Today was supposed to be all about a walk to Boroomba rocks, but with all the rain the access road was closed, which made it a bit far for me in this very changeable and mostly wet weather. I joined Sol de Lune and Smitten Granny for the journey to Honeysuckle creek. First was the event at the new car park. A few hardy souls went on for the walk up, well done. The rest of us did the caches around the Tracking station, including a short walk down to the nearby creek. This area is great and the immediate vicinity seems to be recovering from the fires all right.
I am always impressed when a relatively large crows turns out for a get together so far from anywhere. Even quite a few visitors. Thanks for the door prize.
Thanks.

Tankengine and I came down to the far south on this wicked weather day to mainly attend the event.
However we weren’t really up for a long walk in the freezing wind, snow, hail and occasional sun ray.
So after a lovely time at the event chatting with friends, swapping pathtags, logging TBs and discussing future plans, we headed home to work on pathtag designs and solve a few puzzles.
Great idea for an event and it was great catching up. Tfte 2 Leg Drive!!!

Thanks for staying the course on this one and holding our first event in a while. It was great to see lots of familiar faces, and some no so familiar faces but familiar names!
I did not have the fortitude to brave the windy icy conditions for the hike to the top today, probably as I have most of them already… That said, it is an awesome hike when the weather is good. Well done to those who made it to the top.
Huge thanks to 2 Leg Drive for organising, and for the fabulously thoughtful ‘lucky door prize’. Love it, and will definitely put them to good use. Thank you

Headed out with Joolay, Kittykatch and Isopeda to the event even though we had decided that today was not the day for the walk for us. Made good use of the day though and collected a few caches nearby then headed out to the ACT border collecting some more on the way. Tks for organising.

First to find with the group of walkers Thanks for that 2LD!
Absolutely fantastic event! Up there with the best CC events I have attended!
I had been looking forward to this ever since it was published, and was excited when it started to be confirmed after lockdown restrictions were easing!
I was a little bit surprised that only 8 attendees decided to participate in the walk, as that was the purpose of the event. But was glad to be apart of the awesome group of people who did! Shoutout to 2LD, DSD, AKM, TikvaNZ, Dwarf Exploder, injuryman and Turtle for the company!
We found a whole bunch of caches, had to skip three of them at the peak when it started blowing a gale and snowing, but then when we starting hiking back down the sun came out again. Damm! Oh well, it is one of the best / easiest walks in Namadgi so I will be back once more! Wish I could add a FP for the organisation and bringing us out here today!

**Today**
I have been looking forward to the "Booroomba Walk" Community Celebration event for a long time now! One of the best ideas for a CC event in my opinion, great to bring people out to a beautiful part of Namadgi and organise a group walk! Brought back memories of a Cankid event which was also fantastic!
It was an excellent day too, majority of the walk was sunny and clear, but when we reached the top it turned sour and the wind was horrendous and we even saw some light snow, which was unexpected at this time of year! As we retreated back down the mountain again it cleared up once more with blue skies again...! The weather couldn't make up it's mind!
An excellent day overall with a lovely walk and some great views. So many views that were previously obstructed have now been opened up by the recent fires, as have some of the walks to the caches. The undergrowth is still very low and easy to navigate around!
Thanks to 2LD for organising, and all the cache owners from today's finds!

[FTF] with the walking group!
A quick chat to a few people at the start, some TB's moved along and before long we were on our way! It was a great walk, finding many caches on the way. My thoughts this morning were reasoning the distance from summer, and therefore failing to bring a jumper - but at least the Hawaiian shirt was festive. Thank goodness Loci had a spare jacket, as close to the top I was starting to feel it.
Great to chat to all, and a successful walk, Thanks!

