I'm ditching dad again and heading down south for the Mega in Dunedin. During this trip I managed to do many things and meet many people over the 2 weeks I was away. Thanks to all the cache owners and other cachers for making this trip enjoyable.Day 3 of the trip. After spending the night with mum I split off to go and do some of my jasmer months. It was a nice laid back day doing mainly caches along the coast but I also went up and did deep creek which was fun. A nice quick find here. TFTCAll logs on this trip were signed by any of the following:Taybee NZ,TBNZ,TNZ,TB/D (When I was out with mother)
On a quick road trip and today we decided to try our luck and detour to this one .Soon found what we were looking for and love exploring the area .Great to see the history of the area and some of the older buildings. A nice spot to ca jome if you are lucky enough. Thanks to the co for looking after this special one and a great history lesson.Nice little village. Yes i could live here. Beautiful area Getting out and about in to the out doors is my happy place so any excuse to go caching. As if I need an excuse aahhh nop I will go rain hail or snow so let's goooo and have as much fun and adventures as possible tomorrow may never come and we never know what tomorrow may hold for us all just do it Life is short. Live life one foot step at a time.Never say" I'm gonna "- Just do it!! Tomorrow may never come just grab Life by the horns Thanks for the hide tftc
With dsi on a quick trip, but always time to make a sidetrip to research our country's history.Lovely place to visit, thanks for bringing me here
What an awesome wee spot I never knew about it. Awesome little ghost village and history. TFTC
What a gorgeous little hamlet! I'm visiting New Zealand with my husband for a couple of weeks. We travelled here particularly to find a nearby Old cache. We were on our way to Methven. If not for the old cache, we would have driven straight past here, none-the-wiser, but muggle-hubby and I both commented on the lovely, peaceful location. Reading further, the history is a little unfortunate, but the charm remains.Having retrieved the information that I needed for the Oldie, and making the find, I proceeded to this nearby cache. The cache was found in an unsurprising location, but well hidden. Thanks, busy paws, for placing a cache here to add to our enjoyment of the area.
WE decided on a trip out to the new Methven pools ( Opuke Pools ) and of course we could pass these caches here at the ghost village of barrhill.A scotman's dream of replicating what his father had back in Scotland but unfortunately the dream did not really eventuate. there still stands this church used once a month and kept in good order , the school house which doubled as the village hall and and the Gtae house ( now a museum ) a kilometre or so along the road . These were all built in concrete and are built to last ! This cache is NOT in the grounds of the church being guarded by two big trees but the gps seemed to struggle to settle down here so it took us far longer than it should have unfortunately . we took nothing and left nothing except photos of the church and the school village hall and old plough out front and a delightful letter box nearby. .Thank you for this cache and bringing us here . .
Located with Ricardinho Our plans for the day were to travel from Christchurch to Methven as I had an appointment there. We had a bit of time to get a few caches on the way & also on the way back. A bit of retail therapy to finish the day off at Dressmart in Hornby. This place is the reason I love Geocaching, it takes you to these little hidden gems you otherwise wouldn't know to go too. There were beautiful tree lined streets & historic buildings here at this little settlement. A cute wee stop on the way to Methven. Took RNZ & I a bit of time to locate this one as we didn't really have a proper thorough look first time! TFTC
One of the highlights of the day was finding this lovely little place. It really is a nice little oasis of greenery that contrasts with the fields outside its perimeter. We enjoyed walking around the old buildings that are left.As for the cache, it took a couple of circuits before I found it. As usual, it was so easy you wonder how you missed it the first time.No dramas, all good here, TFTC busy paws. The plan for today was to get to Methven from Christchurch.RG72 had an appointment there, and we had a bit of time to get a few on the way in.While RG was busy I got a few around the town, which included enjoying the fun Ad lab that was on offer, and then on the way back to Christchurch we got a few more before stopping in at Hornby for some retail therapy.A few more from there to home, and that was our day. Good fun, just enough to break up the travelling without over doing it. Thanks all COs.
A lovely area to explore, we enjoyed looking inside the church, and looking around the other old buildings and machinery in the area. Beautiful tree lined streets and quiet and peaceful. Thanks for placing a cache here to get us to explore.
Found with ivss_xx and Gummi_Venus.Quick find then we had a look around before heading for the oldie. This is a really interesting place. Grateful for the caches that brought me here to learn more about where I live.
Found with ObnoxiousSpaceCat and ivss_xx, really interesting place to wander around - although better on days without strong wind warnings. TFTC!
14:07 FITW ObnoxiousSpaceCat, Gummi_VenusNot the best place to be in these super high winds - next to some trees with big branches flailing like crazy. But we came, we found, we didn't get hit by a falling tree - all is well! I call that a win-win situation!Kia ora! Paldies! Thanks for the cache, busy paws!#9960
A strange little village, which we recall visiting for a cache many years ago. It took us a while to locate this cache. For us it seemed to be a few metres north of the coordinates, at S43 40.392 E171 51.176, but it was at a logical spot. TFTC
The task today was to find a multicache so I elected to have a big day out caching out Methven. Now on the way back home seeking and signing trads. Fascinating place. I've found a few caches here in the past. TFTC BP.
Youngest found it, GPS bounces around a fair bit but he managed to somehow scratch around and find it, left crystal
Another month, another challenge. I'm keen to see how many days I can manage to get out and find caches this month. This is Day 9. I took a drive inland from Rakaia and found a few caches in an area I haven't visited for about 12 years. What a cool place. Phone GPS struggled a bit under the trees so cache was found in about the 4th place I checked. After I found and replaced the cache I had a wander around some of the other village features. TFTC, Biggles.
It took a wee while for the GPS to settle down but once that happened it was a quick find and cache was in perfect condition. Thank you for bring me here to find your cache. And this will mark 1000 points for the souvenir
23 April 2023 12:06 pm Autumn and acorn were falling... not the best time to find this cache but what a lovely spot.
What a neat place and I'm sure I wouldn't have come here but for geocaching. Favourite point from me
Quick find when in right area lol Pays to look around as we always find lol TFTC
If it was not for this cache, I would have never stopped and explored this cute little place. Cache is all good here. TFTC.
Cache brought me in here. Ended up spending ages wandering around the old town with interesting history. Thanks.
Exactly why I love geocaching.. findings places I never would have thought to visit!
With both kids away on an overnighter MrsTG and I decided to come out for a hill walk. Haven't tackled Mt Somers before so headed on out. After a lovely daywalk stopped by here on a wiggle-woggle detour homewards. Lovely wee church. Been a while since I last stopped in here. Thanks.
What a lovely display of daffodils and bluebells around this pretty church. The church was open and we enjoyed looking at the stained glass windows. My favourite is St Francis of Assissi. We found the cache after a short search.
I can remember coming here for the old cache History 101 back in 2010, which I'm delighted to see is still going strong (thanks R3) so happy to return for another cache or two in the area.
Had to tip toe through the daffodils to get to GZ, where the cache was a quick find. TFTC.

