We are on a caravanning trip around Australia seeing the sights and finding a few caches along the way. We stopped in here on our way south. We wonder how many people scuba dive at this location the water doesn't look as clean as the last place that we saw you could dive at. A great location. Thanks for putting this earth cache together
This was the first time I have visited this sinkhole which is very overgrown with lots of weeds and I kept a look out for snakes.
Found a really cool cave and crawled about 100 metres inside before mum got worried and said I needed to come back TFTC find 382
Very very windy here and it's a shame that things as so overgrown it's an amazing place and very interesting to visit thankyou for directing us here.
Grabbed this one on my way home to Millicent via the scenic route after attending a very early start to the morning to attend Gridges CITO in the Mount at 7.30am. I did get a great work out going up and down the steps after close observations to get the answers I needed to send to CO. It was a perfect day for it, after a very icy start where the cows had ice on their backs and themp was 1degree. Brrrrrr. TFTEC it was lovely to return and see the cave area again. Answers sent.
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on. SA caching foray. Staying in Mount Gambier for a week to grab some of the local hides. Its been sixteen years since since we were last here so enjoying the re-visit. Love the country roads caching. . Thanks for the EC FreddoLNCU
We are travelling with richlink as part of our Annual Caravan Geocaching trip using geocaching as our guide. We love touring the back roads, but this coast is stunning. It is a bit sobering to look at the aerial photo and see just how many sinkholes there are in these parts. Thanks for the cache. LNCU.
**Today:**Found with DSDMy first ever day in South Australia Woke up in Mount Gambier today with no real destination, but a big list of caches! Ended up just up the road in Millicent, but still several hundred kilometres travelled as we detoured down to the coast! The biggest goal of today, and the entire trip, was finishing my AUSMER! We found not only one, but two caches in my final month I needed! Its been a multi-year challenging journey, so good for it to be finished! ---**This Cache:**I accidentally uploaded my pics to the traditional cache here, but have re-uploaded them to this cache too! An interesting Earthcache and another different sinkhole to look at! The old shed made this spot stand out in my mind the most, and the lack of people compared to the previous sinkholes! Good to have the place to ourselves! TFTC, answers sent & confirmed
Wow after visiting the other sink-hole full of people I was surprised to see this one empty of life. Overgrown and neglected. Still a very interesting spot. Answers to the CO. Thanks for bringing me here.

I've visted this cenote many times over the years and had never really thought about the tubes as be solution tubes I had assumed they were burrows created by nesting birds.

Day 7 of our loop through Vic and SA then home.
Today was our first day caching with albida, Sol de lune & smittengranny. We signed as MAFSS to save room. Some of us may have rebelled and signed FAMSS instead. It was a bit dreary and windy but we didn’t get too wet.
The aim was to collect a couple of counties, old caches to finish my Ausmer calendar, and just to have fun.
All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned.
What a fascinating area! and a great geology lessen. This place really highlighted the environment at play. Logging with permission.

30,542. Found with minniek, albida33, Sol de lune, smittengranny (signing either as FAMSS or MAFSS to save room and just for fun). After the hordes around Rutherglen it was good to drop down to a group of 5.
Rutherglen Mega and South Australia Trip Day 7. Today we had a full day to explore around the Mt Gambier region, with a few older caches targeted plus many others on our list. We started heading along the south coast which was spectacular to see. Another fun sink hole to explore. Answers gathered and sent to the CO.
Thanks GeoVenture2020 !!

Southern Autumn adventure Day 8. Post Mega South East SA trip Day 2. After a driving day yesterday to wrap up the mega weekend, today was a trip from Mount Gambier down to the southern coast line with Sol de Lune, Smitten Granny, Fitzy_1965, MinnieK and me (albida33). F.A.M.S.S was the initial in the logs today. Our goal in this region was to visit the two old caches out this way and a few others that are nearly as old. We also managed about ten Earth caches and even went for a walk or two. We ended the day with caching and LABs around Mount Gambier before retiring for a home cooked meal at the caravan park.
This extra sinkhole was a bonus for me. No swimming going on here but we had the place to ourselves, with the possums. We also managed the earth cache here as well. We had quite a debate over some aspects, but the answers were sent off for out tea,.

Headed to Mount Gambier after the Rutherglen Mega with fitzy_1965, Albida33, Minniek, and Smittengranny. We signed all logs as FAMSS.
We targeted a few older caches, a few multi's, a few puzzles always as well as a couple of earthcaches.......and really anything else we had time for.
Another earthcache grabbed while in the area. Very quiet here today and great to see the area. Water was certainly looking cold, which was confirmed when Albida dip his hand in.
Thanks for another earthcache GV2020.

