Out and about today poking around Mt Major. What a great piece of local history you have here. Thank you for placing this cache here for me to find and showing me around this amazing place. All good here. Now, onto the next one for the day. TFTC

Last find for the day.
Found relatively quickly by ScottL78 who took photos of our surroundings while I wrote on the very damp log.
A bit of TLC required.

I have visited this ‘costean’ (hadn’t heard this term) a number of times before so knew what I was looking for. I enjoyed reading the historical significance and an interesting location.

With the rest of the family in Sydney and a busy few weeks coming up at work I decided last week to have a day off to go caching. Looked at the map and initially thought about Shepparton but then saw an intriguing collection at Mount Major so that became my target. Picked what would be a sunny day (was raining when I left Albury but was fine most of the day - though very windy). In the end a successful day with 26 caches found and one DNF. Turned out to be a Team BGF day.

This was a very cool spot - the far point but really interesting. The cache has had water but log fine at the moment. Placed back with top downhill but attachment is also full of soil so not strong.
A really nice cache and what caching should be about.

Wow - almost an earth cache! Rather interesting indeed. Out and about on trusty treadles aka the MTB as I heard Mt Major is fun for riding. I don’t mind uphills but it’s not really my style of terrain - still a change of altitude and fab views of where I’ve just driven from! with beaut panoramic views of home base. Buffalo looks impressive and there’s plenty of snow on the peaks. Apart from skittish sheep, no muggles today. Cache locate and mission accomplished. Now it’s off to Shep with a load of boxes for #1 daughter who has moved there so I’m crystal balling plenty of visits. TFTC, the info and the fun! A fave for amazing location

I decided last night that I was going up Mt Major this morning to claim the two caches that I missed last time I was here with my babe dalerious. The day we came up here was quite warm and I had not had my knee operation yet, so I was in pain most of the way. Fast forward to today and the temperature was more to my liking, and my knee is better than it has ever been. I headed up the beautiful ascent to gz, enjoying the view and conditions. A little birdy warned me that I will be needing to be on the top of my game to sign the log on this one, and I am very happy to say that I fulfilled that challenge. Cache eventually found in good condition. Had a ball exploring the area thoroughly.

TFTC!
Well that was a much needed stroll! Now to make my way back.....thanks for all your work!

Well we didn’t die, despite taking the most direct route from our car parking on The TV Tower road. Found cache in a compromised state. With the help of some useful TOTT’s and plumber expertise the cache was eventually back in place. Mr Harrowang even found the expander plug and screws in the general vicinity to put back as intended. SL at 9.44am Left: eagle PT. #7345 TFTC Team BGF - now onto MTB360

#17477. It has been a while since I have been out caching and today Robmc, Howjen567 and I made an attack on Mount Major. Rob and Howard had done some of these back on 6th July but this was my first time here. We arrived at the carpark at 9.30am and were back again in 4 hours and 20 minutes. This included a few long side treks and a decent lunch break at the top. We were the only ones here today which surprised me as most people have had to contend with many walking muggles. Fortunately I had a walking pole but even so I found the downhill back to the car rather difficult. Walking is most definitely not a favourite sport for me. Give me a bike any day.

This was an interesting place to find, even though I was cursing the extra distance we had to trudge to get here - the furthest outpost of the colonies sort of stuff. I only admired it all from above but the fellows both went to the lower level. Now it is time to find one last one for me to finish off the day before we start the return trip to the chariot.

Thanks Team BGF

BettyBoo3747, Howjen567 and I took off for Mount Major to complete (for Howjen and I) the series on the Mount.
Surprisingly, we were the only one on the Mount today.
Bettyboo did a clean sweep of all caches here.
We also did a few caches in the way home including the Winton Historic Adventure Lab series.

Now we know what a Costean actually is!
It was a surprise when we arrived at GZ, as nothing in the walk over suggest a mine here (probably should ready the cache notes before doing the cache!)
Interesting tunnels in the rock, one going a fair way in.
Time to turn back for home. Thanks for these extra caches in the Major Walk series.
Thanks, Robmc.

To think of the number of times we’ve climbed this hill and would never have even knew this existed. Very interesting place if you can explore it with a torch. Thanks for hiding the cache there Team BGF!

I remember seeing a few of these get published a few months back and thinking I’d like to get over to check out the area at some stage. Then lockdown 2.0 happened and I forgot about them.
After collecting a number of the wonders of the world souvenir challenge tokens recently I then discovered the final two I needed happened to be on the Mt Major series. I spoke to the wife and we hatched a plan. Today wasn’t supposed to be to wet or cold so we set out from Wangaratta just before lunch.
We ate lunch in the car park before setting off up the hill at 12:18pm. I hadn’t even counted the caches up there, we mostly wanted to just get outside in the fresh air. After arriving at the tower we spent a lot more time off track for the rest of the day. The landscape is covered in thick knee high cape weed!
I don’t think we took the most efficient route around up top but we made it fun.

Nat and I found this one fairly quickly before Em and Cassie caught up to us. An interesting spot we didn’t expect to come across. There was rain looming and we considered taking shelter here but in the end rolled the dice and continued onward.
Found at 2:24pm #7

{FTF} @6:10pm Big Grin

Tings I Learnded..... Razz

-A costean is a trench which provides a cross section below surface. [8)]

-A costean is pretty creepy under torchlight when you realise it would make an excellent shelter for wild animals. Red Face

-Team BGF are a diabolical duo that know how to hide very clever caches.
(actually I already knew that one) Twisted

-I can walk from the "Base Camp" car park the costean and back in 2 hours including detours for four finds. Cool

-I can walk over mountains wearing a surgical mask. Razz

-I am going to have to log a lot more caches to earn more favourite points before I log any more BGF ones. Wink

TFTCs Team BGF. Now I can slide into stage 3 lockdown peacefully knowing these FTF caches wont be taunting me so close to home for the next 6 weeks or so. [^]

Cache and contents found signed and returned with sanitised hands and I didn't lick anyghing. Smile
