Thanks rosibel86 for this cache in the Waitarere forest.Today I biked around with Hummmus finding some caches, and after she turned back I found a few more, including this... Nice and dry on its platform and under it's Manawatu Turbos-style shelter.I was going to say it was very peaceful there, but a raucous pheasant was disturbing at times. TNLNSL TFTC
Should have downloaded the map, internet is not great out in the depths of the forest! Nevertheless we found the rough turn off the track and followed our nose. Another one for the Mothers Day forest walk.
Nice walk today after yesterdays weather. Thanks for the placement, cache was in good order, now time for an ice cream.
After the second event of the weekend capperze, eatherlord seaganoid and I went to go find this cache after arriving near gz we had quickly spotted the cache. Thanks rosibel86 for the hideWhile Staying out in Waitawere for the to attend 4 events for Watcache we decide we should get a few caches. So The Seaganoid and I started the morning of the 4/11 bright and early at 5 30. In order to get all the caches on our list before the event we figured this would be an acceptable time to start. So the day began with a walk out into the North forest. Once we finished in the south forest we headed to the local 4 q=square for a coffee break and then got ready to start the second event of the weekend. After the event Eatherlord Clan, Capers, The Seaganoid and I got talking and we all wanted various caches in the Waitawere south forest. After a long walk we eventually got all the caches in the forest and down the beach and returned to the hall. After attending the third event 12 of us decided to get the Adlab. After getting 3 stages we headed back to the hall to get some much needed rest. After Some rest and finding a few more caches the following day and the fourth and final event and 3 days of caching I had Finished by walking 52 kms. Thanks to everyone involved this weekend.
Cross-country to this one, but it's a large so appealing. Nice and easy here and replaced as found. It's been a few years since I've had a multi-day, event-centred Geo-experience - the Wellington MEGA would have been it, so a long time between drinks (as if). The last few iterations locally haven't fitted in with our family plans so have been shelved but mrs c's trip North this week is timely and enables me to head to Waitarere Beach for watcache's Geo-Jamboree (after all, it was centred on the Scout Hall!) A fun weekend of events, nearby unfound caches, and a trickled release of new ones too, acquaintances renewed and established and some (mostly) good weather. Much kudos to the CO,and his family, for their efforts over this last wee while, recognizing that this doesn't happen without dedication and preparation. After 3 days of caching, around 35 kms walked and 30-something finds I left around midday after some {FTF} chasing, and then got my last D/T combo for a third trip around the grid, with Etherlord and Ethermiss for company.Awesome weekend, thanks to all involved.
Found as part of watcache's weekend of festivities at Waitrere Beach.Capperz, Fuzzball, and I ventured into the forest to explore and hunt. This was one of our finds during our 5+hour wander!Having walked through the slash and sludge, this was an easy find - we saw it about 50m away. The internal pedastool was a novel idea to keep the container off the ground
Headed out of town a little early as looking forward to the caching camping weekend here. Nice to have a quiet walk in this forest before the hoardes arrived. Great fun rosibel86 as I did not take the easiest route to this cache, misjudging some tracks, but eventually found the green bucket and my turn around point. Now to find the road again!I am using the walk to this cache as part of the Ramblers Reward Challenge in Dunedin GC2XBA7. This walk took 3.5 hours return, starting from the Waiterere Beach end. Most of the walk was nice rolling pine forest and including some off track work.
1223 Out on a Sunday morning walk for fresh air, third find today.
Wow, this one has changed a lot since my last visit. It's not nearly so obvious which is a good thing. Even better is a little wooden platform under the bucket to keep the container off the ground. Container is perfectly clean and dry inside thanks to 'paulweig', who seems to have been on cleaning duty recently. And it even has a new log book - somebody's been busy, thanks so much.

I had lost the correct track I should have followed to get near to this cache and subsequently opted for the direct route. At least there isn't any 'bush bashing' needed in a pine forest.
Everything was found as it should be with the container nicely tucked under its host. I returned everything as I found it.
Thanks for setting this up

Previous finder said: 'Quick find though the inner container was separated from the bucket'. Well, nearly two months later, found the same situation again due entirely to the bucket being left on its side with three pine cones inside, and the non-clip box free to roam out in the weather 3 m from the bucket.
The bucket has suffered damage, maybe from animal activities judging by trampling of the adjacent ground all around the tree, and now has a couple of big splits up the side. The container itself is the same type as 'Top of the Hill', not at all suited to being exposed to the weather and as expected, was holding a significant amount of water.
Emptied out ~ 60 ml of water and dried everything thoroughly, including the single scrap of soaking paper masquerading as a log book, and the inside of the tiniest of plastic bags which was supposed to keep it dry. Then reassembled the whole kit and placed the container under the inverted bucket. Placed a series of fallen branches on top, designed to hold the bucket stable, thus eliminate direct rain ingress and hopefully most of the condensation due to the wide internal temperature changes experienced from exposure to the elements. Needs a new log book, and a bigger, more conveniently-sized clip-tite bag.
An easier way to find this GC, as suggested by barefootguru, is shown in the photograph.

