Another day of the Canberra mega and another day racing around collecting caches of different types, sizes and terrains. Today I spent most of the day with Bluewattle and Snickersallan, however the day was spread out with other people and cache types. It was another big day with some very nice tree climbs and some fun little walks. We mostly worked around the area on caches we solved or had a little time to solve. It was a great day and a lot of laughs and continuous jokes during the day.We started with a technical tree climb in the park. Then an event with a walk around a mountain before a very technical climb that I was asked to do. We then continued our walk around the mountain before heading off to grab some further selected caches. We signed the logs and replaced caches as we found them, thanks for the hides. This was a fun little multi and it was not long before I had a solve on it. OH WHAT THE HELL, ANOTHER TREE CLIMB. It was the end of the day and I was beaten up already from a big day of climbs and walks. We saw the cache from the ground and I said ok I'm going and it was a nice climb, a little "sappy" but ok. Thanks and a favourite point here.
After a lovely morning spent with geo friends and a lunch break, I teamed up with Bluewattle and chamad to continue on with our to-do list.A nice easy solve but a much harder retrieval process. However, chamad was more than happy to reach for the skies and take some more bark off his arms on the way back down.Thank you, DARKSIDEDAN, for placing this beaut little multi
My day started off with a technical tree climb, then a bunch of paddling. Finished collecting random targets around town before calling it a day while absolutely exhausted! Met up with Chamad, Snickersallan and Bluewattle for this cache. TFTC.
Tree climbing completed without damage to cache or persons. The trip bit.Easter geocaching festival of twenty twenty four. This time it is the turn of Oz Mega GeoBash MEGA event in the nation's capital. It is time for a road trip across country to Canberra in the Sporty Pajero Sports. Freddo and Gridge98 traveling from Adelaide via a strange inland route that takes in scenic rural locations, dusty roads, punctured tyres, overheating batteries, various tools of the trade, special campgrounds, and lots scope for many many geocaching finds. Along the way we saw running emus, jumping kangaroos, wandering deer, dead foxes, herds of wooly sheep and stray steers.Arriving in Canberra we met our colleagues e.gregory1, featherwaite, team walron, courtney rose, davidwazza, e_smilie, and georode, signing as ABP, plus a huge group of other like minded excited mega geocachers attending event after event, and more events.Day one. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. Found on our journey over the week here. This weekend was mega weekend and we headed over with Courtneyrose_ Freddo, Team Waldron, e.gregory1, Davidwazza and Featherwaite as part of our team called: ABP (Alphabet People), the log books were either signed with the name, ABP or our individual caching names.A great weekend away in the capital and a very well organised mega, it was nice to be back in the ACT caching once again over easter with great weather. Thanks for the cache
In Canberra for the Easter GeoBash Mega. Our team cosisted of Team Waldron, Featherwaite, E.Gregory1, Freddo, Gridgre98, DavidWazza, CourtneyRose. Logs were signed as ABP.We travelled far and wide had a great time. Thanks to the organising committee and all the cache owners.TFTC
Found during the Mega event in Canberra over the Easter long weekend. Our team comprised courtneyrose_, Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Featherwaite, Freddo, gridge98 and Team Waldron, signing the logs as ABP to save time and space in the logbooks , or with our individual caching names. Enjoyed a great weekend away finding a rewarding range of cache types, d/t combinations, cache hides and retrievals. Thanks for the cache Loci612!
Found while attending the Mega event in Canberra over Easter.Today I teamed up with FeatherWaite, Team Waldron, gridge98, Freddo and Davidwazza. Logs were signed ABP to save time and space on the logsheets. It was a productive day, focusing mainly on caches of interest, with an emphasis on the Virtual caches and a couple of older ones. The weather was fine and quite warm, in contrast to some of the other times Ive been in Canberra over Easter. Thanks Loci612 for the cache.
It seems pine trees are becoming my nemesis. Got to waypoint 1 , did the calculations, got to GZ and spotted the cache , got out the tott went up but then my fear took over and I had to come back down.
Could see green bison from the ground as I relaxed a little while GG1 climbed our first choice of GZ tree .After a long while with her head in the clouds she descended to inform me that everything was peachy.
Bit prickly on the soft hands but if that is the sum of one's problems, it's a bloody great day. Thank you for the fun Loci
D/T gap filled! Epic!
Solved this cache many, many moons ago, didn't climb it though because I was mega chicken. However, I soon found myself up many trees which were taller than this one, so why don't I just grab this one? It also fills a gap in my D/T grid, so I gotta go for it.
So I did. It was a lot easier than I thought, with a well picked tree, perfect for tree climbing! Accidently climbed past the cache and spied it around the back of the tree. The cache is pretty high, but certainly not the highest I have ever done. TFTC Loci612! A favourite for a excellent cache!

