Cheeky cache before we go to Dubai

11-Sep-24
Had the day off to attend a doctor's appointment for my grandmother. Decided to head out early and go for a walk around Orakei Basin beforehand. I'm glad it was quiet on this hidden path. Had no trouble locating the cache. The resident ants weren't happy though.

08-Sep-24
Out with Daddypig for our weekly Sunday morning walk and after finding the AdLab bonus cache we headed up here. The smell of the jasmine is quite intense. We found the cache straight away in the first place we looked.

11-Aug-24
**22,004**We were in the area and this disabled cache was showing on the GPS, thought we would give it the quick once over and found it the first place we looked - it was exactly what we were expecting. So the CO can advise, its still good to go, no need for archiving Mr Coddiwompler! Big Grin. TFTC

11-Aug-24
Thanks to Geckho for checking on this, all good here!

21-Feb-24
I came back here hoping to avenge a DNF from a year ago. I had more time today for a better look. I dug into the leaf litter and looked around the fence posts but still couldnt find it.

05-Oct-23
Could not find

27-Aug-23
Searched high and low all along the fence line, no luck this time.

26-Aug-23
Cut my search short as fence very overgrown and Saturday walkers kept coming by.

23-Jul-23
TFTC! Didn’t sign the log because a big scary weta was guarding it and we didn’t not want to disturb him.

30-May-23
Quick easy find. Muddy track. TFTC

Nice hide, looks very realistic.
But was lying on the ground when I found it. Fixed as good as possible.

Found by lutin09 and lutin13 together !!

18-Feb-23
Out for a walk around Orakei Basin with AliGle and took a look for this along the way. I had found one of the previous versions of this cache, so had an idea of what I'd be looking for and spotted the cache several metres from GZ,. TFTC!

18-Feb-23
Walking around the basin with Vistra and took a short dog leg off the path to grab this cache. Spotted without difficulty. Tftc

12-Feb-23
I walked around Orakei Basin with my family and doing the AL along the way. I had DNFs for all of the caches I looked for so not a very successful morning. This one may be there but it’s very overgrown and I didn’t have the time to take more than a few minutes of searching.

26-Nov-22
In the area tonight as a side perk to being uber for the teen, and not worth the trek back home before needing to do the pickup......

Onward to collecting anything in the area that didn't look too difficult, as am after numbers tonight.

The cache was all good.

TFTC.

I remember trying to get this one years ago and not realising which level it was on. No problems today. Thanks for this cache, which we got after finishing the Ad lab.

21-Jul-22
Fun camo, it took a minute to find. Thanks!

14-Jul-22

26-Jun-22
A nice quick find once I found the way up from the basin! Thanks.

Ms_KR are I off to the big smoke for a holiday, visiting rellies and cruising around town.

Found it instantly, w/o the hint!

11-May-22
In the area today completing the nearby Ad Lab, and seeing this cache was no more than 70m away, I thought "Sweet, another smiley sounds superb to me!"... But the real question was, "How to access this cache from the path down below?". I had two options - The easy way (Following the path), or the harder way which involved climbing up the bank... You know me - it's always the way with the more challenging terrain. With it being Autumn, there were SO many loose leaves underfoot which made it really hard to climb, but I eventually hauled myself up and arrived on the grassy track Smile

Just as I looked up, I noticed a large dog staring at me off a person's deck, but I seriously just thought this was a statue! I got one massive fright when the dog started howling and barking at me. He really wasn't fond of me because he just wouldn't let up! I ran the 20m to this cache and instantly spotted the hide Smile Quickly signed myself in before replacing as found and running off, because I could see the dog's owner had come out :O TFTC G-2!

Not often do I get more than 1 cache on a weekday, but when you're on a long streak of 72 days in a row, you need to switch things up and keep it interesting... So this afternoon/evening, I decided to come over to this side of the bridge and cache around the Orakei Basin area Smile It's such a pretty location and I thoroughly enjoyed walking around the place, especially since there was such a gorgeous sunset! A total of 12 finds were made today including 5 trads, 5 AL's and 2 mystery's... Thanks to all CO's for their hides Big Grin

22-Apr-22
Nice

15-Apr-22
Draffin and I were in conversation and walked right pass it. However it wasn't difficult to find and it was exposed. Put it back the best I could to what would have been awesome camo, typical G-2 fashion. Tftc

15-Apr-22
Having just found a few other caches in the area, B4Dawn and I went to grab this on the way back to our cars. We nearly walked straight passed it, so backed up and the cache was quickly spotted thanks to the hint, TFTC!

