Our focus today was to continue on the Jericho-Blackall Power Trail, tackle the GCA "Thurd" series and to look at some letterboxes on the way back to Blackall. We had no idea how far we would get with our targets until the heat would get the better of us and we would have to suspend our cache hunt. However, starting at 6:30am, we managed to find 77 caches. We missed some GCA caches but found all the GC caches we sought. It was an interesting but challenging task but, overall, we were pleased with what we achieved. We saw more emu, including a number of young birds, four brolgas, 2 black eagles, a Sturt's Desert Rose and an exquisite miniature native orchid.Unless started otherwise, reasonably accurate coordinates and the hint (where provided) led to relatively short hunts. The cache and contents were in good condition, Thanks QOGM2019 Committee for all the work that went into this series. We leave Blackall tomorrow - so more finds on the Jericho-Blackall Power Trail are not likely in the near future.

We are back in Queensland to attend the last QOGM. Such a shame. There was no way that we were going to miss this. Unfortunately, we have only been to the first and last but very pleased we attended a couple of them.More of this series wasn't high on the agenda as there is so much to choose from but we decided to dedicate a couple of hours to get some more done.We were very surprised that we managed to finish the trail and redeem a couple of DNF's as well. Our logs are generic and for this we apologise. This does not in any way diminish our gratitude for the work, time and money that you have all put into placing and maintaining this series for all of us to enjoy. All logs are signed PDGC to save space.Thank you very much to all involved. Your effort is much appreciated.

We are now on our way to Longreach for the QOBM event next month. As we missed the big event here, it was now time to grab some of the caches around the area. Another big day today, doing some of the trails around the area. Today was big day on the road to Jericho. Lots of long grass and made more difficult doing it solo.

Stopped off here and made a quick find.

Thanks artesiancacher for placing this cache and doing the maintenance, so we can enjoy finding it.

Today is our final day on the JPT series starting out from our camping spot in Blackall.

The long log tongs we picked up in Wyandra a couple of years ago have come in very handy, we’re also wearing thick gaiters as there’s some awful prickles in some of the cache locations, a few had managed to creep into unwanted areas in our trusty cache clothes

Kudos to the placement crew and helpful cache teams assisting along the way with maintenance of the trails.

For anyone making Geo plans, do yourself a favour and visit Australia’s only current Geotour at Ballarat while it lasts: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/ballarat-victoria

And for anyone that can travel to Longreach, Queensland, late September 2023, Google “QOGM” which is the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster. You’ll have at least 8 or 9 days of pure geocaching fun with around 200 like minded people attending a mix of events and access to over 200 geocaches placed by the QOGM team. It’s not a Mega, it’s better.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 148. Blackall Day 3. I woke to rain pattering on the roof of the van, never a good sign. After a bit of a look at the rain radar, it seemed the rain band was narrow enough that 60kms up the Jericho road, there might be a chance for some caching, I headed off. When I drove the last 10kms it was certainly dry and only spitting a bit, but as soon as I stopped, the rain set in fully here as well. I persisted for a few caches but once I was really wet and surprisingly cold, I just gave up and came home and sat in the van for the rest of the day. Hopefully things will improve for tomorrow.

Thanks for the cache artesiancacher

Thanks for the fun find, we completed the entire series over 4 days with other diversions along the way!
Really appreciate the effort put in to this power trail.

*We replaced 5 broken containers and 16 wet logs but the series could do with a good refurbishment.
I think at least 60 caches still have wet / soaked logs, 30+ containers are broken (mostly due to UV making the plastic brittle) and about 90 more are not waterproof and have water in them. Almost all the push fit plumbing containers contained water. A section of the caches are gone due to road widening and realignment. In areas the grass / bush is well over a meter tall that you have to bash through.
Please do not take this as a negative log, we enjoyed it all and thank those involved for the efforts put into this series.*

Broken cache - I put the log into a fresh 400ml Sistema container.

We are currently staying in Blackall, camping in our caravan on the eve of the river, along with heaps of others taking advantage of the cheap rates. Well done to the council for setting up this area.
Today we have started our assault on this serious power trail. We found all of the hides we looked for. Most were where they should be, we returned a few we found laying in the open according to what he hint indicated. A few were wet, but the logs were signable.
What a mighty effort by the team to put out all of these. We really appreciate it. Thank you all

Day Two of our caching adventure in Blackall. Today we found caches along the Blackall Jericho Road.
Some thoughts:
* Pipes with push on lids are not waterproof.
* Push on lids are sometimes difficult to undo.
* Some pens don't write on plastic paper.
* Stamps don't always work on plastic paper either.

**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found most caches where our GPS said we should be looking, we did have to expand our search for some though.
**Cache Condition:** Most containers and logs were in good condition. Some were wet, with soaked logs.

