We have been able to explore the area and take in all the sights and sounds of the city. Despite the humidity, the weather has been quite pleasant and we have enjoyed our stay. We still have a few days left before we head back on way to Mackay and we are looking forward to seeing what else Townsville. Here's one to find today.Thank you for placing the cache BenM70.

Caching in the area we pick up a few caches along the way and this was one of them.

A quick find, no muggles were about today. Enjoyed exploring the area, cache and contents were in good condition.

Many thanks for placing this cache and adding to our geocaching experience today.

Always nice to get an LBH cache, this was an easy find after my mega-walk and was probably the furthest point from 'home' I got to. Cheers BenM70.

Into Townsville for a few weeks with work, sleeping in a tent in a field near a busy road isn't that bad really, when you're tired you soon acclimatize. Flew in yesterday from NZ and after unpacking and orientating myself we had the day to ourselves. I headed out for an early coffee before breakfast and after that I headed our for my first foray into Townsville. With not many transport options aside from Shanks's pony I covered over 27km of ground, but suffered with a swollen foot for a few days afterwards. Started off with a run of 5 or 6 DNFs, but soon turned it around afterwards. Thanks to all COs for their hides found today.

This was a nice quick find this afternoon on my way home from my last day of the year at work. The cache is in great condition. I signed the log sheet and replaced as found. The trees here are absolutely beautiful and they really do make it feel enchanted. Thanks for placing this cAche here for us all to enjoy BenM70.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 83. Townsville second visit Day 3. I had been forced to defer my tyre's appointment till today, so this morning started off with a walk for what turned out to be two DNFs. Then I started suburban caching that mostly went smoothly, a few parks with people slowing things down a bit. After lunch I did a rough goat track for two more before heading into town for the evening. So many closed dinner venues, I ended up going across the river to what turned out to be a very happening area for a great meal.

After a local dog and its walker had finished sniffing every tree around GZ, I headed in for a look too. The cache was safe in its spot and not even wet.

Thanks for the cache BenM70

During the Easter long weekend, it was all about the Townsville Mega event! Highlights included a hike at Cape Pallarenda Conservation Peak, walks atop the local mountains of Mount Stuart, Castle Hill, and Mount Louisa, checking out a few shady spots along Ross River, sewer pipe / tunnel adventures, and a scuba dive to see the Museum of Underwater Art at John Brewer Reef. The Mega events themselves were fantastic: Gadget lab caches, GPS maze, trivia night, tree planting CITO, and Cal's Escape Room. There was also plenty of geocaching to be had, such as power trailing through the geoarts The Saint and the Book, and the collection of challenge caches at Bushland Beach mudflats. My view of Townsville had completely changed from my trip experience, and much kudos to the Cache Qld Townsville Mega Committee.

With e.gregory1 proceeding towards a few of the Townsville tree fishing geocache series, we thought we'd stop at this letterbox hybrid cache type given its special type along the way. It did certainly feel like quite the enchanted forest. There were quite a few trees in the area that screamed for a geocache hide, but it was only at GZ that one had the cache, with it being found quickly. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. We decided to sign the geocache as DWEG1 (Davidwazza and e.gregory1) to save space in the logbook. Thanks BenM70 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

A nice quick letterbox find here, a bit of a difference to the cache we found straight before this which also happened to be a letterbox but it was a D5 with a tough puzzle attached! Razz

**Today:**

Day 14 of my road trip from Canberra - Townsville Mega Event! Big Grin
**Found with sebass19**

Today was an early start at 6:30am to fit in the last caches for the trip for sebass19 before he had to catch a mid-morning flight!

It was then back to caching solo for me, I started off with a very hot hike near the Breaking Bad series, grabbing a couple challenges and the first few puzzles in the series itself.

I then headed over to the RRPT series where I met up with the "MEGATRONS" to get a cache that needed a special TB to access it which they had obtained, that was a success and I started to find more high terrain caches nearby before having my earliest night of the trip as exhaustion was starting to catch up to me!

Found as part of the Qld Cache mega event weekend in Townsville over Easter 2022. Joined forces with Gunnie69 after flying up from Brisbane to tackle a variety of caches around the Townsville area including three GeoArt series, other puzzles and a few labs! I would like to thank all the cache owners who are making this an enjoyable weekend! Big Grin

Today it was heading out to James Cook University and then back towards to the centre of town, before seeing Gunnie69 off as he headed back to Brisbane

A smiley has been added to the cache! Big Grin

Thanks BenM70 for the cache, the hunt and the smiley today! [D*|

A quick mail check before returning to Brisbane a little later today, sadly no letters for Ghostgums or I. Twisted What we did find was a container though, nice and quickly as well. On approach some tin attached to one of the trees made us think this was going to be incredibly easy to locate, but that turned out not to be what we were looking for. Wink

With the cache in hand the log came out and our names went in. All done, container back in place, it was time to hit the road.

Cheers BenM70.

Found while in Townsville to attend the Mega event.

I travelled up from Adelaide, taking a week or so so get here, meeting up with FeatherWaite to do some caching around the Cunnamulla area then continuing on to Barcaldine and Charters Towers.

While in Townsville I teamed up with Budgietas, Stainless-steel-rat and Gooseandegg on some days, including a day on Magnetic Island, and with Davidwazza at other times. When caching with Davidwazza, logbooks were signed DWEG1.

All in all it was a great week or so in Townsville, with plenty of great caches found.

Thanks BenM70 for the cache.

