Found by The Empire + HIn the cool morning light, we arrived at the Pink Lakes in Murray-Sunset National Park, the sun casting a soft glow over the landscape. Having visited the salt lakes near Dimboola before, I was curious to see how these compared. Instantly, they felt more captivating, not just because of the vibrant pink hue, but also due to the remnants of old salt mining equipment scattered nearby, adding a sense of history to the surreal scenery. The lakes, with their striking pink color caused by algae in the high-salinity water, were mesmerizing in the early light, but the rusty salt mining relics gave the place an extra layer of intrigue. Weathered conveyor belts and rusted machinery stood like monuments to the past, offering a glimpse into the hard work that once took place here. Walking around the area, we were able to soak in both the natural beauty and the industrial history of this unique spot, making it a truly memorable stop on our drive. Wow this would have been a back breaking job and forever thirsty . Interesting history here and a nice stroll around the Kline Loop Nature Walk. Thanks for this Earthcache Tftc
What an amazing piece of history this place is. Spectacular view and a great excuse to go for a walk around a few lake's. Great spot, thanks for bringing us here.
Day 7 of my holidays today I left Murray Sunset National Park after a wet night and I made my way south. I made it as far as Donald where I set camp up for the night. I managed to find 27 caches today and 2 DNF's today. An interesting read here and some interesting relics left behind.TFTC GemmaSistema
Found It!An interesting bit of history here. Shovelling salt all day would've been a hard job!TFTC
Unfortunately our phone was low on juice so we had to pull the pin on a couple of caches worried we would get lost on our way back to camp! But we made the required observations here. A couple days late logging due to being on Pheenys track. Travelling East to west.
I completed this earthcache as I was heading back home to Adelaide after the Capital Geobash Mega event over Easter.I was travelling solo again and took somewhat of a zig-zag route, following caches of interest. My main focus was on the non-Traditional cache types, although I did find a few others opportunistically. After a bit of rain the first day after leaving Canberra, its been pretty good weather the rest of the time.I was surprised at the salt piles they left behind here. Thanks GemmaSistema for another interesting earthcache.
Date: March 2, 2024 Time: 6:19 PMFind #14860started heading home after the Mega in Adelaide and victor harbour parkrun via a few more caches.Answers sent and approved Massive thanks go to GemmaSistema for placing this one.
We have been to this museum a few times now and still find it so interesting . TFTC
A victorian earth cache for Earthcache day. That was a little different from the usual looking at rocks. Discussed the answers with Mogni and she sent the answers in. Out with Mogni for a 3 day weekend, leaving friday morning and coming back sunday night. The plan was to go to Cowangie in Victoria and then head in to Murray-Sunset National Park then head on to Mildura and come back via Rufus River road ( in New South Wales ) to South Australia. Night 1 was in the Murray-Sunset National Park at Mopoke Hut camp ground and Night 2 at Mildura then going back to Adelaide. It must have rained recently in Murray-Sunset since the sand wasn't like fine power as expected and other sections of the National park had bypass tracks around the water filled ruts in the main track. Going around one of the bypass tracks i staked a tyre on the friday but didn't notice it to saturday morning. The stake went right beside the tread and the inside wall of the tyre, the stake was the size of my finger tip. Also turns out that i got a screw in my rear tyre thrusday night leaving work. There was alot of reinflating tyres this trip. The flora change in the national park was surprising but i figured that is due to weather or not the ground was sandy or muddy. When we got to Mildura we targeted the 2 multi's mogni wanted to do and of course they were the ones with 7 and 11 stages. After that we targeted the caches with high amount of favourite points and then left the next day via New South Wales so we could get the virtual at Lake Victoria and some of the older 2003 around the border track. A good weekend away 4x4ing.
Found with sir_spectre while on a trip to Mildura via Murray Sunset NP. An interesting location.Answers sent. Thanks
Out visiting pink lakes with Trodectus as part of his interest. Arrived and obtained info for CO. Spectacular views as we went around the lake. TFTEC
Visited here today with Coybear2000. We were driving from Adelaide to Ouyen. While driving around the lakes we saw ring necked parrots and blue bonnet parrots. Certainly these lakes are fascinating. We didn't see Major Mitchell cockatoos, but were lucky enough to see a pair flying in the afternoon sun near our accommodation at Ouyen. TFTC.
I left a knife here when I was a teenager. It was a small winchester pocket knife, with an engraving of a revolver on the side. I had gone for a walk to smoke a cigarette and put it down on a cassette packet which held the few smokes. I left and forgot about it. In my mind I know the exact area. But coming back here it all looks so different. I often wonder if it's still there, completely rusted over sitting on a log. It has been there over 20 years now, unless someone has picked it up. Like then, when I came to do this cache the lake wasn't that pick. But the salt hills were here and the kids had great fun climbing them. Great area and lesson, a FP from me.
Camping nearby at the lake on a full moon. What a spot! Definately keen to return with the family. Great to see the history and imagine the hard labour that would have been invested in harvesting the salt.
Thanks GemmaSistema for the cache.

