Hi The Hancock Clan. Today I found your cache Roseneath "It's a Mystery". Continuing my quest to complete my find calendar five times over, this cache has contributed to that self imposed challenge. Thanks for hiding the cache for me to find today. Finding this cache takes my GC finds to 5000 and I found it at 18:05 on Thursday 4 Jul 2024FTF: NoMates: he was laughing Muggles: noneMy EPE: 5mCondition: goodWeather: dark and coldAND #5000!!!My favorites:Creative - Back to the future 1 by peaches (GCA5JYD)Hardest - Men in Black Holes by SG-3 (Archived)Most visited - Dragons Lair by Shagzter (GC2E33)
Thanks The Hancock Clan for hiding this cache. Now that my calendar and streak are completed, I can just cache for the fun of it. Your Mystery cache, Roseneath "It's a Mystery", was just what I needed to get me out of the house and exercising. This is my find #1816 at 06:33 on 4/7/2024. At the recent CITO event I was casting around for ideas on how to approach this puzzle. I already knew about Thomas, but was stuck there. A fellow cacher gave me a glimpse at a snippet of method and I filed that away. The following Monday I was at work early and decided that I would have a look at the puzzle again. The tools I was made aware of did not perform for me, but I knew another way to get the same information. Then the penny dropped and the puzzle was quickly solved, to the satisfaction of both the checker and myself. This morning I had reason to be in the neighbourhood and I made the quick find by torchlight. Thanks for both a wonderful puzzle and a well engineered hide. Heavens above, I can't solve that.
After 3½ years I eventually sought out a PAF - actually, an AAF, as he was sitting in my car at the time, and some valuable intel was furnished. Ah! Easy when you know how - of course! Not!
Anyway, eventually got there in the end.
After Kingston parkrun (walk ), South Hobart op shop, then New Norfolk for the Market, an Ad Lab and Willow Court cache, we drove to nearby GZ. After a short walk and an even shorter search, I was soon signing the log.
I like the hide, not so much the puzzle though.
Thanks The Hancock Clan, for the cache and the adventure.
Cheers, EPs.

The coordinates were worked out during a group puzzle solving session about 18 months ago but today was the first occasion that I remembered to make the attempt at the find. Fortunately the cache was an exceptionally quick find as it had started to rain as I left the car in the car park. Cache and contents were in good condition.
Hi The Hancock Clan, thank you for this very hard puzzle, while I ended up with the coordinates through a bit of help from here and there, it would be still unsolved if I was left to my own devices. I have been at the Cottage about four times without coordinates to see if I could do an ausandaus2. Using AlbyDangles log I headed to the train tracks twice well there's wood there. Next time here I checked the wood fence around Austin's cottage. I also found a path up to the railway line with lots of wood around. Turns out one of those was reasonably close but don't get excited as I would never have found it without the coords. As you can see I was desperate to find the camo hide having found all the others in the series pretty quickly. This morning I wandered along to GZ and despite the fact it hadn't been found for six months I was able to extract with ease and sign the dry log which was safely tucked away in its excellent camo cache. The dog on the hill announced my presence but no muggles on the jetty and quiet in the Car Park. Thanks for hopefully teaching me that mysteries do indeed need to be solved and I hope you have taught me a couple of things which will be useful in solving moving forward.
Lucky (or not?) that I was sitting in lockdown with two Queensland puzzling brains that have solved this puzzle!
Found this one today on our way past.

Had time for some teamwork on this cache during lockdown.
Picking our way forward we had the final ready for a morning drive today.
Took us a little while at GZ
Good puzzle that sent us down a few rabbit holes

This was a good puzzle to solve during lockdown. I enjoyed the final too. Thanks for the cache
Hurrah Hancock Clan, It's a Mystery that we persevered with this puzzle ! And I have to say without the assistance of some very long standing and dedicated cachers from the north west, we would never have been able to crack this one. We are now much wiser in the ways of extracting information from the many and varied places where clues can be hidden.
Our reward was finding the prize exactly where it should be, in excellent and dry condition ....... and very sneaky to boot ! Tftc and take a favourite for your efforts all round.