Been a few caches around here over the years, good to see another one at this lovely old church. Cheers
Out and about to collect some new smilies on my map. I made a good loop today and visited some great spots and this was one of them. TFTH I love this spot and the history.

Meet the grounds keeper as he finished mowing the lawn around the church. He suggested we go have a look inside which we did do.
Last cache of the evening with BFC before heading back home. All in good condition, easy find. We watched a fantail flit about as I signed off initials on the log.
Thanks for the hide, a nice village to visit again.

I had to head to Barrhill today to check on my cache (to check it hadn't succumbed to a slip. It hadn't).
I figured as I was in the area I'd clean up as many caches as I could between Highbank and Rakaia. In the end I only DNFd three caches and got seventeen finds (including a bonus find near Burnham).
This was my first find, after a natter with a local and checking out the wee church. The cache was in the most obvious spot (thankfully).

On our way home from a great club 4x4 trip on the Clyde and Lawrence rivers. Chose a route with some caches. Getting later in the day but love this interesting place. All the spring flowers are now out near GZ. Thanks for the cache busy paws.
Day 11 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)
Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.
The weather was having a slow start to putting on a great day for caching, but I have been so lucky to have dry conditions my whole trip so far. Today's plan was to drive from Christchurch to Timaru, following the coast but with plenty of side trips to get caches targeted as per above, and any others I felt inclined to stop at including this one.
This was effectively a quick park n grab. Plenty of room on the side of the road to park up and then walk over to GZ. The cache was a quick find thanks to the Hint, and finding no issues with the cache or the log, it was signed and everything replaced exactly as found before heading back to the campervan.
Thanks for placing this cache.

All was quiet on a sunny morning. It must look lovely when the spring flowers bloom. TFTC
When I realised it is Sunday, I was hoping that it is not the week when services are held! Phew! Otherwise my timing would have been perfect for the service! TFTC!!
Great grandad farmed at Ballantrae, just down the road from Barrhill in Scotland, so I enjoyed coming here. Tftc
A nice quick find thanks. A pleasant spot.
A lovely day for a drive in the country with Ms_KR. The mountains looked Awesome, and the company superb.

Nobody around which was good as it took me a little while to locate the cache. It wasn't quite where I thought it would be and the GPS was bouncing around.
Had a look in the church. Very pretty but no music device. Maybe they don't like singing hymns!! TFTC

Felt like I was being watch as I searched for this checked all the obvious spots but came up empty handed!!!

This was also a fun find, because as we stopped so did another car and it was beautifully kept (not restored) Ford Escort and upon admiring it, got to talk to the owners who were born and brought up in Barrhill. We were treated to an impromptu history lesson and of course we had to explain geocaching. Not the first time here and there were a number of caches located in the area once upon a time. A fav from us P, a simple hide which brought us a lot of fun. Thank you.
{FTF} this area is such a peaceful and picturesque spot, unfortunately my phone GPS was struggling a bit and I couldn't get a decent fix on where the cache might be. While Mr D was having a chat to a nearby resident who was about to mow the lawns around the church, I was strolling nonchalantly around the grounds trying to get a decent fix on the cache whereabouts. I got distracted by a very friendly fantail who was flitting around me so close I could have touched it. There was a mother and son who pulled up on a motorbike who we also got chatting to, they spent some time admiring the peaceful nature of this little spot and the mother at 81 years old was thoroughly enjoying her trip on her sons motorbike! Good on her!! Anyway I still couldn't get anywhere with my GPS, so a phone call to the owner was in order once there was a little muggle free time to search. Within minutes the cache was in hand and I was happy to sign and date a third blank logbook. Thanks so much busy paws for bringing us to this lovely spot.
