I have no idea what happened, but on the way to driving to Gilmore (the INTENDED destination), I was suddenly overcome by the insatiable urge to cache in Hume. Why? I'll never know. I also only got one cache there so was it really worth it I'm not quite sure. However, that one cache was this one! We were originally going to try and pass into Environa using this road, but found it was blocked off!Ah well, I suppose we can grab this cache at least, make the most of our time here!Scrambled up the hill less than gracefully, and after the top I was met with a peculiar little contraption, a nice view, and of course, a cache!Quickly located in a suspect spot and shortly afterwards the log was signed! The descent to the car was much more graceful at least! Thanks for placing this cache Tankengine!
Spent some time in Hume this afternoon after work collecting a few caches. This one was definitely a slippery climb. Once up, the cache was found quickly, and almost stacked in all the way down but thankfully stayed on my feet. Thank you Tankengine for the cache.
This was steep a climb wearing sandals!Luckily Buckoraider helped me get up there, but I wouldnt recommend to a clumsy climber on their own. The view was fantastic, and the cache spot amazing!Log is looking rather full, but managed to get my name on it Thanks TE!
First ever attempted geocache complete! Seems like some one must have been there just before me.
Fast find after a couple of DNF. Sun comes out and we head home, ready for a busy Christmas day ahead! Merry Christmas TE, TFTC & for the many others of yours we've found
Found It!
A bit disappointing that the bridge got demolished. I guess the trains will have to learn to fly now!

Out with scouts on a night hike. I remember have a cache on the bridge that was here many years ago.
Headed to QBN for dinner with Mum and Dad, and thought I’d grab a cache on the way home. And as always, the mighty Tankengine delivered the goods!
Once again, I’ve never been to this spot! Quick find of the neat little hide at ground zero and I spotted the Environa gates for the first time…I’ve heard they were still up, but never knew where. This was meant to be a new town about 100 years ago I believe! Thanks for the cache.

I parked just nearby here, once out f the car I noticed a very strong and unpleasant odor from a waste processing facility nearby. I wonder if its been made worse by all the Christmas left overs.
A quick dash up here to get a move on. Nice lithe hide. Thanks TS for the fun, but not the smell

I was driving away having completed an errand over this side of town when I decided to pull up and check out any caches that might be nearby.. This was just around the corner so it was the obvious choice. I checked out attacking it from one side but decided that it might be easier from the other so parked up and started my approach. It didn't take too long to arrive at GZ and by walking in from that side it was an easy find .
After signing the log however I decided that I had probably come in the harder way so walked out in the opposite direction. Yep much easier. I will leave others to decide for themselves which is which. Yep nasty I know. Thanks for the cache Tank. It has been replaced but there are only two lines left in the log.

A very slippery scramble in the rain this morning but we got there. TNLN TFTC
Lovely spot for a cache.
Easy find after the light scramble up. Glad for the helpful fence to aid the decent

Quick find out today rescuing my brothers dog from Granddad....or granddad from the dog... or possibly just Takibi and I from a boring morning.
Final find (# four) for tonight’s adventure to Hume (our first trip to the area).
We passed this hide’s location on the way to Environa Estate, planning to notch it up on the way back.
As we headed back towards the car, notch it up we did, after only a short search and navigating a locked gate or two. Office wear probably wasn’t the best attire for this expedition but so be it… TFTC Tankengine

In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Was really sad to see that the historic little bridge which shared so many secrets had been removed so that construction trucks could rush in and out of this area. Guess that's progress but so glad I had the opportunity to see it and slower times. Cache was a bit of a challenge after a substantial lunch which made it hard to bend over but was finally found after a few minutes. Really liked this one - thank you.
This is a rather nice place to sit and watch the world around. I like lost places, and this is a rather safe one.
Main birds around though ar Common Mynas.

Muggle hubby picked this one up for me as I had flip flops on after attending a local event. Found this one whilst completing a parallel game which brought us to this location. Took a bit to get to the cache...and then a bit of brain power to figure out the actual hide...but this one is now a smiley. TFTC.
Took a sec to work out where the arrow was leading me, but a quick mountain goat impersonation and the cache was in hand. TFTC!
We pulled up here to get a lab answer and noticed that this cache was quite close. Unfortunately a security guard at the nearby construction site was sitting in his car looking at us wondering what we were up to so rather than compromise this cache we thought that discretion was the ideal thing and we have left it for another day.
A few days caching in the ACT and surrounds with Steeba, Wilbert67 and The Rats, another trip away like countless others that we have done before. We got the dates, we did the planning, we worked out a route. But there was one thing that we could not plan for; the weather.
The caches were excellent. The company faultless. The weather; atrocious. Rain, rain, rain. And then more rain. On several occassions we had to change our intended route, abandon plans, and even came home a day early. Alas, the rain had been predicated, but we had hoped it would stay away.
Please forgive the boiler-plate log, I assure you it is no reflection on the caching experience of our few days away. Thank you to all cache owners for their hides.
Cheers

