After spending a wet night camped at Cascades Campground along the Tuross River I picked my way along north along Badja Rd. Headed for my cousins property near Hereford Hall. A cool windy morning that soon turned into a nice sunny day. Highlight of the day was Wyabene caves and 'The Big Hole' After checking out the big hole, I made my way up here. It's an awesome view of the valley. Log was soaked, so I replaced. TFTC!
Great location! Favourite point from me.It took us a while as I had no phone reception but got there eventually. No log to sign and I didn't have any paper to leave in there.Left 3 treasures Thanks for the cache
That's a big hole! Daytripped from camping at Bendethra.TFTC!Container is broken and waterlogged
We drove via Captains Flat gravel road and camped out at Berlang Campground in Deua NP night before as a Fathers Day request. The vista at this cache should be an official third stop on the Big Hole and Marble Arch walk track.
Great spot to visit TFTC Super-T!
Great spot to visit TFTC Super-T!
Went for the walk today and after inspecting the hole, headed up the hill to look for this one. A few places to check, but eventually spotted it. Container is missing the clips, but log is still usable. Great view up here and well worth the walk up.
Thanks
Thanks
I walked to Big Hole and took the opportunity to seek out this geocache while there. Fortunately, there was a fairly well-defined footpad through the scrub to the top of the hill, but the gale made it an unpleasant place to linger. This cache was a straightforward find, being in a place obvious to geocachers close to the coordinates. Thank you Super-T for installing and maintaining this cache.
Some really good views from here and well worth the diversion after inspecting the Big Hole. Alas I was unable to sign the log as the book was simply to wet and mushy. Lid was detached and no longer glued onto the rocks. Photo of proof of find attached. TFTC.
Found but could not sign. Log was soaked and needs replacing. See photo. Found with Sebass
We reckon this was well worth the hike up the hill to take in the views. Soooo many Christmas spiders along the way - we issued many apologies as we tromped through their webs and hope they'll be able to get them back up quickly . A stunning spot to catch our breath and find the cache of course. Cache is soaked. TFTC
Drove out here for the Big Hole/Marble Arch hike so there was no way I was gonna pass this up!
For starters, that hole is VERY impressive and deeper than it looks. If only I was a crow (or a lyrebird…) I’d have gone in a straight line from the viewing platform to the cache. Alas I am merely a mortal cacher, so we dumped our packs next to the trail and starting marching uphill (I realised halfway up I’d forgotten my own which was great news for the step count, but not so great for the torn hammy I’m still trying to rehab.
Pen in hand, we continued to the top and across to a spectacular viewpoint over the valley which I otherwise would not have known existed. The coordinates were BANG ON and within minutes I had the cache in hand. Unfortunately the inside of the container was holding water, and thus the logbook was drenched so I’ve attached this photo.
Next up…the two earth caches out here! Thanks for the terrific view garnishing this hide!

An absolutely spectacular walk through missed and wet foliage around us. The wildflowers where spectacular and the colours were muted and beautiful.
We found this one, just after arriving at the Big Hole.
GZ provided us with an opportunity to look at this area from another perspective. Log signed.

Tried to walk to the Holey Smokes Batman and the Big Hole, but I forgot to take the bridge with me.

Arrividerci,
A lovely walk out this the big hole and marble arch today. That hill is nice and steep. Found with Sophiescout and aussiepusckaks. Took the HQ Trackable.
Found with SophieScout and Jemalong & Family on a walk to the Big Hole and Marble Arch today. Thanks for placing this cache.

Cache 6601 on 11 Oct 2020. A mini mission had been planned by TikvaNZ to grab the Big Hole earth cache off Cooma road, so Fox and I decided to join, but not do the longer walk to Marble Arch, as we had family stuff to do in the afternoon. Collected a few caches on the drive to the camp ground (as you do) and then joined the group on the walk. River crossing was fun as we were all prepared then a steady climb to the hole. Then back to Braidwood for lunch/breakfast, and back to CBR. A great day for a drive in the country and a fun walk. After collecting the information for the nearby earth cache, a group of us clambered up the hill to grab this golden oldie. Great views from here. Took the scratchie way in and the better way out. Thanks Super-T for the cache and the fun!
Well the walk up was unexpected. It was up and up and up some more. Big hole was fabulous and the views up here fantastic. Out and about on an awesome spring day targeting the Earthcaches at Marble Arch and Big Hole with a group of cachers. Awesome day to be out.TFTC Super-T
TikvaNZ had called to arms for EC day and lots of us gladly followed the call. I even had the privilege to catch a ride with him.
A very enjoyable outing, a long drive with some caches at the end to break it up when we knew we had the time. A great walk with the CO and lots of others in an non burned bit of the NP and finally some other quick stops and an AL to top it all off on the way home. Thank you TikvaNZ for driving us and a particular thanks to the cache owners, in particular for the nice ECs that brought us out here!
Quick find with the group, nice place for a cache, all in good order.
Thank you Super-T for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

