Great Northern escape 2022 Day 100. Bowen day 1. Today was a day of ups and downs. I went of a few nice walks, I found some well hidden caches and I chased my tail for a few DNFs that always leaves a sour taste. I am staying by the highway, but the resorts by the bay look fantastic, maybe one day I will feel justified staying at one.
hmmm, I am not sure what to say about this one. I did my usual trick of not reading anything until I was lost at GZ. what, all the way back up again !!! I passed that spot on the way down. Oh well, up I went. Then, to rub salt into the wound, I could not find it !! This one needs fixing and checking. A pity really, the proper GZ is a nice spot and well worth a visit.
Thanks.

It seems someone has thrown this into the bush below, aside from the coordinates being out.
Found quickly when saw and navigated to the corrected coordinates.

Got a bit bushed trying to find the way to the cache and then decided to check the other cachers logs and found the coords were nearly 100 metres out
Used other cachers coords and found OK
Next cachers use these coords

E 148 15.730
Should get you there
Please fix as soon as possible or archive

There is unanswered Needs Maintenance from 2020 and 2021
Coordinates are almost 100 metres out and need to be updated to:
**S 19° 58.853 E 148° 15.730**
Too many people are wasting time looking at the posted coordinates and logging DNF"s before realising which isn't fair on them
Thanks

This one was nowhere near the coordinates but we found it using picture clues from people before us. It was a good fun climb and the wind was a challenge!
**This Cache:**
Well, lucky I read the coordinates in the log, as this cache is 100m away from it's coordinates. It would be impossible to find without reading the logs, and I am shocked this cache has stayed this way for 2+ years now. It really should be fixed or archived, well done to the FTF who managed to locate a cache 100m out.
Thanks for the cache anyway, I was glad to have found it with the new coordinates, although it was just sitting out in the open and lots of muggles have been signing it

**Today:**
Day 17 of my road trip, now heading back to Canberra from the Townsville Mega Event!
I left Townsville this morning, didn't have a plan of how far I was going to go but I only made it to Mackay. This was mostly due to the rain, which meant camping was off the cards so I had to pull up shorter than expected. I also didn't get moving until about 8:30am, and wanted to pick up just a couple caches in the "Saint" series before I left, as I never had time to do it! I got soaked, but luckily the rain only started when I was halfway through the ones I had hand-picked from the bunch.
Despite the wet weather I managed to find all the caches along the route that I wanted, including some extra ones in Mackay that weren't even on my list but the rain slowed down and they looked like they could be fun, which they were!
Thanks to all the CO's! Ended my day with my final cache find a little after 8pm!

A beautiful walk to the lookout and then we did a side track to find this one.
Using the coordinates that have been provided by others, we made a quick find on this one. After signing the log we sat to enjoy the wonderful view.
Thanks

Found it but not with the co ordinates. Log wet so hard to write in it. Great hiding place.
After about 30min of looking couldn't find it, even with the notes that other people left.
Came down here for a birthday and saw this near where we where staying.
Went down this path and stood on top of it not knowing what it was.
Decided cords were wrong and followed description to find.
Cords need to be fixed ASAP

Headed out to find this one today, along with a nearby earthcache. For some reason, it appears we read the coordinates and information 'not quite right'. After quite a trek (very much in the wrong direction & well and truly 'beyond' haha!), we realised our mistake, though didn't quite have the energy to retrace our steps at this point, and had our 'substantially older muggle friend' with us, and didn't want to put her through this. So, we changed plans, and headed off over the rocks to Murray Bay.
We will need to collect this one next time we are in town. Thanks for bringing us here!

Glad I went through the notes to see that I was nearly sitting on the hide. This was where my instinct said to go when I turned right but then I looked and I was quite some distance away by the phone. Anyway all is good here with this one. Thanks for the hide
Tried from the top but the track was over grown so tried from the bottom. So many rocks I couldn’t choose. Grass is well over grown. No luck
Classic stitch up. Found it in the end. Not at posted coordinates. Follow track to right and read comments to assist. TFTC.
We got it! App indicates being 100m NE from here but we followed the instructions and eventually found it. Great swaps!
We've moved our caravan from Mackay to Bowen, and are looking forward to finding all the caches in the local area. Today we were on a mission, with PurpleParrot89 to bag a particular FTF, and of course we also had to log the caches we passed along the way.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found this cache some distance from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny

Found it thanks to the comments. Really nice spot. Tonight's full moon looks amazing from here!
We searched high and low, even beyond of where we thought it to be. No luck this day with my geo friend @hatte.
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
Had a blast finding this one... coordinates a little off in the app but thanks for the previous helpers to find it.

Visiting in Bowen and decided to have a look and hat was around! I was already at the lookout so didn't have far to go for this one
I had success with these co-ordinates
S 19° 58.853 E 148° 15.730
The listed ones are wrong!
Otherwise, very cute cache, thanks!

Found with stairman1. This was quite a hard one to get. The walk to the top was pleasant. It was muddy in some places. There were a few muggles. After looking at the views we decided to head down to go. We started picking our way through the rocks and trees. This is where I decided to stay at the top. Stairman1 headed off and I enjoyed the views. After half an hour he decided to call it quits. While having lunch stairman1 read the previous logs and decided to try again. He finally tracked it down. He is happy now. TFTH
Well FFS. I have just spent over 40 minutes searching all over GZ. Eventually goldielover calls me and informed me the cache maybe missing. I made a quick dash down to the beach only 40 metres away and met up with goldielover again. We went and ordered some lunch nearby and I read some logs. Ok the co ords are out. That explains a bit. I punch the ones from previous logs in. Wow that's some distance from where I was looking. Almost 100 metres. That is some serious correction needed.
I decided while waiting for our lunch I would make another quick dash up to the look out. Took a bit but soon had the cache in my hand.
TFTC
Have placed a photo here that if your view matches you should have the cache ver soon.

