**Today:**Found with DSDMy first ever day in South Australia Woke up in Mount Gambier today with no real destination, but a big list of caches! Ended up just up the road in Millicent, but still several hundred kilometres travelled as we detoured down to the coast! The biggest goal of today, and the entire trip, was finishing my AUSMER! We found not only one, but two caches in my final month I needed! Its been a multi-year challenging journey, so good for it to be finished! ---**This Cache:**An interesting place to find a sculpture with a fossil! Stopped here as I made my way from Portland to Rendelsham via Port Mac, for a day of caching.
Sure I'd seen stones very similar to this one at PortMac this morning.

Day 7 of our loop through Vic and SA then home.

Today was our first day caching with albida, Sol de lune & smittengranny. We signed as MAFSS to save room. Some of us may have rebelled and signed FAMSS instead. It was a bit dreary and windy but we didn’t get too wet.

The aim was to collect a couple of counties, old caches to finish my Ausmer calendar, and just to have fun.

All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned.

What a fascinating detour to do this earthcache. Bonus trad right nearby. Logging with permission.

30,537. Found with minniek, albida33, Sol de lune, smittengranny (signing either as FAMSS or MAFSS to save room and just for fun). After the hordes around Rutherglen it was good to drop down to a group of 5.

Rutherglen Mega and South Australia Trip Day 7. Today we had a full day to explore around the Mt Gambier region, with a few older caches targeted plus many others on our list. We started heading along the south coast which was spectacular to see. This was an interesting location. Info gathered and sent to the CO.

Thanks GeoVenture2020 !!

Southern Autumn adventure Day 8. Post Mega South East SA trip Day 2. After a driving day yesterday to wrap up the mega weekend, today was a trip from Mount Gambier down to the southern coast line with Sol de Lune, Smitten Granny, Fitzy_1965, MinnieK and me (albida33). F.A.M.S.S was the initial in the logs today. Our goal in this region was to visit the two old caches out this way and a few others that are nearly as old. We also managed about ten Earth caches and even went for a walk or two. We ended the day with caching and LABs around Mount Gambier before retiring for a home cooked meal at the caravan park.

It is fun to examine a stone, when the stone is really only a by product of the memorial. Answers sent for our team.

Thanks for the cache fredd0

Headed to Mount Gambier after the Rutherglen Mega with fitzy_1965, Albida33, Minniek, and Smittengranny. We signed all logs as FAMSS.

We targeted a few older caches, a few multi's, a few puzzles always as well as a couple of earthcaches.......and really anything else we had time for.

This was another interesting earthcache which taught us something about the area. Another earthcache that was certainly worth the stop. Answers have been sent to the cO.

Thanks for the cache GV2020...

Answers have been sent by minniek for our group.

Today there were two cars of geobuddies travelling around this area collecting a variety of caches based on age, type and favourites. It was an incredibly successful day and thanks must go to all COs for placing such interesting and sometimes challenging caches. This was one of the caches we found and all were signed either as MAFSS or FAMSS , as the group consisted of minniek, Albida33 Fitzy_1965, Sol de Lune and myself Smittengranny.

We discussed how many people might stop and actually have a look at this. We were curious because of the odd shape. Thanks for placing the cache here.

Such an oddity here that it was great that there was a cache that helped us a little with what it is. Thanks for bringing us here with this cache.

One of the best preserved sea urchins I’ve seen.

Today is Easter Sunday the weather started out quite nice the fog was gone and the sky was cloudy. We knew this was going to change so we went out for a walk to the rocks. Amazing highlight of the day.
After that we went back to camp for bacon and egg brunch and as expected the rain came. We hunted a little more along the coast and then back to camp for hot cross buns.
Out for the afternoon to do a loop of caches and a walk at Nene Valley our Google maps called it neigh neigh valley which quite entertained me.
The bleak weather today meant no more snake encounters. Hoorah.
Back to camp for G&Ts and nibbles night what a fun way to spend Easter
We liked this one! TFTC

I dropped in here today on the way from Port MacDonnell to Beachport. It was a fine Sunday morning and there was a footy game about to start but all quiet at the fossil site.

Out for a long weekend road trip with an owl and a dragon.

Lots of discussion about the main fossil after the required answers were noted down.

Thanks for the cache GeoVenture2020.

26-Feb-22
This was the earthcache that caused the most debate amongst the trio and the CO still hasn't adjudicated who was right. Nevertheless, an interesting specimen that would have remained unfound if not for the need to stop for a smilie. This is what geocaching is all about!

