This is such an excellent, well-maintained series. Quality.I'd solved this series years ago but never found the right day to spend some time walking around the Warrandyte State Park. Well today was the day . . . a day off for Anzac Day, 25 April. I'm trying to find 250 caches on the 25th of the month for a challenge (https://coord.info/GCA000R) so I couldn't resist doing a third of this series on a lovely 3 hour bushwalk in the afternoon. We'd spend the morning at the Upwey/Belgrave RSL Service. Two of the kids were in the guard of honour for the parade as members of the Upwey CFA brigade. The other was in the parade representing the Upwey/Tecoma footy club. Zeus could've marched as he was an officer in the NZ Army about 20 years ago. It was a really special morning.
#1433 - Spent a very hot morning in some abnormal early Spring heat starting off the GOLD series with a nice hike. Tftc
This is GOLD! [^]
This series first came to our attention when we were chasing caches placed on any Christmas Day. We solved and found the few we needed for that challenge. Ever since then, this entire Geoart (including those not placed on 25th December) had been on a list of mine I named "Christmas Gold". [^]
Today catnap777 and I set out to find as much "Christmas Gold" as we could, and totally amazed ourselves by visiting them all and signing all bar one DNF and the three caches we found last time.
This was probably our longest hike together and now we are feeling like we can do anything.
TFTC&Series Gunks.
A golden opportunity to test our metal.

Puzzle solved and cache found with dalerious .
Signed log at 1215hrs.
We had a big day planned, and we were doing the lot, yes the entire series on foot. All but 3 which we signed on another trip.
An awesome series Gunks, and the majority of caches were found in excellent condition. We replaced the log paper and plastic bag in 2, and 1 was a dnf.
We had two things on our mind for this weekend, Gold and Cachemas caches.
Firstly, we were off to Warrandyte searching for Au, and I am so excited to say that we walked the entire park, and we signed all but one of the series. We even added a couple of other caches that were positioned around the area that we were hiking.
My knee has issues but I am built of sturdy stuff and made the entire walk from begging to end in the one day .
That was the Saturday. On the Sunday we concentrated on the Cachemas caches, picking off the ones that were in the vicinity of where we were staying. One ahomburg challenge cache was situated in an area that required quite a steep ascent.
We enjoyed a very successful weekend of caching, and thank all the CO's that have been busy placing out so many caches for us to find. There were some truly remarkable caches placed out .

I think I was getting a bit keen to get back to the car and walked 200m passed GZ! Oh well, a few extra steps for the day. The cache was found after checking all the other logs first - again!
Decided to go after this series today which we did by bike. Must say some of the narrow steep trails were a bit of a challenge on the bike but we succeeded mostly.
Thanks Gunks
Thanks Gunks
After doing some maintenance work on the back verandah this morning, we had to wait for the paint to dry, so we grabbed the deadly treadlies, and with Chewinprickles we rode some of the Gold series.
A beautiful day and nice trails although some were a bit challenging on the bikes, but a lovely ride with very few muggles spotted.
We will return for the last third and the finals.
Nice to see that a lot of maintenance has been done on this series.
Thanks for this series, Robmc.

After the frustration of previous find, it was lovely to walk up to gz and find cache by poking the nearest log and cache pops out. Sigh of relief. Magnificent mob of kangaroos chilling out nearby
After the last frustrating find this one was a nice and easy one while being watched by the kangas .. and with the kookaburra corous in the background.
We went panning at Sovereign Hill this year, and this time I wasn't hopeless at it - I could get flecks and even those flecks were heavy and shiny. I got some sense of the thrill. Thanks Gunks for this series.
Found on our way back to the car park after finding the final in this series. Thanks
Third trip out this way finding nuggets. Didn't spot a single other person while frolicking about enjoying the stunning green plains.
First off just wanted to say congrats to this cache series for being a finalist for the 2020/2021 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards!
I am very keen on trying to find as many of the finalists for these awards as I can. So came out here today to try and work on this series!
This was my second trip out to Warrandyte State Park. I ended up finding #1 in the series back in April when I was working on the "Mystery Cache Monthly Challenge" (GC5MTHY).
The Warrandyte State Park is just absolutely gorgeous, and after a long stressful day at work, was exactly what I needed tonight to be refreshed.
I think I started figuring out the CO's hiding style for this series as I ended up making this find fairly quickly. This one was my 6th find for the day, and my 7th find in the series.
Thanks for all the fun tonight and TFTC.
Cache Maintenance Status:
The container was in good shape and the logbook was clean and dry, with plenty of room for future cache finders to sign.