It's been a long time since I hosted an event so I was super glad to see so many people out. Some too enjoy the social aspect in the car park and few for a walk on brisk weather day.
Trying to host this event was a real challenge with planning, covid, heatwaves, cold waves, road closures and countless other worries to keep me on edge about. So I'm glad it went off, people seemed to enjoy themselvesand I had a great day out in Namadgi.
A big thanks to the walkers DARKSIDEDAN, AYKAYEM, TikvaNZ, Dwarf Exploder, injuryman and Turtle284. A few caches found on the way, a few laughs and some crazy weather at the lookout.
True to form while out in Namagi the party placed a few pieces of tupperware under some rocks and logs. good luck to future finders.
A few shout outs at the end. A big congrats to Wilbert67. Tops work on 20 000 find. Mind blowing.Also.
Thanks DarkSIDEDAN for your assistance with the day.
Hope to be out again soon.

Good news for today's walk. Looks like the weather is holding off and only light showers are forecast.
Due to the significant amount of rain over the last 3 days I suspect the gate at the beginning of Booroomba rock road is still closed. I can confirm after 9am with the rangers.
This means it is a 9km walk return from the gate to Booroomba rocks lookout.
If this is further than planned attendees are still welcome to put their name in the log if they are at the car park between 10.30 and 11am when we plan to depart.
My plan is to depart from the gate at 11am and walk along the Booroomba rock road.
For others that may like a slightly less hilly but longer walk. The alpine trail from honeysuckle creek can be used to access Booroomba rocks. That walk is 10.5Kms long. But please note I will be walking from the gate on Booroomba rock road.
Seeyou all soon!

Have been convinced by my friends that this is a good thing to do whilst snow flurries and rain are forecast.
Will see you there.

Nice event. Lovely snow flurries.
Good to see everyone!

Well I surprised myself by being here today and am really happy for the last minute decision as all my previous plans went out the window thanks to the inclement weather ?? .
How did this happen? We were caching down south doing short walks just to get out of the house for a couple of hours before the rains were to come again. GeoPartner noted that we were very close to this event so before heading home again we thought ?? - why not!
It was wonderful seeing so many new faces (to me) and the 'old' faces as well. I really appreciated the COs tenacity to proceed with this event despite the overnight rains and today’s forecast. I was amazed and impressed by the turn out at the locked gate - enough to fill the carpark!
Many, many thanks to the CO for bringing us all together despite the light drizzle, hail, wind and
mud under foot. Great to see a reasonably sized group of cachers heading for the rocks up ??- braver than me.

After a better night sleep at Condor I am ready for the important day. Hopefully the weather is going to be better than the last few days. Into Namadgi today for an event and a walk. This will put me on 20000 !! Woohoo, good milestone that I am proud of. After that caching my way home for a good night sleep in a bed.

I haven't been very active lately and as it turns out, this is my first cache of 2021. Thanks for organising 2 Leg Drive, it was great to get out again with the geocaching community. And of course, thanks for the chocolate, chips and lucky door prize.
I stayed with the small group doing the walk, so was good to get back out in Namadgi after the fires. I've visited Booroomba Rocks many times, but never actually found any of the caches there, so managed to pick up a few extra smileys to add to my attended log. Booroomba Rocks was as spectacular as ever, but with the strong winds and snow, it made for a memorable visit.
Thanks again.

It was great to attend this event today and it was great to be out at Namadgi again. We would have loved to have joined the walk but the bad weather meant we will need to return another day.

Wow what a wonderful day today turned out to be. A good sized group were in attendance at the carpark and in no time everyone was engaged in conversation. It consisted of previous exploits as well as future hopes for adventure.
Soon it was time to farewell the hardy walkers. There was rain threatening, the wind was blustery and downright cold and everyone was itching to get moving on whatever they had planned for the rest of the day.
Huge thanks to 2legdrive for this great event that enticed me out on a day that held little promise weather wise. SL

Headed out to the event Smittengranny and Albida with the initial intent to do the walk. However once the car park road was closed, meaning an extra 5-6 klm walk, in the suss weather, I decided I wasn't really up for it. Thanks to 2 Leg Drive to putting the event on, including the pre-event gathering at the gate with the chips and door prizes. Like others, I have be up the top on a few occasions and look forward to getting back there another day. Hope those that did go up, enjoyed the hike and the views.....
Thanks 2 Leg Drive.....a great event anyway.