Thanks for the hunt today,

Regards

Ian & Penny

07/01/21 After doing caching around Blackall yesterday decided to tackle the remaining caches on the powertrail. Completed all active caches to #166 to end (426). Some caches have been listed by me as require archive as they are widening the road and these caches were in the section of trees that have been removed. Roadtrip Mackay to Emerald to Barcaldine to Aramac to Blackall to Jericho over the these 3 weeks. Lots of puzzle solving before and during trip. Thanks to all for creating this trail of caches for our enjoyment. SL logs where required. All caches discovered were in okay condition unless I mention below and even with all the rain the dirt road was accessible.

We headed off to Blackall from Jericho. Last night a good lot of rain fell so we found ouselves jumpting puddles to get to some of the caches. We had the caravan with us and we gradually made our way along this muddy red road to Blackall. We enjoyed the bush hides and the variety of hiding spots and containers. Our thanks to artesiancacher for placing this cache and enhancing our enjoyment of the area.

WOW! What an awesome day!

Plans were set to me up with Willis007 to try and smash out the power trail of 420 plus caches of Blackall to Jericho. We meet at 5.30 am and with a quick rap of “morning, how you doing?” and a recap of what we were in for, we started. Spirits were high and I don’t think either of us knew what exactly we were in for.
It was run from one cache to the next and a search for some. Some searches took way longer than we banked on and then some caches were park and grabs. By 10 o’clock we were on target to finish with sunlight. Then I lost the trail map and had to head back to get reception to bring up a new run. Then Willis007 lost her run map and she had to scoot ahead to get reception.

There were a procession dirt trucks and work trucks going past all day, eventually around 5.45 one truck stopped and asked what are you doing? lol. Logging was fun, a few common names appeared on the logs, some seem to begin and then end, some seemed a little sporadic. It was funny to see names appear in full and over time they sort of got shortened and shortened and then it was just initials.

It was a fantastic day, great fun and great company and always a laugh to be had. But I am so glad it is over, never again, I am absolutely beat and by the three quarter mark I just wanted the insaneness to end. Then all of a sudden we had 50 caches to go, with a second wind we were off but now with head torches on as we were searching in the dark, we finally finished at 7.30pm, yep almost 14 hours of caching. no, never again, Thank you so much to the people who set this up and who maintain it, there are some great series’ of caches along the way; the runs of pvc piping, the runs of bisons, the run of tree preforms, and so on, was great, did I mention never again lol.

Wow, what a day! Met up with CHAMAD at 5.30am to kick off what was a fantastic caching day. Starting at the Blackall end, it wasn’t long before we got into our groove and had quickly made some real progress. A lot of running (which did slow down by the end of the day), laughter and cache finding happened over the next 14 hours!

Most of the caches were quite easy to find, I loved the variety of camos and hide types, although I did not want to search near another log by the end of the day Wink We had some challenges with phone signal at times which saw some backtracking to pick it up again. I need to teach myself about offline lists and not try to set them up 10 minutes before heading out

With only a handful of DNFs, we completed the trail around 7.30pm, searching for the last 20-25 caches in the dark.

Thank you so much to all involved in creating and maintaining this massive trail. This is one of those days I will remember for a long time!

A bit of dirty driving today and, naturally, I got dirty Roughly 52 finds including a fun puzzle series and Earthcache. Fell 19 short of the target after rolling in the sand, as you do, and deciding it was time to quit Replaced a couple of mushy logs and banged my head against a tree Surprisingly, made it back to Tambo in time for o’clock. Not so **rusty** after all. What fun

Down from Townsville to boost my numbers and explore outback QLD during the school holidays.

After collecting the Emerald GeoArt this morning Karicka and I set our sights on knocking off a few of the powertrail.

As Karicka had already found 1-165 we started on 166 around 4:45pm and called it a night at 9:15pm at number 325 leaving 100 for tomorrow.

We enjoyed the series. Great sized containers, good DT and variety all at excellent coordinates. Good exercise too with Karicka running the first 80 and me the next 79.

Signed most logbooks B + K 4/7 in red ink. Some of the log books were damp but this did not detract from the enjoyment.

Thanks artesiancacher for placing these for us to enjoy. We look forward to collecting the rest and I’ll be back in the future to get the other 165 when the OGM is on.

After being inspired this morning by caching with Wazza9 and Nana Nel we decided to go out and beat our PB of 60 that we set on Thursday!!! Sorry for the Generic log, I had 131 finds today.

Today was a big day caching with Coongoola ( who we met along the way ) and Nana nel south of Blackall.

The puzzles I completed were a team effort by myself, Nana nel and Everlasting who came on board due to problems I was having and at the request of Nana nel. She showed me so much.

Another wonderful day at QOGM that started beside the river and was followed by the most scrumptious breakfast that I can remember ever having. A huge thanks and congratulations to the cooks - it was certainly scrumptious.
In no time at all Pa and I hit the road. Aim? Complete the JBT. A rather ambitious plan indeed. By about 4pm I realised this was never going to happen so I mentally revised my plan - 200 caches. By 5pm I realised that was not going to happen either so I managed to push on to 195. My best day ever and a big thanks to Pa for his cooperation and help - I would never have made it if I had to navigate, research and drive as well. And thanks for the times you did get out and do the collecting - you were a true champion today muggle husband.
Thanks also to all the COs. Without you there would be no PT. There was a very wide assortment of containers, sizes and types of hides. A large majority of the coordinates were good and all caches attempted were found, signed and returned to their hidey holes.

