What an interesting spot!

Our first time here and yet.... Oh the memories that came flooding back approaching GZ. Surprised
Being an old Scouter, I have attended many a "Scout's Own" and even ran a few myself and the best ones were always in places like this. Cool
Most of all, I picture my late father (and long time Scout Leader) standing there at the pulpit of a bush chapel offering a brief sermon on a Sunday morning at camp for eager young ears to consider. [^]
He did it so well. [:X]

This is GOLD! Big Grin [^]

This series first came to our attention when we were chasing caches placed on any Christmas Day. We solved and found the few we needed for that challenge. Ever since then, this entire Geoart (including those not placed on 25th December) had been on a list of mine I named "Christmas Gold". [^]
Today catnap777 and I set out to find as much "Christmas Gold" as we could, and totally amazed ourselves by visiting them all and signing all bar one DNF and the three caches we found last time. Razz
This was probably our longest hike together and now we are feeling like we can do anything. Twisted

Puzzle solved and cache found with dalerious Razz.

Signed log at 1429hrs.

We had a big day planned, and we were doing the lot, yes the entire series on foot. All but 3 which we signed on another trip.

An awesome series Gunks, and the majority of caches were found in excellent condition. We replaced the log paper and plastic bag in 2, and 1 was a dnf.

We had two things on our mind for this weekend, Gold and Cachemas caches.

Firstly, we were off to Warrandyte searching for Au, and I am so excited to say that we walked the entire park, and we signed all but one of the series. We even added a couple of other caches that were positioned around the area that we were hiking.

My knee has issues but I am built of sturdy stuff and made the entire walk from begging to end in the one day Big Grin.

That was the Saturday. On the Sunday we concentrated on the Cachemas caches, picking off the ones that were in the vicinity of where we were staying. One ahomburg challenge cache was situated in an area that required quite a steep ascent.

We enjoyed a very successful weekend of caching, and thank all the CO's that have been busy placing out so many caches for us to find. There were some truly remarkable caches placed out Big Grin.

Out today on a run with ahomburg picking up the remainder of the series solved during the 1st lockdown now 3 years ago.

An interesting unexpected structure here at GZ. A quick find.

Find #13752

Headed out on this chilly but clear Sunday morning with SedgwickDave. Primary goal was to finish off the GOLD series as well as for me to avenge a couple of previous DNFs.

An interesting location for the 2nd series final in the GOLD series.

Apparently nothing has changed here since the 1950s RazzCool

Massive thanks go to Gunks for placing this one.

It is amazing whet you find in the middle of the bush. Can I now say that I attended church during Easter. I expect they hold bush weddings here. Great spot for a cache.

What an intriguing spot!
Would love to know more about it.
After seeing hand surgeon went to catch up with my lifelong best friend. Stayed the night and convinced her to come geocaching with me while I was down as we both need to train for upcoming walks. She booked restaurant for lunch and we went exploring prior to earn our lunch.
After lunch went solo to find the couple remaining. Little did I know I should have ordered sweets! Another step closer to finishing your awesome series.

Collecting the few strays in today's visit with this bonus on the list WTF is with these random alters in the bush? This is the second alter like this I have discovered while GC the 3rd if you include the witches circle. Ok I was impressed and slightly curious.
Suitable song for this cache would be- Just like a prayer. Thanks for this interesting hide.

Checked, all is good.

Congrats to this cache series for being a finalist for the 2020/2021 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards!

I am still trying to find as many of the finalists for these awards as I can. So today was the day that I decided to come and finally finish off this series.

Today was my fifth and last trip out to Warrandyte State Park to to finish off this series. It was another absolutely gorgeous day out here. The weather was a little bit cooler, but still near perfect caching weather.

After gathering all the required information from the other caches on my previous trip. I was armed with the required information to calculate GZ. After a quick double check with the coordinates checker I headed off from the posted parking coordinates.

This was my second to last cache in the series. When I arrived at GZ I couldn't believe what I discovered. I was completely shocked that this structure would be out here. I had a glance at the map and realised wow... this is really kind of in the middle of no where. A very cool discovery. The cache was quickly found once I got to GZ.