26-Feb-22
The second full day in Mt Gambier with Doctor Owl and sushilord. We picked up Bowerbird and headed out for some breakfast before what turned out to be quite a long road trip visiting Port MacDonnell, Kongorong, Tantanoola and then decided on the spur of the moment to go and find the Virtual cache in Dartmoor. A fun day with lots of caches and some pretty cool locations which Bowerbird thoroughly enjoyed. [^]

And another Earthcache where lively discussion was had. Answers to questions sent to CO and approval to log received. Big Grin

Thanks for the cache GeoVenture2020. Smile

Now that’s a big fossil

Day 3 of the Millicent mega, we headed out to do some caching between Millicent and the Mount before heading north and completing the AooA series and a few others in the area. We soon headed to Penola for my celebration event followed by the near by CITO. After some tourist stuff back at the mount we detoured via a few caches before reaching the accommodation for the evening and getting a flat tyre.

Thanks for the cache

Had stopped for the Used 2B and realized there was an Earthcache here as well. Had a quick look at it and realized it didn't remind me of a geography lesson and I could work out the answers easily (almost got them rightBig Grin) so decided to increase my meagre count of 13 earthcaches by one.

I really liked this one

So we did it, we took the plunge and early last year made arrangements to sell our little hobby farm in South Gippsland and ‘do a big lap’.
No full lap is complete without a lap of the little island first.
So after tidying up our affairs and putting everything into storage, we celebrated Christmas with our families and hit the road.

We just spent 7 magnificent weeks in Tasmania now are cutting through boring old Victoria making our way to South Australia, crossing our fingers Covid doesn’t strike again before we cross the border
Thanks for being one of the CO’s who supplied us with a cache to do on the way.
This one was most enjoyable

Answers sent using Geocaching messaging.

We have escaped Victoria and are on a 3week holiday in SA and are enjoying the much freer life compared to Victoria, in these covid times.

We spent almost 2weeks in Adelaide and now are spending 5 nights at Mt Gambier (so we can checkout our favourite areas of Port McDonnell, Southend and Beachport), followed by 2 nights in Portland, and then back home. (this is to replace our original holiday to SA for Easter last year which was cancelled due covid and would have included the Geoventure 2020 Millicent mega.. ah well).

We've been to Mt Gambier area before many times but mostly prior to caching which we started in 2016.

We are having a bit of an EC day today, all up we will do four today!

Thanks for the EC GeoVenture2020/freddo and bringing us to this interesting spot which we would definitely have missed without this EC - and even if we had found it we wouldn't have appreciated what it was - this is why we love geocaching finding things we would probably never find on our own and enjoying this beautiful country of ours.

What an amazing fossil I would hate to come across one that size. It would scare me witless. I was fascinated by its shape which varies from the small versions I’m familiar with. TFTC GeoVenture2020

Found on a very slow drive from Mount Gambier to Robe, via Port Mac, Millicent, Beachport and other interesting places along the way. Diverted specifically for this cache as it sounded fascinating, and indeed it was. Thanx for bringing this obscurity to our attention

28-Dec-20
We are heading across to Adelaide for a few days picking up a few labs along the way as with all the crowds around this is the easiest form of caching but in the quieter areas we will grab what pops up.

What an interesting location to stop and have a look. If it wasn't for a couple of caches here we would never have seen this sculpture let alone stopped to examine it. This is one of the few places we visited today that there were not many muggles so we were able to get up close and personal with the sculpture and really check things out, The answers were collected quite simply and sent off to the CO and we hope that they re good enough for this log to remain.

Many thanks again GeoVenture2020, a favourite point from us.

Nice to stop for this Earthcache. Have varied plans today and it will depend on the weather if we can do them or not.

Staying at an awesome place in Mt Gambier. Bit worried the wet weather is going to stop some of our plans but will still head out.

On a road trip to South Australia now the border is open with Kittykatch, and barb2e calling ourselves at day Border Busters or BB. Seventh day of our trip and loving the beautiful green fields and cool day. Awesome day to be out.

The great Southeast Saunter with Anymules down to the Millicent area to find caches associated with the postponed GV2020 mega. Surprised But with leave organized and accommodation booked the caching trip was not postponed! [^]

Day 6: Today we grabbed a few nearby caches and once again those unusual D/T combinations to have a go at filling a Traditional Cache Fizzy. Cool As usual there were plenty of stops along the way to grab other caches that we were passing. Razz

We stopped for the two for one opportunity here. Whilst we were preparing the answers for this earthcache we managed to spy the other as well. Smile Answers have been sent and permission to log approved. [^] A particularly nice fossil.

