Spent a good time here with no luck

A day paddling on the Georges River. This was one of a handful I found today. A beautiful day to be enjoying the spoils of Sydney.TFTC

11-Feb-23
GRPT OCW Brewmaker, 4Rods, Discobob3 and 4Rods to complete another area of the George’s river power trail. This is my third trip here and I have at least two more to do.
I’m very happy to put these ones to bed and sorry for the repetitive logs. Thanks Rainbow Spirit for placing the trail and for helping us maintain it today.
The day was warm and sunny after an overcast start. Launched just after 8:20, finished at midday.

Found with the YAK's - Martin Cousins, Brewmaker, JennyFromTheFarm and DiscoBob3. Met at the nearby launch ramp to find that a jet ski event was being conducted. We would have to paddle with care. It was a hot day out on the water, and we found most of the caches were still in place. Having many sets of eyes helped find the caches. Another smiley to add to our collection. Thanks for the power trail Rainbow Spirit.

Took the dogs to the park and figured I would have a crack at this one since it was so close. Easy to reach from the bank and my shoes on got a little wet.
Planning to have a go at a few of the others on this trail soon, although I’ve noticed a number of DNFs on them.

I had half the day up my sleeve in Sydney this morning before I needed to head back to Canberra. I had thrown the kayak into the car the day before when I left, as I knew I could tackle some more of these caches today!

I managed to find 8 caches in this series, but it took me 4 hours to do so! Similar results to last time. This is a tough series that's for sure that is going to take me many more trips and hours to complete...! I had 3 DNF's where I couldn't find anything at all, mainly due to them being hidden in thick bushes and I clearly just couldn't spot any signs of a cache, or maybe they weren't there.... who knows!

Unfortunately 6 out of 8 of the caches I found today were only left with the attachments Sad I am sorry to bear the bad news but it looks like this entire series might need an upgrade, the rings on the bison tubes seem to just rust / corrode in the water after being out for a while. The two caches which I actually found, one of them was replaced last year and the ring looks like it is very close to corroding away again, and the other one has seemed to hang on for dear life as well!

This is an absolutely fantastic idea for a series however, and I do hope to continue doing bits and pieces of it every time I visit Sydney. You might need some sort of thick steel wire that will not corrode and a crimping tool to attach the caches permanently. Happy to help with maintenance on future endeavours if you would like to organise that Smile

Thanks for the series! Can't wait to return, such a fun time on the river and one of the most incredible trails I have seen, I hope the issues can be fixed so more get to enjoy this Big Grin

For seven years I have had my car serviced at the fabulous Liverpool Nissan. So while it was getting serviced I came on a paddle with my youngest on my first day of caching in over five weeks.

My youngest had to get out to sign the log as this wasnot reachable from the water.

Well this was an interesting spot. Luckily it was high tide so no sucky mud to negotiate. The GPS kept pointing to a particulate spot but there was a large tree that most likely had fallen since the cache was placed. And this bit of debris was now making it impossible to access the cache easily. I was almost going to get out of the kayak but din't want mud all in the kayak. I just couldn't spot the cache, so I back paddled and then saw it hanging in spot that I couldn't glide up to. So again I paddled hard and rammed the nose up and over the branch, still couldn't reach, so once again, had to stand up in my kayak. No problem signing this and yes its high and dry.... just awkward to get to.

We have been wanting to come and grab the rest of this series for a while. then the rains came, the river flooded. Today the stars lined up and here we are.
We started early in the morning at 100 and proceed up the river.
The Flood had risen quite high and made the finds a loillte harder as it gave the cache extre camo.
The day warmed up and we struggled with the amout of mozzies he wanted to join us.
Once we were half way we stopped and had a bite to eat and continued on. I started to rain but we continued on, and it stopped without giving us too much great.
We enjoyed the day out.
A great series thanks Rainbow sprit.

Located at 5:32pm. #1007.

Currently I am a kayak-less Geocacher but the urge to acquire a kayak has been strong of late especially with the Deadman’s Creek Series and now this epic Power Trail in play.

I noted this particular iteration was accessible sans a kayak and thus I tried my hand at it after work. I checked the tide earlier at work to find it was close to low; but certainly heed the warning regarding the mud ;-D.

Cache was signed and replaced with the plentiful muggles and muggle pooches unaware of my actions.

Cheers Rainbow Spirit and cannot wait to complete the rest of this Power Trail with a kayak.

This was my second day attacking this kayak power trail. This time partnered up with Delloro in his two man yak (which allowed my shoulder to recover a bit from yesterday). After the exhausting effort at the start of this trail, we instead started from #100 and made our way upstream, and diverted up prospect creek on the incoming tide. The fast river flow made the trip much easier!
Most were easy finds, some took longer to spot, but we struggled on #74 on the way upstream but luckily passed the grumpy old men who gave us what sounded like an accurate description of where to look on the way back, but we still couldn't spot it until they caught up... grumble grumble...
A great day out and the light rain was quite welcoming.
Thanks for the trail.

This was Day 2 of the GRPT paddle. This time with EverestHigh and his geoson MaxAdventurer. We decided we would tackle the section around the Chipping Norton Lake, and set off from the little beach and managed to easily find #42-50, plus 2 more near the Newbridge Rd Bridge after lunch. A total of 21 in about 5 hours and covered about 8km! Most were located quite easily, though a couple were very close to the water as it was a 1.9m high tide today. #50 was actually under water!

Thanks again for the series, and for getting us out on the water (again)! We used the flow of the tide to make our task easier, but by the end we were exhausted! Lots of km of paddling out there on the lake. With not even half of them done yet, we will be back for sure.