Found with Domsky and WombatShark29!
A lovely tree climb this morning, it was the perfect and still day for it!
Certainly glad I borrowed Domsky’s gloves, it was a bit spiky.
Loved finding this cache, thanks!

This one was solved sometime ago, and the last visit to GZ was on a very windy day, and although we could see the hide, we decided to wait.
Today we were back with warmish_biscuit3, who has recently rediscovered her love of tree climbing.
There was no stopping her here, and while Mrs Domsky slowly made her way up, it was the inner monkey of warmish_biscuit3 that flew up and won that race!
An awesome tree to climb, and after a small, initial hurdle, it was pretty straightforward.
Amazing views of the lake from the top.
Thanks Loci612

After a DNF about 3 months ago we were in company with a crazy climber. The CO himself! Thanks! My dad was a bit petrified about how high the cache was and the fact that loci could fall and that he was stepping on lots of “dry” branches. Nothing snapped and loci still lives. Again, thanks a lot!!! TFTC Fav
Saw the cache but couldn’t reach. About 3m up it’s looks like 2 branches were cut off. Either that or in too short. Interesting history!
I visited the plaque. I collected the info. I calculated the coordinates. I realised it was a tree climb. I wasn't in the company of a crazy cacher with climbing skills, a head for heights, and a due disregard for personal safety. I went home empty handed, but with all bones intact.
#1000 WOOHOOOOO!! Finally hit the 1000!
I’ve been very on and off caching since I created my account but have really gotten into it lately and all the milestones are just coming so quick now. I’d been anticipating this one for a few weeks now and had actually been eying off my other stats before deciding what I wanted to find for my 1000th. As it turns out my D/T grid was getting very close to completion around the same time and I was able to pick out a few caches yesterday to get me one grid spot off of completing my first loop. That final spot was indeed this caches D/T rating!
When picking out the cache I wanted to find to complete both first 1000 and my D/T this one really struck my eye. I’ve been getting much more confident with tree climbs lately and also noticed this one was by Loci612 so I was keen to make this the one. When I had only just hit 100 finds, I reached out to Loci for help with one of his caches and he was beyond helpful and offered to come along if I still couldn’t find it. In the end I did end up finding it thanks to his help, but ever since I’ve always enjoyed his hides as they always give me a challenge, this all contributed to my decision in my 1000th find.
In prep for this find, Turtle and I had actually visited the area yesterday and put together the info we needed to find GZ. From there we also headed off to GZ and we’re lucky enough to spot the cache from the ground (Turtle had some strong eagle eyes yesterday!). With everything prepped and set, today was the day to make the find. We were joined by Injuryman and Flintstone’s who we had run into yesterday and offered to come along. With all of us at the base of the tree, I was ready to make my ascent.
I usually take climbs nice and slow making sure that I’m secure along the way but the adrenaline had me halfway to my goal in no time. At this point I did slow down a bit and begun planning my next few movements. After not too much longer I had reached the cache and although filled with excitement knew I definitely didn’t want to drop anything and I still had the climb back down ahead of me. A quick sign of the log later, pen and phone back in the pocket and I begin my descent, which although safe, seemed to be a quicker ride than up (always seems to be the way!).
As I touched back onto the ground the small group gave me a congratulations. I hadn’t prepared for a photo or anything so I grabbed a few bits of paper out of the vehicle and quickly scribbled 1000 on it and snagged a photo. 1000 finds and the first loop of the D/T down and many mor milestones to come!
Thanks Loci for placing this hide as well as all your others and thank you to Turtle, Injuryman and Flintstone’s for the company today and helping me celebrate, onto the next!

