Sir_Spectre and I went for a long weekend over to Victoria, we hosted some events and CITO's and was really impressed by all the people that made the effort to join us. Any caches that needed attention got it, with many log books being replaced or extras sheets added as needed. Thanks to all who placed and maintained caches for us to find

Found/solved with Mogni. Stopped at the listed co ords and took a selfie with the sign. Worked out the first 3 answers and parked in the carpark and strolled down to WP2. Got some answers there, it looks like some one has driven to this point recently. I enjoyed this earth cache more than any cache in the nearby LGA of swan hill. I think this is the 3rd earth cache this trip so far. Answers sent. Found with Mogni. The plan this October Long Weekend was to head over to Victoria and host 3 CITO's plus host my first geocaching event, also increase my finds to 20 in at least 5 victorian LGA's. Given that we were caching in the country alot of km's were travelled. The weather was raining on and off all saturday including the night time but by luck all 3 events that day were dry. The first CITO ( and the cache of the trip ) was in Kaniva at the wetlands, the next in CITO was in Dimboola at one of the rest areas, and placing a future challenage cache then slowly making our way to wycheproof canavan park which was our accomadation for the weekend and then up to Mount Wycheproof ( the smallest registered mountain in Australia - at 43metres tall ) for my coffee and sunset event. Sunday started off with a early 630 am CITO in the Mount Wycheproof wetlands reserve ( sorry i did forget about daylight savings when i made the time for the event but it was a dawn and light still ). Now off to swan hill ( which is my least favorite LGA to cache in ) and then a few more LGA's and back to the tent in the dark well past dinner. Then it was slowly heading home via the silo arts works along the way and walpuep and then over the border to pinaroo and home. We went through over a milk crate of spare containers and got 2 and 1/4 garage bags of cans and bottles. Any caches that were found broken/cracked/etc were replaced and any full log books were replaced.

What a very nice area to visit. we seam to be here at the right time the sun was just at the right spot. Got some amazing pictures.Looks like you are walking on air, you can not see where the water starts and the sky finishes. The cloud clusters were astonishing today. Thankyou for bringing us to this great little spot here on Lake Tyrrell Team Thommo, a great place to visit or even stay over night.LilDonna . . .

Ive stopped in here a few times when travelling north for work but I always seemed to pass through when it was dryenter this weekend when Im again heading north for work (but this time with the family in tow). The kids havent ever heard of, let alone seen a pink lake; & the recent rain meant it was a pretty sure bet. After a quick stop up the top, we ventured down to the board walk & spent some time looking at all there was to offer - from the pink hue of the water, to the crystal clusters floating on top, to the salt crystals binding themselves to the few pieces of wood that were scattered around in the shallow water. Thanks for the earth cache!

Very interesting location and we enjoyed the walk out to the point before an incoming storm had us bolting for cover! We’ve sent our answers to CO however we couldn’t get them all with the storm landing on us

Lake Tyrrell was a very cool place to explore. Ive been to the salt lakes in Bolivia and I've been to some in Adelaide but this was the first time I got to experience water actually being in it. The vista was not Pink but it was still quite impressive. It was really great the way they have set this up for tourist to enjoy. I went for a bit of a wonder and endeavour to come back to wonder further.

TFTC Thank you for creating this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity.

Stopped here with Coybear2000. We'd spent the night in Ouyen, and while waiting for our breakfast we saw a photographer's photo compendium of this lake, so we decided to make the detour here and do this cache. We had a pleasant time exploring this area and we hope to return one day and spend more time here. We were interested in the star gazing lounges. TFTC

I visited Lake Tyrell on the 27th of April. This was my first visit here. What an amazing place. I parked at the main carpark and walked to the viewing area. I had the area to myself and enjoyed the peace and beauty of the lake. TFTC!

Wow! This place was incredible today! We've visited other nearby pink lakes before, but never during summer months on a blue sky like today. What a difference it makes! We were absolutely blown away by this lake. Thoroughly enjoyed this earthcache, which to be honest gave us the inspiration to visit as we weren't planning on detouring off of the Silo Trail which we were doing. Glad we did!
TFTC and an easy FP!
Cheers,

I visited this earthcache on a trip from Adelaide to NSW and back with Freddo.

Our main target was ‘Frying Pan’ in the Chichester State Forest, near Barrington Tops north of Newcastle.