Our first post-lockdown caching run with steeba, Hoojar and Wilbert had been planned for months and whatya know it - we forgot to let the weather gods know our plans. NSW experienced torrential rain and chilling winds across most of the state, but that didn't stop us.
Friday's weather wasn't any better than the previosu day so we concocted a new plan that said trekking around Canberra grabbing LAB caches and a smittering physical hides.

After struggling on the very wet dirt roads last night and with much more rain coming today we decided to change plans and hit for Canberra, hoping to do caches suitable for rain and also picking some adventure labs. Slow progress today. Great times with the Rats, Hoojar and Steen's.

I remember the bridge. It was picturesque, if unsafe. The cache was an easy find. TFTC Tankengine.
#12218 - 9:16:00 AM; Out and about with Sol de lune on a mission around Fyshwick, Hume and Tuggeranong while the geohoney's chariot is in for a service. The Fyshwick leg completed, we hit Hume. Literally the first 'stop' here and managed the find after checking a few options. TFTC Tankengine
Out with LuckyL10n for a couple of hours caching exercise while his car was in for a service and this was our next stop.
Parked close by and headed over to GZ and once there, it was like....'what the hell'. That development has certainly come on. Hope the new residents like aircraft noise....
As for the cache, took a minute to actually see it, but all was good and our names were soon on the log sheet.
Thanks for another one TE...the area certainly looks different without the bridge!!

Didn’t see it at first so started looking around but then had a better look and quickly found. Interesting spot now to get back down through the snakey grass.

Set out to pick up a few caches out this way this afternoon and this was one of them. Almost got put off by the super long grass and the water but there was a cachers path up the slippery slope and an easy find at GZ.

My first physical cache for the day. After searching around for an easy way up the top of the embankment, I decided to juts bush bash up. I find it crazy how many abandoned section of railway there seems to be around Canberra, it feel very wrong to be walking around on them. There's something somewhat dystopian about an abandoned railway. The cache was found quickly, was in great condition, and I was back at the car in no time. Thanks for the cache Tankengine!
I needed a cache for the 14th June, and wanted to make the most of a public holiday, so I decided to come out to Hume. Hume was chosen so I could find the 5th cache of the Petrov Affair Adventure lab, and then complete some of the Tralee Trails.

Out geocaching today with Magpie Cottage. Another great find. Thanks for hiding this cache for our enjoyment Tankengine
I was down in hume for an appointment and keen to do some more caching in the area.
Quick find, after fighting my way up through high grass on the way down I took the steep dive path.
Thank you Tankengine for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

This was quite a scramble. I found a cache in the area quite a few years ago when the rail bridge was still there. Interesting that there's development happening here. I guess the Fraser Raceway has found a new purpose. TFTC
Doing nearby AL. Sorry to see the Bridge gone, makes any subsequent "Rail Trail" a bit more expensive to build. Don't think I ever found the cache that was hidden in the old structure so no regrets there! I thought the scramble down was harder than the scramble up but all good in the end!
Certainly easier coming down than going up. Great little location and an interesting spot. Tftc
Tankengine wanted to check on a cache in the area, so we grabbed a couple for my daily too.
There were so many cars that came by when we parked. But they all left when they saw we were already here. Only one car stayed to go mountain biking.
The cache was a lot quicker to find than get up to! The steep slope was a good test for my new hiking shoes. Tftc Tankengine

Bit of a physical challenge and fun on a Monday evening.
Made for a great photo opportunity.