The last cache of the series for me as I headed back to the car at the picnic area. I saw a tell tale sign and found the cache. This was my 11th cache for the day so I was glad a quick find here. Thanks Gunks, great series.

A nice easy one after the previous disappointment, though not as satisfying!
Lunchtime, but not before we find this cache, which we did. It was nice to take a break, eat something, watch the kangaroos watching us and just taking in our surroundings. This sure is a beautiful park.
Another one done & dusted, with our tummies satisfied, it was now back to finding us some more Gold.
Cheers Gunks. Excellent series.

After sitting at the top of the hill to eat our lunch, while admiring the beautiful view, Knight_shift and I started on our way down to the river again. To me, this is the nicest part of the park, with the open grasslands, and kangaroos who were not disturbed by our presence, as we walked past them.
Another quick find and we kept on trekking.
Thanks Gunks.

Our point of no return.
Getting to here meant knocking off the rest near here before dark. A real challenge considering one is seemingly hard to get to.

Yesterday I was heading out to try and complete this series after starting it back in February but after getting sidetrack, I ran out of time so I have returned today to try my luck.
Some of the trails were done by bike but most was done on foot, it was a great day out covering a big area on a few different grades of tracks.
The last one as I was heading back to the car apart from the DNF earlier in the day, this one was found without any trouble.
**Thanks to Gunks for placing this cache.**

In my quest to complete ** The Non-Traditional Calendar Challenge **, I came here today to find #13 in the series. Although I then usually leave and come back another day for another cache, today I decided to break that mold! After successfully find #13, I trekked across country and came looking for this one. As usual, it was a quick and easy find.
Thanks **Gunks** for the cache and the series.

Out caching with Echidna44, I took the opportunity to find some of the gold series that I had solved. Echidna had already done this series, so I skipped on ahead to sniff the caches out, and she ambled along behind. All caches were found quickly and easily in the expected locations. An excellent series in a beautiful location.
Accompanied with silence49, we had a great time finding your cache Gunks, thank you so much for placing it.

Find #11694
Out this Melbourne Cup day with SedgwickDave. Purpose of today's visit was a small shakedown hike getting ready for a 2 week section of the Australian Alps Walking Track later this month.
This series of puzzles had been solved many moons ago. It was a warm 30 degree day and the car park was overflowing with cars parked several hundred metres along the road.
Great spot with a bit of a view.
Thanks to Gunks for the cache.
Big things are continuing to happen! *Are you joining the fun again in 2022?*

Why is it that the caches closest to home seem to be the last ones that you look for. Had the chance to go for a stroll today and find some of this series with a couple of previous finders. Took a while for GZ to settle but our guides were all over the correct location. Thank you for all that has gone into placing and maintaining this series is a great reserve.
TFTC, another gold down but didn't find 20. I've lived in the greater Diamond Valley but never been in here before. I wonder when the farm land was resumed for the park, the buildings are not that old.
#2020 - 12pm
I was out and about with Heymissjo today.
My reasons were threefold...
1) She is a bit awesome, so I like to hang out with her. True story!
2) The giant storm earlier in the week had left our home without any power or heating. Not exactly the kind of kid-free long weekend paradise we'd been long anticipating. It was cold, dark and did I say 'cold'.
3) a new cache was released just a few kilometers from home, in an area where we had some unfinished Gold business.
So really, we had no choice but to head out and hike by the swollen Yarra today. Indeed, the path towards GZ was actually under the Yarra at one point!
But...
We broke a golden rule of hounding.
You see, one does not simply stop to pick up other caches while en route to a First to Find.
That is unless it's a Gunks cache (and there's some momentary miscommunication within the team -- "Oh, so you're telling me you HAVEN'T found this one before?!")
We hadn't actually meant to stop here but we're so glad we did.
Thanks, Gunks.
This was an unexpected pleasure in a gorgeous, verdant part of the world. 2020 has been challenging for so many, but this was the best way I can think of to mark my 2020.

