My goodness, starting to get weary . . . I'd solved this series years ago but never found the right day to spend some time walking around the Warrandyte State Park. Well today was the day . . . a day off for Anzac Day, 25 April. I'm trying to find 250 caches on the 25th of the month for a challenge (https://coord.info/GCA000R) so I couldn't resist doing a third of this series on a lovely 3 hour bushwalk in the afternoon. We'd spend the morning at the Upwey/Belgrave RSL Service. Two of the kids were in the guard of honour for the parade as members of the Upwey CFA brigade. The other was in the parade representing the Upwey/Tecoma footy club. Zeus could've marched as he was an officer in the NZ Army about 20 years ago. It was a really special morning.
Great series, only a few more to go today. I have my 5 year old with me so the pace is a bit slower.
#1435 - Spent a very hot morning in some abnormal early Spring heat starting off the GOLD series with a nice hike. Tftc
This is GOLD! [^]
This series first came to our attention when we were chasing caches placed on any Christmas Day. We solved and found the few we needed for that challenge. Ever since then, this entire Geoart (including those not placed on 25th December) had been on a list of mine I named "Christmas Gold". [^]
Today catnap777 and I set out to find as much "Christmas Gold" as we could, and totally amazed ourselves by visiting them all and signing all bar one DNF and the three caches we found last time.
This was probably our longest hike together and now we are feeling like we can do anything.
TFTC&Series Gunks.
A golden opportunity to test our metal.

Puzzle solved and cache found with dalerious .
Signed log at 1352hrs.
We had a big day planned, and we were doing the lot, yes the entire series on foot. All but 3 which we signed on another trip.
An awesome series Gunks, and the majority of caches were found in excellent condition. We replaced the log paper and plastic bag in 2, and 1 was a dnf.
We had two things on our mind for this weekend, Gold and Cachemas caches.
Firstly, we were off to Warrandyte searching for Au, and I am so excited to say that we walked the entire park, and we signed all but one of the series. We even added a couple of other caches that were positioned around the area that we were hiking.
My knee has issues but I am built of sturdy stuff and made the entire walk from begging to end in the one day .
That was the Saturday. On the Sunday we concentrated on the Cachemas caches, picking off the ones that were in the vicinity of where we were staying. One ahomburg challenge cache was situated in an area that required quite a steep ascent.
We enjoyed a very successful weekend of caching, and thank all the CO's that have been busy placing out so many caches for us to find. There were some truly remarkable caches placed out .

There was a shake at GZ, it was lovely and just slithered away, causing no problems. It is the third snake that I have seen while out caching, far fewer than most people imaging. I am really enjoying the series.
That is a mighty stump, and a quick flick soon saw the cache in my hand. Thanks for placing this one here and getting me off the beaten track. I enjoy the solitude of these walks and this area is fairly busy.
After doing some maintenance work on the back verandah this morning, we had to wait for the paint to dry, so we grabbed the deadly treadlies, and with Chewinprickles we rode some of the Gold series.
A beautiful day and nice trails although some were a bit challenging on the bikes, but a lovely ride with very few muggles spotted.
We will return for the last third and the finals.
A tight little track, should have brought the secateurs.
Thanks for this series, Robmc.

Here's another one we found but I must not have pressed the found button on my Gps.

A gorgeous spot. Hhhhm where is that cache? Frustration meant not just poking looking but moving stuff looking and voila - a tiny peak of gold showed itself from beneath the soil.
Continuing on our selected path enjoying the walk. This was a great find by kbucky, as the cache was slightly buried. It was maybe awaiting the return of Jack Sparrow.
Third trip out this way finding nuggets. Didn't spot a single other person while frolicking about enjoying the stunning green plains.
First off just wanted to say congrats to this cache series for being a finalist for the 2020/2021 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards!
I am very keen on trying to find as many of the finalists for these awards as I can. So came out here today to try and work on this series!
This was my second trip out to Warrandyte State Park. I ended up finding #1 in the series back in April when I was working on the "Mystery Cache Monthly Challenge" (GC5MTHY).
The Warrandyte State Park is just absolutely gorgeous, and after a long stressful day at work, was exactly what I needed tonight to be refreshed.
The last bit of daylight was starting to fade and I had to pull out my torch to navigate that last 25M to GZ. I thought with the daylight almost gone, that this maybe my last cache of the night. However, after make a quick find at GZ, I checked to see if the park had opening hours.
Mmhmm.... the cache are available 24/7... I thought well....maybe I could do a couple more lol This one was my 8th find for the day, and my 9th find in the series.
Thanks for all the fun tonight and TFTC.
Cache Maintenance Status:
The container was in good shape and the logbook was clean and dry with plenty of room for future cache finders to sign.