Today there were two cars of geobuddies travelling around this area collecting a variety of caches based on age, type and favourites. It was an incredibly successful day and thanks must go to all COs for placing such interesting and sometimes challenging caches. This was one of the caches we found and all were signed either as MAFSS or FAMSS , as the group consisted of minniek, Albida33 Fitzy_1965, Sol de Lune and myself Smittengranny.

GT37 and I had a great time at this location. We were lucky to get to talk to some divers and they explained a lot to us. Thanks for another great cache.
When we arrived, there were a number of divers just coming up out of the cave. They were happy to chat with us for quite some time and explain the caves system and what it looks like under the water. This is a training cave we were told as it has a number of features in the one area. Thanks for this interesting cache.
When for a dive in the cavern here today, very fun experience!
Been learning a lot about these caves recently, so this EarthCache was a fun addition to these lessons.
Back in the cavern tomorrow for some more diving fun!

I visited this sinkhole maybe a dozen years ago. No earthcache then. Water seemed less inviting today too.
After securing the trad cache here I made my observations.
It was an interesting view and I can't say I noticed these features on my last visit.

Owl, Sushilord and JJ52 had been planning a trip to Mount Gambier since Bowerbird's accident and it was finally happening! This day turned into a massive road trip - Port MacDonnell, Kongorong, Tantanoola and Dartmoor. This was Bowerbird's treat and she had a ball. Lots of caches found and a huge variety of types. No one had the physical capability for the physical cache but finding the earthcache was easier. (Except for the squabbling over one question, which won't be mentioned again!)
The second full day in Mt Gambier with Doctor Owl and sushilord. We picked up Bowerbird and headed out for some breakfast before what turned out to be quite a long road trip visiting Port MacDonnell, Kongorong, Tantanoola and then decided on the spur of the moment to go and find the Virtual cache in Dartmoor. A fun day with lots of caches and some pretty cool locations which Bowerbird thoroughly enjoyed. [^]
We stopped here and made the walk down to the waters edge and had a discussion about the answers to the questions. We agreed that the terrain was a bit high for any of us to find the trad. We sent our answers off to the CO and had a prompt reply.

Continuing our Victorian trip with the family after some time at the Wang mega.
We ventured so far west we found our way into SA where we spent some time in Mount Gambier. Loved seeing the various sinkholes and limestone deposits.
This was one of those eye opening moment that you only see because of geocaching. Diving in here wouldnt be for the faint hearted.

Didn’t know this even existed. Great to learn about the geology of the area. TFTC favourite point from us.
Set up the motor home here for a peaceful nights camp. Great spot enjoying visiting many sink holes this weekend. TFTC answers to follow
So we did it, we took the plunge and early last year made arrangements to sell our little hobby farm in South Gippsland and ‘do a big lap’.
No full lap is complete without a lap of the little island first.
So after tidying up our affairs and putting everything into storage, we celebrated Christmas with our families and hit the road.
We just spent 7 magnificent weeks in Tasmania now are cutting through boring old Victoria making our way to South Australia, crossing our fingers Covid doesn’t strike again before we cross the border
Thanks for being one of the CO’s who supplied us with a cache to do on the way.
This one was most enjoyable
A long weekend away with sir_spectre. Lots of 4WDing and for me getting those caches that I had been hoping to get to one day. This one was a two for one stop, one trad one earthcache.

The target this australia day long weekend was 3 island caches, ladder entry in to a cave, a few tree/structure climbs, finishing and mogni's tradition fizzy grids, driving for 10's of km's along the coast line at various spots ( longest stretch was over 30 km's ) and a multi on a calendar day for me plus a puzzle and multi on calendar days for mogni.

We have escaped Victoria and are on a 3week holiday in SA and are enjoying the much freer life compared to Victoria, in these covid times.
We spent almost 2weeks in Adelaide and now are spending 5 nights at Mt Gambier (so we can checkout our favourite areas of Port McDonnell, Southend and Beachport), followed by 2 nights in Portland, and then back home. (this is to replace our original holiday to SA for Easter last year which was cancelled due covid and would have included the Geoventure 2020 Millicent mega.. ah well).
We've been to Mt Gambier area before many times but mostly prior to caching which we started in 2016.
We are having a bit of an EC day today, all up we will do four today!
Thanks for the EC GeoVenture2020/freddo and bringing us to this interesting spot. We certainly would have driven past it totally unaware it was there if not for your EC ..except though today as there were a few cars parked and unloading their scuba gear which gave the spot away!
We were talking to one of the divers and he started to tell us that the precipitated layer was caused by cyanobacteria. Don't know if it true or not , but interesting if it is.