With Tankengine, dty73, GreyHams and myself we made the drive out to meet up with a group of Canberra caches for a walk organised by TikvaNZ for earthcache weekend. The Big Hole and Marble Arch were our plans for the day, having heard about these previously I was looking forward to visiting... a little unsure about the walk but found it wasn't too bad, just a bit slow on a few of the hills but survived and didn't feel bad for it after... always a bonus!
With the recent rain there was concern about the river crossing, higher than normal but only about knee deep, so manageable. Many brought water shoes and poles for the crossing which was sensible, I was not despite having both at home. The water was cold which didn't help the feet which complained, painfully, about crossing. Made it across with a little help at the end. The return trip though that water was refreshing and if I had had shoes, would have been welcomed!
A beautiful day to be out and great bunch of people to spend the nice day with, about 20 to big hole, and 16 to the marble arch. Really enjoyed the area, the locations and of course the great company as we walked along. Lunch by Tankengine was needed and super yummy as well. Of course a days caching couldn't go without a few caches along the way so a bit of pre and post walk caches were collected, some with a nice bit of age to them as well! Many thanks for your cache that aiding in an enjoyable day!
After stopping at the big hole and taking in the amazing size that it is, the group trickled its way up the hill to this cache. I headed off with the first of the group and that hill is a lot steeper than it looks!!! A 2002 cache though so worth the walk up the hill, the views from the top also worth the walk. All looking very green down across the valley, very pretty!

On international Earthcache day I joined an intrepid band of cachers on a journey in the remote wilds....well, 90 minutes out of canberra anyway. When I looked at where it was I was like..."hmmmm, thats a distance" but I then saw Holey Smokes Batman and that had been on my TODO lists for years, so I was instantly in.
While we were in the area, we grabbed all the other trads as they are all interesting, being old or decent sizes.
Of the three Earthcaches today, The Big Hole was much, much bigger and deeper than I was expecting, I was shocked. Marble Arch was so underwhelming when we first arrived, but then I went in, deeper, then deeper... it got better and better. Lastly, it was Wyanbene cave which started off so humbly, but was equally very impressive. The view on the way out was unforgettable.

Tankengine, Aquilus1, GreyHams and I were altogether in one car heading to the TikvaNZ Walking Adventure - the Big Hole and Marble Arch and picked up a couple of other caches in the area too.
We arrived at the carpark to find everyone else getting ready for the hike. We prepared ourselves too, then we all headed to the river.
The river was about knee to thigh high deep and very cold. But although the cold water over was a little shocking, that same cold water felt awesome after the 12km hike. Smart people brought water shoes to avoid the painful rocks (I was not one of them ️).
The day was an awesome success. The weather was perfect, the company great and the caches and locations unbeatable!! Thanks for pulling this together and organising the day TikvaNZ.
This cache: After forgetting my walking stick at the river crossing, I had to run back a couple of hundred meters to get it. I then caught up to IamCoust, The Matrix and Co and walked with them to the Big Hole.
It didn’t take too long, but we ended up walking up to this cache after everyone else had come back down.
Tankengine joined us and our small band of merry fellows climbed the hill. Wow what a lung burner! But so worth it once at the top. The views were amazing.
We found the cache, took some photos then headed back down to the rest of the gang. Tftc Super-T!!!

