frmen1 and I were driving south when we saw the sign re the lookout. Pulled over and checked...there's a cache up there. We made our way up slowly and were surprised how busy it was up there. The views are breath taking. GPS was spinning around near gz, sending us this way and that, then frmen1 spotted the container peeking out of it's hidey hole. FYI...mozzies don't normally bother with me- I must have bad tasting blood. At gz though I was nearly carried away by them! They were all over me! Told frmen1 to stay near the fence as he's very sensitive to their bite. Signed the log between slaps (got three in one go on my leg lol) and returned with a bit more cover. Got out into the open and scraped them off my body and clothes. Even had one stuck in my hair, struggling to get out. All in all, the views were worth the bites. Fav pt given TFTC

Apologies for the late log here (07.01.24) but I've had a busy time since getting back to the UK.I remember this for the angry man who parked in the middle of the road coming up, forcing me to almost put my Yaris in a ditch to pass him. He yelled at me to slow down (I could've stopped my car in front of his, but decided that wouldn't help us pass each other) while I inched past his 4x4 and I did wonder if he wasn't over-reacting to something that (apart from his position in the middle of the road) was a long way from disaster. People eh?Anyway, the cache: Nice views, good info, quick find when I followed my caching nose. Appreciated the loos up here too Smile TNLN-TFTC!SP (UK) on an epic trek right around the world.

We did see a bit of smoke in the distance, and the information on site explained why. Great outlook from up here. First we were a bit worried about the drive, but this is really no problem for a regular 2WD (at least not when you are used to driving in Austria Smile).

This cache fascinated me for quite some time as I always figured the views must be great. But for some reason I always figured the drive up to the top would not only be steep, but also via a washed out dirt road of some sorts. Turns out this couldn’t be further from the truth. The road is well maintained bitumen and although the sign says it’s a 30 degree increase, my Troopy handled it easily in very low gear with steady slow pace. Finding the cache was no problem either despite the heat of the day. So it was great viewing the fields from above and feeling the nice breeze. Thanks for placing it up here, gorgeous area. Additionally, this is a great cache size with this matrix combination. Now I only have to make it down again without rolling into the next field.

It has been quite some time since I explored the general Burdekin region. Numerous years ago we stayed in town overnight, did a dive at the SS Yongala and enjoyed the little town a little more before continuing further. Since that time we usually only rushed through to leave as much bitumen behind us as possible with the aim of exploring locations down south. Also a few more wet visits at the Yongala followed, but all of those were made via liveaboars.
But not this time. This time I specifically took the time to enjoy the area. Well, and what better to do than searching for all these great new caches that have fairly recently been added to the map. Thank you very much Newcacher#2 that you have created this cache and showed me the area! Much appreciated.

Well he had decided to ride our bikes up, but my bike had other ideas with a flat tyre. Well that just left walking up. So we got a few more refreshments as was going to take longer and off we set. There are quite a few steps but was a nice walk. Arrived at the top and thought there was another geocacher going to look for it but after looking at the view and having some fruit. I was off to find it. A nice quick find. I didn't see a date for today on the page I signed (i obviously think most people walking round with there phone and looking at it must be geocaching, what else do you do with phones Smile )

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 98. Ayr Day 2. I went a bit South today, Home Hill and the Burdekin bridge and two coastal villages. There is some very interesting country and WWII features in the area to visit.

I know I have been up this hill before, I am not sure if it was for the lookout or a cache. It is an amazing place to visit, well worth stopping. The cache was found without any issues today.

Thanks for the cache Newcacher#2

The Mega has been and gone and we had a ball. We've decided to hang around for a while and find as many caches as we can before we turn south for home.
Cheryl found this one while I watched Buddy the geodog. A poor chap who was following me up the hill had radiator issues when he arrived at the car park he lost all of his coolant due to his cap not being screwed on correctly. Luckily there was ample water available nearby.

A great geocache with outstanding views from up here so I'll give it a favorite point.

Thanks Newcacher#2 for placing this cache.