Came here to join Deadthief for finding the big 1000th milestone. Freshly strengthened with some calories he was almost running up that tree. Thank you for letting us be part of you Milestone and Congratulations!
A very high tree climb this cache and only one way to get up there. I am thankful I had help with this one.
Thank you Loci612 for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

#2852 We had set this up to be number 1000 for DeadThief this morning so a few of us gathered to provide support. DT attacked the climb with a quiet confidence and had reached the cache in no time at all. Thanks Loci for preparing this multi and DT for taking on the climb today.
Thank you to Deadthief, for doing the hard yards on this one. Congrats on 1000 finds!
Thanks Loci for the interesting bit of history, and for the view I got of Deadthief
I've always liked the name Lachlan, but I think it'd be better as a middle name

Jemalong&family made the climb, we both found it to bit a tiny bit high considering the tree was a pine but it was a nice easy solve and quick find at GZ TFTC
Cache was a bit higher than i first thought but with the adrenaline pumping was able to quickly ascend and grab the cache. TFTC
In the park for a picnic, spotted this one from below today. A green bison indeed!
Cache on and good luck!
Cache on and good luck!
We found the closest tree to GZ. Dan started to climb and climb and climb a bit more. He started to feel like Jack and the beanstalk. Eventually, he thought he had the wrong tree. He climbed down, much to Sue's relief. Then looked up and saw the green bison tube. It was laughing at him. He did have the right tree and should have climbed a bit more. The old bloke was too worn out to climb again. Maybe later. Thanks Loci612 for this challenging cache.
Found with ScoutKoalaBear and the 4as1, while attending a birthday party in the Peace Park.

Finally, I get to log the find. With the assistance of Gromitboy "we" finally were able to sign the log. A fun challenge for father and son! Thanks Loci612
Thanks to Fox in Jox for making this climb for us. I attempted it but ducks aren't meant to climb ssooo..... found with jebjeb and LuckyL10n during a local event held close by. TFTC Loci612.
We didn't climb ourself but with the help of a nice local cacher we are in the log book.

#10297 - 18:15; Wandered over from the nearby event with cosmonaut97 and did the calculations. I wasn't planning on climbing today, so hadn't worn the appropriate clothing, so c97 gave it a try. The CO arrived, but decided against doing any cache maintenance, although he did help us spot the tiny cache from terra firma below. jebjeb soon joined us as we pondered a solution to our dilemma. Managed to convince Fox in Jox to relive his effort as the first one up here and he kindly added our names to the log during his encore performance. Thanks FiJ and TFTC Loci612
TFTC Great day for caching again today, thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining this cache.
Invited by StarsAlign and contesta to help make the find. An easy climb up whilst others, including Geokid3 supervised from below. A concerned resident also made an appearance, hovering over me the whole way. TNLNSL TFTC
At the nearby CC event today when a group walked off.....hurrying to follow I soon found out that they had their eye on a multi with a nice D/T.
Gathered the required information and then an easy walk to GZ. Sui kindly offered to make the climb for fitzy (nice birthday present). Log retrieved, signed and returned.....unfortunately Sui's shorts didn't survive the trip....

21,742. Found with minniek and a bunch of other cachers attending my nearby CCE.
We were standing around towards the end of my event tonight when the subject of the nearby Multi came up. I mentioned that I hadn't done it despite having the required info and GZ, and I was offered a birthday present, which I gladly accepted. Sui did the hard yards, ripping his daks in the process, and we all added our names to the log (after it was recovered from an overhead branch).
Thanks Loci612 for the cache (as I discussed with you earlier) plus my thanks to Sui. Fav Point !

Had done the multi part of this one some time ago after work, but never sporting the right attire when in this neck of the woods have never been able to collect the cache at GZ.
Today with the event close by a group of us wandered over to the GZ with a monkey (very confident climber)in tow. Looked like a pretty nice tree to climb compared to some of late.
So up went Sui_001 closely followed by a local Pee Wee who wanted a new friend, seems he was Sui's spotter on this climb.
Signed the log with many.
Thanks for the multi and hide Loci612 and thanks for climbing Sui_001.