15-Apr-22
359. Cool little cache. Lovely place for a walk!

22-Feb-22
We were looking for a place to explore to get the souvenir for today - 22.2.22 and we realised we had not been for a walk around the basin here. We decided to do the adventure lab here with NZT, and picked up this cache along the way. We remember finding a cache nearby here in the past, and were happy to make the find here today.

22-Feb-22
We wanted to get the Deuces Wild - 2's Day Souvenir and thought a walk around Oraki basin to collect the nearby Lab cache and finding this cache would fulfil the requirement.

Did this with the HeMaLuDys and Mr HeMaLuDy made the find spotting it while approaching GZ.

The log was signed.

Another significant milestone here is this is the FIRST offical visit to a cache for the newly activated GeoDog MAX trackable.

Even though Max has accompanied us on previous finds (he already has a couple of FTF's under his belt) this was the FIRST log in his personal trackable. Max is VERY keen to do more caching Big Grin

30-Jan-22
Beautiful view from the top. There were many wake boarders on the water today. TFTC Smile

18-Jan-22
I was in the area today so I thought I'd try to pick this one up. On approach to the gz I spotted something that didn't look quite right for where I was. Sure enough, that was the cache. Nice construction, and the previous cachers weren't kidding about the views. Gorgeous up here (even though it wasn't too much of a climb to get there). Thanks!

08-Jan-22
Clever cache. Mr dog helped me find it.

06-Jan-22
#10,601. I was over here in the afternoon doing the adventure lab in the basin. As I walked back to the car I saw this traditional cache. Thought that sounded familiar. Got to GZ and I remembered doing one here previously. The description explains it all. So made for a very quick and easy find second time round. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks G-2 for reinstating the cache.

Its been a busy week and lockdown is just dragging on so decided to head out with the other half for the evening without the kids! After chilling with some drinks on the beach we decided to find some caches 'on the way home'.

Initially wondered whether we would have to scale the mountainside but checked the D/T and knew this was highly unlikely. Soon found the path and that was MUCH easier!!

The neighbouring property was having a big party so we snuck past and kept low so they didn't notice us. Took me a few minutes to find the right spot but then all was clear....aha there you are!

Signed log, all returned, checked out the view and twinkly lights and we snuck back out past the party.

31-Oct-21
We made a slight detour to find this cache while doing the Orakei Basin Ad Labs with Team Welsh this morning. Must have missed one of the versions, as this is the third Johnny that we have found at this spot. Thanks.

31-Oct-21
Was doing the orakei basin lab cache and stopped off here with a slight diversion. Incredible views from here. TFTC

Thank you from Howard and Kath

17-Apr-21
Out today doing the adventure lab in the area, and of course had to grab some other caches along the way. Made my way up to this one and took a moment to enjoy the view before making the grab. I quickly spotted something that didn't look right and had the cache in hand. Thanks for the cache, another great hide. Lovely view too.

23-Mar-21
Making my way around the Orakei Basin AL and remembered that I'd seen this on the map too. It was 120m back in the direction I'd come but not too much of a detour so I came up and signed it. Quick find here and all intact. TFTC

21-Mar-21
cleaver little hide, great view from up here

13-Mar-21
Haven't been back up this way for years, and one of my first finds way back....in the dark ages...

cheers V.

07-Feb-21
On the loop around here and this was just up from where the car was parked. Nice and easy and replaced as found. T F T C G-2

A plan to improve todays 5 day to a better number of 10 meant we had a large range of choices. As it's been a few years since I last headed up Mt Eden, we decided to head up here and afterwards mrs c decided that Orakei Basin would be a nice loop walk to complete after out lunch out at Churly's. A good day for walking, albeit a little otter than I thought it would be.

06-Feb-21
Part of a lovely walk around this area. Found the cache on the ground in pieces, signed and put back together in the appropriate place. Thanks G-2

25-Jan-21
Good camo

24-Jan-21
I have spent most of the day getting up Auckland's peaks to claim CyclicalCaching's lab cache. Boy that's taken some work and walking. Loved it.

Now I have made a start on the lab cache around Orakei Basin and thought I would make the little jaunt up the hill from there. Didn't get far when the heavens opened up and I had to take shelter behind a big tree. I got wet but with the heat I was soon dry. Good fun!