Third night of no power and heating… kid free weekend. Grrrr time to get up and out and get some gunks caches. The house is too cold and miserable. Awesome walk out here, but amazing to see how high the river flows after all the rain and flooding. The Welder and I are enjoying visiting another remote area so close to home… you gotta love caching for that!

After a week of lockdown, and feeling pretty fed up, we used the extension of permitted exercise to 10km as an excuse to come here and find some 'gold'. These are roughly 6km away for us so we were unable to walk here during the previous lockdowns. We solved all of the puzzles during the first lockdown last year, and collected 12 of them in between lockdowns. After that, it was hard for us to get to this area because of the roadworks on Jumping Creek Rd. Today though, we were here and I'm so glad we came. This is my favourite of the three places we have been so far for 'gold'. Continuing along the track we found this one. Lots of kangaroos watching from a distance in the clearing but they didn't seem bothered by us. Thanks for placing and maintaining this series Gunks. This is the seventh for us today and the 19th overall. 16 to go and looking forward to seeing what follows.
Here I am back in one of my favourite state parks, to do a bit more of this gold series. What a beautiful wintry sunny day it is. Feels good to be alive.
Found my first gold for the day.

I started this gold series a year ago and still haven't finished, which is slack given I live so close! Headed out this morning to find a few more ... such a great, quiet part of the park, just me and the roos! many spots to look but made the find pretty quick. TFTC
We found this cache as number 8 of 12 on our Gold Diggers Warrandyte Tour Part III. We were interested to see a large house and a number of good views on the way to this cache.. Thanks from D and HA B-A
Despite having completed the series, I still had to 'complete' the series. This was the one that would do it and with the find at 16:00, some 192¼ hours after my first golden find, and which also marked our 750th Mystery/Unknown find , I finally finished what I think might be my first ever completed geo-art series. Gosh.
As with that first find last week (you know, last year ), I'm allocating a fave point to bookend it all.
Congratulations on a magnificent effort Gunks.
TNLNSL, although a couple of our geocoins had a visit to mark the occasion. Many, many thanks for a great journey and a fantastic series Gunks.

Seeing out the year with my first proper hike since before the roller coaster ride of restrictions... It's so good to be out. In all, ten klicks of trail walking for the evening.
Thanks, Gunks... had solutions for these caches straight after they were published, and have been anticipating a visit since. Well worth the wait.
---
Having finally discovered all seven Modern Wonders, I began the search for Seven Ancient Wonders.
Which, incidentally, is the name of a novel by my favourite Aussie author (and possibly favourite author full stop), Matthew Reilly. In the course of an action packed read, a team of heroes races to save the world while battling the forces of tyranny, finding the eponymous wonders (or what's left of them).
I decided that I'd log these seven finds in the same order.
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon:
NEBUCHADNEZZAR'S PARADISE
Of all the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, none retains more mystery than the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
There is a simple reason for this.
Of all the Wonders, only one has never been found: the Hanging Gardens. Not a single trace of them has been unearthed: no foun dations, no pillars, not even an aqueduct.