We allowed ourselves a week to travel there and back, taking a circuitous route through Victoria and NSW, camping each night and finding a range of caches of interest along the way.

Rains over the past few months meant a few detours along the way and plenty of water about, restricting access to some caches and camping areas. Many of the roads were quite chopped up with potholes and the mosquitoes were plentiful! But we had a good run with the weather, with just the odd shower, but mostly fine, warm and overcast.

A lovely day here today and some terrific new interpretive signs and infrastructure.

Thanks TeamThommo for another interesting earthcache.

03-Dec-22
Answers sent to cache owner and approved. Interesting location. NaCl

We headed into the flooded eastern states for a week of geocaching fun. The mission was Frying Pan. The only December 2000 placed cache remaining in Australia. All other choices for this month are international. Traveling in style and comfort we selected the next cache on merit and forward movement. Some back tracking was required in the wettest areas. Wildlife seen included a lyre bird, king parrot and a single leech. Mozzies were a pest. Caches were found and signed. Wet logs were wet. Water does that. Numerous TOTTs were employed.

Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun.

Thanks for the cache. Merci la cache. Danke für den Cache. Gracias por el caché. Bedankt voor de cache. Kiitos kätköstä. Zikomo posungira. Terima kasih untuk cache. Hvala cache. Köszönöm a cache. Nga mihi mo te keteroki. Dankie vir die kas.

Catching up with a missed log.

We are heading back from Swan Hill after doing the fireworks for the show there and with no real commitments today we decided to take a more scenic way home and grab a few caches.

We have visited Lake Tyreill on many occasions before and had enjoyed the area but our visit today because of this earth cache took us to areas that we hadn't seen before.
This is the first time that we have seen Lake Tyrell with this much water in it and it looked very impressive.
We collected our answers without getting too muddy and have sent them off to the CO and received prompt permission to log.

Many thanks Team Thommo for bringing us back to this location and also teaching us a bit more about this area, a favourite point from us.

Family was going to visit here a few weeks prior but decided it was too much of a detour so today we came by and with the lake dry was able to walk out a fair way to investigate the remains of the old processing here.

I had eyes on this spot since it came to my attention last year. When a plan was made to head towards NW Vic these holidays I knew I wanted to add this to our road trip locations.
We brought lunch with us and ate in the new shelter near to the viewing platform before walking around and exploring the location. I’d love to see this place with a bit more water next time. The salty lake was quite stunning today non the less and we enjoyed the walk around the area.

Collected the answers as we went and discovered a few more interesting details from the new signage as well. This place must be awesome at night!

A great place to explore.

Visited with friend from Norfolk Island who has volunteered to send the answers oin to you Thommo. I figured he could have a turn this time. We took some photos as we explored - uploaded one below. Endeavour3 to upload pics taken from his phone.

An interesting area for an earthcache.

A mega jaunt with endeavour3 saw us caching this cache and writing in the log, then we moved on. A lovely place to explore.

Thanks to TeamThommo and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet! [^]

Finally off on my 4 day weekend away to catch up with some fellow cachers and good friends around Wyperfeld National Park.
I headed up the Calder, turned west at Charlton and meandered around the back roads around a lake or two through a couple of country towns to get to my destination for the first night which is Lake Albacutya and to met up with the rest of the crazy gang to spend the weekend up around here.
The weather is not the best up this way but we can only hope the tracks will be fine to drive on.
So day 2 was spent around the tracks then back to Lake Albacutya for the night again.
Day 3 was spent driving up to Wyperfeld National Park along some more tracks then to Snowdrift campground.
Day 4 arrived and it was time to pack up say goodbye and head towards home.
I have called in to Lake Tyrell before and it is good to see that they have spent a lot of money around here with the new information shelter, toilets and then the boardwalk and sky lounge along further.
Worked out what was hopefully required, sent my findings off to the CO and I’m logging with permission.
A fav goes out to you for bringing me back here.

Thanks TeamThommo TFTEC

Day #8 of the Birthday Bush Bonanza. It’s a miserable day weather wise across Victoria so a great day for some driving. I packed up camp early and said goodbye to the others. Today is about ticking some LGA boxes and hopefully filling another Ausmer spot on my grid.

I had visited Lake Tyrell before but again it was prior to Geocaching, so I set off to collect the answers to add another earthcache to my low tally.