I was in the area this evening collecting an AL waypoint so swung by here to make a straightforward find at GZ. Evenings are good for caching in this area as most of the daytime inhabitants have disappeared, although there seem to be lots of guard dogs around. Thanks, Tankengine.
After being kicked out by security at the lawn cemetery we headed towards the hume area to pick up a few caches. We headed to Hill Homestead first but with no success due to not being prepared with covered shoes we left from there quickly and headed here. I don't know why I thought this one would be easier but it certainly was not maybe we should have tried harder at the homestead! Armed with a pen and thongs callum185 (only one wearing proper shoes), OK96BHNSW and myself stumbled up the hill. Found the cache container (ahhh classic TE container love these ones) and signed our names. Before heading back down the 'hill' again only wearing thongs and having a fantastic history of falling over I slowly made my way down almost falling twice and still ending up on my arse for the last part. Losing my thong before entering the grassy area and then finally making it back onto flat ground. TFTC TE love love your caches and can't wait to be in the ACT more often now that the Family live here!
Think I preferred this spot when the bridge was in place but managed to safely make my way up the slippery slope to GZ where the cache was soon to hand. TFTC Tankengine
Today's activity was to visit the adventure lab 'haunted Canberra'. Along the way I visited a series of caches around Hume and a vicious puzzle near Rose Cottage. I just got it all done before it starter to rain very heavily. An enjoyable afternoon and a few fun facts learnt along the way.
Thanks for the cache Tankengine

Too a wander around Hume after work this afternoon to look for a few caches. This was the second find for the afternoon. I wasn't aware that the bridge had been removed until i came down here today!

The last several weeks have been spent out cleaning up pockets of caches with GreyHams on the weekend. At least, as many as we can in those areas as we have been able to. Todays plans fell away at the last moment but that led to the opportunity to head back to a few of the places with caches that got left behind, or had since been solved.
There is something very satisfying about seeing the map clean and cleared, so the chance to go back for the odd one that still sat there was good. It is of course a lot of fun to just head out and trek about these areas, some that I have been too many, many times now!
It seemed we had at least one cache on each hill in the area, although a few shorter walks managed the last of these this time. This worked well with the odd shower that blew through, but a little rain was no issue. Thanks for your cache which helped lead to another enjoyable caching day out.
The absent bride is very much noticed! We clambered up and then slid back down, cache was spotted quickly and a seat to log!

Today was another day out with Aquilus1 in Covid lockdown.... even though technically thats ending now, but we have been weekend caching in the ACT for a few months now doing our best to get outside.
Its just as well the lockdown finished, as we crossed into NSW on three separate occasions today! Albeit in Hume and only a few metres each time.
We spent the last three months solving the very, very, last of a nest of puzzles going from Mt Taylor, through Wanniassa Hills, Isaacs Ridge to Red Hill..... and of course I only refer to the 'nasty' ones that have stumped us for the last few years.... the easy ones have been plundered long ago. Most we muddled through...you know how it is, you get nowhere and then you try something different and the numbers just fall out...a couple required a huge amount of help.
The original plan for the day was to attack Red Hill.... doing the Deluxe Meander as we no doubt had to go to every corner...and a few days ago it was archived...WTF!! OK, a new one is coming out, but I am going to wait for that as I really prefer to only go all over Red Hill once
Anyway, we ended up having a great day cleaning up leftover caches here and there that didnt fit into other expeditions and/or were spanking new.

Trying to finally fulfil some old caching goals this year - one of which is to complete my calendar of cache find dates. So, today is one that I needed. For some reason, over my 15 years of geocaching, I seem to avoid May the most, having 11 dates in May where I have not found a cache. Don't know why that would be as the weather is great at this time of year and I seem to have managed all through winter okay. Anyway, here we go and another date filled!! This was also one close to home so that I could duck in on the way home from work, and whilst nearby workers are not here to put me off the attempt. Cache found easily enough, but the trip back in fading light was um.... interesting? Managed to not break a leg so all good, and my muddy pants can be washed. TFTC
I clambered up the hill and found two people taking photographs, so down I clambered again. I was preparing to walk to the cache further along the rail line, when they descended and returned to their car, so up I clambered again. I spotted the cache on approach. Cache and log are good. TFTC Tankengine.
Never found the old one near here but after a rocky scramble I’ve found this one.
F(H)ound It! #3694 @ 12:00 PM
So we cancelled our group Dog Walk this morning (social distancing strategy) but decided to grab a few caches instead.
I remember when there was a tunnel here. There is a lot of "works" going on, perhaps they are going ahead with building Environa after all. Just in time for the next Depression.
Cache found quickly and then we headed South along the Railway line, looking for a cottage.
thanks Tankengine

Was in the area stocking up on wildlife feed and decided to do a few caches that had popped up over the period of time we took off from finding caches around the Canberra region.
I remember when there was another cache here that was on/under a bridge that looks to be gone now. So quick stroll up the slippery slope and soon had cache in hand.
Thanks for the hide Tankengine