What crazy weather. Was so looking forward to the walk but between wind, snow, sleet and then the sun the weather was too unpredictable so will walk it another time. But thanks for the great event 2 Leg Drive
It was a great little event in the end, despite the weather and rangers conspiring against it. Great chats with a few new faces (with familiar names). Thanks for the fresh logs, they will come in very handy!
Hope the walk to the top was pleasant.

What an amazing way to start my holidays from work. Geo-events, traveling, meeting up with friends and finding many different caches made it fun! It’s so nice to finally be able to do all these things… again. The following descriptions are my adventures between the days of 12/11/21 and 16/11/21. Each cache has been logged to the end of my adventures for the day of finding them. If you would like to read my full log, please find it on any cache I found on the 16/11/21.
Day #1: I finished work at 4pm and headed over to Wagga for the only GIFF event in NSW. Apart from the CO, I was the first to arrive at the event. It was great to finally attend a Geocaching after many months without them. All talk Geo was had by all until we were told that dinner was ready. Soon after, the popcorn was ready and the movies were on. Congratulations to all the GIFF finalists and they were all a great watch. Also, Congratulations to BMG for receiving the FTF on the event. Then it was time to head home and get ready to head to Canberra for the next few days.
Day #2: I was nearly late to my own event. O’well… It was still fun with the small group of us that turned up. We also discovered many Moveable caches before heading off to today’s main goal. This happened to be finding the ‘A’ part of the GA geo-art series as well as the lone GC caches around the area which I hadn’t found as I pasted by them. I wasn’t alone as AKM came for the walk as well. After finding all but the last two we headed our separate ways as it started raining heavier. Hopefully, it won’t be raining tomorrow so the event goes ahead but well will need to see. Also pizza for dinner tonight.
Day #3: Today’s adventures included the CCE down in Booroomba and as many of the nearby caches as possible. I didn’t do the walk to the ‘Booroomba Rocks’ but I am still able to log the event. I then headed off with a large group of others to find the nearby caches. After that, I caught a lift with Kittykatch, Joolay, isopeda and Barb2e and we headed down to the ACT boarder finding the caches along the way many caches were found and a new GCA cache placed (Gudgenby – GA25097). It was great to see some ammo cans out in the wild, even if they were slightly damaged by the fires. As we arrived back in Tharwa we had afternoon tea and headed our separate ways. Another great day and so much more to go.
TB visit on all found caches. I would like to thank all CO's of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring me and the rest of the caching community enjoyment.

I was really keen to attend this event and thought it was a great idea to walk up to Booroomba. A walk I have been wanting to do for a long time now so was pleased this event was going to be the thing that got me there. As it happened the weather just wasn't on our side and although we were hopeful of walking up once we arrived and with the snow/hail that was blowing through with the cold gusty wind pleased that we would wait for a calmer day to go up and really enjoy the time up there. The cache I was going to use as as my milestone will have to wait but a little last minute caching on the way out saw the numbers I needed to use this one instead. Was happy to catch up with many cachers, some I have not seen for a while, some nice PTs came my way that I will be happy to have in my collection and even a lucky draw prize that was very cool to win! Thanks for organising the event 2 leg drive!
Woohoo [FTF] today, but only for those who made the hike to the top with the group.
This Community Celebration event today at Booroomba rocks was amazing. Great to see so many people out and even better to be in Namadgi after the fires destroyed almost everything.
The walking party experienced all 4 season while on trail. Out at the lookout we initially had clear views but then a dark cloud popped over. Horizontal rain, hail, sleet and even some snow with artic cold freezing winds. All this only added to the adventure. Spotted an Echidna at the top and picked up about 10 other caches. I also managed to place 3 more caches here so I guess everyone will be back to get them sooner than later.
Fun times with great people. Thanks so much for hosting such a great event!!!!