#6533 4th for today
Happy International Earthcache Day ! Today a group of us (TikvaNZ, Tankengine, Dty73, Aquilus, Isopeda, KK, Joolay, barb2e, iamcoust+3, AngelG27, Aykayem, Flintstones, Foxinjox, Grahams) made the trip out to The Big Hole & Marble Arch. These are two, truly spectacular locations in Deua National Park. There is also the river crossing, but most came prepared for that with sticks and wet-shoes. There were no incidents with the crossings. The walk out to Marble arch takes some time and effort and should not be underestimated. I am quite tired and sore today. Thanks Tikvanz for organising this memorable trek.
After stopping to gawp at the Big Hole, we wandered up to this one. It was a lot higher up than expected, but there was a clear geo-trail up. Kept well clear of the big hole itself. Great spot for a cache.
Thanks Super-T

Another NSW 2002 cache. Another interesting location.
A long walk to see the big hole and an echidna as a bonus.
Then uphill for a quick find and a pretty view.

I had seen this cache and the Big Hole earthcache a while ago and thought they would make a good day trip.
So im down the coast for a few days and remembered these ones and as i had today free i hoped in the car and headed out.
Being summer i knew it was going to be hot and i wasn’t wrong. However the view from the platform of the Big Hole made the trip worth it.
Heading up the hill from the hole i was forced to pick up a stick to clear my way through the bushes of the hundreds of spiders and their webs.
The cache is in decent condition and the log is dry however thr container has lost the snap clips that hold the lid on.
While i would love to carry on to the Marble Arch that wont be happening today.
Thanks.

With uni-related commitments at both ends of the week, it made sense to make the most of the opportunity by having a well-earned week of geocaching! I set my sights on various caches that work towards different statistics. I had a few late nights (notably 8pm - 5am) in the rain! Thanks to all the cache hiders for placing and maintaining their hides!
It was nice to grab a cache high up on this ridge after checking out the Earthcache. Great views, TFTC!

A rather crowded location today with the carpark full. Our group enjoyed a relatively easy 14.5km return walk to the Big Hole(EarthCache), Marble Arch(EarthCache) and beyond down the canyon then back up the hill above the Big Hole to this cache and discover an important message in this trackable waiting for us.
Glorious crisp day perfect for a trek. TFTC Super-T.

Taking Dwaine the Amarok to the south coast via the back roads, and of course need to find a few caches along the way (Touchstone would have killed me if we didn't stop for at least one).
Thanks for the cache. Absolutely amazing view from up here. Really beautiful.

Escaping with genghicat for the weekend we are exploring the South coast using back back roads.
Wow! This view is inspiring. So glad we had the incentive of a cache to walk the extra distance. We were greatful by the way you put detail in the hint. Our GPS didn't work at all.
I left Don't be a Fool TB behind.
Cache found a little damp and a little mouldy but still usable.

This is not a true dnf but it is a good story of caching with kids.
Well we took our shoes off for the river crossing and started out across the stones. Well little miss 7 did and soon enough she managed to slip and her left shoe went sailing off down the shoalhaven.
Geodaughter 8 and dad geeked ahead on our way up to this cache. Until with about 300m to go (292m as the crow flies) a stomach ache crept up on us and being a good dad I decided to turn back. We had decidedly less whining on the way back. After crossing back over we found geodaughter 7 and mum waiting for us in a new pair of sandals. (New as in after we lost a shoe). As we walked back to the car her left sandal broke and now we were left with 2 right shoes.

Wow! Thats a hole! But the views up the top of the hill far outdid the hole in the ground down the hill. Some interesting afternoon light coming through too. TFTC!!!!
Found on another caching adventure with the family. Great hike for the kids and the river crossing was not too bad apart from ferrying the kids across. Oldest braved the water on the return trip which was awesome. Great views from GZ.

Nibletricecakes told me that there was this cache nearby as my phone hadn't downloaded it
Easy find, but the container appears to be allowing water in.

Came down to abseil the big hole but plagued with a tummy bug decided instead to leave it to the others and hike up over to this one. A nice fast find with cstebbings. Cache a bit wet but we cleaned it out as best we could. Tftc!
A quick rush up the hill to enjoy the spectacular views after visiting the big hole.