Bingo bango! It’s GOLD of course. Can I forget? Also, YAPIDKA! Such a patch work park system. A few missions for the day include running - gotta get some fitness back and do enjoy exploring these parks. So this clutch of caches a bonus, partly so I can run rest run rest etc etc! Each GZ has been very accurate and along with the hint I had plenty of bingo bango moments. Melbs on care duty and luckily it’s close by so given it’s an almost sunny but cold summer day, the park beckons. Great spot. TFTC
Having a lovely time with echidna44,but the showers and wet long grass and higher vegetation soon meant we were quite wet. This didn’t dampen our enthusiasm and plan to complete this Gold series Struck gold here Thanks Gunks
Out with au.fait, we decided to complete the gold series in Warrandyte even though it had been raining heavily. We ended up with wet feet and knees from the long grass and dripping trees.
A quick find, great views. Thanks Gunks.

It's 33 degrees right now, hotter than I like but not terrible. This time I headed straight to the cache, then sat down for a sip of water and got the Bushmans out - the flies are massive here!
Thanks
Thanks
I was looking for a place that would be fairly quiet and removed that I had these solved puzzles. I hadn't been here before and as such seemed like a great day to visit. Glad it was supposed to be a cool day, as I still got dam warm hiking here.
Lots of large kangaroos enjoying this area and I found a small skink in the gz hide, which only showed himself as I was returning the container
Thanks for the cache Gunks

Today had us back at Jumping Creek Reserve for our next dose of Gold. This series has been so good that we don't want them to end. We decided to have an early start and avoid the crowds.
A quick find. TFTC.

Quick find on cup day. Though the picnic area is packed there is no one in this part of the park. Thanks.
Another in the Gold series found on a wonderful day. Birds seen included Yellow-faced honeyeaters, Eastern rosellas and Grey fantails. Now running out of time and will pick up the other two caches on another day. Tftc.
My second find today after being allowed to travel 25km from home as Covid lockdown restrictions are eased. Such a great area, no one around except for the Roos TFTC
Our first time doing the Mystery Cache. We came in real hot thinking we were going to get all 35 in one day. Started off really well, 10 caches in 2 hours. But i forgot to add some waypoints into the GPS which threw us off our groove.
GOLD #20 took us a solid 30 minutes before giving up and sending a message to Gunks. A quick reply saved the day along with Fleabags entry. The hint helps too, makes sense when you think about it.
Managed to get 13 today but we will be back for the rest soon enough. A great walk in a beautiful area. We had no idea that this area was so close to home.
Thanks Gunks.

I haven't been out caching in AGES - its been about 5 months I think, but today was the day to get out there and find this series that was solved a while ago. It was a beautiful day today and I thoroughly enjoyed walking around this beautiful area - so good that it is now filled with this great series Thanks to gunks for creating these caches - so much work, thought and creativity has gone into this, and I massively appreciate it - I had such a great day. I was aiming to complete the series in 1 day but I ran out of sunlight, Ill be back soon to finish it off This series gets a massive fave from me and will get my vote for best series in the next Cache of the Year Awards. Annoying Tarbit and I headed out towards Warrandtye for a bush walk and hoping to find lots of gold along the way. It ended up being quite a big day in the end with all 35 Gold caches found and a few traditional caches thrown in for good measure. The best part was there were no DNFs (for a change).
The area near GZ had really opened out and there were a few kangaroos just off the main path. They must have wondered what we were doing as we started looking for the cache. Another straightforward find here. TFTC Gunks

First time since lockdown that I arranged to meet someone else to have a day out caching. Lost_and_found_79 and I had planned some decent walking to tackle the Gold geoart series around Wonga Park. I had solved these not long after they were published but this was the first time I was able to head out and look for them. After parking up we hit the trails and this was a nice section to walk along. After passing some roos lazing on the hillside we made the find here. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables. Thanks for the puzzle, the cache and the series Gunks.
The grandkids solved these ones while being in lock up for school activity. Now it was a day to pick some up. This has bought us to an area that we have never walked before. Nice easy find. Thanks for the cache and the series Gunks, we are loving it .
Another quick find while we stopped for a snack making our way around the trail. Thanks for the hides
Nice quick find not far on the trail.. not sure why there is a clearing here but good to see the sunshine and have some fruit to eat. Thanks
Handy clue, but plenty of them nearby. Eventually found the one we needed. On to the next!
With another beautiful day forecast, what better way to spend it than looking for GOLD.
Another nugget was found quite quickly here.
Thanks Gunks for bringing us to this magnificent area.
Chiefton!!!