We have started our return journey after the Mega event in Townsville.
Our 1st stop is at Home Hill just an overnighter here.
The trip today took us to 2 mountain tops, which had stunning views of the area.
This was the cache of the day, 360degrees views, the Rotary Club has done an amazing job here.

**This Cache:**

This was an epic cache, I really enjoyed the steep drive up here and the facilities at the top. Looks like it has had a fresh upgrade from the council recently!

Even better, I was the only person up here! Maybe the bad weather was a reason for that!
The cache itself was a quick find, I then did some exploring. I was pretty stoked to find my hometown on the directional plaque, I have seen many of these but this one might just be the furthest distance I have seen written for my home...... unless I saw one overseas.... but let's be real those ones probably said Sydney.... Razz

Thanks Newcacher#2

**Today:**

Day 17 of my road trip, now heading back to Canberra from the Townsville Mega Event! Big Grin

I left Townsville this morning, didn't have a plan of how far I was going to go but I only made it to Mackay. This was mostly due to the rain, which meant camping was off the cards so I had to pull up shorter than expected. I also didn't get moving until about 8:30am, and wanted to pick up just a couple caches in the "Saint" series before I left, as I never had time to do it! I got soaked, but luckily the rain only started when I was halfway through the ones I had hand-picked from the bunch.

Despite the wet weather I managed to find all the caches along the route that I wanted, including some extra ones in Mackay that weren't even on my list but the rain slowed down and they looked like they could be fun, which they were!

Thanks to all the CO's! Ended my day with my final cache find a little after 8pm!

Very pleased there was the road up to the top, we did of course consider the walk up but sadly we had a plane to catch and not enough time to trek up! Still, the road was good and although narrow and steep was quite good. Great views, especially on the way back down and then of to the shop near the bottom for a nice cold drink!

Up to Townsville with GreyHams, timed well with a Mega and Maze and a lot of quality caching in the area to keep anyone busy for longer than the time we had! Counties were our primary focus, up to Cardwell and south of Mackay... a side trip out towards charters, we covered some distance in the 5 days away but saw so much.

Day 1 saw us arrive late in the day after a stop off in cairns, out towards Charters was a lovely drive with its drier scenery before back into the mega to catch up with friends and a Trivia night.

Day 2 was our Mega and Maze day. Lots of great quality and fun ALs on site, friendly people and a visit from the Mega's Easter Bunny for my chocolate egg! Even managed a refreshing squirt from a hose on one AL much to the amusement of those watching!!! Loved the escape room experience and then off north towards Cardwell for a little caching through more iconic north Queensland scenery.

Day 3 saw us walking the length of the strand, lovely historic area, lots of caching and great scenery to enjoy. A good solid morning in the area before boarding the ferry to Palm island, after the warm walk of the morning it was great to sit in the cold aircon with lunch, a cold drink and relax out on the water.

The visit to Palm Island was a beautiful location and very pleased to have had the opportunity to experience it. A calm relaxed trip across was a far contrast to the busy and rough trip back. Into the waves led to a wild and stomach churning bounce of the ferry as it made its journey back to Townsville, yet up top in the open wind and spray it was a wild and fun time!

Day 4 saw us driving south of Mackay for a letterbox trail. More iconic Queensland scenery as we drove, love all the cane fields, lush green and huge mountain ranges. The letter box trail was worth the drive, a lovely area and well put together and we even passed other Canberra teams along the road! Mackay offered lovely beach scenery, a step back into my childhood and a little adventure... plan 'F' payed off as it often does. The little town of Calen came to our rescue were the people were friendly and and the facilities and hotel worthy of stopping.

Day 5 and our last, the journey back towards Townsville with a few stops as we cached along, the heat kicked up a notch but the cars aircon matched it well! Up to Castle Hill and then our time was done and back to the airport and the trip home... Many thanks to the CO's for your caches that led us on another very enjoyable trip.