Thanks for bringing me out here to explore this cool structure and TFTC.

Cache Maintenance Status:

The structure at GZ was in good shape and very cool to find, completely unexpected. The container was in good shape, and the logbook was clean and dry with plenty of room for future cache finders to sign.

Third trip out this way finding nuggets. Didn't spot a single other person while frolicking about enjoying the stunning green plains.

This is why I love geocaching. Brings me to some surreal locations I would never come to otherwise.

I took a short cut from the previous Gold cache to get here. Very surprising to find a structure like this here. Thanks Gunks

What an unexpected surprise-awesome spot for Easter dawn service!

Nothing more insulting than solving a puzzle just to find out the location is where you had lunch a few hours ago! Hopefully we can come back here another time.

11-May-22
With the clues collected from our previous visits, we headed off along this trail and came across something a little unusual. Certainly not what we expected to find out here, and we all had our own thoughts about its possible origin. After finding our gold, we stayed for awhile exploring this fascinating structure, which I believe is thanks to the scouts.

The locations you bring us to Gunks are outstanding. Thanks again for the great effort in setting up this wonderful series.

11-May-22
Today was an excellent day for caching. The temperature was just right for a bit of hiking around the park, as I shared the walk with Knight_shift. What a beautiful, peaceful place this is. Kym found the cache quite quickly and, with the log signed, we moved on.
Thanks for your work on this series, Gunks. It is a credit to you.

*Cache find # 12805.*

Yesterday I was heading out to try and complete this series after starting it back in February but after getting sidetrack, I ran out of time so I have returned today to try my luck.
Some of the trails were done by bike but most was done on foot, it was a great day out covering a big area on a few different grades of tracks.

This is a very interesting spot, I wondered what I had walked into and what I was looking at hoping that I wasn't going to be the sacrifice today.

**Thanks to Gunks for placing this cache.**

Interesting location here - the favourites don't lie. Strangely, it doesn't seem to have ever been used as a location in the past either. Thanks Gunks for bringing me here

Another one down while killing time and finishing the series.

Thanks Gunks for the cache.

Trying to earn souvenirs and completing challenges during *lock down* can be problematic... Today I needed almost 600 points for **Reach the Peak** before tomorrow night and a *non Trad* cache for the ** The Non-Traditional Calendar Challenge **... and as this cache fitted both needs, I decided an outing was in order.

I arrived at the park to discover the car park overflowing with 3 or 4 times as many cars parked on the access as in the car park itself. Finding a convenient spot on the access road, I parked and set off for my walk. Dodging *unmasked muggles* everywhere, I finally made it to the final turn-off to the cache... and a short walk along a narrow track brought me to an amazing location. After a short hunt I had the cache in hand, log signed and my objectives ticked off...

Thanks **Gunks** for the cache and the whole series...

Heymissjo and I were just heading back on the return leg of today's adventure. We almost missed the subtle turn off on to the bush track which lead us all the way to a surprising GZ. We hadn't anticipated this scene, though I had discovered photos of it recently while attempting to 'armchair' a different problem - it may have even been the final to this Gold series (SSHHHHH, don't tell the CO!!).
Sadly, we discovered the cache open and exposed. A little TLC was required. HMJ contacted the CO for instructions on exact placement, while I replaced the logbook with one that has been hiding in my caching bag from when I began geocaching 5 years ago!

As those who honour this site would advise, it surely pays to "be prepared"!

With maintenance complete, everything is in order here now.
A bush bashing adventure mixed with some community service. All in a good day's work for these geo-scouts!

Thanks, Gunks.

