With a healthy fear of bridges, nyssaflutterby thought it perfect to take me to this cache..... easy find. Lovely little spot
Today I joined forces with chamad and geopup to collect some caches in 2 LGAs for a couple of challenges and to enjoy this beautiful part of our country.A quick find here, log signed, cache replaced as found. Thanks LizBeth1998 for the cache.
Today was a fun caching day with Willis007 and geodog bella. The plan was to grab a few target caches around the scenic rim area and then continue to head off to the northern rivers area and grab a few numbers. With just a few on the list, it was easy to fill the day in further with a few extra caches as we passed by. The run for the target caches were for challenge caches in Brisbane that willis007 was working on. For me it was a nice day for a drive and a couple of interesting caches to collect along the way. While there was no pressure for the day's outing, we still managed to grab a few interesting caches and a nice tally for the day. We signed all logs and returned caches as we found them.It is a very interesting area around here and I enjoy just driving around and the views, awesome.Thank you for placing the cache here and bringing me to this area.
I couldn't write in the cache as i was working/spraying and I got jump scared by a huntsman.
I read the interesting but sad story last night. At GZ the cache was soon spotted, we emptied the water out, signed the log and replaced as found. Thanks LizBeth1998 for the information and the cache.
Tftc. Very sad story. As I lifted up the container from its place, I got a little bit surprise because under the container was some water and in the water was a 10cm long living frog. Looks like it has found nice wet place for his nap. I returned the container so that it should not block frogs way out from its hiding place.
Yesterday we spent doing NRRT caches with a large group. This morning the numbers had dwindled with only Brother Colin and myself setting out early to pick up caches on a return ride to Tyalgum for coffee and scones.
This cache was found on the return journey to Murwillumbah.

Teamdfl & I had planned to ride the Northern Rivers Rail Trail (NRRT) last weekend and then Ruzzelz started organizing another of his group rides, so we changed our trip to join the bigger group.
In the end there was about a dozen people (and two dogs) in the group.
On the return ride we did stop at Burringbar Pub for a meal and drinks. I would recommend a stop here.
Overall, a great day out. I ended up cycling a little over 60km.
That was yesterday. Today Ruzzlez and I cycled out to Tyalgum because the road is closed to vehicular traffic due to a section being destroyed by flood waters.
We found a few caches, had scones and a drink at Tyalgum and had a great ride.
Today I cycled a little under 60km.
This cache was almost full of water. We drained out the water and found a sheet of write-in-the-rain paper to sign. We placed the cache upside down so it does not fill up again. The CO will need to do a maintenance visit to fully dry and clean up the cache.
Thanks for the adventure Ruzzelz.

Container was half full of water and log was soaked. We replaced it with a waterproof log. Thanks for the cache
Found this one super quickly although log is drenched and a little difficult to sign.
A sad story here though. Tftc.

So sad about the tragedy that occurred here.
The log is wet, suggest people put the container standing up so it does not fill up with water. Thanks for another one

Murwillumbah Day 2
Our caching companions today were the Snakepitters, We planned a circular route that took us out along farming country side, with amazing mountain views, & flowing creek beds.
It was a good day out with some great cache hides in some wonderful locations
What a tragic story, thankyou for keeping there memory alive with this cache.
Thankyou LizBeth1998 for placing this cache.

Found it! Everything is very wet however. We were unable to write on the paper due to the wet
I moved to Murwillumbah 6 months after the tragedy. The place wwas still raw. A few year later I was involved in canoeing groups of kids down here. A beautiful stretch of river. Tftc
Another trip south of the border to finish off an Adventure Lab and to catch some smiles. Make a list of the caches, print out some new border passes, pack the hand sanitizer, hoh hum!

You know how they describe a geocacher's attempt at following the arrow in search of GZ as the 'drunken bee dance', well that was us on a larger scale this afternoon. You see there was a van and a car parked on the side of the road pretty much in what would be the optimal parking spot for this cache. Rather than just abandon the search we decided to head in the wrong direction to see what would happen.
We also had another reason for heading in the wrong direction, as this was the spot where Peter and his friend John from the museum collected soil in 2018 representing Eungella for the new (at the time) NSW War Memorial's ANZAC soil collection. The project was to collect soil from every district in NSW where soldiers for WW1 had lived prior to departure. I asked Peter to show me where they collected the soil from. Anyway, after seemingly wandering aimlessly we figured that the occupant of car and van were together and occupied with something that diverted their attention from us and figured it was safe enough to quickly retrieve the cache and head to the fence for the view and cache signing duties. They left soon after this, making return so much easier.
Thanks for the cache.