Today we decided to trek into Hobart and surrounds and find a few more caches that we have not found and to make them a smilie. A very cold, windy and a tad wet but braved the coooooooold weather and rugged up for the occacion.
Having solved this earlier we made a quick find at GZ
An excellent cache hide, cache and contents were in good condition and adding to our favourites.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

I remember being alerted to this puzzle by the Yellow One and thanks to having done some the CO’s other puzzles got through it quicker than puzzle master. Nicely constructed and a good history lesson.
Finally back in the State and heading south so this was on my list. Spotted something at GZ and made a quick find if a well camoed hide which based on what it was covered on appeared to have not been found for a while which the log book would agree with.
Signing duties completed and re hidden.

Solved a while back. Got the clue but went down a hole thinking there was something more complicated than there was. Turned out i just needed to follow my nose.

out and about and on the way to the snake just before Orford, doing 26 or so to finish of the snake for US. but this was an epic mystery, having got small hints from fellow catchers, Thank You for your help, the software would not work on our computers so we had to download others that worked, when we got the proper file we worked through the puzzle and got GZ for ourselves. so a little help for all the red herrings was good but we got there in the end. TFTM TNLN log dry a great container at GZ.
Thanks for this puzzle cache The Hancock Clan.
RLD4963 and I have been stumped by this one since it has been published. I was able to make a little bit of headway and found a little bit of information, but I still had a lot more to find.
Eventually I requested a nudge from a previous finder a few weeks ago, and RLD4963 and I have been mulling over it since with no success. Turns out some software just won't work on my laptop, so I was never going to be able to solve it with the technology available in my house. RLD4963 ended up nutting it out last night and we were able to make our way to GZ today where the cache was found.
Glad to add our names to the log for this one finally. We both learnt a few new techniques along the way, but we wouldn't have got there without help from our fellow cachers.
Thanks again for creating this series of caches about the history of the area. A favourite from me.

I'm an idiot. Spent an hour looking for an actual cache, then logged a dnf. My husband just pointed out the error of my ways.
We have looked at this puzzle intermittently since it was published. We found a number of things of interest but no matter how we tried, we could not convert any of those things into a possible method for solving the puzzle. We put the puzzle aside for a few months and then came back to it. Still the same problem - quite a deal of interesting information but it did not lead anywhere. We contacted another cacher, told them what we had done and found that we had found numerous red herrings which, of course, went nowhere. We were pointed in a particular direction and that led us to finding our way through the various layers of a well constructed puzzle. We then had the information needed to calculate the coordinates and we were pleased (relieved?) when our solution was confirmed. Today we went to look for the cache. "Spot on" coordinates and something a little different led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks the Hancock Clan for an interesting subject, a very well constructed puzzle and for the cache. It earns a favourite from us.

Wazza9 and I have been working on this one for a while, knowing we were coming to Tasmania. It was solved, just waiting for us to arrive. Quick find on arriving at GZ, signed log and replaced as found. Thanks to The Hancock Clan. More history lessons, great puzzle.
TFTC,
The CO sent me a link to this cache when it was published and I started to learn about the characters who would eventually provide me with the coordinates and a lot of other information about the development of the Colony.
The solution came slowly over a number of weeks and eventually we had it. Today was our first full day here this trip and time was made available to locate and sign the log. Then we made our way to the home for an inspection of what once was a clever way to make a living.
Visited trackables and added a favourite point.
I am trying for a different sort of challenge at present that requires you to do a different type of cache on every consecutive day for 31 days. This is day 11 and yesterday was a Virtual. Today we have completed traditional, Multi, EarthCache and puzzle varieties.

Even though we couldn't solve this clever puzzle, we thought we might try the old fashioned way (no GPS) and hunt and hunt we did with ausandaus2 and the bear.
Well that worked for us!
Always love constructed containers. Thanks The Hancock Clan.

Today deercheetah arrived with a delicious homemade apple cake to have for morning tea with Aus2 for Father’s Day. ABear71 was also here and so of course during the morning the topic of this puzzle was again raised.
When we first looked at it we quickly identified some of the very clever fundamental elements but then hit a brick wall. Aus had a conversation with a fellow geocacher to see if we were indeed on the right track. This was confirmed and we were then offered the coordinates but declined as we wanted to (a) learn something new and (b) give it a red hot go by ourselves. Another hint was also given to deercheetah but once again the solution evaded us.
So we figured that if you are not especially ‘clever’ or particularly ‘tech savvy’ you can still be ‘smart’. So working with what we knew and considering the theme and area associated with the puzzle we thought we knew where the cache might have been placed. After lunch we set off with high hopes that our geocaching instincts would prevail and indeed they did. A couple of places were searched and then came that jubilant cry from the Bear: ‘found it.’
So were we 'smart' or just b----y lucky?
Thanks, Hancock Clan, for the challenge and for this well constructed cache.

