30-Sep-24
Today was the day I was aiming to achieve three things 1000 caches in 2024, 7000 caches all up and 200 caches in a day (my previous record was 121). Easily achieved all three in 13 hours between 06:00 and 19:00. Was a glorious spring day on the back roads around Yass. Most logs signed TE5 30/9 to save time.I hit my 4000th traditional cache yesterday but this was my first fit the day (about 40 in). A quick find here at a quiet junction.TFTC Pacmania

12-Apr-24
Found at end of our gathering today as we are losing light. We hatched a plan to make a visit to Yass a couple of months ago. as The Roos (bdp, kiwisteve2, no1gardengirl, drobbonz and kimmy533) from Ryde Orange and Salem Oregon.Headed out from our pub in Yass early this morning and aimed ourselves at all these caches and adventure labs. Clearing a lot of the town caches, then we headed for another trail of challenge caches intermixed with whereigos. The road got a little wet and a number of creek crossings were required. Lots of fun and laughter. Thanks to all the COs for all the hard work put into the placement, write ups and maintenence.Apologies for the cut and paste logs but 70 plus caches each day gets brutal.Unless noted, all caches were in good order.Tftc

Tftc another great day of caching around Yass

Full time Nomads, travelling around Australia since 2014. Staying a week or so in Yass, today we headed out mid morning. Fantastic weather today. We loved seeing Burrinjuck Dam, we even had a picnic lunch there. To get there we had to move through a herd of cows being moved along the road.Red Face A tribe of goats jumped across in front of us, then a lyrebird crossed the road in front of us too.SurprisedThere were quite a few caches we did not attempt today, if it was a challenge that we don't qualify for we did not stop to sign the log, and there were a few high terrain caches that we were unable to attempt. All in all a successful day out, with only 2 DNF Big Grin We did replace 2 broken containers along the way.TFTC Pacmania Cool

In the area with woolwood9 today. Wasn't really expecting much rain as the area looked really dry - sure the farmers were pleased to get it.However for us it caused a lot of frustration with rain off and on for the next 4 days.*We managed to get the container found here!* SL *tm/ww NZ*

Exciting times over the next couple of weeks as we takeoff for the Capital GeoBash in Canberra! Its going to be a flood of Sandgropers over east, with a host of West Aussies making the trek east for the event. Im travelling with fellow Cockburn Crew members Leg5 and Barnzy12, starting in Sydney and hitting the road to Canberra, before returning back to Sydney. Honourary mention to our fellow member, Cravo10, who couldnt make it after recently introducing a new geocacher to the world the week prior. Once in Canberra, the agenda is set, well team up with a host of Western Australians to conquer caches. Collectively, were hoping to make it the biggest ever weekend for cache finding. Following the event, the journey continues back to Sydney, with a mission to clean up caches and new Local Government Areas (LGAs), ensuring no cache is left unturned in this epic geocaching adventure. Something tells me that well need a holiday after this, well, holiday. We have commenced our raid on Yass. All logs have been signed as WA to save space, abbreviation for our team of cachers from Western Australia, who are cleaning up the series together. Cheers Pacmania! The Cockburn Crew are on tour at the Capital Geobash in Canberra - travelling from Perth to Sydney, Canberra, Sydney and finally back to Perth.Today was day 3 and we had an absolute blast, after an earlier night last night we got up early to head to Yass and the surrounding areas to cleanup a bunch of caches inparticular whereigos and our personal favourite the challenge caches. We stopped in Yass and completed some high quality caches before venturing back to the trails. We completed a huge number of trails, challenges, whereigos, traditional, multis, earthcaches, labs, virtuals and puzzles. It really was a great day for variety. We enjoyed caching in territory we havent been before. Weve filled our boots with some rare DTs and DTTs and generally had a great time. Thanks to the COs for a great day and event. Logs signed as part of team WA/WAC (WA Crew)

29-Mar-24
What a huge day was planned for today. I hooked up with Bluewattle to drive to Yass and around the areas to collect letterboxes and challenge caches. This was just before we were to meet up with Ardom to continue our caching travels for the day.First off was the letterboxes of the area (sausages) and a drive around a farm property collecting a few more which was super fun. It was then back on the road to our meeting point for a tree climb and meet up. the tree climb was a tuff one for me.We then worked out where we were going and how we would get all these in a day. It was an awesome day and I was super surprised at how fast we were going along. I guess it helps when the caches are there and in good condition. It was a super day and the CO's should be super happy with their caches in this area. Thanks for the fun we had today. All logs were signed and caches replaced as found.