After a welcome lunch break, we saw there were a few just "across the road". We saw that it might be possible to grab them without launching the watercraft again. So we used our resources (ie: the youngster) to make the grab and sign. Might have to add "tree climb" to the attributes? Smile TFTC

Continuing the adventure from Friday 10-Jan...

Started the day with a group breakfast followed by the Castle Glen Reserve CITO. Once these duties were completed, the Grumpy Old Mates (GOM: b@w, PPE and crash) headed back to Chipping Norton to complete what we started on Friday. This time we organised a car shuffle so that we could start at Davy Robinson and finish at Rabaul Rd. With a high tide due at midday, our plan was to go with the tide all the way up Prospect Creek and then return with the tide with a small detour to avenge our DNF at #63. Everything went perfectly to plan

The day was cool with intermittent drizzle and glassy smooth waters. Much more pleasant than Friday's heatwave, wind and choppy conditions. Even better that we did not have to contend with that evil salvinia in the freshwater section!

The caches from #100 to #88 were collected quickly and from there we headed up Prospect Creek where we encountered Noodles22 and delloro on the double yak at around #84 who were already on their way back. We crossed paths a few more times before the day was done. The old bridge from below was amazing and made today's trip even more special. We collected the caches on the way back down, revisiting some that PPE missed on Friday.

All up, we were on the water approx 4 hours today, visited 38 caches and covered approx 14km.

I have to re-iterate my gratitude to the CO for creating such a magnificent powertrail that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Returned today for another section of this new kayak trail, this time in the company of Noodles22.

We did a car drop at #90 then put in the kayak at the parking for #100 and headed off, taking advantage of the incoming tide. Certainly made things a lot easier than paddling through the weeds a couple of days ago - with a 2m tide running the current made for very easy paddling upstream, then into Prospect Creek as far as #86. All fairly straightforward except for #74 - thankfully a flotilla of Grumpy Old Men were in the area and could provide some assistance on our return trip.

With the tide having pretty much peaked it was a nice easy paddle back to the car. We got a nice even 30 caches on the trail today, together with one more we passed along the way.

Once again, thanks for the series, and thanks to Noodles22 for the company.

12-Jan-20
Back again for another mega paddle to collect as many of the remaining caches with B@W and Crash. Once again we signed the logs as Grumpy Old Mates (GOM or GOMP2), however there was nothing to be grumpy about today as the weather was perfect. The tides were with us all the time and the light rain was just glorious; definitely my favourite sections of the PT.
We made very quick time finding the majority of the hides even on the high tide. Even came across another dynamic duo in the form of Noodles and Delloro half way up Prospect creek.
Once again, thanks to the CO for such a fab PT.

Day 2

After the first big day the call went out when GOM (Grumpy Old Mates) would be free for a return visit (So is that GOM2?!). We all had a CITO commitment early in the morning but after that were free and the tides despite being big was favourable.
So Crash2079, PPE and myself launched from near #98 after a car shuffle further up for our later exit.
A short paddle down stream against the tide down to #100 before going with the flow all the wall to Old Bridge on Prospect Creek and catching it back again picking up were to got to the first day. Much better conditions with low temps, no burning sun and mostly no wind although the air quality did at time with the smoke appeared worse than the water quality index in the section just above the weir which is saying something. Some light rain at certain points but welcome and hopefully heavier in other parts of the State and Country. Plenty of fish jumping again and after having seen some of the eating of fish warnings we did wonder about the 3 eyed fish from the Simpsons from what we had seen upstream.
Part way up the creek we saw Delloro and Noodles22 returning from up at the Bridge and had a bit of chat tried to recall the hide at #74 which seems to be giving people a bit of trouble and true to reputation Delloro and Noodles were still at #74 when we return from the bridge and we spotted it in record time.
Great to see the sandstone under the old bridge. Amazing the function it does today compared to when it was first built. Prospect Creel certainly being the pick of the trail.
On the way back we revisited a number PPE did not get on the first outing.
Another great day and again special thanks to Rainbow Spirit for the placement of a real power trail.

Nice day to be out on the water albeit a touch smoky.
Met up with Hillster at Davy Robinson Reserve Boat Ramp and set paddling/peddling.
All fairly easy to find, some took longer than others.
Met up with Wilbert67 out on the hunt as well.
A good challenge would be for someone to attempt to do the whole series in one day but me thinks would be impossible.

Out for the day on the water with 3mu. Lucky for us the tides was in our favor. Nice hide however it was under water at high tide. I was lucky to see the attachment device. TFTC Rainbow Spirit.

I'll come by one day and raise the cache, if possible could the next finder raise it up about 200mm and note it in their log. All the cache logs are on proper waterproof paper, and the containers are somewhat waterproof. One day there will be a flood through here and we will see just how waterproof they really are!

Heading for a big day on the water. Parked at the closed boat ramp and soon was making my way up the river. Thought I was going to smash the hole series, but after 3 to 4 Hours had to seriously re consider that plan!! I think one would be pushing his luck and I am reasonably fit. Spent 6.5 hours on the water and did 19 km in total. All caches found quick and easy except 1, but that turned out to be a first to find.

I had gotten wind that RS was up to something about a week ago during a quick PAF conversation with him. Even so i was suitably impressed when i checked my phone early this morning and found dozens of notifications for newly published caches.
Not having a kayak myself i studied the map to find some that could possibly be accessed from shore and headed out.
After heading towards my first pick i decided that it might be best left for another day but 98 turned out to be a decent choice.
At the GZ i could see generally where the cache was going to be and as i had the area to myself so i pulled off my shoes and socks, hitched up my pants and waded in.
It took me a couple of minutes of searching but i soon spotted the cache.
After signing i headed back to shore sat on a log to put my shoes back on only for it to tip back and send me butt first into the river. So much for keeping my pants dry.
Thanks Rainbow Spirit.