With 2peasinapod2012 and Geo-wife, walking towards this cache was a pleasant walk,
being watched by the roos who were just basking in the morning sun.
another quick an easy find.
Thanks Gunks.

Heading around to the this cache from number 29 I was not really sure how to get to this cache. I asked direction from one of the few people I saw but did not get much help. Eventually I found a track which headed in the right direction and it did indeed bring me to this location (from the North rather than around the river). At Gz the cache was soon found.
Thanks Gunks

Found this one easy enough, though we can see why it it undergoing repairs. A great hiding spot. Not sure how it got in trouble.
When planning this outing, it was difficult to guess the conditions we would encounter. I had thought this might involve some bush bashing on a steep hill but, attacking it from the north made for an easy, pleasurable walk.
With Knight_shift to encourage me, we made it back up the hill to the road.
Another Gold cache signed off. Thanks Gunks.

While Steve & Crustyvarmint were working on the best approach to GZ, I took the opportunity to put my feet up and enjoy our surroundings. It really is a spectacular reserve, so quiet today, even the kangaroos were chilled.
Our usual practice of taking shortcuts can be a little hit & miss, but today it played out perfectly. Reluctantly I will have to give all the credit to Crusty.
The cache was easily found, unfortunately the bison is missing. Not having a replacement on hand, we added a new log sheet as the one we found is a little mushy, and placed in a new ziplock bag, so hopefully it will last a little longer in these elements.
Now to head back to the car, with a few more caches on the way to collect. Thanks Gunks.

It’s all in the approach. Backtracking quite some way we found a more direct and open path. Only the Roos were standing in the way until an e-bike doing 30 clicks charged downhill at them.
Pulled up at GZ in very quick time.
The ride back a little slower and some puffing back at the top.

Yesterday I was heading out to try and complete this series after starting it back in February but after getting sidetrack, I ran out of time so I have returned today to try my luck.
Some of the trails were done by bike but most was done on foot, it was a great day out covering a big area on a few different grades of tracks.
The gold bar was found which had the Log in it but the log wasn't in a bison as it wasn't there.
**Thanks to Gunks for placing this cache.**

But of a bush bash from our last stop and the layout of caches making more sense now! Almost fell into the dry creek bed but managed to slide down (would have been more fun with water!) TFTC
In my quest to complete ** The Non-Traditional Calendar Challenge **, I have been a regular visitor to this *GOLD* series... but rather perversely, only finding them one at a time... so I don't run out of qualifying caches within a reasonable distance from home!
With only 26 days left to cross off, I'm back today for another find... I'm starting to feel like I'm going to get this done at last! A pleasant afternoon stroll through the bush to GZ where, as usual, it was a quick and easy find. I signed the log sheet which a little damp... not surprising really as the Bison has gone missing and the log sheet is simply pushed inside the *gold bar*.
Thanks **Gunks** for the cache and the series.

I took a wrong turn on the way to this one and went cross country for a minute to get back to it. The container was missing here with just the log inside the camo.