Thanks TeamThommo for bringing me to this wonderful spot and for contributing to the game.

Awesome location, definitely worth the trip!

02-Sep-21
This was such an unexpected gem to explore on our way home. The place was void of tourists and we had a lovely look around all the great information boards. After a very slippery, failed attempt at walking to the lake edge we drove further along the gravel road to what looked like another viewing area. We are glad we ventured further where we enjoyed looking around the new Sky lounge and boardwalk. A favourite point from us for bringing us to this very interesting tourist attraction.

23-Aug-21
Cold overcast with some rain but very interesting and some fantastic works being carried out.
Will come back in the warmer months for astro photography

16-Jul-21
We had such an awesome mini-break up in the Wimmera-Mallee. We stayed at the free camping area around Lake Lascelles in Hopetoun and the Silo Art trail was our main focus. I remember a seasonal cache out in the middle of this lake so I convinced the group that this would surely be an interesting detour. OMG, it was fascinating. Windy and cold but spectacular. The kids loved climbing the old salt piles, lounging on the Sky Lounge chairs, climbing all over the Lake Tyerell sign, sloshing through the ankle deep water, freaking out over the eerie red light in the public toilets, etc etc. And I managed the gather the info for this EC. Answers sent to the CO. We're coming back here in summer, at night, for sure!

The first cache in what was an amazing 4wd adventure. We were a few hours shy of an Instagramable Salt lake reflection photo but it's always worth turning off to see the lake in any condition. tftc

07-Jul-21
We had heard that Lake Tyrell was a fantastic place for reflective photography, and we were not disappointed today as the photos attached show it was a stunning day for it. We were fascinated by the geology of this area, and finding an Earthcache that assisted us in learning about it was a bonus. After driving for a couple of hours through the Mallee, finding an 'oasis' like this is a real treat. Thank you, TeamThommo, for bringing us to this place and for the time and effort put into creating this Earthcache.

What a brilliant and slightly bizarre location! We took some beautiful photos, but the hordes of tourists in such a far flung location was a sight to behold. Thanks for the Earthcache TeamThommo, we love your geocaches ️

A great place for an earth cache - TFTC

21-Apr-21
We were looking for somewhere to stop for the night as we make our way home. A quick look on the map showed us a lake with a little town nearby and we didn't really look into much more than that. So you can imagine how surprised we were when we arrived. We spent about 1.5 hours taking photos and waiting for the sun to go down, infact we got so carried away by the lake we forgot about this cache and had to come back the next day to do the E.C.

Have been out here once before, was great to swing by again, although seems sunrise or sunset are the best times. Collected answers, collected salt, and headed on my way. Thanks for the EC out here.

What a great place. The sky lounge looks amazing too and I would have loved to stay on to do some star gazing.

Thank you for a fun Earth Cache!

1. Groundwater, layer of brine on top.

2. Red algae.

3. There's not much gypsum in the water; we imagine that if more were present, it would make the water cloudy.

4. Quite white, pretty much ready for use as table salt (we tasted them).

5. Attached.

Well I’ve learned a lot more about salt lakes than I ever knew before.

Works have finished and WP2 is accessible now.

Had a great drive to the ‘sign’ and over a few sand hills on the way back to the highway today.

Such a big land mark that goes on for ever.

Thanks for the lesson.

14-Mar-21
So I was driving down this road, grabbing the caches on my downloaded list and I thought to myself, "Why is there such a big gap between caches"? Realising my preperation for this adventure had been slightly haphazard I switched to live map and BANG, new caches appeared. Some I had already passed, but also this one, a Team Thommo earthcache was coming up soon. Figuring out my mistake (I had downloaded caches in Mildura and Gannawarra shire, but forgot to add Buloke shire) I hastily turned in to do this one.

Having been born in the area and living my first 10 years at Wycheproof, I knew this area well. Learned somehting here too, which was nice.

TFTC, a beautiful spot.

A very special place. The light is fantastic at dusk, I recommend going out at this time of day. Not enough water for reflections, but just so ghostly in the last light of day. To get close to the lake, drive around to Saltworks Road while the building is being done at the viewing platform.