Great little location. TFTC. Love the views. Got some great travel pics. Did a swap.
Driving to Bowen and actually inviting burgo for once rather than being the other way around.
Despite not caching for a while I was able to come up with most of today's finds.
Nice walk.
Thanks

Visiting Bowen to pick up a Ute tub liner for BlackPearl26 so it would be rude not to clear out the remaining hides.
Enjoyed the walk and the view here and spotted the hide instantly.

The name of this cache had me scratchin' me 'ead as I strolled along the beach to GZ
Close to GZ I stopped to read the notes,
it sometimes helps
Oh !! [:o]
A good stroll up the hill later,
and I was beyond the top
There was also a cache hidden just out of reach
A stick did the trick,
and the logbook was signed
TFTC ...
... and please will someone change the posted coords !!?? [:o]

Light blue tin! Definitely don't follow the "official" coordinates. Great spot.

TFTC well just do not follow the app to find this as the coordinates are about 100m off and you’ll be scrambling through the bush.

Not too hard of a find. Took a little bit. Thanks for the trip up to the lookout.
Tried this from the bottom but soon realised this was not right. Took the trail up and used the coords mentioned by previous loggers. Thanks
Thought the coordination point is still 100mts away apparently we found it. Picked up a travel bug to help it on its way.
Found withorth71 on a trip from Townsville to Bowen.

Bowen Day 3
An early morning start to avoid the heat, although we had a lovely cool ocean breeze today.
Caching today with the Snakepitters.
Our 1st stop was the markets along the foreshore. We then continued caching around the coastline which ment some spectacular ocean views & beachside walks.
Found a closer co-ord in a previous log.
Thanks for placing this amazing series gg_smiley_88

Was short on time here. Followed the instructions and after visiting the lookout I ventured right down the path. I bush bashed to the listed coordinates, only to realise that they are very inaccurate and I had probably almost walked over the cache on the way here.
I did not have the time to return and make the find
From previous logs : correct coordinates are S 19 58.853 E 148 15.730

After a lot of discussion and a little confusion, found with Tinkster23. Thanks for the fun find.
18/3/20 Tried finding this morning. Warning do not take the path directly at the bottom of the ramp to the right as this is totally wrong and wastes a lot of your time. Came back tonight and tool the right turn which is a lot wider and found cache at listed co ordinates as people have mentioned in previoys logs. Fun was had. Thanks fir the cache. SL TNLN
Stayed overnight at horseshoe bay. Took a walk in the morning and the sun was already burning. The mosquitos had their morning hunt.
Thanks for the cache! Found at perfect alternative coords as previous cachers has suggested.

Leaving Sweden in the beginning of January, passning Singapore on the way to Australia. Then visiting NZ before flying back home via Dubai. A trip of almost three months. Fantastic scenery and nice people along the road.

This morning we decided to go and have another look for this cache after we had read through the logs and saw that Rainforest Cookie had posted a set of co-ords where she had found the cache.
Today we used these co-ords, S 19 58.853 E 148 15.730, and found the cache without any issues. In fact, yesterday we had walked past the cache in our efforts to try and find a path to the listed co-ords.

We are not calling this cache a DNF as we were unable to find the track to GZ. Since we have come back to where we are staying and reading logs and looking at the map more closely we will have to wait until our next trip back to Bowen to have another look for this cache.
A big shout out to Braden, Hailey and Parker for placing this hide here. A top spot and fantastic view. TFTC and keep up the great work gg_smiley_88
On our 2020 Aussie Day Geocaching Weekend we headed to Bowen on this wet summers day. Although it was still raining we thought this short walk would be okay to do with the weather. However we were surprised at what was ahead of us. From the start heading up the track it was it was more of a waterfall then a walking trail. Still positive it wouldn’t take too long we continued up the water way in our best Aussie Day geo pluggers. The further we went up the great the distance to GZ was getting. We continued to wade through the water track until we finally changed direction and metres finally started to decrease. Phew we were heading the right way. Finally getting to where we thought hide was from what we had read in the description we referred to our Geotracker only to find our coordinates appeared to be way off. A little confused we reread the description and then referred to previous logs to assist us with a closer coordinate. A thorough search located the cache and a quick sign in the rain allowed us to negotiate the steep ramp in slippery conditions for some happy snaps of the lovely views. Heading back was a lot easier as we were now travelling with the flow of water. Thanks Braden for taking us to this beautiful location. TFTC.
On a visit to Missmetal she suggests a short walk, up a hill, way humid and in thongs to boot.

Third times the charm! First time we didn’t look out far enough. Second time we went too far (following the gps coordinates. *its not down in front of the lookout .) Third time was just right! It is definitely kid and pet friendly. Thanks.
Finally, our first *FTF*. The coordinates are off, but being locals, we knew roughly where to look from the description. It didn't take long before the geodog howled that he had the GC cornered between a couple of rocks. Nice one Poochie!

Noticed this one was brand new after visiting the radar site & thought we would give it a go. Who can refuse the possibility of a FTF?
Alas, we had no joy this time. Short search as directed, but phone had the cache location still 80m away.
The view from the lookout is amazing!
Warning: watch out for green ants whilst hiking this area!