Its been way too long since our last visit to the capital, so awesome to have an event the weekend we are up and to catch up with so many of our caching friends. True to form canberra turned on the weather, but it just wouldn't be canberra with mild boring weather . Cant wait to come back again now we are free to visit. TFTE

A good crowd gathered for the event, and then 8 of us braved the weather to ascend to Booroomba Rocks. We had mixed weather from very pleasant to blizzard including snow. Amazing to see how things have changed since the fires, and how the bush is recovering. Great views from the top. TFTE, the chips and chocolates, and the walk.

[FTF] With the group of 8 who completed the hike to the cliffs. Nice to put some faces to a few more names, and great to join the crew who made the ascent. Thanks 2 Leg Drive for hosting this event and bringing me back to this area after 30 years. It has inspired me to come again! We had a great day, picked up a number of caches along the way and were confronted with sleet, sunshine, rain and snow. Living the Life! Cheers.
Came up to the car park not being sure whether I would attend the hike or not! Well, the freezing weather, snow flurries (or mini hail) not sure which, and the fact that I have done all the caches there before - made me decide against the hike today. But it was lovely to catch up with fellow cachers here today! Thanks for the event 2LG!!!
Regrettably, I shall have to withdraw my planned attendance. Don't think my dodgy knee is quite up to a 9km return adventure on a possibly damp track.
A pity as I was very much looking forward to the event and appreciate all the effort put into the planning by 2 Leg Drive and DSD during very challenging and changeable conditions, ie Covid lockdown, inclement weather etc. Much appreciated and I hope the weather clears up sufficiently for the walk tomorrow!

Track-able drop. 20 Years celebration geo-coin. This will be discoverable during the event
Its only two sleeps till the event and time for another update.
I spoke with the rangers today at the Namadgi visitor center and asked about the Booroomba rocks car park road. As the road is newly repaired and graded the rangers said that it is susceptible to damage while wet from the recent heavy rains. So unless Saturday and Sunday are dry The booroomba rock car park will be closed to vehicles. I will confirm this just after 9am on Sunday morning.
So this means that the walk will be longer. From the gate it is 9km return to Booroomba rocks lookout. I am still keen to do the walk but will allow non walker to sign the log before we leave.Car parking. at the start of Booroomba rock road where the gate is there is limited parking. Approximately 10 cars. About 500 meters up the road is the Honey Suckle creek camp ground with loads of additional parking.
Weather contingency.
1. I don't mind walking in light rain, but if it is consistent and heavy rain we will have a gathering at the honey suckle creek camp ground in the shelter. I will included a gps co-ordinate in the way points. This will be a shorter event.
2. If the weather is really wet and windy there is a possibility that the Apollo/ Naas roads may be closed due to shallow creek crossings and fallen trees along the road. If this happens I will cancel the event. Depending where they close the road I will hang around and let people know of the cancellation. Remember "If its flooded. Forget it"
So bring your wet weather gear and lets hope for fine walking weather.Thank!

minniek and I will be attending, but may not do the walk due to injury. We will see on the day.
With one week left to the event I thought I should make another announcement.
-walker list is now up to 26.
-I have updated the event page with the covid safe plan. Please have a read.
-As part of my plan I have discouraged the sharing of food as this is a possible risk. I'd encourage participants to bring their own lunch, drinks and snacks. Sorry.
-At the look out I will address the group very briefly and hand out a few lucky door prizes. Unfortunately I'm not much of a speech maker.
-If we have to split into two groups I will make another announcement and give details of how we will split closer to the day. DARKSIDEDAN will be running the second group.
-One thing that has me a little worried. I visited honeysuckle today and the Booroomba rock road was closed again. It was closed due to the rain. I will call the rangers again this week and see when they plan to open it again. If the road is closed, its just going to be a longer walk.
Thanks and I look forward to next Sunday!