The OSM maps avoid this area, but by closing the square (╝) I found a smaller track along the fence line, which got me close to the cache. Quick find though the inner container was separated from the bucket. I reunited them and weighted the bucket down, but on its side so as not to collect water. I continued north until hitting some low hills, and not having the energy diverted crosscountry westwards until rejoining the forestry track. Thanks rosibel86
This cache was a little tricky to get to but amusingly conspicuous once within the vicinity. None of my offline maps showed any tracks near this cache so I was hoping to encounter one by wandering along the "known" ones. I spotted what I was looking for and was taken to within about 80m (IIRC) and from there an easy walk through the open forest took me to the most conspicuous cache I have ever encountered. And, in the forest, why not?! It's survived for years so far and is still in excellent condition. TFTC.
Trying to continue north from here proved problematic with the track seeming to run out. Rather than try to bash my own path (open forest or not) I close to retrace my steps back to Road 1 and continue along there.

Out on our MTBs hunting down these relatively remote caches. Not all the forest roads / tracks are shown on my GPS so it was a mystery tour at times approaching these caches. We left our bikes on the track and walked to this one. A good size and visible! Thanks for your placements rosibel86, we really enjoyed our afternoon exploring in this large forest by bike.
Good find with woolwood9 today.
*Nice day for some geocaching and we enjoyed the adventure*
Stamped log **tm/ww NZ** - but may be just a black smudge on some wet logs!

Another area of the forest with flooding.
Good walk, some logging going on in a part of the forest.
Log damp/wet. Stamped but it may be a smudge.

Nice wander off the track. Loads of fantails around here. Cache was a reasonably quick find after very cautiously checking the nearby tarpaulin didn’t have a dead body underneath it like it looked it might - reassuringly didn’t so found the cache instead! TFTC
1225 hours. Bucket in place and inverted. Wire spiral notepad too wet and unusable, however the neat little clip-tite bag did a reasonable job of protecting the slip-of-paper log. Two small plastic animals inside; left nothing, took nothing.
Out and about in the Waitarere area today as I (slowly) make my way back from Wanganui towards the event(s) being held in Levin this weekend. Collecting a few caches along the way, this was one of them.
With plenty of time and a beautiful day, decided to spend a few hours walking around the Waitarere forest and collecting all the available caches here. Started at the north western side and moved my way south east. Only saw one other person during my time here, running down one of the other tracks at an intersection. A very peaceful way to spend an afternoon.
Found the cache exactly as described.

Was a bit spooky in this part of the forest - I heard a strange sound which sounded kind of electronic like a fuzzy radio but which must have been a bird as a stick came flying down out of the tree that the sound was coming from. Then as I was making my way to GZ I spotted an abandoned backpack and container and a camo tarpaulin covering something. I was curious as to what it was covering but not curious enough to have a look! Spotted the green bucket easily. The logbook is completely soaked through and unsignable - I left a small piece of waterproof paper in a small plastic bag inside the cache as a temporary replacement. Thanks for placing this series of caches in the forest, a great place to explore. TFTC
There is a wherigo that I have always wanted to write, and it was 90% done when I moved house and left Blenheim. So I had been hunting around for a suitable location since. A friend mentioned Waitarere Forest so today TaybeeNZ and I came up for a look-see. Yes - it is suitable, but it will take quite some time to complete this, so don't hold your breath.
And while we were scouting around looking at what features we could build into the wherigo we hunted down the caches here. Alas TBNZ stepped into a deep hole and pulled a muscle quite badly, so we had to stick to the roads, I left him at the crossroads and came to find this one. From the direction I came it was a bit of an uphill then a ling (for this area) and steep downhill, and after finding the cache, the reverse going back. TBNZ sitting this one out was probably a good idea.
When I arrived at the cache the bucket was no longer protecting the container, which had about 50ml of water inside - everything was saturated. I rescued a TB that I think I have seen before. Hang on... No, I haven't!. I was not able to sign the log so have a photo log instead.
Many thanks for the cache, but it could use some CO TLC.

Well it was wet it was horrible and cold but hey the brightest thing we could do was get and decide a walk was needed So off we went and this was today's 1st of 3 targets well I'm sure we found the hardest route we could have but eventually almost blind due to no coverage and gps bouncing around narrowing down only as far at within 50 meters, thick rain not exactly helping either we found the bucket and added a small piece of paper with our cache names and date on in as the log book was absolutely soaked and moulding never the less we added a travel bug here too so next finder will be able to continue its journey. Rain or not a great walk and adventure was had thankyou!
Found today with mrs sea breeze! A very wet adventure! Log Boi it too wet to sign so attached a photo for evidence!
Lovely walk through to this (even if intermittent showers got a bit heavy. Enjoyed the grey warbler accompaniment! Out with littlewanders on a grand adventure
Log too wet to write on so photo log instead. Many thanks