Got to GZ and found the rather cool little cache, nice work here G. Had a good look round, never saw Johnny B Cash writing, would have taken a foto if I did see it. A FP from me for the cache and the view.

18-Jan-21
Great to see this cache is back up and running. Cache was 'unseated' so have reset it. Cheers

10-Jan-21
Found the very nice walk and got to the GZ but could not find the words. However the cache was easily found and log signed. Took the TB to further its travels.

03-Jan-21
Good find

18-Dec-20
After 2 DNF I really wanted to find one today.
Thanks

06-Dec-20
Having a walk around the basin today, and collected this on the way , Tftc

06-Dec-20
We were walking around the basin doing an Adventure Lab and saw this one was up the hill so diverted to look for it.
We thought we had seen an otter swimming in the basin but when it emerged it turned out to be a large rat, which was another reason for the diversion.
Great views from up here, and no rats. TFTC.

03-Dec-20
Easy find thank you for cache orakei sea scouts

29-Nov-20
A quick walk up the hill.
Soon had it in hand.

23-Nov-20
Its was a case of deja vu coming here again. I came here on a secret mission with Merlot which was a good move because she knew the best path to lead up to here from the lower car park. I think last time I parked on the higher level originally. Tftc G-2.

13-Sep-20
Out for a quick cache loop with Tramyard.

Easily found this cache.

Thanks for the fun!

13-Sep-20
A little bit dejavu at GZ. Cache was laying apart. Replaced as per CO intention.

I remember finding a cache here some yearsa ago.Found this one on the ground, so after completing the formalities returned it to its home. Thanks G-2

31-Jul-20
I used to flat over the other side of the basin and as kids we would swim in there and be nibbled on by the eels. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. It's great to see the development over the years. TFTC

05-Jul-20
Headed out with Merlot58 before the wet weather set in. It was getting very blustery as we walked up the hill to gz. We spotted something on our approach and sure enough this was the cache. The people in the houses must have been wondering what we were up to as they watched us firstly go up the hill, and a short time later retreat down the hill.

05-Jul-20
I remember finding the previous cache here a long time ago so a super quick find here

13-Jun-20
Needed to find a quick cache today and noticed we still needed to find this one. When we arrived nearby and parked up the car we quickly realised we had found the previous cache here.So quickly made our way to GZ and spotted this great cameo on our approach.Shame we dont have time to walk around here this evening.Always liked it here.

06-Jun-20
I was in the general area for a family event today, so, decided to make the small detour here before heading for home. I parked up and my phone crashed and it started to rain. Well, I assume that the hide is similar to the previous iterations so I made a brisk walk to GZ. My assumption proved solid and I made a super quick find. Cheers for the cache placement!

30-May-20
I was walking back to the cachemobile from checking out a nearby puzzle final when I noticed this trad which hadn't been molested by me. So I certainly solved that situation.

Cheers for the cache.

23-May-20
So good to be caching after lockdown Tftc

10-May-20
Pretty sure we did this one many years ago! We remembered what it was last time and soon spotted a similar (same?) thing. Soon signed and replaced on this gorgeous sunny Sunday. Lots of people out walking but not at this spot! TFTC

20-Mar-20
When I saw the hide, yup I remember coming here before some time ago as well, nice to see the hide getting reused, TFTC

17-Mar-20
I (foolishly) followed Google Maps to the lower parking area. This made for a steep climb to get to GZ. I should have read supernannny's log before I went (or maybe a parking waypoint is in order from the CO). TFTC.

Easy find here thanks.... I remember coming here years ago...
Came to lower level first...then realised easier from Upland rd...

17-Feb-20
Kiwi working the night shift. Midnight run during a break to collect our daily cache with the chance of an added extra. Do not remember ever being here before. If we have found any of the previous versions it must have been Scotty who managed that feat.

Beautiful calm night for a wander. Got to gz a couple of minutes early so needed to waste some time admiring the view. “How's the serenity? So much serenity” which unfortunately was disturbed momentarily by a passing train heading towards Panmure on the far side of the lagoon. Did not realise we would be so high up and was very conscious of not taking a wrong step in the dark. Anyway the clock ticked over to a new day and the cache was then quickly in hand. Neat little hide. Log signed - Daily cache sorted & Kiwiscots (FTF) coin visited. TFTC Smile