Reperio 10:38This was Day 3 of our camping getaway to Yass to go in search for some of the local geocaches, and things got off to a very early start being woken up by some extra enthusiastic 4WDers, so we decided to leave where we were and resume where we left off yesterday. With approximately 150 caches found today, we had an awesome day with only about 10 DNFs, and managed to either replace broken containers or do some log maintenance along the way. Managed to pick up a few of the Great Southern Road caches having spent a number of years bypassing this route.Gratias PacmaniaAs a well spent day brings happy sleep, a well spent life brings happy death - LDV

Cache found and log signed with dalerious Razz. This was a nice detour on our way to Yass. Rain and wind was a bit trying, but that didn't stop us from finding our prize. This cache was chosen as it was on the way to a line of Letterbox caches, and it is such a lovely drive Big Grin.Thank you Pacmania for your contribution to the game Smile. We came Canberra with an immense and impressive list of caches. There was a huge variety and types, covering Yass and Goulburn as well Cool. The priority for us this trip, was to sign as many Challenge caches as we could. There were many we had to hike for Big Grin. There were a few that were not found which was disappointing, but plenty that were found and signed. Some beautiful country was covered by foot and vehicle, and we had a ball.I will be using this generic log for all of the caches, but I will mention if there was an issue with the hide, container or log where possible Big Grin. Please accept my humble thanks for all CO's effort on placing out these awesome caches Big Grin.

With FFLL#2 heading off for a hike today, FFLL#1 and I decided to go get some challenges and some cruiser stuff. We wanted a nice easy day today with the expected heat so we chose a couple small trails to do and just took our time wandering the back roads. We had a good day today, unfortunately a lot of the caches we found today are in desperate need of CO attention as heaps were complete mush and covered in black mould. We had a successful day all in all, we did replace one cache with the CO's permission after an extensive search resulted in no find and there were prior DNF's. We also placed a few temp small logs until the CO can replace the containers and logs.

Thanks for the fun day out FFLL#1, love the mini adventures we go on Big Grin and thanks to the CO's for the cache placements for us to find.

20-Jan-23
Today the goal was 4 main caches, only accessible by a boat or kayak, and a few others with dotted the burrinjuck shoreline. Caveisland, the magazine, magnificent Murrumbidgee and dam inlet, if we had the endurance to venture that far. Unfortunately with the day planned and prepped , we arrived at a extremely windy burrinjuck, certainly not wise in these choppy waters to venture out in the kayak. It’s easy for the motorised boats zooming past but heading many kms in a south, south east direction kayaking straight into the wind would be tough. I was with youngster ono9 who was keen as mustard, so we headed out to the awesome foursome (caches).
The day ended up being as tough as nails, doing under 20km kayaking (mainly) and some tough walking and a unplanned capsize.
Quick find on the way to burrinjuck. Tftc

02-Jan-23
An early 5.45am start for an 8.00am rendezvous at the Burrinjuck Dam boat ramp for a day's caching in and around Burrinjuck. Arrived right on time, a little trouble making way through the boomgate, but all good in the end. Unpacked our yaks, a most convenient parking spot right at the water's edge. Interesting to see how SA and SC's portables would go, damfangled origami. Most presently surprised in the end how well they actually performed.

Paddling in perfect conditions across to Cave Island, the hardest thing was making land. 'Caveisland Cache' (GCA2QAD) quickly found and signed, and after a little exploration we continued onwards across the way to our next destination.

A number of motor boars/skiers zooming about now, but super impressed with their behaviour and willingness to give us a wiiiiiiiiide birth.