This was a bit of an easy 4 star terrain find as we drove to the top.
We stopped and another cacher that had been waiting for people to leave approached and we found the cache together

---------------------------------------------------------------------

This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

18-Apr-22
A quick find here with a local cacher who was waiting out muggles when we arrived. Then of to check out the view, Wow!
Thanks Newcacher#2

A ten day mega trip was arranged with Stainless steel rat and Budgietas. We flew into Cairns and out of Mackay, with the majority of the time in and around Townsville. We found a huge variety of caches and although our find count was a little lower than we would have liked, some of the high D/T caches more than made up for that. I really appreciate the effort of the local COs and all the people involved in hosting the mega and associated activities. I enjoyed catching up with many of our caching buddies, and make some new ones too!
Thanks for a great mega trip!

The last full day of caching for us today as we collect some last caches in Townsville and then head South to Mackay for our flight home to Tassie in the early morning. we grabbed what we could but there is never enough time.

This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!

Thanks for the cache.

We are staying in Bowen for a few days, and although this area was a bit of a hike north, we decided to do a day trip in the car and explore a number of places before heading back late this afternoon.
We had this on our list because we knew there would be spectacular views from the top and we were certainly not disappointed.
We found this one safe and sound and have added our name to the log.

We are heading up to the Townsville mega with micaparamedic, Geoturtle37 and Papi4506 chasing as many Adventure Labs that we can along the way.
After grabbing the Mackay one yesterday we headed to Proserpine to camp for the night.

After completing the Proserpine ad lab wpt this morning we were picking up caches on our way to Charters Towers.

We were all looking forward to doing this one and were hoping that we would get some decent views as well as a smiley. We pulled up to find one car here but the lady has just finished using the amenities and she left shortly after enabling us to start the search almost immediately. A quick search in the wrong spot saw one of the teams covered in green ants and it took a little while to get them all off with quite a lot of laughing and joking going on.
We then headed off to another location where micaparamedic located the cache in the first place he looked and then our names were added to the log and everything returned as it was..

We then went to check out the views which were great from the look out but even better when you start driving down the hill on the right hand side

To save room in the log we signed as "The Vics"
Thanks newcacher#2 for the nice sized cache hide/

Today’s plan was to make my way from Mackay and arrive in Townsville but nightfall. Caching along the way and grabbing a few important to me caches, lol. It is just a 3.5 hr drive normally however this drive will take me all day and some. I had to be ready for work in the morning so it was a day of find what I could. Some were stops to stretch the legs. I am sorry if I did not write a note below as some caches stood out and others I just do not remember. I signed the log and replaced the cache as I found it. Thanks for placing it here.

Awesome views all round here. While people were off enjoying the views, I took a trail to find the cache. Then I had some guy behind me following, I made out I was on a trail and he still followed, my decoy didn’t work. Turns out it was MeandDe, nice to chat some.

Found on a quick trip up to the lookout. We've passed Mount Inkerman so many times over the last six years and have often said, "One day..." Now we've been up there and seen how beautiful the view is, and how well kept the infrastructure is, we would like to come back for a BBQ or picnic some time.

Our middle daughter was heartbroken over a tiny snake that was lying dead on the path, so be aware that they are around while looking for the cache. It is an easy find, and we tried our best to replace the camouflage as we found it, but bits of the cache peeked through the gaps even at our best. We had to give up eventually because we were being eaten alive by mosquitoes (bring your mozzie spray!)

Thanks for the cache at this beautiful spot!

On the way home from visiting our son in Townsville and had a travel bug that needed dropping off so chose this cache plus it is a place we said we should visit, great view's of the coast and surrounding areas, I would suggest some mossies spray as they tried to carry me off, you need to look around abuit as its not quite at the co-ords........oh nearly forgot you have to look out for all the crazy exercising muggles, you would be surprised how many want to climb the steps or walk the road...we drove up not that energetic.

Found today on the final leg of a much delayed, much desired journey up to visit our daughter in Townsville. There's been a few false starts and the car spent a couple of weeks sitting fully packed in the driveway waiting for word. It came and I went.

We've driven past here so many times on way up and down to visit the daughter, but always been on a timeline. Not today !

I enjoyed the steep drive up to the top, but was not prepared for the number of people I'd find there ! I wasn't expecting to be alone, as I followed another car up, but there were lots of people enjoying the view on this magnificent day.

After a quick hunt, there was the cache, in good order. Signed, returned and back to those views. Thanks for the cache !