We had solved this series of puzzles a few days ago and returned for our second day of searching for caches in this series. We thought that this area might be quiet and there would be little chance that we would be in contact with others. This time we headed est from the carpark. In the main the logs will be a little generic although I will note anything of interest for a given cache. Most caches we searched for were usually found quickly and the GPSRs were quite accurate.
Thanks to Gunks for this series

Out for a nice walk around the Park - one of the few things we can still do safely. Saw no-one on the walk but lots at the car park.
Of course I went to the wrong end. 5 minutes ago GeowifeE commented that we hadn't seen any kangaroos or wallabies. Whadya know it, now there's heaps.
Today was the third and final pass to complete the GOLD series (and a few nearby extras). I set out after lunch time from the picnic ground with the aim of picking the last 17.
I made good time, picking up #2, #3, #4, #7 and #10 relatively quickly as I had become accustomed to finding the precious nuggets. I found the clue allowing me to decode the coords for the final cache and continued on for a quick find of #14.
However, things came to a grinding halt once I hit #20. I searched for nearly 20min before finally spotting it. Coming across the "sheds" was rather unexpected as was the kangaroo skeleton on the mattress!
From here I went on to find #35 (final) - KACHING and a trackable! Along the way I crossed paths with a black snake and some giant fungi.
The next batch of #15, #13, #30 and #29 were nice and easy followed by a religious revelation at #12! Here I also think I had a quick chat to the telefreaks family who I suspect may have just signed the log a few minutes before I arrived, the first sign I'd seen of other cachers out and about for the day.
A deviation from the series led me to find the nearby Mercator's Ghost followed by #26, which took me much longer than average and then finished onto #25 after which my handheld GPS's battery died and then a quick find of the last one of the day, #21.
It was then a short walk back to the picnic ground and my mouth was watering after passing a few young blokes roasting a large cut of beef on a spit.
All in all, another fantastic afternoon hiking around the Warrandyte state park and completing the wonderful GOLD series. Thanks Gunks I loved the ingots!

Starting off at 9am this was a great day to clean up some more caches in this series. Jules6 and I made our way along the undulating paths easily, until later in the day, when the sun warmed up and the hills started to take their toll. I was pleased to make it back to the comfort of my car's A/C having completed our haul of 12 gold caches for the day. Thanks Gunks
Back again with BonnyBlack to continue the Gold series . Found it easily now onto the next. Thanks Gunks .
Wow, what a great day. Knocked off all 35 of this series on foot (well mostly, I moved the car twice). Arrived at around 10 for the first lot (the souther ones) and enjoyed a walk around that area. Back at the car I drove to the next lot and parked in a tight spot. Thats when I noticed a familiar licence plate and messaged the owner (Rebel Acts) who was indeed out with Omegaman finding some in this area. My faster walking pace saw me catch up to them eventually and we enjoyed some caching together, before they ran out of caches and I had one to grab still in this area. So, jogging my way to the one I needed still I was still able to find it and meet them back at the car park before car move number 2.
Grabbing a few other caches we met some other cachers on the trails, it certainly was a great day for it. RA & OM and I enjoyed finding some caches, albeit it was a little slower than I am used to, but it was nice to have some company. Unfortunately at one stage OM had to retire hurt, but RA continued on with me until the very end, although the pace was getting slower, I still managed to nab every one of them in the day. Very happy with that achievement.
Messaging my usual caching companion on my way home, she was a little bored so I dropped by her place and we went out and found 7 more before calling it a day, so one big day out caching for me. Thanks for all the caches, all found with great co ordinates and all log books in excellent condition. A great series of caches. TFTC!

