The Trip: Brisbane to Townsville. Delivering a car, bought in Brisbane, to friends in Townsville. Apparently Townsville sucks as a place to buy cars but it does turn out to be a Geocaching mecca!Day 1: A 12 hour slog through rain and never ending potholes. Turns out it was a rain event with the heaviest falls since 1999 is some areas. Which I might have known about has I bothered to listen to the news . But it did make for an exciting drive. The early trick I learned was to *always* make sure I had gunea pig cars in front of me to follow and watch as they dodged potholes (some nearly the size of the whole lane )Day 2: I stayed overnight at the Barracrab Caravan Park at Clairview, a lovely old park with a restaurant/bar right on the beach and started out first thing in the morning to find four out of five attempted caches in the Clareview area.Day 3: Stayed at City Oasis Inn and went for this cache as a morning walk that was a little bit more of an ascent than I thought it would be Great fun, good exercise, great view!
Found it on the QLD roundtrip.Put in a blue flag and many TB/Coins from Europe.TFTH
A nice find for today. The grass was a bit overgrown so we ended up with some itchy legs, but worth it to log this cache! TFTC
Brilliant View today. Tanks for bringing us here. Found it SL. Enjoying a caching holiday in Townsville with mackay_geocaching. Thanks to the COs for the puzzles that they have created and brain strain to solve them. Puzzles mostly been solved prior to this visit. Happy New Year fellow cachers.*Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*
Great view. Great concept. Walked in with the early morning sun before it gets too hot (and I'm working). Easy one but well designed and a favourite from me..Tanks!
Caching in the area we pick up a few caches along the way and this was one of them.
Once at GZ Mrs "T" worked out the code for the key and Mr "T" gained access to the log book, a great hide, enjoyed the view. Enjoyed exploring the area, cache and contents were in good condition.
Many thanks for placing this cache and adding to our geocaching experience today.

stunning view. Really appreciate what Townsville does with infrastructure and making the city vivid, interesting with lots of great trails.

Was keen for this one due to the cache size and a leg stretch up the steps to GZ. I missed the container on first approach, duh, but knottsav had his eyes open. Did the thing, evicted the gecko and added our names. Grabbed the unactivated reviewer TB and knottsav activated it later. Great views up here, and the streams of footie fans streaming from the stadium post the Broncos defeat was a sight to behold.
A weekend of sporadic caching opportunities with work and tasks being interspersed through that time. Managed to get put a couple of times today, not huge numbers but enough to get me within 4 of my 16k target for this visit to QLD. Two more Ad Labs completed, and their bonus ? accompanying caches. Thanks to all COs for their caches, and the fun involved with finding.

Visiting Townsville for a few days. The weather if the last couple of days meant our. Aching plans were curtailed but sunshine today means we can pick up a targeted list.
Loved this one, cracking views and a fun little gadget.

Whoa! What a beautiful outlook from up here! Saw the cache from the ground… very nearly didn’t go to get it because of long scratchy grass and the potential for snakes
Have to laugh.
I spent an hour 18 metres away from here 2 days ago filming the sunrise.
Really must check the GPS
Back today and soon had a cache in hand
I think the padlock needs some TLC

I took one of my dogs for a walk this morning to find this cache. I was very impressed with the cache size and the way it was concealed. Sadly there was no lock in place so it was very straight forward to open. I am very glad that I made this find before the rain set in for the morning as I would have gotten wet if I saved it for my lunch break. This cache has earnt a FP from me because it has beautiful views, great graffiti art and awesome cache container. Thanks for another great hide BenM70.
Quick trip out with the Flexi crew after lunch.
A few inspected the item closer to the tank before trusting the GPS.
After a couple of attempts the code was cracked and the bounty revealed.
Everyone enjoyed the large, well stocked container and the views.
Thanks Ben.

Out with the flexi group was a really clever hiding spot and a very nice view. Thanks for the find
Visiting from Victoria and had a few hours to kill before heading for the airport. We'd stayed at a backpackers lodge close by and thought a hike up the hill will pass the time. We both thought, this would be a good spot for a cache and had a look if any were here. Hurrah! We cracked open the box and found two decent sized lizards in there, one dropped off the lid as we opened it and gave me a fright.
Thanks for the cache, the lock and key may need some lubricating as it's a bit stiff.