We were on the mainland when these group of caches appeared and probably a good thing as we are now able to find and log them for the "streak week souvenir". Our record streak number was 250 days which came to a screaming holt when we went overseas and missed that important day on our way back. Since then we have decided not to even try to continue as we have been going overseas quite a bit and the pain and stress to find a cache each day took the fun and enjoyment out of the game.
This puzzle had us puzzled for awhile. Got some information quickly but after that we were information blind. Mentioned this cache to friends and what we had found and the penny dropped for them and then we eventually saw what we were missing. Very clever and interesting puzzle. We parked close to GZ and we just hoped that the plovers were not going to attack us on the way to GZ. Once again the iPhoned played well but male membsec and the gps were not playing the game well today.
Thanks again for the puzzle and cache and another favourite point from us.

Hello The Hancock Clan thank you for the cache.
After a bit of searching and discussing another puzzle with another cache the information I needed came to light, still haven't solved the other one.
This afternoon after work I went and found the cache. This was after following the GPS to the wrong side of the tracks
and then walking around in circles.
I hadn't been right down to this bay before, isn't it a lovely spot.

Oh boy this puzzle took some solving. There was lots of head scratching and in the end we had to ask for help from the CO a couple of times. With a couple of pushes in the right direction we finally got there. Thanks for the help. Another good hide. TFTP
Oh boy i'm getting worse at doing all my logs, just discovered I didnt do this one.

I had many false starts with this cache and yes this puzzle had been discussed quite a bit. What were we missing? The first bit was easy but then what? Eventually finding something that didn't belong and some more jargon had the next step done but then what???? After a while I realized something was different and the key to it all came together. That certainly took some work but I got a real buzz out of finally solving it.
We may not have approached GZ as was intended but we made it a very short walk. At GZ it was a matter of just mucking in. SSR jumped in first so I went a little further around and spotted it almost immediately. Another cleverly designed cache, love you work.
Well that completed our afternoons caching and a clean sweep of The Hancock Clan caches. Now my baboon can drive me home
Thanks to The Hancock Clan for a great afternoons caching.

Hi Hancock Clan
What a mammoth puzzle this was
It too a trio to solve it but we got there in the end; worked on it with Budge and DNA - thanks mates
After talking with DNA today and having the geo-checker like what was inserted; we decided to head to GZ and have a look together (Unfortunately Budge was at home in bed with the flu or he may have been there too)
The GPS wouldn't settle so our search was widened and the cache was soon to hand
The cache was Sainted and DNAed at 1344 hours
Joint *FTF* with DNA - A great time was had with my mate, THANKS A
It was now my plan to find your multi only and then visit Mum at St Johns
Didn't work out that way - was in a caching mood so found the other four of your hides as well
Then it was in to Mum and spend an hour or two with her and then dinner at the Cascade Hotel - the Beef Britannia was BRILLIANT - recommend this place highly My non-FRANKS Jim Beams was good too
(No pics so as NOT to give away the location of GZ)
TFTM, TFTC and cheers

I had a brief look at this puzzle when it was published but had commitments so couldn't spend enough time to solve it. I thought I was over thinking and over complicating the puzzle - turns out that I wasn't. Spent half an hour on the phone with Old Saint exploring possibilities and made a little headway. Spent another 20 minutes on my own poking around the puzzle and came up with something very useful. Back on the phone with Old Saint for another half hour and we eventually managed to get a positive response from the Solution Checker. An hour and a half later I was at gz with Old Saint searching for a cache. Another ten or fifteen minutes and Old Saint managed to spot the hide. It was nice to find an empty log book after all the work. That wasn't how I had planned to spend half my day but it was a lot of fun solving the challenging puzzle, searching for the cache and spending a bit of time with a mate. We would never have solved this without Budgie's contribution of an important factor which I still don't know how he came up with. It was definitely a team effort. TFTC