After stopping my the river at the nearby Quaser cache to soak up the sunshine, we continued our meander around the blue tongue track with this next cache in our sites. What an unexpected location! Although upon arrival we saw it had been disabled…. But The Welder and I decided to check it out. Sadly… another cache out in the open with its contents awry… no wonder everything is wet! The log book was stuck together and extra sticky from the half eaten chocolate freddo that had been left behind…. Seriously?! Wtf people!!! Gross!!!
But we love Gunks and his caches…. And we know it’s out of his legal 5km zone… so we have cleaned it up, cleaned it out and added a fresh log book. Gunks this cache is good to go, you can reactivate it now. A favourite from me for such a cool and unexpected location.

21-Aug-21
Thanks to Heymissjo and the welder this one is good to go. Outside my 5km. Cheers.

Good to go

Need to check this one out and replace the log book.

A lovely sanctuary in the woods. I will be back here for sure!

This was a lucky find. I tucked it away a little more. Great to be outside today.

06-Jun-21
OMG we did not expect this!!!!!! Amazing! I have no idea how you found this place!
After a lovely walk yesterday, we came back here for our daily exercise again today. Today it was this loop that we took, and what a great loop it was. While walking tracks everywhere seem to be packed during the lockdown, there is barely a soul here.
Sixth find on todays walk.
We had this worked out a long time ago. We have now collected 25 pieces of gold and have 10 left.
An absolute favourite point awarded here.

Ohhhh wowwwwwww!....
what an amazing surprise awaits the treasure Hunter at the end of this small Trail. I was totally gobsmacked. Head down and making my way through the Trail I suddenly came upon this amazing finding.
It was eerie and beautiful at the same time. I’ve never seen anything like it before in my life.
Thank you so much Gunks, for bringing me here, as I definitely would never have found it otherwise.
Oh and I found the treasure safe and sound as well.
A definite favourite point for this location

Dropping a child off for a birthday sleepover got me part way to the GOLDfields, so I figured, what the heck...

Turns out that a bunch of people had similar thoughts, as the scenic carpark was the busiest I'd ever seen it. Still not a huge number of people on the trails, though, so not many encounters.

Thanks, Gunks. I took the more scenic route to the path that leads here, and what a surprise to find at the end. Added to the list of things I'd probably not visit were it not for Geocaching.

We found this cache as number 5 of 6 on our Gold Diggers Warrandyte Tour Part IV. One thing that I love in Geocaching is finding the absolute unexpected and this one delivered the ultimate. We were really surprised by what we found there and really happy to do it. Thanks from D B-A with K & Z.

Finishing the Gold series on the Blue Tongue Bend today. This is a grand series that I have enjoyed very much. Thanks Gunks for your major effort to put the Gold in place. At last the end and what a lovely spot this is in. I had the chance here to speak your praise Gunks to the bush creatures within hearing.

07-Jan-21
Out and about with the grandkids to polish of and little bit more of this wonderful series. We just love exploring another part of Warrandyte. The kids solved the puzzles during lockdown and now its time to reap the rewards. Had picked up all the clues that we needed for this one and what a wonderful place for it to reside in. Took time out to enjoy the surroundings. Thanks Gunks for this great series. It gets a fav from us

06-Jan-21
Continuing on my way through Victoria's golden heritage, this was next on the agenda. I'd found enough clues along the journey to calculate GZ and once there, it was a nice quick find at 15:00. Oh, I do so wish that I could include a pickie but, well, you know ... Wink

One of the things I really like about this series is that the clues are replicated in several caches in the series so if one happens to go missing, the bonus and the final can still be found. Kudos to you.

And, of course, that all adds up to a fave point from me. Big Grin

TNLNSL. Many, many thanks for this great series Gunks.

Wet and damp overhead foliage set the GPSrs on a Marry dance..... using our geosense and hint, found it 13m away.
Have been here before a long time ago.
Looks like it doesn’t get much traffic through here now.

Out to find a little more gold today. Thanks for this fabulous series Gunks
This was quite a surprise in the middle of nowhere. It deserves a FP.