Came here for the Adventure Lab and discovered that there was a cache here as well. Had to reread the hint after multiple attempts to unlock failed. Answer found. TFTC All clean and dry.
Yet another day on the bikes, riding into town to check out the Ferry to magnetic Island, and have a spot of lunch somewhere.
Came up this way on the bikes when heading home, have passed by here so many times over the past 3 weeks, but not high enough to make the find, as we were also doing the adv lab, grabb
Thanks BenM70 for the caches.

Total Cache Finds 12885,
Tanks Townsville! Probably the last cache for this trip. Back again some time I'm sure. I swear this was painted before 2012 . I had a friend in HS who was terrified of frogs and hated driving past here. They've done a great job on the stairs up. Tftc
Catching up with late logs.
Today we were out and about caching with Geoturtle37, Papi4506 & micaparamedic planning an easy day with some sight seeing and some targeted targeted caches that we wanted to get.
Hoping that we would be able to getup here for the mega and having so much time with all our lock downs in Melbourne we concentrated on trying to solve as many puzzles as possible hoping that the borders would open.
We were nearby collecting an ad lab point and saw that this one was nearby. We soon sorted out what need to be done to add our names to the log.
To save room in the log we signed as "The Vics"
Thanks BenM70 for the cache.

Day 11 of our trek to the Townsville Mega and back with fitzy_1965 and two of my geo-kids Death_killer & my_name_jeff_1.
Today is our last day in Townsville. We cleaned up as many of the caches we wanted to do before leaving tomorrow. This included heading a bit further North to grab a couple more counties. A lot of driving but a satisfying day. We signed some challenges, did a bit of fishing, and collected a number of adventure labs along the way.
All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned. Thanks to all the CO’s.

27,831. Found with minniek during our Grand Townsville Trek up to CacheQLD's Townsville Mega Event over Easter.
Day 11 of our Townsville Trek, and we managed quite a few caches around Townsville today as well as a trip north to grab a few additional Counties, then back to Townsville for more caching. Despite the large number of roadworks going on we made good time. This cache was the last for the day, and found while waiting for Chinese to cook - by iPhone light. Quick find at GZ for this one. Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, then continued along to the restaurant and dinner.
Thanks BenM70 !!

Day 13 of the road trip to Townsville to with LuckyL10n and today all about the caches around town.
The day after the main event of the trip had finished and the last day in town before we drive back to Canberra...but we taking 7 days so all is not lost. We headed out around town grabbing a few challenge caches, a few more high D/T caches and other caches that we drove past. We were joined by fitzy_1965 and minniek for part of the day, having a more relaxed approach to the day....but of course, all still good fun.
Many thanks again to the CO's or all caches...and hope you've enjoy reading all the logs...cut n past and individual ones.

#14183; Day thirteen of the Townsville Mega adventure with Sol de lune. The plan for our final day in Townsville was to collect some challenge caches, along with some different D/T rated caches, along with solved puzzles and others on our "to do" list. Joined at various times by fitzy_65, minniek and smittengranny as we made our way around today. Collected 2 DNFs on an otherwise successful day. Unless indicated in the log, the cache was found in good order. Apologies for the largely generic logs. TFTC BenM70
Thoroughly enjoyed the Lab Cache which this Bonus Cache is associated with. Arrived at GZ and in a short time the cache was found. TFTC BenM70 and giving a FP
During the Easter long weekend, it was all about the Townsville Mega event! Highlights included a hike at Cape Pallarenda Conservation Peak, walks atop the local mountains of Mount Stuart, Castle Hill, and Mount Louisa, checking out a few shady spots along Ross River, sewer pipe / tunnel adventures, and a scuba dive to see the Museum of Underwater Art at John Brewer Reef. The Mega events themselves were fantastic: Gadget lab caches, GPS maze, trivia night, tree planting CITO, and Cal's Escape Room. There was also plenty of geocaching to be had, such as power trailing through the geoarts The Saint and the Book, and the collection of challenge caches at Bushland Beach mudflats. My view of Townsville had completely changed from my trip experience, and much kudos to the Cache Qld Townsville Mega Committee.
Following our visit north of Rowes Bay which included Pallarenda, we decided to spend the rest of the morning heading up to Castle Hill, hoping to use the current moderate temperature before the heat and humidity would set in the afternoon (or on another day). After making a stop halfway up, we then parked at the summit's lookout, and then admired the views of Townsville. We then took a descent down the hill, and proceeded to walk around its base along the trails.
After our walk, we parked nearby to this cache, and it wasn't long before we were able to gain access to inside this cache. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. We decided to sign the geocache as DWEG1 (Davidwazza and e.gregory1) to save space in the logbook. Thanks BenM70 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance. Some more terrific views from this location.