Nice walk up the hill to a great view. Now hopefully enough time for marble arch.
My very first logged geocache find. Out on a hike with Diamantina Scout Troop to look at the Big Hole, very impressive in itself, but the view from the Cache site was really worth the extra yardage. I can only echo 'Do not try to take a direct route' we went wide as it is a big hole to fall in to.
On our walk to Big Hole (I wonder why it's called that!!) and Marble Arch I headed up the hill from the lookout at the Hole while the geoteen relaxed. Brilliant views from up here so took a panorama shot. Had a bit of a search for the cache but found it amongst the rocks and scratchy bushes. Signed and replaced.
Was a fun walk to get here crossing the river, took my shoes off and tested myself by walking on the stepping stones then thought - these things will wobble - which of course they did so I caught my balance by plunging my shoes into the water...
Did the Big Hole earth cache and headed on to Marble Arch.
Thanks!

Spent the weekend here, so we had to do the caches around the area. What an awesome view from up top.
A small hike up the hill and I had the cache in hand. A good spot and a great walk.
I visited this one on the way back from Marble Arch. I didn't expect so nice breathtaking scenery...thank you!!
After checking out the very impressive and very deep geological feature for Internation Earthcache day we headed up the hill to try our luck on this one. The views from here were impressive and worth the detour. We could see some very distant storms forming which added to the already impressive landscape. So after admiring the view we got down to business and after a bit of a search we came up with the cache. Amazing spot! Thanks Super-T !
Out for a very enjoyable caching day with Grimraider, Kittykatch, and Mr Roo. The big hole (including this cache) and the nearby Marble Arch have been spots that I have wanted to visit for ages but never quite got here, until today. What an incredible sight! Really enjoyed our visit, and TFTC
I headed out on a road trip with GrimRaider, Mr Roo and Captain Tomato to walk to Big Hole and Marble Arch and collect caches along the way. After a cup of tea and a slice of last night's pizza, we headed off across the river. There was another group there too and we were all joking about falling in as lots of the rocks were under water and quite slippery. G took off his shoes and walked through the water as he didn't want to fall in with his camera. We made the walk to the Big Hole and marvelled at its depth and structure. I have sent a couple of my kids on this walk with the Scouts and it was great that I finally made it. We left G at the bottom and made our way to the top of the hill. CT made the find while Roo and I took photos of the wonderful views - wow you can see for miles up here! Back down the hill and we headed for Marble Arch. Thanks a lot for the cache - great to make this find and gets a FP from me Oh, and after me joking about it the whole walk, I fell in the river on the return crossing - I wasn't hurt (which is a miracle) but I was pretty wet and bedraggled when I got back to the car haha
Finally!!!!!! I had a friend who came here but would never take me. Yes he is no friend now. Today i teamed up with GrimRaider, Kittykatch and Captain Tomato. We had a great day out and this cache and the hole were the highlight of the day. After checking out the hole we used the owners suggestion and found the track up to the top of the hill. Once up there we could see for miles. What a sight. Captain Tomato made the find while Kittykatch and I took photos TFTC
Great to be back here after many years. It's an amazing hole... And a nice view from the top of the hill

Absolutely love these sort of caches, fabulous bush walk, unexpected findings, exercise, views and a CACHE! Oh not forgetting the icy freezing waters of the Shoalhaven, we probably could have done without that bit, but you can't have it all I suppose. Favourite from us. Tftc
What a hole!
I was too tired to abseil into the hole after a 12 hour trip through Wyanbene Cave.
At least there was a cache here to sign off.

I came out here a few months back after rain and couldn't cross the river, so this time I was determined to get it. Went out with a friend and the river was nice and easy to cross (barely knee deep). Short walk to the hole and a few shots before walking up the hill to the cache. Nice view from the GZ. T
Then took the walk to the marble arch - very nice. Had lunch in the cave and then took the long walk back to the car.

I was out here with the Scouts this weekend and on our return from Marble Arch I took a few of them including Buzz701 and walking hill and we made the extra climb to GZ and yes, the views are amazing from here - well worth the extra little walk. TFTC, a favourite from me,
Was doing a walk to marble arch with a group of friends today, and like all expeditions a side of geocaching was in order. This seems to be the only one around so it was obviously top of the list. The trek was fine and nothing of note happened. The big hole lived up to its name. The cache was found without to much trouble, although the hill to get to it is a bit of killer. TFTC
Looked all around but the GPS battery was running out so couldn't pin point location. Great view anyway and good walk to the marble arch. Nice camp site too. Will have to go back soon and find it.
Found on an awesome spring day - well worth it
Had to leave Marble Arch for next time

Cold windy day, but great views from GZ. Watching the rain falling in the distance was fantastic. TNLN
Wow, awesome location!
I'd been out here a few times in the past, but a long time before geocaching.
What could be more appropriate that than taking a BatGirl to do a Batman cache? With that thought in mind BatgirlandCo and I headed off to explore the area. Nice views from up by the cache and always great to visit this part of the country.
It's also worth continuing the walk a few km more and visiting Marble Arch - absolutely beautiful gorge in the area.
A note for anyone else heading out this way; be prepared to get your feet wet crossing the Shoalhaven. See my attached picture.

