom so would have been a dream to teach this sized class back in the day. Found Holly's desk and signed log. Left a painted stone to send off on a journey.
Now to continue on to Manapouri after spending the night at Clifden Suspension Bridge carpark in our motorhome. Lovely peaceful spot for a night or 2. TFTC.

The cows were very interested in is. They followed us and then stalked us. Jude_E was telling me that all the black stuff on the floor was rat poo. I took a closer look and discovered that they were flies.
I found this cache during a Mum Taxi service.
Unfortunately they had to abandon their trip an a few hours into the walk due to sickness.
Two of my children are walking the Routeburne. So I offered my services for drop off at the Glenorchy end and am picking them up at the TeAnau end. I invited Jude_E along for company, so we'll be taking a few detours along the way.
Thanks for hiding this cache Tuitigger I appreciate it.

Nosynel and I are having a caching trip now after our taxi service for Routeburn drop off and collect became unnecessary due to one of the trampers becoming ill and them leaving the track.
What a great initiative restoring this little school. I hope it will be maintained. I must say I have never seen so many flies in a room in my life! The cows also made it interesting to access and leave the building! Definitely worth a favourite! Thanks!

5 June 2021 2:21 PM. I will admit I shrieked shortly after the door was opened! Tftc.
Hats off to those that have put the time and energy into making this a very interesting place to visit. A bit erie walking into that classroom at the start. Neat hide. Didn't even try the calculations just enjoyed the visit. Have a favourite. TFTC # 16,785
Love this teeny tiny school. Great that the time has been taken to restore. Made my mark in the log book as well as the blackboard. Fav point from me TFTC
#9060. Today I am driving past on the way to Te Anau, picking up PWGT caches and then need to be back at Invercargill airport by 5pm. The weather has cleared now so its some stunning views along these roads. I parked by the display boards then crossed the paddock to the old school house. Found my way to the door and inside. What a fabulous recreation of life in a small rural school in the 1930s. The school teacher did make me jump when I opened the door. Soon found Hollys desk. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Enjoyed looking around at the classroom and reading what was up on the boards and wall. The maths questions looked tough enough to solve even with a calculator. How you did so with slide rule, abacus or long division defeats me. Thanks Tuitigger for hiding it here. Favourite for showing us a place we would otherwise have driven past. Picked up a trackable here as well today.