Sitting at my computer during these Covid lockdowns, I am trying to catch up on a few logs that I haven't sent in yet.

Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.

Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.

Sorry for the late log, something I am notorious for. Thank you for adding to the adventure that is geocaching.

Thanks artesiancacher (F=178 H=549) for the cache.

This is our second outback geo muster so we had already enjoyed completing the first part of this trail last year so we didn't have as many to do as the cachers who were here for the first time.
We joined forces with maccamob and a plan was hatched to target these caches today

Micaparamedic and au_fait also had some to finish so we got off to an early start this morning.
We headed out to the furtherest point that we hadn't completed so as if we didn't finish we didn't have as far to drive tomorrow. with really good co-ords and six pairs of eyes only a couple of hides gave us problems and we were really happy to be able to finish it in a day without any Dnf's

To save room in the logs we signed as CAMM

Thanks QOGM2019 Committee for the time and effort put into placing these caches for us to find.

Set off at 7.00am destined for #166 along the power trail to Jericho, this was to be our starting point and we planned to work our way back to Blackall. The teams of Coongoola, DiMorgan, and Snakepiters used the signature of DISC for all log sheets along the trail.

All of the caches were found in good condition and with excellent coords and they were mostly easy finds along the quiet road.

We ended up with 269 finds and were back in camp by 2.00pm so about five hours of caching all up not including our rest stops for smoko and lunch.

Thanks for placing this cache artesiancacher, we thoroughly enjoyed the trail.

Today was the designated JPT day. Started early 7am decided that we would drive to the end of the previous trail and work our way back to Blackall. Out with Di Morgan, Coongoola and signed the logs DISC. GREAT second half of the JPT trail and fortunate not too much dirt road to traverse. Passed 100 finds and Bill needed a brew break, so we stopped for a well earned thirst quencher. Started again and got through to just before 12 and had lunch, knowing that there was not many left to do. Started again and got to the end without any problems, Footnote' Half the team needed a PAF from the other half to find a cache'. All done and dusted showered and relaxed before attempting the logging. Great series all in good condition. Gave a few favourite points along the way.

*Catching up on a significant logging backlog.
Better late than never I suppose. ??
I'm logging each cache on the date that I actually visited it, not the date I'm logging it on.

In Blackall for the QOGM2019 events.
Camped a bit further along the road to get an early start on this trail. Did pretty well today, smashing out 167 caches on my own so pleased with that. Found most caches easily and only a few extra minutes to find the rest. I did get a fright at one cache though, I nearly put my hand on a baby snake.???? Luckily it got a fright too and disappeared! It was stout leather gloves and the long BBQ tongs after that!????
All caches and logs in good condition.

We are camped up at Jericho waiting until it is time to go to Blackall for this year's QOGM. Today we did 206 TO 426 on the trail with HansandLinda
Two caches were missing, one appeared to be burnt the other justing missing , these were replaced and the committee notified of our actions, all other caches that were attempted were found, none of them being particular tricky as the co-ords are spot on. We discovered a few TB's swag and pathtags were left.. We were very happy with the variety of cache containers and the many different hides. Very little traffic on the road today to disturb us, a few kangaroo's, no lizards , and a few birds. Our car has, again, changed colour. We did not pay for one of those expensive paint jobs where your car changes colour depending on light and angle, but we are geocachers and we go where the caches are.
What a top day we had with HansandLinda, thankyou for the company.

TFTC. We are camped at Jericho with good friends muff1. We had signed a challenge cache in Victoria that required us to have two days with 150 finds or more. We had discussed this and muff1 agreed to wait for us to arrive and we would tackle the balance of the JPT from number 206 to the end plus the puzzle caches along Neverfail Road. A big day. We started around 8 am and finished the last cache close to 5.30. A great day of caching. Doing it with friends make the day fly by. All co-ordinates were good.

While staying at Jericho we tackled the JPT series, with an early start we worked our way south from our last find from last year.

We were impressed with the quality of the containers and the variety of hides

We would like to thank the QOGM 2019 Committee for placing and maintaining these caches for our enjoyment.

Stopped in Jericho for a few days, today we headed out to tackle the southern end of the caches on the Jericho - Blackall road. (see another 30 just got published Surprised )

Good day with 172 Smile and only 1 Sad All up we were lucky enough to collect 23 FTF's. Our first find of the day was at 10.55am and the last find of the day was at 5.45pm. The drive back to the caravan was made on dusk with lots of cattle and roos out and about. Home safe in time for dinner.

My last opportunity to go caching before I head back to school. Tftc

Now that the first to find has been claimed on this one I can post my log. The extension of the power trail from 165 to 400 and beyond has been an exhausting process for the CO as well as two particular members of the QOGM 2019 Committee, of which I was one. It was well worth the time and in places dust. We have learnt from our experience on the first 165 and no cable ties on this extension and thus hopefully less maintenance runs