31-Dec-20
I found GOLD! Thanks Gunks

09-Dec-20
Bingo bango! It’s GOLD of course. Can I forget? Also, YAPIDKA! Such a patch work park system. A few missions for the day include running - gotta get some fitness back and do enjoy exploring these parks. So this clutch of caches a bonus, partly so I can run rest run rest etc etc! Each GZ has been very accurate and along with the hint I had plenty of bingo bango moments. Melbs on care duty and luckily it’s close by so given it’s an almost sunny but cold summer day, the park beckons. Great spot. TFTC

01-Dec-20
Having a lovely time with echidna44,but the showers and wet long grass and higher vegetation soon meant we were quite wet. This didn’t dampen our enthusiasm and plan to complete this Gold series I wasn’t expecting a structure like this to be here Thanks Gunks

29-Nov-20
Out with au.fait, we decided to complete the gold series in Warrandyte even though it had been raining heavily. We ended up with wet feet and knees from the long grass and dripping trees.
What an unexpected thing to find in the bush. Absolutely amazing.
Well hidden in this setting. Thanks Gunks.

21-Nov-20
With all the clues now gathered, I calculated GZ - I must go there! I almost didn't see the turnoff from the main trail, then made my way along it to this very interesting place - thanks for bringing me here! So many hiding places but the hint helped narrow it down.
Thanks Gunks!

17-Nov-20
I was looking for a place that would be fairly quiet and removed that I had these solved puzzles. I hadn't been here before and as such seemed like a great day to visit. Glad it was supposed to be a cool day, as I still got dam warm hiking here.

Only had 4 of the 6 required numbers correctly work out this location, but the 4 numbers I had was enough to work out this location.

From the main path, I followed a small path directly to this lovely hidden location. I was able to walk a bit further to get some photos of the river too.

Thanks for the cache Gunks

Today had us back at Jumping Creek Reserve for our next dose of Gold. This series has been so good that we don't want them to end. We decided to have an early start and avoid the crowds.

What a totally unexpected experience at the GZ. We were surprised! A quick find. TNLN. TFTC.

11-Nov-20
Back onto finding more of this Gold series after a few months break during lockdown. This place has been a favourite place to visit for my husband and I on our walks, we even wanted to get married here but thought it would have been cruel to make the guest walk all the way in! Smile. TFTC

09-Nov-20
We are back to find a few more in this series after not being able to travel more than 5 km for some time. A warm day and blue skies and not too many muggles around! This proved to an unexpected setting for this area and apparently we have the scouts to thank for this. We quickly discovered the cache in this secluded spot. Thanks to Gunks for the cache and series.

03-Nov-20
Well that was unexpected out in the middle of nowhere! Also had to wait for two muggles to leave. This was the first "final" cache using the clues from the others gathered months ago before knock-down changed everything. Finally back here on a sunny cup day. Thanks for the cache and this interesting spot.

01-Nov-20
Wow that’s a secret passage to a very very unexpected place thanks for bringing me here you never know what you gonna find in the bush

31-Oct-20
I started this series before lockdown v2.0 and have waited months to resume my quest for gold. Today was the day and I had a great time - it was marvelous to be out and about once again! This was a massively enjoyable series in a beautiful park - I was surprised there werent more other caches in here! TFT series Gunks, I had a spectacular time!

29-Oct-20
What a surprise at GZ. I'm greatly enjoying this Gold series, but don't have enough fav points for all the caches. I'll give one to this cache and another when I find the final in the series. Tftc.

23-Oct-20
Well that was weird! Will have to see if I can find any information on this! Not what you expect to find in the middle of the bush. Gets a favourite all of its own. Thanks for bringing me here.

02-Jul-20
Quite a surprise at the GZ.
Maybe if I'd looked on Google Maps, I would have know what to expect.

26-Jun-20
Sunny winter morning, perfect day to complete another section of the GOLD series

07-Jun-20
Annoying Tarbit and I headed out towards Warrandtye for a bush walk and hoping to find lots of gold along the way. It ended up being quite a big day in the end with all 35 Gold caches found and a few traditional caches thrown in for good measure. The best part was there were no DNFs (for a change).