**This Cache:**
Oh my, oh my!
Another cache that had me speechless.
Didn't expect such great views up here, but great to get another perspective other than Castle Hill! Then the artwork on the tank also caught my attention of course, just beautiful.
And the cache!? A large, locked box in the perfect spot. I thought the way the key to the cache was locked outside was pretty cool too. Accessed it easily, and the cache was soon open.
FAVOURITE. Spectacular cache

**Today:**
Day 13 of my road trip from Canberra - Townsville Mega Event!
**Found with sebass19**
Another full day of caching, this time we focused around central Townsville itself, including the Strand, Castle Hill and Townsville South. We started the day off with the CITO at Rowes Bay, but only 30 minutes into the starting time the trees were already planted, so that was a shorter event than expected.
We cached into the darkness once more until we had done another "loop" of everything on the must-do list and ended up back near our accomodation!
Found while in Townsville to attend the Mega event.
I travelled up from Adelaide, taking a week or so so get here, meeting up with FeatherWaite to do some caching around the Cunnamulla area then continuing on to Barcaldine and Charters Towers.
While in Townsville I teamed up with Budgietas, Stainless-steel-rat and Gooseandegg on some days, including a day on Magnetic Island, and with Davidwazza at other times. When caching with Davidwazza, logbooks were signed DWEG1.
All in all it was a terrific week or so in Townsville, with plenty of great caches found.
Thanks BenM70 for the puzzle and the cache.

We said goodbye to Nyssaflutterby and wombles and we then set about doing some of the town caches while it was still quiet.
We were so glad to come here today. We viewed here last night and decided we really had to make it up here. What great views and a great container.

Out and about for a day of caching in Townsville with swearah and stephyy. This one was our first stop for the day. We all spotted the likely hide and swearah accessed the log book. Tftc BenM70????
Great spot and what a wonderful canvas. I was tempted to go under the fence but noticed the camera warnings. Thanks BenM70.
Do we really want to climb all those stairs? Of course, the view will be worth it and the cache too. Found the box unlocked but okay and freed the key nevertheless to lock it up properly.

Teamed up with Tour de Ville this arvo to grab a few more caches around town. A nicely constructed cache that works when you push the button down on the lock…I was tired, it had been a long day. Nice view up here too, both of the tank and surrounds. Log signed and replaced eve where it belongs. Tftc BenM70
Great View, although I mucked something up and we took a little longer to finish this cache than we should have.
Reminder - dont drop the key in the bushes next time
All good at the end

This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

OMG we had some dramas here. SSR couldn't open the lock with the numbers I gave him. I had a few more sets up my sleeve but budgie tried and it sprung open sending the small contents flying. No amount of scraping at the ground could find it. I returned to the 4x4 and grabbed a small TOTT and retuned with it. Meanwhile SSR has realized the actual cache wasn't locked so had logged us all. I handed over my TOTT and within a few seconds we heard the sound of something magnetic. Sure enough the key was on the end of my TOTT so we were able to lock the cache and return the key correctly. Crisis averted!
Thanks BenM70
A ten day mega trip was arranged with Stainless steel rat and Budgietas. We flew into Cairns and out of Mackay, with the majority of the time in and around Townsville. We found a huge variety of caches and although our find count was a little lower than we would have liked, some of the high D/T caches more than made up for that. I really appreciate the effort of the local COs and all the people involved in hosting the mega and associated activities. I enjoyed catching up with many of our caching buddies, and make some new ones too!
Thanks for a great mega trip!

Friday was our 6th day in Queensland and today the main target was the Saint Series of puzzles, we also fitted in a few other caches at the start and end of the day.
This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!
Thanks for the cache.

After taking our time to make way to Townsville for the MEGA Event we were able to find a lot of caches enroute. Tour de Ville we're targeting a specialised list as there was just too many caches. Found a safe access point and headed up to witness a great view and a clever hide. Some we had the cache in hand and signing the log before replacing as found. TFTC
Seeing the tank from below we were expecting the access to require more effort. After all, nothing on Castle Hill is an easy access. We were pleasantly surprised when we found you could drive right up to the tank. a short walk later we were at the GZ and invested time in working out the require access strategy. Ahh ... there it is!
Thanks Ben for this cache and the beautiful view over Townsville city.