This one is logged with the permission of the CO. We were out here, taking photos and having a good look around. It is really quite an incredible relic of times gone by. The Co was here with her family and mentioned that we should look around carefully. Recently, when we caught up with her somewhere, we were told that the cache was out and we could add our names now that the FTF had gone. A stunning place to visit and a favourite for me.
Thank you to the CO for permission to log this one. I remember meeting her and her family out here when we were participating in one of the desert events. Great place for this cache.
Our third time camping at Lake Crosbie, once by ourselves, second time with our caching mates and this time a full house of strangers. After breakfast we packed up and took a cruise around to this historic salt mine ruins and explored the large piles and read the information board. What hard work it would have been back in the day!!!
Thanks GemmaSistema for the interesting earthcache in this magical location.

TFTC. My first mystery case, hope I get the things correct. Interesting place, we are doing the Kline walk in a rather cool breezy day.
Interesting place to visit, expect very hot in the summer. Faint pink appearance today, lake rick hard to walk on
This was the first of 3 caches the M & M's did as they journeyed off the road near the much loved hometown of Mary's beloved Uncle Tom.
We were on a journey to transport Mary's Mum back to Ouyen for Nancy's interment and we managed 2 pub visits and 3 caches on Nancy's final road trip.
Both M's and Nancy enjoyed the views here and the lessons learned at this earthcache.

Have been here previously in 2007, you cannot rush back to places like this. The Hancock Clan sent our combined answers. Spent the night nearby. A cool-cold night bush such a sunset and sunrise.
After camping nearby, we headed over to this earthcache. A beautiful morning and an interesting spot. Thanks for setting up this earthcache, answers sent.

Thanks for the earth cache. Just wanted to stand on the pile and then looked on the app and realised we were standing on an earth cache!
Found yesterday with Flukey71, Flukey13 & FlukeyDan. Pink lakes were pinker than I imagined at this time of year. Thanks for the earth cache.
Hi
Thanks for this earth cache - The lake today was only a little pinkish but still great to visit.

Late log: Kids and emandel had fun climbing the salt mount. Thanks for the earth cache at this pretty location.
Well it’s 2021 and I have finally said good bye to a not so great 2020 and it was great to finally be able to have a reasonable holiday as I have not had a decent break since 2019.
Made to South Australia and finally crossing the boarder and then being greeted by a couple of very friendly SA police offices for which i had the official paper work to allow me to enter.
After making my way west along the Eyre Hwy I went as far as Penong and the Eyre Hwy which I have not travelled along since the late 70’s when I was on a holiday with my folks and this was the last holiday before I started full time work as a sparkie and finding a few caches as I go.
Geocaching when towing a van is not always easy and I have to be a bit selective on which ones I decide to try and find for safe parking purposes especially along busy highways.
So then it was down to the Eyre Peninsula to see the sites down there Venus Bay, Coffin Bay National Park and Lincoln National Park were some highlights and I will come back again to have a better look around.
So after nearly 2 weeks spent on the Eyre Peninsula it was time to start heading back to Victoria but another lockdown in Vic has just occurred so now to change my plans again.
So I rounded bay stayed in a couple of different places and now it is time to start heading closer to the border and then see what the news is about me crossing back over.
So after staying in Murryville for the night as I was able to cross the border back into Victoria and not be in any form of lock down.
Was up this way last year for a great event and after seeing that an earth cache has been added I called back in here to get some answers.
Bounced the Geocruiser with the van behind in and parked and set off to find the answers.
Hope I got what is required to log this one.
Thanks GemmaSistema TFTEC.

Making the trip from Mildura we were excited to see what awaits us at gz! Such a beautiful landscape! Having Honeysucker joining us on the trip made for some light entertainment and laughs! Thanks for highlighting this amazing area! With the storm clouds looming in the background heading towards us made for some dramatic photos. Definitely a fav point for location and earth cache design. We love it! Joint {FTF} with Honeysucker.
