On a trail run through Kowen and picking up a few caches on the way! Such a beautiful spot and fun place to cache! Thank you!

Dropped my pen somewhere on the way to the first of the 'Poppets', so unfortunately having to photo log them.

I was amazed at the network of paths for hiking & biking. There must have been an event on as there were little arrows everywhere and the whole circuit had been swept!! Not a leaf or twig in sight!

Another gorgeous day in CBR, and so I pointed the eMTB interstate and enjoyed a 16km loop through the northern section of Kowen Forest. Lots of wallabies and roos around, and being a weekday, no trailbikes - although their tracks are everywhere.

Spectacular views and general all-round scenery from this group of caches, and a thoroughly enjoyable expedition.

This cache: A short ride along the timber-bordered tracks from Poppet Ponies. On the ride I passed a 'real' letterbox with the ubiquitous TE sticker on the back. What's this - another cache? No, it was a letterbox you mail letters to fairies. So that was good and somewhat unexpected (but quite some mail in there).

As always these weirs are quite weird, but great that there's a date visible in the concrete still and it is overall in good condition. Cache found quickly and in good condition.

Thanks, Tankengine!

A favourite here for the history of this cache specifically, and the enjoyment of today's ride more broadly.

#3636 Our final find on our way back down from Poppet. Starting from opposite ends DT made the find here. Thanks Tankengine for another Weird Weir. Interesting piece of CSIRO history. What were they up to?

A smaller crew this time, just Bark2e and myself returned to Kowen Forest to finish the rest of the non-roo caches and then take on 20 roo caches. It was another warm sunny day and we did quite a bit of walking today.

I was impressed to see the formal tracks in this area, that seems so remote. maybe there is a more standard way to get in then the one we used.

Thanks for the cache Tankengine

Weird Weir is quite a good name for this one in particular, as I did find it more weird than some others in the series! A very strange find and spot for a CSIRO testing site! Not much else left to see what they were up too!

A quick find here, there was a large puddle of water at one side of the weir but not much more, given the heavy rain about a week ago I doubt this weir ever does fill up...!

Thanks Tankengine

It was a great day for a walk. Not too hot, not too cold.

All the caches were found and it was nice ticking off a few more smilies in the area.

This cache: What a wonderous little spot to discover. Interesting to know all the facts as to why this was here and what they were studying. The cache was a straight forward find and all in good condition. Tftc Tankengine!!!

Headed off early in some fairly thick fog, soon cleared though and a lovely sunny day to be out walking the area. Border bash was the focus with poppet peak and its collection of near by caches also on the list, stopping at fire finder on the way back to the car.

Oh boy, was there a few hills to tackle, the ones that are steep enough to be slower down than up, but on the whole, mostly an enjoyable walk along the easy enough trails. Thanks for the caches TE, all caches found today were yours!

Quite a few people out walking in this area, not surprising as it is a nice and maintained area of trails and paths. Quieter here and then once found straight back up the hill and came across an interesting little letterbox on the path... just for the fun of being there.

Interesting place here. Set up by CSIRO in 1975 and still working. Obviously the experiment has moved on but the weir is still in place. Quick find and moving on. A stiff walk up the hill to get to the right path. TFTC Tankengine

After the final find of the Roo decided a quick hike through more smoke laden hills was appropriate. Parked just of the side of the nearby dirt access road and hiked directly through the scrub to GZ where a number a fucking huge flies were waiting for me. Fortunately they were not in the biting mood and it was a quick find sign and replace. Onwards up the hill. TNLNSL TFTC

The second day in Kowen, a much shorter but very enjoyable visit together, I cherished the time I had out and about with Dino today. We started off with caches at the northern end and continued onto the back of the roo.

This cache:
We made our way across to this one. Yes another weir indeed. Quick find and then found yet another of the mystical path to walk out of here.

Thank you Tankengine for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

Nice cache. Easy find.

Working of some of the kangaroo and the surrounding caches at the northern end today. Nice day with not many clouds. Perfect temperature. Quick walk over the hill to get to this one. Amazing the places where you find weirs. Great time finding the caches with Fred.

Thank you for the Cache Tankengine

Second day out and about in Kowen Forest saw fitzy_1965 and I targeting everything but the Roo.

I ended up with 18 Tankengine caches and we got two surprise FTF's. Was definitely a great day out.

We found the northern gate to make our way through the fence properly then weirdly found a cool path down to the weir. Thanks to the hint, we made a quick find then were off to the next Poppet cache.

19,379. Found with minniek during Day 2 of our meander around Kowen Forest.

While the 'cousins' were mostly hitting the Kowen Roo, we decided to take advantage of the forest access and concentrate on - mostly - the eastern side of the forest and clean out that area. We went through the Sparrow Hill Gate at about 11:30 and started on our list. This was the next find of the day. With time up our sleeve we decided to do the Poppets caches. We parked on the border track at the infamous northern gate and wandered down the hill to the Weir. A quick search and the cache was in hand. We signed the log, replaced the cache, then headed off to the next one.

Thanks Tankengine !! Without aiming for them I found 14 of your caches today (minniek 18) - awesome work Smile

Found with Darksidedan on our day of hiking today - beautiful day to do some of the Roo... thanks

A day of geocaching with Marmaduke Rothschild and contesta, primarily the SRPT series but also some nearby caches. My contribution on this road trip was to drive. But for 4 around here (including this one) we all enjoyed a short walk. And whoever would have thought that there was a weir up here? Because they interest me, a favourite, plus Tankengine caches are always beautifully presented and maintained. TFTC.

TFTC Smile out with Maramduke Rothschild and JohnnyboyACT, great day out for caching.

A days caching with JohnnyBoyACT and Contesta. The primary object was to do the SRPT series.
A few other nearby caches were also searched and found on the day.
Good to get out of the car and stretcth legs for a 3k round trip walk through some some nice forest. Surprised to see a weir here. TFTC.

Time for a couple of caches before orienteering at Mt Jerrabomberra. I continued on from Poppets Pig Pen. A quick find here. Now for a dash back to the car. TFTC.

This was a very nice bonus, a weir master 1975 model. Strangely my GPS is constantly 10m out in this neck of the woods, did someone turn on selectable availability again!
Anyway, spotted the likely spot and dived in for the weir master treasure, and it even rattled like a little chest.
I love the cross-sectional area for measuring flow. But where has all the water gone? Perhaps a CSIRO secret cover up

And geeezs Thankengine, are you really that bored lol (see photo)

May the 4th be with you as it was with us for this [FTF].

Out and about with friends who live behind Kowen Forest. Took the opportunity with these new caches just released to walk closeby. Lovely part of the forest. Perfect weather for a short brisk walk of approxmately two kilometres.

This cache was located next to an interesting weir structure. Certainly not the same kind that we have been encountering lately in the Brindabellas.. It's a lovely location that doesn't appear too dry however with the weir empty it says something about the current dry spell or does it even fill up anymore. From the direction and angle we came from the weir was not visible until we were very close. TFTC Tankengine.