Cache 6609 on 15 Oct 2020.
Found with a few cachers just after a nearby event was held to celebrate a couple of important birthdays. We wandered over, found the plaque and spotted the tree in question. Ah, a serious climb was needed. And a serious climb was made. By a serious climber. A few names were added to the log before it was passed up for replacement. A pair of pants may or may not have been harmed in the retrieval and return of this cache. But apparently no pride was harmed : )

Made plans with Bonfire7 & Muppet95 for a day in Canberra to cherry pick a few caches with interesting DT combos, types, dates, or other attributes. We got off to an early start, the weather was superb, and the caches were great. Thanks to all the COs for making Canberra (and around) a good place to come back to time and again.
Out caching with muppet95 and 154crows,today muppet was aiming towards a milestone so armed with TOTT's we planned on spending the day searching for speciality and higher D/T rated caches.
As always it was a top day out caching in and around the ACT with the company of good friends,we found some really cool hides thoughout the day whilst muppet reached his milestone so that was great to be a part off!
Looking forward to our next trip!
This cache was really something! great way to wrap up the day,we had plans to search for its sister cache however afyer a big day by now i was now hurting.

Planned a trip to Canberra to coincide with my 6000th find milestone. I teamed up with geobuddies, Bonfire7 and 154Crows, for the day outdoors! We targeted cache types as well as D/T ratings (particularly high T-rated caches requiring a TOTT). Thanks to all the Cache Owners for their contributions to this recreational activity!

I joined in a mass gathering at this one, just a little late to find Joolay well up the tree. It was fun to be out with a group, and although I did the multi part after the find it was fun exercise and I sort of wish I had got to go up the tree.

Oh my goodness!!! That was epic. A huge shout out to Joolay who tackled the climb and to dty73 who played my chauffer for the day. Really glad to have this one turned into a smile!
Out for a lovely morning of caching with a great bunch of local cachers; kittykatch, joolay, darksidedan, blueiris, albida33, tankengine, dty73, barb2e, Aquilus1, greyhams, budsky, and smittengranny. So great to be back out and about and able to see some great friends, whilst getting some fresh air and knocking off some bucketlist caches. Logged as Capital Crunchers throughout the morning.
Thanks so much for the caches. Thanks for the fun.

Ooops that was supposed to be a draft.
This cache was the beginning of a beautiful caching expedition with a great group of like minded people.
Today was my first day out caching in weeks. It ended up being able to log two high terrain caches and eight caches in all. Many thanks to all the COs for placing and maintaining these caches. I was travelling as part of Capital Crunchers which is how the log was signed.
Special huge thanks and congratulations to Joolay for a most incredible climb.

Thank you to Joolay for climbing this tree for everyone. I came with Aquilus1 and it was good to meet lots of new people,I had fun. The tree climb was really scary to watch though, Joolay you were awesome!!!
Let me just say... Joolay is my hero!! She did all the hard work for the Capital Crushers today.
NRCs and I were running a little late for our group caching fun. We drove by to see everyone already there. We parked and walked across to the group with hellos and apologies.
Joolay was already making her way to the cache. She did an awesome job while the rest of us cheered her on. Tftc Loci612!!!

We met as a group to tackle this very high tree. Coords soon worked out and then it was time to climb. I decided to climb this one and used the TOTT to get to a higher branch but then it was up, up and more up. Such a long way up and trying hard to NOT look down. It was a bit of a stretch sometimes but I eventually carefully made it up to the cache and signed Capital Crunchers and Joolay. Then it was time to climb down. Coming down was much easier than going up but still had to be careful. So glad to reach the ground. Thanks for a great tree climb Loci612
I was pleased this group came together for a few tree climbs although was supposed to be at work so unsure if I could get there. We managed to arrive in time and went about collecting the information for the coordinates. Nice to do as a group as we all came up with various answers! Julie made the climb after the ladder got her in place and an impressive climb it was too, not for the faint hearted it took some impressive skills. Thanks for the cache Loci612 but also thanks to the group and Joolay!
Found today with Capital Crunchers. Joolay did a great job climbing up the ladder and then tree. That is a long way up !

