My 3rd and final find today. This is my first time back in NZ since before the pandemic, and I've set myself a goal of reaching 500 finds in NZ before leaving again, and with 437 finds, I'm well on my way
#11,349. Its getting late in the day (well the days are short in winter) and after driving from Westport I still have a few more caches to find before I head to my friends place for the night in Nelson. I need several caches near Motueka. But time still to pick up a few more along this road. This was one of them. Started walking to check out one place when I noticed something and shortly after I spied the well placed cache. Signed the logbook and left the container where found. Thanks Zakaye for hiding it here.
I was looking for a standard hiding spot, when I spotted something shiny winking at me. TFTC.

Today we thought we would head over to Motueka to visit the market & then up the Motueka Valley to Ngatimoti for some geo adventures. My grandparents lived just across the Peninsula Bridge so I love this area The we drove through to Upper Moutere via Risedale Road & stopped at the Upper Moutere pub to refuel The Polenta chippies are yummy!!!!!

Hmm, I wondered if there might be some gold mining around here as I found some good examples of quartz just a bit further up the road at the last cache. For some reason that made me think of gold.
Quick find here, but didn’t get better than +/- 6 metres on the phone. Still, no problems. TFTC Zakaye.
Today we popped in to Motueka to visit the market. It was a bit low key due to the average weather, but we still made some purchases.
On the trip home we took some back roads toward Ngatimoti. Good memories from RG’s childhood out here as this is where her grandparents lived.
For me, some roads I have never been down before and a few caches on the way into Upper Moutere, some refreshments, then off home.

Thanks to a previous log I was careful around the barbed wire. I like the way in which the container is attached to the fence. Thanks for the history. TFTC Zakayé.
A fairly quick find, but beware of the barbed wire lying in front of the hiding place. TFTC
Out for a drive and some fresh air and spotted this one so a quick stop and worked out where we needed to be . Thanks for the cache.
Found the old one that was here a long time ago - GPS put us a wee way to far but when it settled it was a quick find log signed - thanks for the cache
I was quite surprised to see a big truck heading on up the drive as I pulled in. Interesting story thanks Zakayé. TFTC # 17,563
I'd searched near this GZ for a cache previously but ended up in a DNF and possibly on private property. No such problems this time. Cache quickly located and all in good order. Thanks Zakayé for the cache, and the interesting historical references.
A need for some fresh air and the fact we had spent a bit of time on a small conversion with a positive result brought us out this way today. It's a road I've travelled many times in years gone by but not so often these days. GZ was a familiar area though, it's not the first time we've been here in pursuit of a smiley.
I looked at an item less than 15cm from the cache but didn't see it until I moved a bit which changed my angle of vision but it was Hazedarus who spotted it first.
Thank you Zakayé.

With some unfound caches within a reasonable area and a nice sunny afternoon we decided to go for a drive and see what we could find. I seem to remember having hunted for a cache here before.. We thought to spot the cache in a rather difficult place but what seemed a bison was a AA battery A casual check at a more likely spot needed some more focus before we signed the log. Thank you Zakayé
Found with StreetWalkerNZ as we made our way from Takaka to St Arnaud on yet another lovely spring day.
Thanks for the history lesson. Beware the barbed wire near GZ. First time I have found a pencil in a bison tube . TFTC.

After a short walk near Tapawera we drove down the river valley to Motueka. Mrs SoBad had thought she would look for this cache last year when in the wider area cycling but found she had overrun the parking area. Today she was the navigator rather than driver/navigator and it was easy to count the driver down to the park. Good coordinates made it a quick find. The family used to pan for gold but not for many years now and not in this area.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Out for a drive with Ms M on a three cache mission.
This was my standby cache if I had a dnf at one of the planned three which worked out rather well as we then bought donuts and visited friends in Woodstock seeing that we ended driving down the valley. Avoided the barbed wire and spotted the hide.

Found with Ulmuslyn on this beautiful day wasn't long before we had the cache Great hide Thank you for the cache
Very interesting indeed, quick stop on my way to chch. Thanks for the info, and TFTC!
When published this cache tweaked my interest as I have a soft spot for early NZ gold history, having read the article provided and a little further information in Tony Nolan's book it seemed the Golden Gully area while bearing fine drift gold with one digger gaining 18 ounces in one day although there is no mention if this was sustained. Today a short search revealed a glimpse of silver and soon log was signed and returned. Thanks Zakayé another little local history treat and included is a clip from Tony Nolan's book.
Required some careful searching but found it after a few minutes. Great to learn some of the local history. TFTC.
Over the past few months there have been some caches archived and new ones pop up in their place. This has meant we had new green boxes in our sea of yellow so today we headed out to rectify that.
Pulled over here and started our hunt. Had to stop numerous times as the road seemed busy with traffic today. Finally saw something suspicious and there was the cache. Signed off log and returned as found. You really need to watch your step around here. tftc

*Thanks for putting out this cache for woolwood9 and I to find!*
SL **tm/ww NZ** (may just be a black smudge on the many wet or plastic logs)
Weather a bit better today with only a few showers of rain
*Quite a bit of searching, then ww9 finally had this cache located!*
I got a bit tangled in the barbed wire, so be careful.

An awesome day for a country drive today so I headed off to find a few caches in and around the region. A tricky hide without a hint but the cache is definitely still there. Took a systematic search to locate it. Thanks for the listing. I never would have know about this bit of history. TFTC, Biggles.
Found while going past, took me a little bit to track it down because I couldn’t get my phone to go any closer than 5m but got there in the end TFTC
After attending the CITO I did a bit of cache maintenance and a few other things. I noticed the publication of this cache so thought it would be great if I could track it down on the way home. This is a lovely spot with great views of Wharepapa and Crusader. The tui were in full song as I searched for the cache.
I have learned such a lot about gold mining in the South Island since I started geocaching. Now I've learned of another gold rush. I couldn't help wondering if there was golden metal amongst the golden sand as I looked down into the creek bed.
Oh by the way, anyone else looking for this cache needs to know there is barbed wire on the ground which might or might not be anywhere near the cache .
Thanks for the interesting information, the cache and of course for the first to find .
