WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 139 - McKinlay to Winton. After fuel and the two McKinlay caches, it was a straight drive to Winton. A few roadside stops, but no more caches. It was the first overcast day I can remember in ages and it was a nice temperature all day. After setting up I walked up and down the main street of Winton and had lunch and checked out the shops. Dinner was in the van after buying lunch. Tomorrow is another quiet day in Winton, I need to do some washing and will do the Labs as well. When I pulled up at these two steam engines, I was a little worried. Last night the pub owner was saying she saw one searcher spend over two hours here. I was happy the GPS took me to one of them and it was in the third location I checked out. That could have been a lot worse. Time to get rolling to Winton now. Thanks for the cache drrnrchr49069.2 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2006 Jan Signal A#5**Albida**
We are on our final leg returning home. Its been a long drive, 7000ish Ks.McKinlay is the final stop to look at stuff and cache a little. This was a easy one which was good cos the adventure lab gave us trouble on one part.I blame my iPad as usual.Im not sure why the container is covered with sand but what the heck. Staying at the Walkabout pub for a couple of days and thought I would check out some caches. What a fantastic place. All good here. Now, onto the next one for the day. TNLN TFTC

Love the hiding spot! Very cool. A quick overnight stop for us and a handy cache as a distraction from packup. Thanks for placing it
With these things when the GPS is bouncy the satellite picture helps a lot. Thanks to the tower here. TFTC
Velk cesta do Ocenie - den 28 - Mount Isa - Barcaldine, Queensland (750 km)Vera naveer jsem dojela do hornickho msteka Mount Isa, takov mini Ostravy, kter le opravdu v kopcch, a to skoro do posledn chvle nevypadalo. Dnes tedy m dal cesta vedla prvnch 150 km vysoinou, pak 100 km bu a dalch asi 400 km kolem nedozrnch pastvin dobytka. Prost dnes se den vydail a ztra m ek posledn dlouh pejezd na pobe a pak 3 noci na jednom mst, abych si trochu odfrkla.I spend all day on the Hwy from Mt. Isa to Barcaldine. I found some caches on the road, saw many monuments, hills and mesas. I try to find an only cache in McKinley and I got my car stuck in the mud. The local nice old men helped me and pulled the car out. The biggest surprise awaited me at the cache at the train station in Winton. I found the cache and suddenly I see a whole group of kangaroos coming from the station. I drive thousands of kilometers through the wilderness to see them, and they take the train ! Thanks for the cache and greetings from Czech republic.
Awesome container, had me having second thoughts. Thanks for placing and maintaining.RVCL.

Day 18A big day of driving ahead of us from Winton to Mt Isa with not many caches in between. The wind is whipping the car from side to side along the flat plains of the highway but we have noticed the wind dies off in the afternoon.Took a few minutes to locate but when the well camouflaged container was found we realised we had already looked there. Thanks drrnrchr for the well placed placement.
Carried out cache maintenance on this cache 25/9/2023. Added a couple of new log sheets. All is good with this cache.
bunadoorian and I stopped here to pick up this cache before doing the Ad Lab here. This took a bit of looking but bunadoorian finally had the cache in hand. I was surprised to see the Crocodile Dundee hotel across the road. TFTC and for bringing us here karicka.
As per previous logs this cache took us quite a while to find. Very cleverly hidden. Now we have a smiley face for McKinlay. TFTC.

On our holiday trip, we will be stopping in many different towns before making our way to Longreach for QOGM 2023. We will be taking in the sights and sounds of each town, exploring the local culture, and trying out the regional cuisine. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting journey!

Spending a couple of nights at Winton, slowly heading to QOGM at Longreach
A day on the road only stopping at McKinlay to do the AL & the one cache.
This took a while to locate, hubby had already given up & then I had another looked in a previous spot & there it was.
FP given, for the history of the pub next door.
What a great way to tour the country following the geocaching trail.