I was on leave so I messaged Omegaman1971 to see if he wanted to go caching, I had to head to the area to take My Mum home so We decided to continue searching the hills for gold, we were soon joined by Day1976 who was in the area, I managed to get all but one finished today, I have to say the legs were real sore by the end. We also came across Spiffy and Flebag on there extreme bikes. I appreciate the effort made with this series.
Thanks Gunks for the cache.

When these were all published I was way down on the Flinders foreshore at a CITO event but had a quick look and worked out mostly what was required but put them on the backburner for a little while since I was no chance for any first to finds. A few days later though I had them all solved and was ready for a road trip.
So today with the weather cloudy and cool we headed out with both the bikes on the back of the ute and the last speed bump into the main car park caused one of the bikes to nearly fall off but all good after that.
We rode around and collected the whole series in one go today and once I got back to the car the bike only had 6% battery left from all those hills and super tight hilly tracks draining the life out of it. The iPhone 11 fared much better, it still had 50% battery left.
At the end of the ride with a lot of scratches and one bull ant bite it was a very fun and satifying trip. A couple of them were quite tricky to ride within 25-30m or so but we managed it ... you have to maximise your laziness to override the lack of fitness you see.
At one point we met Rebel Acts, Omegaman1971 & day1976 on our travels but never saw them again after that. We started at the north end first and they started at the south. Just a tip for future players ... start south, you will work out why later. Wasn't a huge drama but we had a couple of extra rides to do backtracking over already covered territory by starting north.
An awesome series with an lot of effort put in to all those containers and hides.
Thanks Gunks for the caches, the puzzles, the hunts and a really fun day out.

I lived in East Doncaster very close to Warrandyte for 26 years and even went to Warrandyte High school. But back then Geocaching was non existent and I didn't explore the area very much. The Warrandyte tunnel is always an interesting place to visit and now I am also chasing gold in the town.
Geobuddy Spiffy- and I had this series, plus another random cache in this area. With no real plan on how to best tackle these we took our Stealth Electric bikes and off we went. The hils sure sucked down the battery and some fallen trees and steps made for a tough terrain, but all in all we found lots of "Gold".
This was a great series with great effort put into it. We found all caches without much trouble and the hides were awesome for the cammo's. Appreciate greatly the effort.

Out and about caching with Rebel Acts and trying to find more gold in the Warrandyte hills.
After finding the first few we were joined by day1976 who continued his quest with us.
Had an awesome day full of laughs and caching chats.
Love this part of the world.
Cheers Gunks for the series.

Chipping away at the gold in the area, mining our way towards a complete treasure chest. Today was on bike. Some trails easy, some a little tricky. A bit of bush-bashing too. Apologies for the copy-paste logs, but I’m getting too far behind with logs.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, Gunks

A good section to get some speed up on the bikes, then navigating around the huge spider web to the cache.
Thanks Gunks for GOLD #14

I came across this collection of caches on Sunday whilst zooming around the map I spotted some geo art that wasn't there before. I quickly worked out what needed to be worked out and had them all ready to be collected. The geokid had a day off school so we took this opportunity to pick some of them up. TFTC and this series Gunks.

Unfortunately after my first luck find I discovered all others I visited were signed but not logged but was a wonderful walk all the same and I will be back at more respectable hours to explore the area more
Thanks Gunks for the cache.

Bounding kangaroos greeted us as we neared the cach. Almost missed the spider webs guarding the cache. TFTC.
"I think that is the wrong log."
That is what B1 said as yet another snake came out to see what the bananas were up to. Obviously it had been asleep in the warming sun when it was disturbed from its slumber. Fortunately this snake directed us to look further.
Finding the right log again more bullion was found.
One of the first times the bananas visited this area was by kayak. Expecting to enter just above Bend of Isles and after a short paddled leave the water in this reserve. Well things went so enjoyably well that the exit was overshot and after an hour of bushbashing with young ones, our saviours returned us to our car. Mum was never told about our misadventures.
Since then a fire has been through the place and much of the undergrowth has disappeared. Now many years later, particularly with GPS this is now an easy and pleasurable place to navigate through.
Today, full advantage would be taken.