After calculating the coordinates for this one (and grumbling about how close but yet so far we had been to this one earlier) we headed over for a look. Despite having walked in the area a number of times, I had never seen the object at GZ before. Very unexpected. My GPS was bouncing around so whilst I was off chasing incorrect coordinates AT made the find. TFTC Gunks!

07-Jun-20
First time since lockdown that I arranged to meet someone else to have a day out caching. Lost_and_found_79 and I had planned some decent walking to tackle the Gold geoart series around Wonga Park. I had solved these not long after they were published but this was the first time I was able to head out and look for them. Don't want to give away any hints on the location of this one but suffice to say I had a plan about finding the series in order to prevent backtracking to #12 and #35 that was spectacularly wrong! A long walking loop back to an area we had been close to earlier resulted in the find here. What an unexpected set up to find here! Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables. Thanks for the puzzle, the cache and the series Gunks. This one earns a favourite point from me (at least partly on behalf of the great effort in this whole series).

07-Jun-20
I had the place to myself so it was easy to search. Sat down to work out some calculation numbers but was disturbed by some people approaching.

30-May-20
Wow, that was unexpected. I really love geocaching for things like this. How would I ever have know that this spot existed?

30-May-20
What an unexpected place in the forest -- would not have known about it if it weren't for this cache! Thank you -- another favourite.

26-May-20
What an odd spot. We didn’t have enough time for roaming Howie to make all his confessions as it was a quick find. Thanks

26-May-20
Interesting place - what was the history of this place. Certainly not what I was expecting out in the middle of the bush. Signed the log and left before being struck down. TFTC

Out for a quickish walk this afternoon to grab two caches in this magnificent park, damn fine afternoon for it too.
What a magic spot, hidden in the middle of nowhere, sort of.
Quick find, time to get home now to finish some work.
**Thanks for placing this cache Gunks**

After putting together the clues and plenty of walking in this beautiful area we have arrived at this unexpected site out in the bush. Would love to know how it came about!

18-May-20
With another beautiful day forecast, what better way to spend it than looking for GOLD.
To say we were surprised by what we found here was a bit of an understatement. Not a bad place for it, I guess.
Thanks Gunks for bringing us to this magnificent area.

Today was the third and final pass to complete the GOLD series (and a few nearby extras). I set out after lunch time from the picnic ground with the aim of picking the last 17.

I made good time, picking up #2, #3, #4, #7 and #10 relatively quickly as I had become accustomed to finding the precious nuggets. I found the clue allowing me to decode the coords for the final cache and continued on for a quick find of #14.

However, things came to a grinding halt once I hit #20. I searched for nearly 20min before finally spotting it. Coming across the "sheds" was rather unexpected as was the kangaroo skeleton on the mattress!

From here I went on to find #35 (final) - KACHING and a trackable! Along the way I crossed paths with a black snake and some giant fungi.

The next batch of #15, #13, #30 and #29 were nice and easy followed by a religious revelation at #12! Here I also think I had a quick chat to the telefreaks family who I suspect may have just signed the log a few minutes before I arrived, the first sign I'd seen of other cachers out and about for the day.

A deviation from the series led me to find the nearby Mercator's Ghost followed by #26, which took me much longer than average and then finished onto #25 after which my handheld GPS's battery died and then a quick find of the last one of the day, #21.

It was then a short walk back to the picnic ground and my mouth was watering after passing a few young blokes roasting a large cut of beef on a spit.

All in all, another fantastic afternoon hiking around the Warrandyte state park and completing the wonderful GOLD series. Thanks Gunks I loved the ingots!

18-Mar-20
I have to say we were not expecting to see what we saw when we approached GZ. A great spot for a cache.
Thanks Gunks

17-Mar-20
Having solved the coordinates for this cache at our last visit to this area , we took the small path off the main trail to GZ and were quite surprised what we saw . After a bit of poking around my friend spotted the cache . Thanks Gunks

15-Mar-20
Wow, what a great day. Knocked off all 35 of this series on foot (well mostly, I moved the car twice). Arrived at around 10 for the first lot (the souther ones) and enjoyed a walk around that area. Back at the car I drove to the next lot and parked in a tight spot. Thats when I noticed a familiar licence plate and messaged the owner (Rebel Acts) who was indeed out with Omegaman finding some in this area. My faster walking pace saw me catch up to them eventually and we enjoyed some caching together, before they ran out of caches and I had one to grab still in this area. So, jogging my way to the one I needed still I was still able to find it and meet them back at the car park before car move number 2.