Parked up by the Surf club to get the virtual and then decided to cycle through these woods. This was a quick find. What did I expect with that title! I’m surprised how few large caches I find. Presently they make up <1% of my finds so it was good to have two in a row. Enjoyed the cycle although I did have to walk up some of the uphill bits as the ground was so soft and sandy. Well that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. Thanks for the smiley.
Been meaning to put a smile on the map here for sometime, having done all the others in the area awhile back. Easy walk until the track we'd chosen came to a steep hill, I went down backwards. Phone GPS was a bit slow to respond in the forest. But was still a straightforward find. Log book and the container it was in had parted company with it's bucket. We reunited them but the log was very wet. Tipped all the water out, thankfully I had a pen that could write on wet logs. Next person if reading this needs to bring dry paper and a ziplock bag. I'll mark as needing maintenance. We were a little unsure of the exact location for the bucket assuming wind had dislodged it. Placed it back very close to where we found it lying. Placed a branch on top to hold it. Tftc
Rather than straight line it from the Lonely Outpost cache, we used the tracks which didn't take at all long. When we did have to leave the track, I inadvertently went on a bit of an arc which took longer but also meant I saw the bucket from quite a distance away. The cache contents had parted company with the container so I put everything back together and placed the bucket where I guessed it belonged. We then made our way to the beach where geofoodle, Biddy had a great old time repeatedly fetching a stick from the surf as we made our way back to the township.
19 July 2020 13:50. Last, but definitely not least of the caches on todays little adventure. Decided to almost straight line iu from the previous one, so slogged up yhe hill, only to be faced with a steeper downhill than I felt comfortable attempting.... So along the ridge I went, until iI found a more major track shown on the map. With a bit of backtracking, and a little bit of imagination, I was able to find tracks almost to GZ. Fortunately the bucket is readily visible from a distance, and the log was soon signed and replaced. TFTC
Now for the long walk back to the car and the others. Have a well deserved FP for a large cache and the adventure! A beautiful forest, and I'm looking forward to more in this series to attempt either on foot or by bike.

(# 5860). A trip up to Waitarere and Levin to grab a few caches. A quick find as I could see the container from afar. Inner container was found close by on the ground but intact. Everything in now order. TFTC
Great spot, far away into the forest. Not sure about the T rating here though, I was about 2.5km from the car ATCF at this point, and someone put a hill in the way, almost vertical on one side - and it was really a camoed sand dune... TFTC!!
A sunny afternoon, a mountainbike, an unfound cache. What's not to like?
A leisurely cruise around the forest roads before heading up a side track to within 100m of the cache. easy find, cache in excellent condition. TFTC!

Came for a drive up the Kapiti Coast today and one of the intentions was to get some exercise and score the three new caches in the Waitarere Forest. I headed back to the eatern fenceline from "Lonely Outpost" and then continued south but the track petered out before I reached GZ. So I headed off directly towards it through the open forest which wasn't difficult at all, and I spotted the flash of green from about 30 metres away as I approached. Signed log, replaced cache and then continued west to meet a forestry road; then a big loop towards the coast and back to the park at the southern end of Rua Avenue. A really enjoyable walk with about 7km covered and 1h 20 m from start to finish. I'm giving this cache a favourite point on behalf of the three, I love this sort of caching!
Found quite a steep way from the " lonely outpost" cache to this one. Followed the fence line up the hill and then scrambled back down on the other side. It didn't take long to locate the cache. Thanks for placing these caches in an area I haven't been to before!
Down to Foxton area today to find five caches for my personal challenge and fourth day of the Seven Day Streak challenge. Good day for a walk in this forest to find three caches. Picked up a TB. Thanks rosibel86 for the cache.
#11,275. {FTF} at 12:01. A good walk in Waitarere. Apparently, the Ridge Runners Sled Dog Racing Club had been holding its Bootie Blowout event in the South Waitarere Forest in the morning. Saw a few trucks and trailers leaving during the walk. Fortunately, GZ itself was all quiet at the time of the visit. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside.

I was aware of this cache being published yesterday, but having spent the whole day exploring the Pohangina Valley and the evening running a fundraising Pub Quiz in Palmerston North meant that I didn't get home until long after I was ever likely to go out looking for it.
This morning, life conspired to keep me out of action until about 12:30 and seeing as no find had yet been lodged, plus the fact that today was a dot day for me, it was finally time for me to set off on a FTF hunt!
But that idea was soon dashed as I entered the forest, as I encountered a happy Huhugrub on his way back from having found it. Well played! But I still had the dot day to get, so decided to go and find the cache anyway. In spite of a bit of light drizzle, the walk to GZ was still very pleasant. A little muddy along the tracks perhaps, but nothing that was any issue. It took me approx 35 minutes each way, having parked up at the end of Rua Avenue.
The cache was found very quickly, as it was very easy to spot. However, the size is incorrectly listed as a 'Large' cache when it is in fact a 'Medium' at best. Once opened up, I noted that I had been beaten by less than 90 minutes! Oh well, c'est la vie!
I found the TB that had been placed, but rather than take it I merely discovered it and left it in place.
Thanks for placing this cache, and making me come out to Waitarere Forest twice in 3 days lol!