Find #11697
Out this Melbourne Cup day with SedgwickDave. Purpose of today's visit was a small shakedown hike getting ready for a 2 week section of the Australian Alps Walking Track later this month.
This series of puzzles had been solved many moons ago. It was a warm 30 degree day and the car park was overflowing with cars parked several hundred metres along the road.
Took the wrong trail here but eventually re routed and cache was soon found.
Thanks to Gunks for the cache.
Big things are continuing to happen! *Are you joining the fun again in 2022?*

Why is it that the caches closest to home seem to be the last ones that you look for. Had the chance to go for a stroll today and find some of this series with a couple of previous finders. Thank you for all that has gone into placing and maintaining this series is a great reserve.
Last time we were in this area we collected most of the gold that was around, but just missed a couple as the kids had had enough by the time we got to our ninth for that outing. Today we were back, firstly to check out the state of the river, but also for a picnic at the table near the old dairy farm. A quick detour across here, which was covered with kangaroos last time we were here, and the cache was quickly in hand and the log signed. Another great gold cache thanks Gunks. We now have 28 with 7 to go.

You wouldn't know that Heymissjo and I were on a FTF hunt...
At the site of our previous find she puts it to me that we should actually make a detour to pick up yet another Gold prize.
Now, I'm not saying that I haven't personally solved the series, but I just didn't seem to have any GZ coordinates on me! So, off I went following in the heels of HMJ as we traversed cross country past a myriad of wombat holes and over a creek until HMJ announced we were at GZ.
At least my years of hunting thousands of geocaches would prove useful. HMJ checked one place while I checked another. We came up empty.
So we switched sides and HMJ found it instantly.
Umm, yeah.
Okay.
That's good.
"Go, us!!"
At least I could provide a pen!
Thanks, Gunks.
Obviously a devillish hide!

Such a beautiful part of the world… even if it’s completely covered in debris from the recent storm. The river is really high, yet there are still kayakers paddling… they must be crazy! Wait til they get to devils bend… yikes!!
A detour off the path, but a relatively easy find. Hmmm we need to keep moving, we are suppose to be on a secret mission… That Welder, he breaks all the rules! It’s okay to blame him, isn’t it lol!

Went off Trail a bit for this one down into the beautiful Gully. Lo and behold here was another one of those fantastic containers.
Thoroughly enjoying my day out here today.
And really loving this series. I’m happy to drag it out to be able to come back to this fantastic park over and over.

Back in June 2020 before the big lockdown I wandered through this reserve picking up the Gold series of caches.
I'm not sure why I skipped this one. I think it had something to do with a mob of kangaroos near the GZ that I did not want to disturb.
Today to log was soon signed.
Thanks for the cache Gunks

I started this gold series a year ago and still haven't finished, which is slack given I live so close! Followed a track from the last find near the river and walked through many spider webs My husband and have spent lots of time hanging around here and it was nice to be back ... a quick find for me. We found this cache as number 12 of 12 on our Gold Diggers Warrandyte Tour Part III. Our final cache for the day following and sometimes losing the little path from the last cache. The cache was soon found however and we continued back to the car calling it quits for the day. 5 to go on one last leg and another 2 to revisit the missing caches from Part II so hopefully, we will collect all 7 on our Part IV trip. Thanks from D and HA B-A
Thirteen, that's an unlucky number isn't it ? As I looked at the map on 2upoj, I wondered how I could get to GZ but it turned out that looking at 'real life' can sometimes be more informative than simply looking at a GPSr so by following the arrow and, what's that, a path, I was soon at GZ for the quick find at 15:25.
TNLNLS, although our BYO pen geocoin had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks Gunks.

Seeing out the year with my first proper hike since before the roller coaster ride of restrictions... It's so good to be out. In all, ten klicks of trail walking for the evening.
Thanks, Gunks... had solutions for these caches straight after they were published, and have been anticipating a visit since. Well worth the wait.
---
Having finally discovered all seven Modern Wonders, I began the search for Seven Ancient Wonders.
Which, incidentally, is the name of a novel by my favourite Aussie author (and possibly favourite author full stop), Matthew Reilly. In the course of an action packed read, a team of heroes races to save the world while battling the forces of tyranny, finding the eponymous wonders (or what's left of them).
I decided that I'd log these seven finds in the same order.
The Great Pyramid at Giza:
It is perhaps the only structure on Earth known by name to every single member of the human race.
The Great Pyramid.
Its dimensions are staggering: 137 metres high, while each of its base sides is 140 metres long. With the addition of its missing Capstone - lost in antiquity - perfect symmetry would be returned and it would once again resume its original height of 140 metres and its intended shape.
It is estimated to weigh over 2 million tons, and yet, despite this unimaginable bulk, it contains within its mass the most intricate and beautiful passageways, all built with an exactness that defies belief.
It has outlasted pharaohs and kings, tribal wars and world wars, earthquakes and sandstorms.
It is the only man-made structure in history to defy the ravages of Nature and Time, and indeed the only one of the Seven Ancient Wonders known to have survived to the present day.
It is a building without equal in all of the world.