Just as I remembered it...rainclouds hovering and a wet surround. Last time was 2004 and even in the drought the bottom of the hole was moist and cool while we waited for our turn to inch agonisingly back up the rope we had got in on. Managed it on prussicks and was one hell of a work out. Today's approach was significantly more relaxed.
We took the road over from Captains Flat - it is well graded and we made good time. From the carpark a quick wade across the Shoallhaven was undertaken ensuring everything was in a dry-bag just in-case I ended up A over T on the slippery rocks. The water was nice and cool and not flowing too fast - only got to mid-thigh on me....which is probably Doppelfrog's knee level. The trail to the cache site is well marked and once at BigHole the views are well worth it. In fact once at GZ the views are also well worth it as we climbed above the tree line to get views of the entire valley.
Worth noting that as you come back down from GZ it is difficult to see the hole until you are nearly on top of it. We pondered briefly on photo options over the edge and wisely decided against it before continuing down the trail to Marble Arch which was spectacular, although difficult to get into, in the wet. The further wander is well worth the effort.

Walked up to the Big Hole in the morning before breaking camp.
Passed the Hole up to the top, and found the cache after a few minutes searching.
Really nice views.

Nice walk, this time with a cache as a bonus. Still will have to return to complete hike to Marble arch. TFTC.
Told the geogrommetts that we wouldn't do this one untila AFTER we had also done the walk to Marble Arch (worth the walk).
Late afternoon winter sun greeted us while we located the cache. Took bowlng pins - left arcade game.

My second trip to the big hole. Glad to be dragged up the hill for the view. Glorious sunshine through rain clouds on the horizon.
Left cocktail donkey who lost a leg on the expedition. Took Mackay badge, will hopefully get a chance to leave it in a cache back up there someday.

I find this cache with Socks on the way to do some caving down in Bendethra. I've been to the big hole so many times, but didn't know about the great view from where the cache is. Thanks for the great cache. Cheers, Dkmacca
Big Hole - understatement! Very impressive. On the way up to the cache with DKMacca - I said why do we have to go all the way up here - the hole is pretty impressive on its own. But then I saw the view from the cache. The whole area is emerald green from the recent rains - spectacular. Thanks for bringing me past the big hole and up the hill.
What an unexpected treat. That hole is amazing - 30m wide and 90m down and vertical sides. It was overcast and a few thunderstoms in the hills nearby as I walked in, but it was bucketing down on the walk out. It must have been even heavier as the floodway across the road back towards Braidwood was really running and cars backed up. Thanks Super-T.
A nice easy find but getting back to the big hole was a bt tricky! Forgot to mark my waypoint and ended up a little off course and in some rough prickly bushes! Luckily the geokid and geohound were at the viewing platform and could "talk me down!" Really enjoyed the views from up there though. T - Ronald Mc. L - Bowling Game TFTC

This was our third cache find in our tour of the Deua area. A beautiful spring day, wild flowers everywhere and a nice cache to encourage us to take in the special views of the valley.
Yep - a mighty deep hole in the ground!! After making our way up pass 'The Big Hole' to the top of the hill we were greeted with a spectacular view of the valley below (see photo). I was in company with Clas-Nate, who had been here before, but forgot where the cache was, but a short stroll with my garmin put us on the spot. I took a few photos & dropped off a Mackay hat pin & Clas-Nate dropped off a 'Geo-Coin' and a 'Travel Bug'. TFTC SL TN.
Was out this way again, thought we might drop off some travel bugs which we've had for a while. Much easier to find the 2nd time around
I had come here with a group of friends to abseil and then prussik back out of the big hole. After I had achieved this I came up here to take in the view and have some 'me time' (and give my muscles a rest).
Very peaceful at sunset.
Cheers.
