We're in Charters Towers for a few days and today we decided to head over to the Weir park and grab some of the land based geocaches here.

Had the hole area to our selves today.. It gave us plenty of time to do the multi. Worked everything out, and off we went for a short walk. Gotcha..All good here..tftc.
Same as the nearby caches, I long planned to keep this cache for the Mega day to attempt the many cache types in a single day challenge. Since my car didn’t want to play along on that particular day I instead had to resort to other caches closer town and was fortunately still able to complete that challenge with plenty different types.
Well, now I am back in the area again after having visited it before for a caching anniversary boating powertrail event hosted by the CO.
Heavy rain in the last weeks obviously was once more the reason why the car access to this general area has been closed by the council as it wouldn’t be save to enter the waters from the boat ramp right now. This was already clear when driving over Macrossan Bridge. Despite the gates to this general area being closed, no serious floodwaters are around right now, just quite a bit of mud here and there in between the grass.
So I drove up to the closed gate and walked to this and the other caches through the heat of the midday sun.
I had done the mental work for this cache during my previous visit and now it was time to get the price. The cache is in very good shape and it was an easy find.
Thank you very much CachedinNQ for placing this cache.
My last visit to the Charters Region is now about one year ago. How time flies!? Back then I was able to clear the entire area, which filled me with quite a feeling of success. That was especially the case for getting all these old multies that really want to make sure that you see lots of the city and particularly of many remote roads.
Then it was great to see that numerous newly crafted caches emerged in light of countless new cachers visiting the region for last years Mega event. The memories of several midnight road trips out to long dark remote roads in hope for signing logs first are still strong in my mind.
Fast forward to today and I finally have the time to return again to this region and search for the new additions. Thank you very much Cachedin NQ for creating this cache and showing this location.

Puzzle solved easy enough. I saw a picture the other day of giant eastern brown snake on the Burdekin river...so all I could think of was him while searching . TFTC
Boat ramp park is open, road in graded and cache still in place, but took a second look to find.
Great Northern escape 2022 Day 78. Charters Towers Day 1. After a restless night and an early wake due to some very noisy birds, I headed off for a days caching. I finished the caches along the Gregory Highway and went out to the weir and threw in a few pirate caches as well. Apart from lots of grass and associated seeds, the day went smoothly and I was home in time for a late lunch and some logging.
I have no idea what happened here, the numbers seemed to come together well, and I calculated a GZ that was within the advertised distance, but it was just a nothing spot on the side of a slope and nothing around. I'll have to check my numbers again and try later.
Thanks.

Had hoped 'early June' would be this week, but alas the council are still maintaining the boat ramp and the park is closed. There was a flood in the river last month!

Still in Charters Towers. I gathered the info for this multi and headed off to GZ. There, I made a quick find and was soon on my way again. Car troubles have now put an end to my caching for the day. TFTC
Found the monument quickly, did our sums and found the cache in a familiar spot a short walk away.
After a great campfire meal last night at the van park we are staying at, and an even better nights sleep, we have set out to find the caches around the weir. Just a quick deviation at the local market where we picked up a homemade apple pie, fruitcake and some hedgehog and we were on our way. What a lovely community Charters Towers has, with some fantastic spots to visit and history to learn about.
We would like to thank all of the local CO’s for putting out all the caches we have found. We read only a few days ago that while the numbers of people who are geocaching is growing, the number hiding caches is actually falling. So as we regularly say, the CO’s are the most important part of the geocaching world. Without you we would have nothing. You have our sincere appreciation.

Just 17 finds today. We have almost come to the end of our stay in Charters Towers. Last night we had a great "catch up" with the locals. Today we thought it would be nice to attempt the local power trail and then head out to the weir. We got side tracked on our way back and logged a couple more.
Thanks for the history lesson.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found this cache pretty close to where the GPS said he should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
Thanks for the hunt today,

You can't be in this area without reading from the German Explorer Leichhardt.
We collect today the old caches in this area, leaving the new ones for the celebration of 10 years ' geocaching of Team cachedin NQ. Well done.

Grass was a bit long in the area around the plaque, so a fellow geocacher armed with binoculars read me off the required information. A quick sum completed and armed with the final co ordinates I set off and found the cache. Log duly signed. Thanks for this little offset multi.
Dave Chapman Park and boat ramp opened recently after 4 months closure over the wet season. Checked on this cache today and it was still in place and dry.
TFTC smile 8548 out and about with Hatzoff, Snickersallan, RoddyC,
having a great day forgot to log this way back when
Thank you, Cachedin NQ, for placing this cache for our enjoyment.

Day 13 of a road trip to North Qld and having a day trip to Charters Towers from Townsville with grannysmith1947, hatzofff and RoddyC.
Such an enjoyable visit to this town and have only once passed through when I was at a young age and now get to really appreciate the old history here.
Loved the walk around to gather this old history and a nice quick find once at GZ.
Apologies for the generic logs but I must make a special mention of the awesome hospitality and assistance we received on our visit by the local CO's.

All the years I lived in and visited Charters Towers I had never been to this park. Thanks for the cache.
A beautiful location for this mult. History and the river make it such an agreeable spot. Good for a cache location but even better for a camping location if it was allowed. Thanks and fav point
Day 18 of my trip north from Adelaide.
Today was spent caching and sightseeing around Charters Towers. I had picked out the multis, puzzles, wherigos and traditional caches that I was keen to do and picked up a few other opportunistic traditional caches along the way. I also completed the new Lab caches in town.
All in all it was as a very pleasant day, with a cool morning and a relatively mild day, which made things much easier and more enjoyable. In all I managed to find 7 puzzles, 9 multis, 3 wherigos, 13 traditionals and an earthcache for a total of 33 caches for the day (plus the Lab caches). I only had one DNF.
I ended up at this one on the middle of the day and it seemed like a great spot to stop for some lunch under a shady tree.
The numbers were quickly collected (all the time mindful of that ‘widow-maker’ broken limb swinging and groaning in the breeze above the plaque). The cache was a quick find and container and contents were in good order.
Thanks Cachedin NQ for the cache.

Charters Towers.
For the last 2 days we have covered the four corners of the region.
We have found such a good variety of caches in some incredible locations, this has been a wonderful way to tour the town.
So happy that we continued our journey all the way to the weir. Nobody enjoying the area today but I expect that it's very busy in the summer time.
This would make a fantastic camping area but the NO Camping signs are clearly posted.
FP for bringing us to this location
Thanks for placing this amazing series Cachedin NQ

I do like me a good multi. And this one was pretty easy to navigate. Nice hat tip to the early explorers that checked out this area
BlackPearl and I were drawn back to the Towers by the influx of new caches 2 years since our last visit.
Quickly gathered the information needed at the listed coordinates and pondered the great location for a technical tree climb cache with BenM70 who just happened to be visiting/stalking at the location.
BP came up with the find.
Thanks for another one CachedinNQ.
I hope to be visiting this spot again in the future with a kayak or boat.

Out of town for the weekend and a new cache drops. A good chance for some of our new local cachers to get their first *FTF* Imagine my surprise when I drive into towns and this multi is still up for grabs. With the car unpacked in lightning speed I set off. Perfect coords to the info station quickly solved then soon had the prize in hand. TFTC Cachedin NQ Favourite point for bringing me to a spot I rarely visit . Thankyou for the awesome trackable.