Having a lovely time with echidna44,but the showers and wet long grass and higher vegetation soon meant we were quite wet. This didn’t dampen our enthusiasm and plan to complete this Gold series Logged with permission Thanks Gunks
In need to check on this one, it was there 2 weeks ago but the stump is vanishing daily!
Out with au.fait, we decided to complete the gold series in Warrandyte even though it had been raining heavily. We ended up with wet feet and knees from the long grass and dripping trees.
We searched here for a long time, then messaged the CO. Logged with permission. Thanks Gunks.

With permission from CO and a tad late. Golden moments include locating the treasure and caches are in that category. This gal from the bush is very happy that Melbs has these splendid parks set aside within cooee of the family matriarch even if it is 36 degrees! Not too many people out and about so it’s a solo wander no interuptess and no joe Blake’s either given water and long grass. This is definitely a welcome way to explore the trails and enjoy the bush. TFTC and effort in placing it here.
I originally had no idea how I'd get to this cache, then I remembered there's such a thing as satellite view. Aaah, perfect, that's quite accessible. I was at GZ in no time and the cache was in the second place I looked.
Thanks Gunks
Thanks Gunks
I was looking for a place that would be fairly quiet and removed that I had these solved puzzles. I hadn't been here before and as such seemed like a great day to visit. Glad it was supposed to be a cool day, as I still got dam warm hiking here.
Lovely sounds in this area, both the natural environment and the bird life.
Thanks for the cache Gunks

Today had us back at Jumping Creek Reserve for our next dose of Gold. This series has been so good that we don't want them to end. We decided to have an early start and avoid the crowds.
A quick find. TFTC.

Probably the hardest one of the series to find. Not where I expected but not sure why! Thanks for the cache.
With so many potential hiding places I thought I might have to leave this to a day when I had more time. Fortunately a "I wonder what's behind this" moment paid off and I signed the log. Tftc.
Had to get in and have a good look around to find this one. Eventually, I found it by digging deep.
Last one for today and it it took quite a bit to find it. Very well hidden by possibly wombats TFTC
This was my only DNF today - not sure what I missed here. Pretty sure I was searching the correct item, but just could not find the blighter. Too good!

Annoying Tarbit and I headed out towards Warrandtye for a bush walk and hoping to find lots of gold along the way. It ended up being quite a big day in the end with all 35 Gold caches found and a few traditional caches thrown in for good measure. The best part was there were no DNFs (for a change).
Took a slightly scenic walk up to this one and ended up picking a route through the boggy ground. Was pleased to not end up with wet feet! AT was on the ball here and made the quick find. TFTC Gunks!

First time since lockdown that I arranged to meet someone else to have a day out caching. Lost_and_found_79 and I had planned some decent walking to tackle the Gold geoart series around Wonga Park. I had solved these not long after they were published but this was the first time I was able to head out and look for them. Having followed a trail of caches from where we parked we were now sweeping back to pick up others on this side of the park. A little wet underfoot her but we found a way to GZ and grabbed the cache. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables. Thanks for the puzzle, the cache and the series Gunks.
The grandkids solved these ones while being in lock up for school activity. Now it was a day to pick some up. This has bought us to an area that we have never walked before. Nice easy find. Thanks for the cache and the series Gunks, we are loving it .
The cross-country walk from Gold 20 proved easier than anticipated -- no undergrowth to scramble through here. Thank you for another nice cache!
Lovely spots near the river... the sun is shining and we are making good progress. Thanks for the hide gunks
Can’t go over it can’t go under it we have to go around the ditch! Nicely hidden thanks
One of the more remote spots with plenty of roos about. Found all the gold for today!
With another beautiful day forecast, what better way to spend it than looking for GOLD.
The path we were following to this one wasn't clearly defined but the GPS was telling us we were headed in the right direction. A kangaroo nearby seemed to be protecting the prize at GZ.
Thanks Gunks for bringing us to this magnificent area.
Chiefton!!!