Thank you for this cache

---------------------------------------------------------------------

This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

17-Apr-22
A little detour for a letterbox, sure no problem! Budgie jumped out and had this cache found before I could turn the car around and park.
Thanks BenM70

A ten day mega trip was arranged with Stainless steel rat and Budgietas. We flew into Cairns and out of Mackay, with the majority of the time in and around Townsville. We found a huge variety of caches and although our find count was a little lower than we would have liked, some of the high D/T caches more than made up for that. I really appreciate the effort of the local COs and all the people involved in hosting the mega and associated activities. I enjoyed catching up with many of our caching buddies, and make some new ones too!
Thanks for a great mega trip!

Sunday is normally a day for a relaxing start to the day but not this Sunday we were out the door nice and early to attend the tree planting only stopping to grab a coffee along the way but all the work had been done by some very early birds so we did some litter picking to make up for it.
Another great day in Queensland caching.

This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!

Thanks for the cache.

#14119; Day twelve of the Townsville Mega adventure with Sol de lune. Spent the morning collecting caches close to our accommodation then working our way towards the racecourse for the Farewell event. Plenty of opportunities to deploy one of the ToTTs in our toolkit, which certainly earned its keep this morning as we worked our way through the "Townsville 2022" trail. Managed to retrieve sign and replace all of the caches on our morning mission, with logs signed L.L10n & Sdl or vice versa. No problems finding this one and adding our names to the logbook. Day 12 of the road trip to Townsville to with LuckyL10n and today all about the caches around town.

We started off near our hotel in Aitkenvale and drove out in ever increasing circles finding a cache as we went. At 1200 it was time to head back to the mega site for the farewell event and BBQ.

All the caches around the area were found without issue and we soon had our names in the log.

Thanks to all the CO's for the hides in the area....Easter Sunday was a great day to be out.

In town for the mega, using caching as a guide to show us the best of what the region has to offer.

The neighbours on the porch were watching me at first but when they were distracted I made the grab. Lovely area

Nyssaflutterby and I had a road trip to Townsville for the mega. It involved camping, hotels, cabins, tunnels, caves, beaches, trees and lots of laughs with old friends and new.
Off to pick up some solved puzzle caches with Membsec for the afternoon as well as a wherigo and then this letterbox amongst these cool trees.

14-Apr-22
We got off the plane, grabbed the hire car and was trying to decide whether to head straight for our accommodation or head to the supermarket. We contacted Nyssaflutterby who stated that they had just arrived at the accommodation, (she knows how to find some good accommodation) so we headed for there too. Once our luggage was in the room we decided to head out to do some geocaching before it got dark.

A very well hidden container.

Who doesn’t love an enchanted forest!

Arriving at GZ I can see why it has the name it has, big beautiful trees ??
A look here and there and I had a feeling where the beasty was hiding. Sure enough I uncovered the well hidden container.

Thanks for the cache BenM70 Big Grin

Day six of my road trip and day four in Townsville. The plan today was to just drive around town collecting target caches from my list and working my way to my 6000th cache. There was a lot of backtracking and walking trails but it was a very rewarding day, thank you.

Working my way around town I had a few target caches to collect and then there was a few I collected as I passed. So the next part of my plan today was to go and collect a few more before I went and got the virtual as my 6000th cache.

I love letterbox caches and with my 100th letterbox just completed there is no time like now to start another hundred. This one had me a little lost at first, I saw a great hiding spot in the tree and made a dash for it there, REALLY, it’s not in here??? Ok a look around further and nothing stood out, so back to the hole for another look, yep it’s not in there. Time for a thorough look and it wasn’t too long before I found the cache completely not where I was expecting it to be. Thanks for the cache and with log signed and cache replaced as found I was off to my next fun cache.

24-Mar-21
After defeating some herrings in a box KerriMG and I headed out here. I was navigating and suggested this was a pack and grab as we can park right next to the cache. Turns out that wasn’t quite right so it was a quick stroll to GZ. Quick find at GZ. Log book stamped my book stamped then it was onwstds to the next find. TFTC BenM70 I love a letterbox cache.

Day 1 cache 3 of the long awaited Townsville geocaching trip of nikid1 & myself! After arriving at the airport & picking up our hire car we headed off in search of a cache or 2 or 3. It may only be 10.30am but we are definitely feeling the heat & humidity so it was lovely to walk amongst the shady trees at GZ. nikid1 made a quick find and after stamping our books & the log it was onto the next one.

Was over this side of town for an appointment and during my lunch break I decided to come find this one as it wasn’t a nano or a tree climb so I had a better chance of finding it than the others around the area. Plus being mid day I thought it pretty good odds no muggles would be around.

My GPS was pretty shocking at GZ so I had the choice of three trees. Took a gamble on one which didn’t pay off and which made me slightly scared of creepy crawlies. Reassessed and decided to try the next tree and as soon as I peered in I spotted something looking good.

Thanks for bringing me to this area, I absolutely love these trees. TFTC

Great park with very large trees. I have never been here before, despite living not too far away. It was an easier hide than I expected from the CO. In line with the DT rating it was possible to log without having to be overly brave.

This one took us a little longer than we care to admit! What a beautiful park. There didn’t seem to be a stamp in this letterbox, but enjoyed it nonetheless. TFTC!

I went for a little, sunset enchanted walk with greyfire, tinylemongrass and kittkatt to see if we could find any of Santa’s elves.
Sadly, no but we found this cache instead .
There are plenty of spots where this little cache could live. It is a tricky little find. Lucky we had greyfire326 who spotted it after a good amount of time searching and grabbed the “Next to Find” gift from Skatierocks.
This was my second visit to the spot as I had a look on Christmas Eve but had to run to an appointment.
Merry Christmas all.