Another day in Townsville for the Mega and Tour de Ville are hunting targetted caches from the list. Parked nearby and made our way to GZ. Spied the hide and then worked out how to gain access. What a clever hide. SL then returned as found.
A fav point from me.

After a big day at Pallarenda, and despite the fact that I couldn’t walk straight, and Davinells was starting to look like she’d left her Emotional Support Water Bottle in Toowoomba we joined the other members of Tour de Ville for a raid around the city…
Thanks for another great cache during the event known as Mega…
A nicely constructed final…easily another fave point left behind in The Ville… lucky I’ve been saving them up for months the way I’m dropping them…
Log signed as Tour de Ville & Davinells… ??
We so need a stamp…

Found with the MEGATRONS consisting of dahumbug, bella at waggy, crash and tardis...log to follow.
Sorry, I will endeavour to regress and write a decent log on most caches.
Thank you

MEGA trip - day 1
After an early morning flight for a week of caching in Townsville, we hit the ground running on the trails of Castle Hill. Have already seen more blue sky in the last hour than had been seen in Sydney for the past month. Needless to say not quite acclimatised yet and already feeling like a change of clothing.
It seems that we gained easier access to the log book than intended, but we'll take that - thanks. Always great to add another one to the large tally.

I made a quick find here and was surprised to find a key for a certain cache inside. Thanks for the cache
We needed a big container to drop off the key to the TB Key Cache and this promised to do the job. Not only that this cache came with stunning views, gusty wind and some cool street art. But first we had to find it.. Sometimes you just overlook the obvious. An all round great cache. TFTC BenM70, FP! Dropped off TB Key.
Found by Mary and David at 12:40 on our drive from Bowen to Townsville. We were up here finishing an Ad Lab, and saw that this was nearby. A solid container and a great view. Gets a FP. Our thanks to BenM70.
Townsville to attend the Mega Event
Day 2
Today we teamed up with pprass to drive into The Strand area to do a couple of AL a few puzzle caches that we had solve before leaving home.
This is a really beautiful area of town that has some amazing views.
We stopped for a fish & chip lunch before completing our day out.
Thankyou BenM70 for placing this cache.

Found at 1:59 PM GAFF1 in the company of DiMorgan.
We came up here to see if we could get access to the Maidenhair Track and when we finished with that we headed over to find this cache which had us a bit confused for a short moment - are we really being videod?
Thanks BenM70.

Down doing a speedy raid on Townsville to get enough points to make it up Mt Everest.
Used the CO,s recommended parking location and was soon at GZ, had the right code and quickly had my name in the log.
A well put together cache.
Many thanks to the CO for the puzzle and cache.

Don’t think too much or you won’t get it. First ever large cache found so very exciting for the kids
A great cache at the end of the day. I didn't work out the clue for the key, but tried a few logical combinations and was instantly successful.

Day six of my road trip and day four in Townsville. The plan today was to just drive around town collecting target caches from my list and working my way to my 6000th cache. There was a lot of backtracking and walking trails but it was a very rewarding day, thank you.
Working my way around town I had a few target caches to collect and then there was a few I collected as I passed. So the next part of my plan today was to go on a short walking tour of the east side of castle hill. I would take in some great views and collect “steps”, some Japanese title cache, “tanks for the view Townsville” and “games we play”.
After completing “steps” and that Japanese title cache, I wondered around to grab this one. There is a lot of work being conducted on the trails and at GZ, but no one cared about me wondering around. There is a big sign on the cache which was funny but also alarming. I read the hint and was still confused, checking the obvious solutions I still had nothing. If anything about caching in Townsville has taught me is to take every TOTT with you to every cache. So I used a different tool to unlock the cache today, then used the same method to lock it back up, might not be as proposed but the aim is to get too the cache, lol. All good with the cache and with log signed and all replaced as found I was off to the next target. Thanks for this cache and the views are very different in this area. A favourite point for this cache.