We had solved this series of puzzles a few days ago and returned for our second day of searching for caches in this series. We thought that this area might be quiet and there would be little chance that we would be in contact with others. This time we headed est from the carpark. In the main the logs will be a little generic although I will note anything of interest for a given cache. Most caches we searched for were usually found quickly and the GPSRs were quite accurate.
Cross country walk to a quick find.
Thanks to Gunks for this series

Out for a nice walk around the Park - one of the few things we can still do safely. Saw no-one on the walk but lots at the car park.
Today was the third and final pass to complete the GOLD series (and a few nearby extras). I set out after lunch time from the picnic ground with the aim of picking the last 17.
I made good time, picking up #2, #3, #4, #7 and #10 relatively quickly as I had become accustomed to finding the precious nuggets. I found the clue allowing me to decode the coords for the final cache and continued on for a quick find of #14.
However, things came to a grinding halt once I hit #20. I searched for nearly 20min before finally spotting it. Coming across the "sheds" was rather unexpected as was the kangaroo skeleton on the mattress!
From here I went on to find #35 (final) - KACHING and a trackable! Along the way I crossed paths with a black snake and some giant fungi.
The next batch of #15, #13, #30 and #29 were nice and easy followed by a religious revelation at #12! Here I also think I had a quick chat to the telefreaks family who I suspect may have just signed the log a few minutes before I arrived, the first sign I'd seen of other cachers out and about for the day.
A deviation from the series led me to find the nearby Mercator's Ghost followed by #26, which took me much longer than average and then finished onto #25 after which my handheld GPS's battery died and then a quick find of the last one of the day, #21.
It was then a short walk back to the picnic ground and my mouth was watering after passing a few young blokes roasting a large cut of beef on a spit.
All in all, another fantastic afternoon hiking around the Warrandyte state park and completing the wonderful GOLD series. Thanks Gunks I loved the ingots!

Starting off at 9am this was a great day to clean up some more caches in this series. Jules6 and I made our way along the undulating paths easily, until later in the day, when the sun warmed up and the hills started to take their toll. I was pleased to make it back to the comfort of my car's A/C having completed our haul of 12 gold caches for the day. Thanks Gunks
It took us too long to find this one! For some reason we didn't look close enough in this obvious spot.

After finding Gold 14 , we headed down the hill to this cache . It was a nice change in scenery from dense bush land to open fields . Thanks Gunks
Wow, what a great day. Knocked off all 35 of this series on foot (well mostly, I moved the car twice). Arrived at around 10 for the first lot (the souther ones) and enjoyed a walk around that area. Back at the car I drove to the next lot and parked in a tight spot. Thats when I noticed a familiar licence plate and messaged the owner (Rebel Acts) who was indeed out with Omegaman finding some in this area. My faster walking pace saw me catch up to them eventually and we enjoyed some caching together, before they ran out of caches and I had one to grab still in this area. So, jogging my way to the one I needed still I was still able to find it and meet them back at the car park before car move number 2.
Grabbing a few other caches we met some other cachers on the trails, it certainly was a great day for it. RA & OM and I enjoyed finding some caches, albeit it was a little slower than I am used to, but it was nice to have some company. Unfortunately at one stage OM had to retire hurt, but RA continued on with me until the very end, although the pace was getting slower, I still managed to nab every one of them in the day. Very happy with that achievement.
Messaging my usual caching companion on my way home, she was a little bored so I dropped by her place and we went out and found 7 more before calling it a day, so one big day out caching for me. Thanks for all the caches, all found with great co ordinates and all log books in excellent condition. A great series of caches. TFTC!

