It was getting dark when I took this picture but I wanted to get it logged before the first of the year. This is located on a barn roof in Western New York, behind the barn is a real cabbose (at least it looks like a real one). Someone must really like trains - and his weather vane is very cool - I think.
Thanks.

Was out caching with a friend today and thought we would have a tough time finding 2 different weather vanes! Fortunately we were in a quaint little town that had several old buildings, complete with old weather vane. Ever since I read Trixie Belden and the Mystery of the Phantom Grasshopper, I have been fascinated with weather vanes. Did you know that old ones ofter served a dual purpose of being the towns' Time Capsule? I don't think this one held any secrets inside, however, as it is just about transparent! I don't know how best to describe it (yes I have a clear picture of it but doesn't help much!) I thought it was rather fish-shaped with one end being thinner and solid, the other end being wider with holes punched in it!
Ironically, we did not see any weather vanes of farm animals, although I did see one of an Eagle.

This weathervane is located on Rt. 219 in the town of Otto, NY. I feel it is unique as I've never seen a red fox as a weather vane before - or as any other type of house or lawn ornament for that matter! I really didn't expect to see it on a roof. I stopped to take a locationless picture the neighbor's house which was an octagon shaped house, and my caching partner looked over, and there was this weathervane!

Athens, Georgia
On top of the entrance breezeway.
This vane is unique, due to it's depiction of the Sandy Creek Nature Center logo--a frog and cattails. There should not be any more in existence, and i am sure that a local artist made it for them.

The SCNC, and companion Sandy Creek Park are great places to visit and provide infinate outdoor recreation opportunities.