02-Nov-20
We checked out Lake Tyrrell , great info on the lake added to the scenery. Shame that it’s blocked off at the moment with the new works being done. Oh well we will just have to call in again next time we are going through

TFTC. We had spent the last few days in Mildura with the primary objective being to complete the PS series. Now we were on the way home to Maryborough, rather than go back the way we came and requiring an Earthcache we drove via Lake Tyrrell. Glad we did. There is a bit of work happening around the entrance . We found the information required and have received the ok from the CO.
We used to live in Altona close to the Cheetham properties in Laverton. Most of it is now part of a flash golf course and housing estate.

26-Sep-20
We met some friends to go on a silo expedition today with a few extra stops. This was our 4th stop and quick detour as we were excited to see this amazing lake. TFTC

25-Sep-20
By the time we arrived in Sea Lake, checked in and did come shopping the weather was lovely. So we headed out again to check out the silo art, Lake Tyrrell and a look around town. The road to the lookout is sealed and easy access, but beyond that the road was closed for what appears to be pretty major reconstruction. We were unable to answer all of the questions because of that construction. The view of the lookout is good though and we got a sense of the scale of this lake. Thanks for the cache TeamThommo.

03-Aug-20
Having just spent a fabulous couple of days in the Murray Sunset NP with The Tritonz and micaparamedic doing the new PS geoart series, we made our way back towards Mildura, supported local business where we safely could, and picked up a few more caches on our way home. Our friends recommended that we take the extra detour for to visit Lake Tyrell, and we are so glad we did. Great views from both sides of the lake. Thankyou for this earthcache TeamThommo.

I’ve wanted to visit here for ages and today was finally the day. However with the construction works happening at WP2 I was unable to actually get close. It looked stunning from the viewing platform but the photos don’t do it justice. Perhaps on another day I’ll be luckier. TFTC Team Thommo

Heading towards the Murray Sunset with Papi4506 and Geoturtle37 we stopped in at Lake Tyrrell for an exploration of this salt lake. We have seen many salt lakes in our time especially Lake Corangamite but we still find the salt landscape fascinating to witness.
Answers were gathered from waypoint 1 before making our way around the lake for a much closer look.
Thanks TeamThommo for another interesting earthcache.

*Cache find # 10324.*

Day 1.
I headed out on a road trip with biggles1024, our first destination being Mildura.
We had a few target caches and series to concentrate on, this being one of them.
As this is a TeamThommo cache, we had to stop for a look.
I have seen a few salt lakes now but this one is pretty big.
We gathered the info we needed, had a look around and then continued on our way.

**Thanks to TeamThommo for placing this cache.**

**Earth Find #39**

**Logged with Permission.**

SteMicMitSar and I headed to Mildura for the first day of our caching adventure to NW Victoria and South Australia. We had solved a number of puzzles in preparation for this trip but were also on the lookout for other caches of interest along the way. When I saw the CO's name, I had to come and do this EC. I didn't know this place existed and it is enormous.

After a week in Mildura with Suscoe, amongst an inland sea of amazing caches it's time to head home. Of course a 500km trip requires quite a number of stops to stretch the legs and take a few deep breaths of fresh air!!

Logged with a tick from the CO.

Our thanks 'TeamThommo' for the great effort of creating this Earthcache and encouraging us to learn more about the geology and history of places we visit.

Sorry for this late logging. I thought I had already done it until I was going through my photos. We visited Lake Tyrrell today with JooJoo57 and RichmondLad. JooJoo57 sent in our answers that we'd discussed and decided on and received approval for us to log this as a find. Thanks for bringing us here today. How great is it that they've built a viewing platform here for us and others who are interested to be able to see the lake more clearly. I was impressed by that.
I was also very excited to see a harvester working in the field beside the viewing platform. I don't believe I've ever seen one so close before and actually working away so efficiently. I took some video of that to show our grandchildren.
Thank you for what we have learned here today and for the lake and the harvester please accept a FAVOURITE point here.
Cheers and happy caching!

As we drove from Wedderburn to Mildura today, we stopped at Lake Tyrrell to collect information for this cache. We have visited the lake a couple of years ago and enjoy looking at the ever changing lake and learning about the geological processes occurring in the area. Answers to the questions have been forwarded to the CO. Thanks TeamThommo for an interesting earthcache.

Find # 8502
Found with Tyred n Cranky

After a long weekend of looking after bicycle riders, we finally had some time to ourselves.
So we were off this arvo on a "road trip" and headed up north to grab this Earthcache for the weekend and (a long way to go) for the souvenir.

