We took the ferry to Russell to Paihia this morning. Enjoyed a walk around the town which included picking up three caches and doing the two local Ad Labs. They provided an interesting tour in themselves! This one was located reasonably quickly by Mrs tbird whilst I was giving the letterbox the once over elsewhere! Nifty set-up! #8083. TFTC.
7.4 World travelers adventure log.Out and about exploring the world with Nildran on this epic adventure! Thanks for adding to our memories and letting us explore your favorite spots all over the world! It continues to be a wild ride!TFTC SL If you find yourself at a local pub during trivia night, and the category is:'States shaped like a Mitten'here is some information that may help you win that round:Michigan trivia 7.444. Grand Rapids itself became very, very annoyed by a 2011 Newsweek website article that listed it as one of America's Dying Cities and fought back by making a video featuring practically everyone in town lyp-synching to the song American Pie. The video went viral on YouTube, which prompted Newsweek to disclaim the original article.45. The original name of the University of Michigan, which was founded in 1817, was Catholepistemiad. Yeah, try chanting that at a football game.46. The University of Michigan has been nicknamed the Harvard of the West, which led Harvard alum JFK, in a speech he delivered during a 1961 campus visit, to refer to himself as a graduate of the Michigan of the East.47. Famous UM grads include Scopes trial defense attorney Clarence Darrow, Swedish diplomat-turned-Holocaust hero Raoul Wallenberg, Vader-voicing actor James Earl Jones, material girl Madonna and former prez Gerald R. Ford48. Michigan State University was the first agricultural college in the U.S.49. MSU's got its own illustrious alums, including the famously missing former Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa, actor Robert Urich, director Sam Raimi and NBA superstar Magic Johnson.50. Edsel Ford, son of Henry (and no relation to Gerald R.), may forever be associated with Detroit's biggest flop, but he died 14 years before the line of cars bearing his name came out. Edsel himself would most likely have done a much better job with the designhe was, after all, responsible for the body of the super-successful Model A, as well as its braking and transmission systems.51. Grand Haven is famous for its singing sand beaches, which make a whistling sound when you walk on them. 52. Hamtramck has an annual Paczki Day celebration devoted to the greater glory of this Polish version of a jelly doughnut
Out caching with TL. TFTC! Left a replacement log because the current log was damp.
I was up north for a week, visiting family with TheLandGirl and today we took a trip over to Russell. Spotted this guy as we drove in, then realised he had a cache on him, so stopped on our way out of Russell to grab it. A quick find at GZ. FP for the hide. TFTC!
Found with Vistra during our trip to Russell. What a cute mail box! A quick find and FP worthy. Tftc
Yet more dodgy coordinates here. They're on the other side of the road. Thankfully it was pretty obvious from the title where I should be looking, and a quick find. Impressive handiwork. TFTC.
Third time visiting this spot. Found the cache this time by car on a trip over from Opua. Thanks.
Visiting from Nova Scotia Canada, cruising on HAL Volendam around NZ. Very much enjoying Russell. Thanks
We were anchored in Waitangi New Zealand a day on our ship - Holland America's Volendam. We did the Adventure Lab in Paihia before boarding the ferry to Russell to do a few Adventure Labs and a few caches there. we wound up with 3 completed Labs and 5 caches on the day. Great Day!Thank you to the COs and the Lab creators for the caches and for the Labs.#####################This Cache: Quick Find - Very creative hidey spot - FAV awarded here for sure.
We need a new hobby because we suck at geocaching. Apparently, this was hanging from the chain at one time, but even the throwdown isnt even there. I dont feel like putting another throwdown.
Was sure I was in the correct spot due to former logs, but no cache was too be found. Decried to replace with a new log and baggie. If cache owners disagrees, ok to delete log. Tftc
We stayed blue I knew exactly what I was looking for and where it should probably be, but despite a lengthy search, no smiley for us.
Dieser Cache konnte heute erfolgreich geloggt werden.Danke an den owner fr's legen und pflegen TFTC Schmerzbefreit
This is such a cute cache and Santagrandpa must add a favorite point to the collection. Log is signed, TFTC, and greetings from Florida.