What a variety of layers at this sinkhole. I am learning something at each of the many earthcaches in this area Thanks Fredd0
We are heading across to Adelaide for a few days picking up a few labs along the way as with all the crowds around this is the easiest form of caching but in the quieter areas we will grab what pops up.
If it wasn't for the cache being here and the partially covered sign we would have driven blissfully passed this feature without having any idea what was hidden here. There were quite a few bees enjoying the flowers growing by the steps but we are very happy to sat that no participants were stung through the collecting of these answers. We certainly aren't geologists but we really enjoy learning something new each time we visit an earth cache and this one was no exception.
Looking into the water it looks green and slimy but it doesn't take long to realize that it is crystal clear and you can see many things on the side under it.
The answers were collected and sent off to CO and we hope that they are good enough for this log to remain.
Thanks GeoVenture2020 for the cache.

Such a great spot to explore. So many must just drive straight by! Im assuming the road was moved at some point or maybe it always went around the hole. I heard a story that a hole appeared in the road and after 10 truck loads of concrete they gave up, eventually finding a very big hole. A Maybe Story.............

I was still in the South East but heading home this evening so I needed to do an Earthcache for International Earthcache day. I had 3 options in this area to choose from and chose this one...
I had been here on previous occasions but never noticed the remarkable formation of the walls of this sinkhole...
Today gave me the opportunity to look closely at them...I was surprised as they were very interesting...
I took some photos and answered the questions while there and sent them to the CO...

The great Southeast Saunter with Anymules down to the Millicent area to find caches associated with the postponed GV2020 mega. But with leave organized and accommodation booked the caching trip was not postponed! [^]

I am spending the long weekend down on the limestone coast ahead of the Millicent Celebration event.
I left Millicent early in the morning and headed to Mount Gambier before heading down to Port MacDonnell. I was targeting Earthcaches, solved mysteries, high terrain, high difficulty and a couple of old caches.
After DNF’ing the nearby traditional cache, I set my sights on this Earthcache. I found it fascinating how these features are formed.
Answers sent to CO and I received a very prompt response with permission to log.

I visited this earthcache with FeatherWaite on day 3 of a caching trip from Adelaide to south-western Victoria/south-eastern South Australia.
After a warm, but reasonable morning, the weather turned nasty with very hot and windy conditions until a cooler change very late in the afternoon. With fire and travel warnings also being received via automated SMS’, we had to alter our plans and were not able to visit a number of the caches that we had initially targeted. Nevertheless, we did manage to find a selection of traditional, multi, virtual, unknown and earthcaches.
A fascinating site. It was tempting to go for a swim here today!

The third voyage in the new camper, staying at Port Macdonnell for the intervening days. Little bit of relaxing, little bit of touristy stuff, little bit of scuba for Mr Morris and some caching.
Today we thought we would head to Kalangadoo and complete as much of the wine glass and bottle as we could. We swapped things around with Mr Morris on navigation and Lady Morris driving. We managed to finish it and still had some energy left for a few on the way home. Answers will be on their way soon.
Thanks for contributing to a great weeks holiday Freddo

The walk down to this one today through the long grass had me a bit nervous but the answers were quickly in hand and I could return to the safety of the car. Our answers have been sent via the message centre.
Thanks GeoVenture2020 for the cache.

*FTF* First to Find joint with jesswrigley at 10:28 hr.
Today was spent with a variety of adventures, such as cave diving, dry caving, and cycling the Mount Gambier Rail Trail. We first dived/snorkelled Piccaninnie Ponds early, and then after sightseeing Hells Hole, we drove to Gouldens Sinkhole for the new EarthCache that was just published for FTF. After an enjoyable late breakfast, we then caved at Morgan's Cave, and just as the storm clouds were gathering, we packed the car with our bikes to ride the trails through Mount Gambier. It's not often that I'm down here with bikes, and so despite the storm clouds brewing, I was determined to conduct the ride with jesswrigley to see some of the sculptures installed along, as well as find the various geocaches. We collected most of the geocaches along there, and we rounded out the day with a few new EarthCache FTFs, and then after dinner, feeding the possum colony at Umpherston Sinkhole.
It was quite timely that an EarthCache was published here whilst I was down in the region for the weekend. I thought there was a new rule that required the CO of a physical cache to be asked if an EarthCache was published at that spot? I guess not, not that I would have withheld permission of this one. Gouldens Sinkhole here was a spot that I loved and hated, for it was always a training location for cave divers that always required a stress test that pushed mental and physical skills before continuing on my cave diving journey. Subsequently, I had known this sinkhole wall well, and could almost have guessed the answers to these questions, but as jesswrigley and I were in the area, it was just as valuable in visiting once again with the small detour. Thanks Freddo and GeoVenture2020 committee - it's a cool spot eh?!