Getting closer to GZ we realised that we had been here before. (after some checking) It was for Trad "GC23G5M - Lake Tyrell" we got it way back in November 2014.
Back then we were heading up to Mildura to participate in a bicycle event (a little ironic hay?).

With Geocaching I have visited a number of "Salt Lakes" but this one still has to be the biggest one that I have visited.

Find No. 2843 with FUF009

After a busy weekend we were able to find some time to be able to go for a drive to do an Earthcache to earn the souvenir. We realised we have been here before for another cache find but that was way back in 2014 - was it really that long ago, just seems like a couple of years back. Had a look around the area, worked out the answers to the questions then it was time to turn around and go back home. FUF009 has sent in our answers.

Stopped by here with the family as we tripped up to Mildura for a week on a houseboat. Funnily enough I’d stopped here and taken pics almost 3 years ago to do an EC but never got around to it so was happy to see (and complete) one as it’s a deserving area. We wandered down to the salt lake too and laughed at the numerous pairs of shoes and thongs which have been left in the lake! Many thanks for the great earthcache.

Passing through with feathertop and stopped to check out this attraction. In the process we took in the views and worked out the requirements for this EC.
Our answers were sent by feathertop for approval.
By completing this earthcache I learned quite a bit - thing thing in particular will stey with me for ever.
Thanks for highlighting this area TeamThommo

Well lake Tyrell has become a tourist destination and put sea lake on the map. Much has changed since I was last up here a decade ago. I learned a lot about the lake doing this virtual. Many thanks to team thommo. A fav point

Heading out of town, I noticed this earthcache with a familiar caching name on it. Hmm, an opportunity to take a photo of my hat again! I soon found some answers for the cache, and photographed my hat at location! Thanks for placing the cache TeamThommo, a great spot!

I was heading home from a few days in South Australia and had time to grab a few caches as I went and this earth cache was the last one attempted. Parked at the published coords and had a good look around the viewing platform admiring the lake. It is interesting that I grew up at the other end of the Tyrell Creek but had never stopped here to have a look at the lake itself. Gathered information here then drove as close as I could to wp2. The road is fairly ugly so started walking - getting the feeling of getting taller as I went with the very sticky mud gathering on my boots! Had a good look around then headed off - scraping off as much muds as I could. Note for future visitors - don't panic too much about the mud, it dried really quickly and my shoes were clear when I stopped for lunch a few hours later! Car needs a vacuum though. Answers have been sent via a message, thanks heaps to TeamThommo for placing this earth cache here.

Congratulations to juc_cacher on FTF.
We have omitted Q4 for the time being and added a warning about the road many thanks to juc_cacher for alerting us to the roads condition, amazing how it can change in such a short period of time.

Woohoo ! FTF...gotta love a FTF on an Earthcache. I noticed that this one had been published the day after we passed thru and stopped at the lake enroute to a short house sit at Mildura. I kept an eye out and was pleased to see FTF hadn't been claimed when we headed home today.

Since we approached from the Nth, WP2 was the logical first stop, but the closest and most logical access point ended with restricted access areas. However, from past visits, I knew there was another way a bit further south, so off we headed there and then started the 10km back-track to WP2. The HiLux and I enjoyed the drive and the occasional slippery bit. Mrs Juc, not so much Smile

But at WP2, the adventure/drama really started. I thought I'd send the drone up for a few cool snaps of the salt mining operations and the stockpiles. It was really too windy, but I sent it anyway..got the drone out over the lake, fired off some great photos and was preparing to bring it home into the teeth of the gale, when..beep..beep..beep... loss of picture and "Disconnected"...uh-oh....a few frantic moments trying to figure out what to do and imagining my poor little drone being blown out into the middle of the salt lake and plummeting to a certain doom. Thankfully, rebooting the controller seemed to work and it turned out the drone was on its way home anyway. I was pretty happy to grab it out of the air and put it away...won't be flying in that sort of wind again.

After that, the rest was simple Smile Back down the muddy track to WP1, grab the rest of the answers and listen to the mud flick off the tyres once we were back on the bitumen.

Thanks for this EC TeamThommo and the great adventure (and heart attack) gathering the answers. Definitely a fav !