What a cool cache! We had to come and check this one out after seeing all the favourite points. It definitely cheered us up. We found the container but the log book was missing. Still and awesome cache though. Tftc.

On the return journey to Paihia after a cruise around the Bay, half the team jumped ship at Russell to see what could be found there. After completing the two LAB caches between the dock and here, as well as the traditional in the churchyard, I decided I might as well have a crack at this one as I had missed the ferry I had planned to catch to Paihia and I still had plenty of time to catch the next one.
The walk to GZ from the churchyard was pleasant enough and there was no-one around to see what I was up to, so a very quick retrieval of the cache and back on my way to the ferry.
The cache was in good condition.
TNLNSL. TFTC Fullofun.

I noticed the GZ on the way into town without realising it was a cache. Some great clues in the description. Well done for your ingenuity.

Being on an adventure lab here in Russell, it’s always nice to find an extra cache surrounding it.

Resuming my walkabout on a wet and windy day, after a kind local gave me a lift back to Russell from Tapeka.
Found after a brief search at a deserted GZ.
Signed the log and carefully replaced the cache as found before hurrying back into town to catch the shuttle bus back to Paihia.
TFTC and for providing the caches to keep me occupied on this wet and windy day.

Found while in the area with our cruise ship. Found with Mark J 57. Thanks for the hide.
Cheered me up indeed. Quick find thanks to the hint. The log has been wet and got a bit stuck for me. Otherwise, a cool spot! Thanks!
I just love how creative some people are with their post boxes. I have seen some wonderful creations, especially in rural areas.
In the light drizzle I made my way slowly down the road towards GZ. It was a bit of a challenge because of a broken foot, but geocachers don't let such trivial matters stop them entirely. At least the sidewalk is even.
I spotted the cute character, but somehow didn't make the connection with the cache. Besides, my phone was pointing to the other side of the road for some bizarre reason. Thus, I crossed and had a look in a pile of rubble, coming up with nothing. By then the compass on the phone had changed its mind again, and was pointing back to where I had been.
No problems once the penny had dropped. An easy find, and a quick log. It certainly brought a smile to my face that even the steady drizzle couldn't wash off.

A nice quick find. I was fairly sure where the cache would be as we drove past. We completed as part of our wander about town. Thanks for placing your cache.
Ms_KR and I are off on our annual pilgrimage to Auckland to visit family. Up to Northland for a few days, cruised around Russell and Piahia today. Another great day, though a bit windy with squally showers.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. .

Well the locals would have seen us checking out rocks and slipping down a bank if they had been looking. The location was suggested and rejected a couple of times, but we finally decided we could at least LOOK as we went past! Found by one very noisy 8yr old, so the locals would have heard us too. Cache is all good. TFTC
Day 3 of a little tiki tour with Mrs NZ Travellers and today was explore Russell day. Quick car ferry over - they are sooooo efficient - and we were on a roll.
Stopped across the road and was thankful to read the neighbours know about this one as some were around. Nice quick find. Took a pic of the cool box.
Thanks for the cache.

Over for the morning. Awesome for bike around. Will have to come back another time for the rest. Great camo and a fp from me.
One of our favourite ones for today.
A quick find on the way out of town. We expected to get rumbled by someone but we didn’t. We certainly took long enough, heading back to the car for some RITR paper to add to it as the original was a bit damp.
TFTC Fullofun.
Day 9 of our Northland trip, and today is Russell.
We have held of until now to head to this quaint little town that has the feel of an island village, but with the benefit you can drive to it.
It reminds me of Akaroa a bit, but with distinct differences.
We had a great day here. RG enjoyed checking out the shops and made some purchases. We visited the museum, walked to the flagstaff and checked out a few other beaches.
Had to have something to drink at the Duke Of Marlborough too, so that is ticked off.
Nice weather for most of the day after a gloomy start. We enjoyed the day out here, even the little car ferry over for the novelty value. We might have another one later this week on the west coast of Northland, but we’ll see.
Thanks all COs for the caches and maintenance.