After biking part of the Canberra Centennial Trail, I dropped by here. I hadn't read up on this one at all, so only realised the D/T as I wandered up to the plaque. The information was easily collected, and then it was off to GZ. Surveying the tree, I had second thoughts. I read the previous logs and decided if they can do it so can I. Carefully, I ventured upwards, making sure to keep 3 points of contact all the way. Some parts were challenging - a bit of a stretch, but in due course I made it to the cache. Very carefully, I managed to sign the log without dropping anything, Then it was a slow and careful climb back down. I definitely earned that cache. TFTC
After biking part of the Canberra Centennial Trail, I dropped by here. I hadn't read up on this one at all, so only realised the D/T as I wandered up to the plaque. Most of the fun was had solving the coordinates and spotting the cache. This took a while! A bit too "challenging" for us so will have to recruit some assistance another time! Thanks Loci612
Dang - another tall tree climb! - I wasn't really looking forward to this, but decided to pop by on the weekend for free parking... I soon had the GZ calculated, but then, which tree? There are 3 here. After much looking up, I think I spied the sucker, so up I went. Yep it was a long way up. And as per normal, the adrenalin kicks in, and so I didn't notice until I was back on the ground that I was covered in scratches all over (should have worn long trousers), and even bleeding on both legs, my left arm and my hand... But that wasn't so bad as all the sap on my hands - how are you supposed to get that off! Anyways - recovering at home now. TFTC Loci.
Epic climb! Kevin the monkey would have been proud. My heart was thumping and the adrenalin was flowing. At one point on the way back down my cap was flicked off by a twig. Watching it fall to the ground unnerved me to some degree. The climb was not a technical one but golly it was a high one. I rarely ascend to such heights unless aided by messrs Boeing or Otis.
Now you might be wondering how on earth a corpulent lump of congealed lard like me managed to get to the cache, so I have uploaded an image as proof of my ascent. The way I did it was a mixture of slow and steady wins the race, always keeping three anchor points, and stopping for a breather every few metres. Sheer determination to sign the log book was primary motivational factor.
Each time I stopped, I looked up, hoping to see that bison. I did this many times - that's how high it is. In the end I overshot it a little. I didn't see it until I checked around the other side of the trunk. Sneaky little thing, keeping out of view for so long. I wasn't sure that I was in the right tree until the cache was right in front of me.
A great addition to the set of Canberra's tree-climb caches.
Thx Loci for a fun little adventure.

I saw the notification for this new cache last night, had a quiet chuckle to myself and delved into the photo archives. From there I completed the math required for this multi and had a nice set of co-ordinates ready to roll once I finished work today.
I wouldn't ordinarily have a photo of a plaque such as this, but my mother-in-law is one of the Kaye family and resided on Springbank Island until it was resumed by the government for the construction of Lake Burley Griffin.
The tree referenced in the cache description (original, not the replacement) was indeed removed, but parts of it have were given new life courtesy of my late father-in-law's woodturning exploits, and I have several seasoned rounds from this tree stored away for similar use in the future.
On arrival at gz I identified two potential trees, just a few metres apart with my gps indicating right between the two! I whipped out the binoculars and started to search the canopy of each tree for signs of the cache, and eventually spotted it. After assessing the structure of the tree I was happy to free-climb to the cache (I'm used to the more technical method of climbing trees). Once up top I opened the cache, still revealing just one other name - Fox in jox! Signed the log in situ, replaced the cache and made the descent.
Once back on the ground I got my hypsometer out and measured the height of the cache - I won't tell exactly how high, but it is well in excess of 10m high, so please exercise caution! Interestingly, a large proportion of arborists who fall from trees, do so within 3m of the ground! Happily I've never fallen from any height!
Thanks Loci for another great cache - I've really enjoyed it, both for the family connection and for the tree climb!

*FTF* @ 5:10PM.
Saw the multi was close to home, then saw that it involved a good tree climb. How could I resist.
Got to GZ, grabbed the info and off I went. Didn't mind that I heard a young kid say "Hey mum, look at that guy climbing the tree." By the time I had reached the altitude, they weren't interested any more. Found the container and signed.
TFTC Loci. A fave, of course. Some good afternoon exercise.

Came with Loci612 who spotted this plaque whilst at a nearby event, he decided it would be perfect to accompany his new tree climb hide! My heart was beating out of my chest, excellent cache! Thanks