Anyone planning an attempt on some of the more difficult nearby caches ie GC131CC 'Vertical Bushwalking'?
Thanks 2 Leg Drive for allowing me to look after the second group should it be needed.
Another brief update. DARKSIDEDAN has kindly offered to assist with a second group if we go over the 30 people mark. Currently we are sitting at 24 attendees.
A big thanks to DSD.
Looking forward to the day.

We are two weeks out from the event day so I thought I would add a few updates. Some good news on the car park road. It was opened on the 22nd of October. see link below.
https://www.environment.act.gov.au/home/home-news-listing/booroomba-rocks-road-has-reopened.
As of tonight we have 21 walkers including me. This is below the 30 threshold. If we get more walkers and we cross over the threshold I will split the walk into 2 groups. The second group starting 20 minutes after the first and will be encouraged to congregate in a different area once at the rocks. To assist with this am I able to get a volunteer to walk with the second group if required? PM me if you are interested.
I am putting together some covid safe advice that will be posted soon. Nothing that won't be familiar. but feel free to comment when I post it.
Hoping the beautiful weather will hold out and looking forward to the day.

Hi. I now have a family commitment that weekend so won't be able to attend. Was quite looking forward to it too. Hope everyone enjoys it.
Need the exercise after lockdown, so will make every effort. Just 1 in my 'group'. Thanks for arranging 2 Leg Drive
It's a YES from me, looking forward to the exercise, thanks 2 Leg Drive for persisting with the organising of this event!
Surprisingly, I have not yet walked to Booroomba Rocks. This is a good opportunity to right that wrong! +1
I still intend to attend
... just the 1 of me (which is probably more than enough - lol)

Superb idea, I’ll be there and participating in the hike! Thanks 2 Leg Drive for hosting!
Looking forward to an outing in the capital and catching up with all friends. Fingers crossed re interstate regulations.
I will attend and hopefully this time it will be able to run. Looking forward to it.
I deleted my original WA log and am still hoping to get to this on the new date. This log is for one person only.
Thanks for organising 2 Leg Drive??
Thanks for organising 2 Leg Drive??
Well, as I was not expecting to able to attend before I am happy it has moved, although lockdown cancelled my original plans anyway.
Should be a great day !

We hope to attend this one. But we'll see what the Government have to say first.
Look forward to it, sound wonderful. Hopefully the park will be open, otherwise I can delay if need be.
This event has been delayed to the Sunday the 14th of November.
The ACT will be under covid lock-down condition during the original date so cannot proceed.
This Date has been chosen for the following reasons.
The ACT region will be well past the 80% double Vax rate.
Namadgi national Park will be open.
Out door events of up to 30 people will be allowed.
I would like to avoid a December date due to the approaching summer and other family commitments.
Could all original attendees please renew their attendance log.
In your log please indicate if you are intending to bring extra people and the numbers.
We had approximately 9 will attendees for the original date,
If we go over the 30 people limit. I will split the event into a second group to be held at a later time in the day to create separation between the two groups.
Closer to the date details of the covid safety plan will be provided dependent on the local health regulations.
Feel free to PM me or post in the log if you have any questions.

I have never been out there so looking forward to the day. However I won't commit to doing the actual walk till the day depending on conditions. Thanks for organising. 1 only.
As well all know lock-down has been extended to the 15th of October. Two days before this event. In the lock-down conditions Namadgi National park is mostly closed, including the rocks.
The news reported noted a 2 week review period due about the 28th of September.
I'll wait till then for a decisions to delay.
If I delay. It will most likely be a month.
Thanks

A brief update. This event is a month away.
Going on the daily positive count and the situation in NSW I suspect lock down conditions may be with us for a while yet, But I'm holding out hope.
I will make a further update on the 17th when the current lock down is expected to finish.
I'm still very keen to make this event happen, it will just be delayed if i have too.
Thanks