Grabbing a few other caches we met some other cachers on the trails, it certainly was a great day for it. RA & OM and I enjoyed finding some caches, albeit it was a little slower than I am used to, but it was nice to have some company. Unfortunately at one stage OM had to retire hurt, but RA continued on with me until the very end, although the pace was getting slower, I still managed to nab every one of them in the day. Very happy with that achievement.

Messaging my usual caching companion on my way home, she was a little bored so I dropped by her place and we went out and found 7 more before calling it a day, so one big day out caching for me. Thanks for all the caches, all found with great co ordinates and all log books in excellent condition. A great series of caches. TFTC!

15-Mar-20
I was on leave so I messaged Omegaman1971 to see if he wanted to go caching, I had to head to the area to take My Mum home so We decided to continue searching the hills for gold, we were soon joined by Day1976 who was in the area, I managed to get all but one finished today, I have to say the legs were real sore by the end. We also came across Spiffy and Flebag on there extreme bikes. I appreciate the effort made with this series.

Thanks Gunks for the cache.

15-Mar-20
Found at 3:19 pm.
When these were all published I was way down on the Flinders foreshore at a CITO event but had a quick look and worked out mostly what was required but put them on the backburner for a little while since I was no chance for any first to finds. A few days later though I had them all solved and was ready for a road trip.
So today with the weather cloudy and cool we headed out with both the bikes on the back of the ute and the last speed bump into the main car park caused one of the bikes to nearly fall off but all good after that.
We rode around and collected the whole series in one go today and once I got back to the car the bike only had 6% battery left from all those hills and super tight hilly tracks draining the life out of it. The iPhone 11 fared much better, it still had 50% battery left.
At the end of the ride with a lot of scratches and one bull ant bite it was a very fun and satifying trip. A couple of them were quite tricky to ride within 25-30m or so but we managed it ... you have to maximise your laziness to override the lack of fitness you see.
At one point we met Rebel Acts, Omegaman1971 & day1976 on our travels but never saw them again after that. We started at the north end first and they started at the south. Just a tip for future players ... start south, you will work out why later. Wasn't a huge drama but we had a couple of extra rides to do backtracking over already covered territory by starting north.
An awesome series with an lot of effort put in to all those containers and hides.

This one we needed an extra ride to get to after finishing the clues but a great and totally unexpected GZ. A favourite from me.
Thanks Gunks for the caches, the puzzles, the hunts and a really fun day out.

I lived in East Doncaster very close to Warrandyte for 26 years and even went to Warrandyte High school. But back then Geocaching was non existent and I didn't explore the area very much. The Warrandyte tunnel is always an interesting place to visit and now I am also chasing gold in the town.

Geobuddy Spiffy- and I had this series, plus another random cache in this area. With no real plan on how to best tackle these we took our Stealth Electric bikes and off we went. The hils sure sucked down the battery and some fallen trees and steps made for a tough terrain, but all in all we found lots of "Gold".

Thanks Gunks for an awesome series.

Many moons ago on the US version of The Amazing Race, a team of Christian Cowboys used the phrase “Oh my gravy” to express wonder, disbelief, or a general lack of comprehension.

Most appropriate for this find too. Jason I’m not sure how you know to bring us here, am a little confused but very grateful yo see this GZ. TFTC and the adventure.

Chipping away at the gold in the area, mining our way towards a complete treasure chest. Today was on bike. Some trails easy, some a little tricky. A bit of bush-bashing too. Apologies for the copy-paste logs, but I’m getting too far behind with logs.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, Gunks

STF - What a strange and eerie place this is! I'd never have even known this place existed if it wasn't for geocaching. TFTC Gunks
