I'm ditching dad again and heading down south for the Mega in Dunedin. During this trip I managed to do many things and meet many people over the 2 weeks I was away. Thanks to all the cache owners and other cachers for making this trip enjoyable.Day 4 of the trip. Todays adventure is Danseys pass. A great lot of caches but I struck a large hurdle towards the end of the day with not only 1 but 3 punctures. So had to get into dunedin via a 2hr tow truck ride. A nice earthcache. I wish I could have stayed out longer doing stuff for it but with gusts of atleast 100kph wind I decided not to risk it. TFTC
Thanks FMZ for an interesting earthcache and teaching me about dips and strikesFancinating rocks for sure
I love the rocks in the area, so this was a welcome stop to admire some. My driver had a much better idea of the geology, which was very handy! TFTC!!
Enjoyed stopping nearby (rather precariously) with Weka today to work out the answers to this Earthcache. WEKA will message the answers to the CO on behalf of Juju54 & WEKA Such an amazing area. Photo is of Mrs WEKA & Juju54 TFTC
We stopped at this interesting rock with JuJu54. We needed to do some extra research to try to understand the concepts of dip and strike, and hopefully measured the angles correctly. TFTC
Answers sent with zealog. Today's mission was to cross the danseys pass picking up as many smilies as possible but stop and start is not my scene so was looking forward to a bit of head scratching with an earth cache and this one gave it to me. Was happy to agree on the numbers with zealog and thankful for the stop of more than 5 seconds to ponder how magnificent mother nature really is. It was hard to imagine the strength it would take to make the sight before me topple but obviously that is exactly what had happened right here at some stage of our history. Thank you for bringing me here today to discover a little more on our history.
I've been going through my photos with a view to cull a lot I can't see a reason to keep.
And I found the photos I took at Dansey's Pass, including those to do with this Earthcache.
I was there in January 2020, the month following publication but at the time struggled to get my head around what was required. After some further research I have learned lots about strikes and dips.
Using the 'right hand rule' and the Bubble Level app on my phone I obtained my measurements which have been accepted by the CO, and so I am now logging my find.
I can now cull those photos... TFTEC. Gotta be worth a FP for the great road trip on the day.

Seen and admired on a busy day on the Dansey, with coconuts3. Answers sent to CO. Thanks for showing us this distinctive piece of geology.
Had a great day exploring Danseys Pass with busy paws today. This is a stunning view here. Answers sent to CO. Thanks for the education and info on this Earthcache funkymunkyzone & boneybruce.
I started my great and unique round trip over the South Island in Christchurch.
My first major stopover was at Lake Tapeko - here I hiked up to Observation Mountain.
I then planned two days in Mount Cook NP with some unforgettable hikes. My big goal was the Mueller Hut - on a super strenuous hike I reached it.
I continued my journey over the lonely Danseys Pass to Dunedin.
Afterwards I drove along the Southern Scienic Route via Invercargill to Manapouri for some days. On this route I visited many sights and enjoyed the beautiful nature again and again.
I already booked a tour to the Doubtful Sound in advance - another highlight on my tour.
Afterwards I drove on to Queensown and Wanaka. From there I continued over the Haast Pass to the lonely Jackson Bay with storm and heavy rain. Afterwards I drove along the west coast always in pouring rain.
The rain stopped the whole west coast, but I had good rainwear with me. Only high up in Nelson the sun shone again.
Soon I reached the east coast again in Picton and Blenheim and the sun was shining again.
After a few days I travelled back to Christchurch via the beautiful town of Kaikoura.
At the end of my round trip I spent a few more days in Christchurch and its surroundings.
I visited many geological sites and found many caches on my round trip. In Rangiora I visited an event.
I travelled 3418 km and take home a lot of positive experiences.
Thanks to many beautiful caches I was also shown unique locations, historical sites and geological features.
I am overwhelmed by the fantastic and ever changing nature on the South Island of New Zealand - I will definitely come back.
Many thanks to all owners

Attempted to do this Earthcache but didn’t come prepared with the correct equipment (with what? is the correct equipment?)
Tried to utilise my Sensor Box for Android app, *orientation sensor* but can’t interpret the numbers I screen-printed.
No matter, perhaps another time (but not really very likely). Thanks for placing this Earthcache.

Took a drive through this magnificent area today on my way Central. While the road twists and winds and is not high speed it gives time for a good look around.
The day was really good so I was able to enjoy the terrific views and the amazing drop offs as well as the sight of a NZ Falcon in flight, everyone was courteous that I met and pulled over to allow me through with a friendly wave!
There are some pretty amazing rock formations right through this road, bothe natural and evidently won and hand stacked.
Got to G Z and pulled over (good parking spot), saw the formation and also enjoyed the vies both ways.
Attached a picture of my G.P.S in the foreground showing the windy road back towards the top.
Thanks

What a stunning drive over the pass, it would be even more amazing with a bit of snow. I'd been planning on making this trip and was surprised to see a new earthcache on the way so had the foresight to download a protractor app onto my phone which was useful. Unfortunately I didn't think to Google dip and strike at the same time. I don't know about them but it was interesting learning a bit once I got back into cellphone coverage. Thanks for creating an interesting earthcache and allowing me to get an FTF .