I was on leave so I messaged Omegaman1971 to see if he wanted to go caching, I had to head to the area to take My Mum home so We decided to continue searching the hills for gold, we were soon joined by Day1976 who was in the area, I managed to get all but one finished today, I have to say the legs were real sore by the end. We also came across Spiffy and Flebag on there extreme bikes. I appreciate the effort made with this series.
Thanks Gunks for the cache.

Found at 11:50 am.
When these were all published I was way down on the Flinders foreshore at a CITO event but had a quick look and worked out mostly what was required but put them on the backburner for a little while since I was no chance for any first to finds. A few days later though I had them all solved and was ready for a road trip.
So today with the weather cloudy and cool we headed out with both the bikes on the back of the ute and the last speed bump into the main car park caused one of the bikes to nearly fall off but all good after that.
We rode around and collected the whole series in one go today and once I got back to the car the bike only had 6% battery left from all those hills and super tight hilly tracks draining the life out of it. The iPhone 11 fared much better, it still had 50% battery left.
At the end of the ride with a lot of scratches and one bull ant bite it was a very fun and satifying trip. A couple of them were quite tricky to ride within 25-30m or so but we managed it ... you have to maximise your laziness to override the lack of fitness you see.
At one point we met Rebel Acts, Omegaman1971 & day1976 on our travels but never saw them again after that. We started at the north end first and they started at the south. Just a tip for future players ... start south, you will work out why later. Wasn't a huge drama but we had a couple of extra rides to do backtracking over already covered territory by starting north.
An awesome series with an lot of effort put in to all those containers and hides.
Thanks Gunks for the caches, the puzzles, the hunts and a really fun day out.

I lived in East Doncaster very close to Warrandyte for 26 years and even went to Warrandyte High school. But back then Geocaching was non existent and I didn't explore the area very much. The Warrandyte tunnel is always an interesting place to visit and now I am also chasing gold in the town.
Geobuddy Spiffy- and I had this series, plus another random cache in this area. With no real plan on how to best tackle these we took our Stealth Electric bikes and off we went. The hils sure sucked down the battery and some fallen trees and steps made for a tough terrain, but all in all we found lots of "Gold".
The effort on the containers was brilliant - very much appreciated. I did get caught out a bit when putting the log book "container" back into the cammo only to have it fall back out the other end.

Seventh of nine caches on our list this morning. We have been near most of the other locations on this mornings loop but not off-track in this locale. We expected thicker bush around Gz but the way in was quite easy. Thanks heaps for bringing us back to this neck of the woods.

Chipping away at the gold in the area, mining our way towards a complete treasure chest. Today was on bike. Some trails easy, some a little tricky. A bit of bush-bashing too. Apologies for the copy-paste logs, but I’m getting too far behind with logs.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, Gunks

This proved tricky to get to, with no clear path, there was some bush bashing and prickle avoiding.

I came across this collection of caches on Sunday whilst zooming around the map I spotted some geo art that wasn't there before. I quickly worked out what needed to be worked out and had them all ready to be collected. The geokid had a day off school so we took this opportunity to pick some of them up. We loved the concept of this hide. TFTC and this series Gunks.

Unfortunately after my first luck find I discovered all others I visited were signed but not logged but was a wonderful walk all the same and I will be back at more respectable hours to explore the area more
Thanks Gunks for the cache.

Them gold in these hills.
The bananas were attempting to purge the area of all gold, either left behind by the early explorers or Gunks. And we were winning handsomely.
Recently a new phone was acquired. Great GPS and fast with a battery that will last all day with some remaining. A few apps are installed, but surprisingly no Gold Detector.
Many years ago, on a previous adventure to this park, a prospector was discovered digging until a Park Ranger shut him down.
That prospector should have bought a good phone and come today. With success he could both paid for his phone and park fines with one day of work.
But he didn't.
Anyway the bananas cleaned up.