Oiled combo lock. Once code entered press the button between the shackle and the left side releases.
With overseas travel currently out of the question and state border closures still a lurking as possibilities, my family and some close friends decided that travelling to North Queensland was our best option for a Christmas/New Year escape.
We arrived in Townsville yesterday afternoon and this morning I headed out early before sunrise to grab some caches around Castle Hill while the rest of the family were still in bed asleep. It was then time to head back to collect the family to drop them off for the ferry to Magnetic Island. With that job done, I was free to continue my day geocaching, so headed back to Castle Hill to finish off my to-do list there.
The camouflage on the cache container threw me for a while and like Crookedpete before me, was nervous of being watched while I hunted for the cache. Eventually the penny dropped and I approached the cache. Thinking I knew how to access it, I still couldn't get the lock to release. Sure I was correct, I realised a little more force was needed and the lock soon popped open giving me access inside to sign my name. TFTC

Every year, my trip to visit my in laws in Townsville for Christmas provides a chance to unwind, get a bit sweaty and find a few local caches. And with the quality of the caches on offer here, I always look forward to the trip.
I remember the previous cache here which I found in my first year of caching in early 2013. Arriving here today, I realised the mural on the tanks has changed since then, I even went back to my old log to check the photo.
For those playing along at home, here is the link to the old cache

In the 90's, I was crazy enough to mountain bike down this face of Castle Hill (the goat track was a favourite downhill ride - when it was really a goat track before the stairs and upgrades). Sometimes, we would divert to this tank and occasionally, we would brave the rock slab at the end of Blackwood street. I have scars of my elbow from one misadventure there.
Enough reminiscing. I smiled when I arrived at GZ. Even spent a minute looking for the camera. The outer container had been gemmied open and unlocked, but everything was still intact inside. After completing duties, I retrieved the key and managed to lock the out container again. Key and lock could do with a bit of WD40, but otherwise all is good here.
Many thanks, BenM70

Wow! I have driven past this area for much of my life and always wondered if you could get up there... of course there is a cache up there!
Had no idea about this cache but went on the hunt for the RRPT TB Key Cache trackable as I want to tackle it this weekend and it led me to this spot. Had to smile as I saw the cache for the first time because well.... it told me to
Loved the easy little field puzzle and the even harder puzzle of trying to figure out which way the key needed to be inserted absolutely loved the view. Got the TB I wanted too! Will give a favourite point when I have one absolve

Man, this cache had us thinking for longer than it should’ve! Never going to complain when the view is that nice, though. Inside the cache was three little gecko guardians, so we were careful not to upset them too much. Great adventure, TANKS FOR THE CACHE!
Replaced the lock, discovered an antelope TB and dropped off another TB while i was there
Tanks for the view BenM70 TFTC
Such an awesome location for a Travel Bug Hotel so to speak!! I realised when I got to GZ & spied the geocache that I shouldn’t have brought my geomunchkins, I had a panic attack. Heights are a concern as I have PTSD from a fall from 12-15m I had 14 years ago. So while overcast windy & a little drizzly my geomunchkins MissCharlieBear & AmazingGracieGrace stayed underneath the view with their umbrellas keeping things dry ~ while I took a deep breath or many & finally found the above them & got to where I needed to be. They could see me & I them. Left GZ got to the geomobile but realised I forgot my trackable code, so as we went back up drizzle stopped & my geomunchkins took in the view & thought it was amazing... so high up they said! But beware lots of broken glass about this place.
Signed log, Took SWAG, left SWAG. Dropped a Travel Bug. Sorry I didn’t feel like smiling…
I’ve messaged CO due to an issue best resolved by him & cried a bit on the way home. Sometimes we have wonderful euphoric experiences whilst Geocaching, & sometimes we don’t. However the tank paintings & view are so worth the trip up here!

When driving past, I always wondered if it’s possible to get up there and say hello. Beautiful location and great cache. Thank you very much for showing.
TFTC!! I loved being challenged, and the view is unreal! Never would have visited this spot if not for this cache! Took some earrings and left some alcohol wipes for the Carona -phobes out there!
Thanks for the cache! Loved the view
I took 3 TBs, one which had the goal of getting to Melbourne University which I can do!

Still one of my favourite caches in Townsville. Took greyfire326 up here during a break in the rain. Dropped 3 TB off.
Back in Townsville on 22/02/2020 to pick up a repaired musical instrument, something from the shops and a cache or more. Just 1 cache as it turned out as the weather set in. Took a min to find the right order and effort required to unlock the cache. Good to see a large one in the city. Pretty sure we found the ICP one up here very early on a day where we found 25 different dxt combos - a while ago, long before the new stadium. Logged the TBs present, took 2 and left 1. Headed off as the next shower approached over the bay. Thanks BenM70.
Wow this is not only a great cache but a great location to look over the city to the new stadium. Let alone the awesome mural. Well done BenM70, this was fun to do and a cool cache to boot. Definitely a FP for this one. TFTC