Made good time, the sun warming up the day, and the pleasant conversation continuing. Before we knew it we reached the dam edge and were climbing up the short rocky slope. Quickly found the right area and 'The Magazine' (GCA2MJN), the log also promptly signed and replaced. Investigated within the man made cave, almost dying of indigestion. Damn delicious peanut butter sandwich, ate it way too quickly.

Back into the yaks and the 2.5km or so paddle back to our starting point. Took about 2 hours return for the journey, a fantastic trip with good friends. Once back we packed up our gear and made plans to continue on to the remainder of caches in the area. Paid our entry fees for the day ($15.00) off we went.

Skirted the dam edge, picking up caches here and there. None presented any issues, the scenery colourful with blooming trees, bushes and algae. One cache was discovered on private land, a quick, pleasant chat with the land owner had us remove the cache at their request. Once we had reached the dam gates, unfortunately you could go no further, a real shame as the views would have been awesome.

Goodbyes were now offered as the return trip was to be taken individually, a good number of challenge caches no doubt the task ahead (it was for me), mixed in with a few others types inbetween. Continued back to the highway, a quick detour on the way. A disappointment at 'Challenge Cache Series - Elevation' (GC8ZQDE), not for the first time, my TOTT just not high enough. Hopefully one day third time lucky.

One or two more on an extremely busy end of holiday highway before Yass, the final cache 'AHH #9' (GC9Z94N) interrupted with a quick sighting of a healthy back snake just inside the long grass edge. It bolted off somewhere and I moved on another 25 metres or so, before then continuing into the long grass. No more reptile interactions were had, and the cache was eventually found 16 metres out.

Back home around 5.30pm, unloaded the gear and had a well deserved icy cold beer!

A fantastic day overall, most enjoyed my first time to Burrinjuck. Thanks of course to mountainsbeyond, StarsAlign and SocialCacher for making the day the day it was.

03-Nov-22
A big cache day after all the flooding and wind storms. Managed to get to the end of Black Range Road where the creek was still flooded and then backtracked all the way around to finally get to Lake Burrinjuck. I found all but two caches which were too high for my TOTT.
There is still lots of water, long grass, fallen trees, eroded roads and many other obstacles. My poor ladder had a big workout and so did I. I was a great day. TFTCs. Most appreciated.

30-Oct-22
Thanks for this one Pacmania.
Whilst travelling this road on our way to Yass, doing some of the challenge caches along the way, feathertop and I stopped here to decide which way to go, and discovered this traditional cache in the process.

30-Oct-22
Cybergran and i came up this way to base ourselves in Yass for a few days and try our luck on the great collection of local caches.
We began our quest down Burunjuck Rd and ended up with 22 out of 23 challenge caches found. Also an odd trad cache as well
The road was badly potholed, a few snakes out and about but sadly the majority of your caches were full of water with often sodden logs. Lots of long long green grass made searching challenging too.
A nice easy one here at the intersection.
Thanks Pacmania

Off for a couple of days caching with BettyBoo3747 and the geo-doggies.
Out through Gundagai and onto Jugiong.
A lovely sunny day today but we could see where there had been heaps of rain in the area.
This meant that a lot of the caches were full of water and could do with some TLC.

Does not look like a very high point, but very interesting history of the Railway.
Thanks, Robmc.

21-Aug-22
#19554. Robmc and I decided to have a couple of days away and we decided the Jugiong area might be the place to go. Unfortunately with so much rain in the area recently it meant that both the land and nearly all of the caches were wet and in need of maintenance checkups.

This container was full of tiny scraps of paper. placed over time. Might need a check up at some stage. Interesting to hear about this railway line that came and went after serving its useful purpose.

Thanks Pacmania

15-Jun-22
You could never tell there has been a railway ear here! Thank you for the information and heads up. Saw the loco and carriages at the Lake though.

Our last day in Yass before moving on so we will be leaving plenty of unfound caches for future visits.
We decided to head down the trail to Lake Burrinjuck, where there are lots of Challenge caches, Birds of Australia, Flags of the World and Frogs of the World mixed in with a few traditionals and a multi.
As usual, we had to bypass a few high Ts which were beyond our capabilities even though in most occasions we could see them! We can see the smile on Sui's face now!
Lake Burrinjuck was a pleasant surprise so we spent some time exploring.
As we log we will find out what Challenges we qualify for, hopefully most and the rest in the future.

Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache Pacmania.

After a roadside camp not far from Temora, I took a winding route back home to pick up some more caches out this way, and then some of the new animals between Binalong and Yass. I even took a bit of time to do some of the Gold Challenges down Burrenjuck road.

Thanks for the cache Pacmania

Interesting story about the railway.

Decided to do a run out past Yass to collect some challenge caches on a horrible day. A couple of DNF's, a lot of waterlogged caches/logs and a few dodgy parks. Got to use a fast charger for the first time on the way back, so that was exciting.

Nice change from the waterlogged cheap containers Smile

#12406 - 10:04:00 AM; Out for a caching run on the other side of Yass with Sol de lune and Smittengranny to collect as many challenge caches as we could as well as some wherigos and a trad or three. Logs we signed with our initials (i.e. a combination of LL, Sdl & SG). Only the one DNF, but we did leave some of the higher terrain caches for another day when we are better equipped with the appropriate ToTT! No problems with this one and we were soon on our way again. TFTC Pacmania Smile

Decided to give myself a mental health day and head out with SpecimenX to grab a few caches west of Yass, the challenge series being the main target. I qualify for all of them so a logical choice, SpecimenX qualifies for nearly all as well. Unless otherwise indicated, caches found easily and in accordance with any hints provided. Of course, we are not adverse to picking up other caches along the way…!

This cache: quick find, damp short walk to GZ!

Thanks Pacmania for the cache and the fun!

Today’s adventures out and about picking up some caches around Bookham and surrounds with Marmaduke Rothschild. An epic day planned before our starts to shrink once again with lockdowns closing in around us.

And before the next lot of rain hits us. With winter nearly over I’m sure looking forward to spring and longer days of warmth and sunshine ️.

All logs in good condition unless otherwise noted.

Thanks to COs for placing and maintaining these caches.

Fortunately the work crew stationed at this intersection for my trip towards the dam had left by the time I was making the return. Thanks Pacmania.

A long day of caching in and around Yass. Cache challenge as main goal, but also the newer caches in town after clearing the area a few years ago.

There was so much we had on today, but the allure of a few ftfs and the chance to pick up a few caches to add to our souvenir total before other commitments was a pretty good reason to get up and out early this morning.

The morning was bright and sunny and although a chill was in the air, it wasn’t long before the sun warmed us up.

This cache: A quick find along the way. Tftc Pacmania!!!

I've always liked challenge caches, its good to have something to work towards and a direction in this caching game of ours. So with dty73 and Tankengine we set of early one morning for a short trail of challenges, with the bonus of perhaps a few new ones as well. Just a short outing as family commitments had us wanting to be home before lunch but a lovely relaxed morning in the very scenic countryside of this area. Thanks for the cache Pacmania!

If not for the crows this would be a peaceful place, noisy things they are. Lovely this morning out here though.

We decided that today we would try and get some of the many challenge caches scattered around the area and that we would stop caching at about 6. As it is just after 6, this is the last cache for us for the day. Grateful that it was nice and quick as it has been a long day. Thanks for the cache.

TFTC,
A generic log today. We planned on visiting the area to do the WhereIGo caches some time ago but other activities got in the way. Then we saw all the Challenge caches that were published last week and since we had a free day, came down and had a go at them.
We have also been wondering when to do GC8NEAT and found ourselves picking up rubish as we went along so our 8 hour caching day with 90 finds was also used as a special CITO.

Having to do a pick up in Temora to deliver to Canberra we thought that we would make the most of it and grab a few easy caches along the way as well as the Adventure Lab here.

What an interesting cache, we enjoyed the history here and trying to imagine what a 2' railway line would look like. It must have worked well to have been in service until the dam was completed. Where we picked up the equipment there was a working pump that used to be used to fill the tanks for the old steam trains so this was double interesting for us.
Many thanks Pacmania for the cache hide and the info.