I am not happy, I not happy at all. they (Suzy and Pete) sat me on a fence post while they signed the logbook and the fence post was full of bitey ants, and they (the ants) bit my 'you know what'.
I think I need chocolate for that! At least they signed my name in the logbook.
Thanks for the cache.

Found at 4:27 PM GAFF1.
Heck - such bravery and then to fall at such a simple mistake!
It is amazing how with such an expensive container that there was 2.5cm of water at the bottom of it!
Thanks LizBeth1998.

Found but there is a very big spider on the container and a green tree frog under the container. Be careful, couldn't replace rock cause it would have squished BB other spider and frog.
Had an afternoon free so thought I would go to a couple of spots to look for birds got my annual list and also attempt a few of the caches that had been placed since my last visit a year ago - good to see a range of new caches around Murwillumbah. Such a pleasant drive and most of the caches were quick finds - and even got a FTF to boot.
This was the next along the road and was a quick find. Weirdly I didn’t remember the bridge washing out but I remember the story of the young fellow dying - my recollection is that he picked up a flying-fox and it was on a fallen power line. Pity the plaque near the bridge is dedicated to the politicians that opened the bridge and it was left to Tweed Shire to provide a less permanent memorial.

Very sad story indeed. My Dad was one of the volunteer searchers back when the bridge collapsed. I remember both incidents well.
This story broke my heart! Such a brave kid and far too short a life. We looked around and wanted to find a plaque to honor him, but there was nothing... We went looking for the cache and found it wet so took it to the geoambulance for some first aid. The cache was found during our Leap Day 2020 road trip, a day which saw us attend an event in the morning, find a stack of caches, do a fair chunk of maintenance due to recent torrential rains and another event for dinner! We also managed to complete 24 geocaches in 24 hours so I can now go and buy a new geocoin! This is now also a new record for us, beating our 2012 record of 22 finds. All is good with this geocache.
Looked in the the wrong place at first and then mum found it haha good job mum. TFTC!!!
I seem to remember hearing this story from relatives but never knew the whole story, what a tragedy. Nice quick find. TFTC
This is such a tragic happening to this young man. When the cache was first published and I read the story I was so sad for him. Things can happen so suddenly and unexpectedly. Everyone take extra care over the Christmas season and stay safe. Thanks for bringing us here LizBeth1998 to remember the heroism of this young man by placing a cache here. We gladly signed the log before replacing as found.
Cheers and happy caching!
Cheers and happy caching!

What a sad story about poor Travis Campbell. You've told the story so well in the cache description too. Like AL, I'm glad there's a cache here for people to visit and remember his story. Things like that make you realise that some people really do have things a lot more difficult in their life and we should really appreciate what we have.
A pretty special cache in my opinion. Not the first time I've been here for a cache, but it's the first time I've been told why the part is here. Today there were a couple of council workers on smoko on the east side of the park but they didn't hinder my search efforts. Had to expand the radius a bit, but it's not a difficult cache to find.
Loved this one Lizzy! See ya on Saturday!

Joint **FTF** with joojoo57 and TeamBiffo. We were keen to maybe get a FTF this afternoon when the new lot was published. Thanks.
A **FTF** with joojoo57 and Team Biffo. Out visiting cousin and family in the Bray Park area, when as we were leaving, there were some new caches that had come out. This particular cache was the closest. Arrived at GZ and started searching. We had to widen the area and soon joojoo57 calls out found. Yeahhhh a FTF. TFTC LizBeth1998
That is SUCH a SAD story. He survived that first terrible experience, and helping others survive too, and then so tragically died accidentally so soon afterwards. I'm glad you've honoured him with his story and this cache.
Joint **FTF** with Richmond Lad and TeamBiffo.
Been out cousin's place at Brays Creek area and when packing the car I saw a message about new caches published in the Tweed valley. Quickly said our goodbyes and of we headed for the closest one - which was this one.
Such a sad story - floods certainly have played a major part of our local history and stories.
Had to widen the search when GZ didn't match the hint. Soon found and thanks for the FTF wood coin.