I am spending the long weekend down on the limestone coast ahead of the Millicent Celebration event.

I left Millicent early in the morning and headed to Mount Gambier before heading down to Port MacDonnell. I was targeting Earthcaches, solved mysteries, high terrain, high difficulty and a couple of old caches.

This cache is very memorable as it is where I was tagged teamed by two swoop happy magpies.

Upon arrival to GZ, one magpie was on to me straight away and started squawking to notify it’s equally unhappy nearby mate. I recently learned that if you look directly at the magpies they don’t swoop. I found this to be true, but the two were launching themselves from different places.
I was constantly looking at one, then turned my head to look at the other, careful not to dwell too long on either.
This ridiculous situation lasted a good five minutes so it seemed these birds were not going anywhere. I had to take photos of the rock that I could later analyse back in the safety of the car.

I decided to skip the nearby traditional cache to leave these excitable locals to themselves.

Answers have been sent to CO.

Thanks for the adventure and the cache GeoVenture2020.

There seems to be an abundance of these type of displays in the South East, well we suppose it beats paying a sculptor to whip something up as a feature, we are sure the footy teams appreciate it.
The traditional cache and this one are so close on the map we didn't realize this was here for some time so did a return trip for this cache. Funny enough we came over and inspected the stone when we visited before .
Always an interesting drive through these small settlements, it seems like they all have an abandoned church and a sports ground.
Thanks for the cache GeoVenture2020, answers sent prior to logging.

I visited this cache with FeatherWaite on day 3 of a caching trip from Adelaide to south-western Victoria/south-eastern South Australia.

After a warm, but reasonable morning, the weather turned nasty with very hot and windy conditions until a cooler change very late in the afternoon. With fire and travel warnings also being received via automated SMS’, we had to alter our plans and were not able to visit a number of the caches that we had initially targeted. Nevertheless, we did manage to find a selection of traditional, multi, virtual, unknown and earthcaches.

An interesting bit of rock in an odd place I thought.

Thanks Freddo for the cache.

The third voyage in the new camper, staying at Port Macdonnell for the intervening days. Little bit of relaxing, little bit of touristy stuff, little bit of scuba for Mr Morris and some caching.

Today we thought we would head to Kalangadoo and complete as much of the wine glass and bottle as we could. We swapped things around with Mr Morris on navigation and Lady Morris driving. We managed to finish it and still had some energy left for a few on the way home. Answers will be on their way shortly.

Came down with mogni to Mount Gambier for the weekend. The aim was for me to get a CITO in December and for mogni to get 2 caches with the tree climbing attribute and 2 T 5 caches so she can qualify for a challenge cache.

#1683 Day 3 of the Great Vic Bike Ride (Millicent to Mt Gambier - 88km). Opposite the church at the oval was our lunch stop for today's ride. *FTF* First to Find joint with jesswrigley at 17:12 hr.

Today was spent with a variety of adventures, such as cave diving, dry caving, and cycling the Mount Gambier Rail Trail. We first dived/snorkeled Piccaninnie Ponds early, and then after sightseeing Hells Hole, we drove to Gouldens Sinkhole for the new EarthCache that was just published for FTF. After an enjoyable late breakfast, we then caved at Morgan's Cave, and just as the storm clouds were gathering, we packed the car with our bikes to ride the trails through Mount Gambier. It's not often that I'm down here with bikes, and so despite the storm clouds brewing, I was determined to conduct the ride with jesswrigley to see some of the sculptures installed along, as well as find the various geocaches. We collected most of the geocaches along there, and we rounded out the day with a few new EarthCache FTFs, and then after dinner, feeding the possum colony at Umpherston Sinkhole.

I did notice the Used 2B church traditional cache that had been published in this town, but had wanted to leave that as it was a route that I commonly drove through between accommodation and access to the sinkholes. However, with a new EarthCache up for grabs, I guess it made sense to also complete the traditional in duo. This EarthCache's FTF was too much for me to try to rationalise against other calendar days, and so jesswrigley called into this location as the last one of today to study the limestone sculpture. These answers were soon collected and sent to the CO. Thanks Freddo and the GeoVenture2020 team.