Day 3 of our Sunny Coast to Alice trip. Left Longreach even before my radio alarm went off in Coolum. Why do we wake up so early when we're on 'holidays'? Ha ha...
Thank you for the cache karicka/drrnrchr. Forgot to top up at Winton - that was such a sleepy town, our brains took a nap it seems! In between finding a cache excitement, running low on gas nervousness and looking for letters for an ad lab waypoint, I forgot to take a photo here too! Aaargh...
Of course it's Sunday, the servo is closed in Mckinlay! Will we make it to the next town? How thrilling! Lol

Departed Melbourne the other day and travelling north for the winter, well, for the northern warmth actually (hopefully ), passing through as many small towns as I can grabbing the odd cache here and there as I travel. Leaving Kynuna this morning and heading north west before heading back east again hoping to find somewhere for the night just Cloncurry and Hughenden, ended up at Julia Creek. I'll be heading out first thing in the morning to Cloncurry before doubling back east
A quick find before a wander through the Walkabout Creek Hotel...
**Thanks for placing this cache karicka**

On a 12,000 km circle from Queanbeyan to Darwin and back. Found on one of our explorations, TFTC.
So glad to see that there was a cache nearby when we stopped for a refreshing beverage. Nice camo on the cache too. TFTC Karicka
Today, we traveled from Hughenden to Mount Isa via Richmond, Julia Creek and McKinlay. We stopped sometimes to get a geocache along the road. This was the fsecond one today. Thanks for hiding this one and as always TFTC, MumDad2000
Bit of a late log, but found and signed on 12/10/22 with _hitam on our drive down from Darwin.
The cat took a little walk over some of the old machinery before we escaped straight back into the aircon.

While travelling north we stopped off here to collect the AL and this cache. Couldn’t get the AL to load via internet but this one was on my off line list so no problems with this one. A quick find and back on the road to the next stop. TFTC.
Speaking of walkabout creek, I'm a huge Dundee fan, it was the first movie my nanna took me too as a kid at the Rutherglen star theater. Thanks for the cache we grabbed this one coming through to the station.
We travelled 8,500km through 5 states for a 60th birthday party over approx. 6 weeks. We endured many days over 35C and then saw a lot of water in the eastern states. We enjoyed travelling east with family and then they travelled back to Alice and we made our way home to SA, trying to dodge the rain and wet weather.
Caching is a great way to see the many wonderful sights and learn about the places we are travelling through.
Thank you to those who take the time to hide caches

On our drive today from Mount Isa to Winton, we stopped by McKinlay.
How could we pass up the opportunity to visit Walkabout Creek and Crocodile Dundee!
There was absolutely no sign of a creek here today.
As we started to look for this one, we noticed it was placed by a friend and fellow Brisbanite, Karicka!
Although we were in such a remote part of the country, curiously, another geocacher (Kerrysgate) stopped to say hello, and since he and his wife had signed this one just a couple of hours earlier, he pointed the way to GZ.
Lovely to say hello to a fellow cacher in the field.
Thanks Karicka. It was great to have a beer at walkabout Creek pub. A favourite point here.

Took us a bit to find this one while the kids played basketball. Love the flies
We’re rekindling fond memories of our years spent up here in the ‘80s. We haven’t been back here until today.
A lot has changed in the region - most noticeable is the good road (Landsborough H’way) which is now sealed. Wow!! And the pub has had a big make-over.
But the best change of all is there’s this cache here now. And we found it. Camo is nicely done too. We’re first to sign the new logsheet.
Thank you karicka.

Spent the night here at the Walkabout Hotel. (I loved the CROCODILE DUNDEE movie) found the cache while waiting for my steak to be cooked.
Great camo!! The husband completely missed it. Have put in a new log sheet, path tag and potentially some flies. Loved it. Thanks so much
Heading towards Mt Isa we picked up a few caches along the way and this was one of them.
A quick find, caches and contents were very good and the co-ords were good.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.
