Spotted and retrieved pretty quickly. My legs are not happy about the amount of blackberries in Fyshwick.
Today fitzy_1965 and I headed into Canberra to attend Mr Hunters Birthday celebration. To fill in some time beforehand, we did a bit of caching. This one could have taken a while but thankfully fitzy had it soon in hand.
Found with minniek during a mini excursion around Canberra prior to attending Mr Hunters' Quarter Century event.A leisurely morning saw us lounge around home for a while before heading into Canberra early afternoon. We wanted to cherry pick a number of caches before the event, and this one was on our list. We parked at Bunnings and headed down the road. So much junk dumped here, although the huge Spa Bath looked ok? We got to GZ and wished we could have seen the original abandoned stuff, as I really enjoy these sorts of caches. With a limited area to search which still has a lot of nooks and crannies I soon took changed altitude and quickly had cache in hand. Stamped the log, replaced the cache as found, then headed off to the next one. Thanks Loci612 !! Awesome place to visit - Fav Point !
It's not a real adventure unless you lose some blood, is it?! Next time M suggests I wear my gaiters, I may just listen to him...Thanks for find #5843TNLN
#4457 As I was already in the area I headed a little further along, being wary of any wriggly sticks amongst the grass. None spotted so uneventful on that aspect.Cleared the mound about 50 metres out and stepped high over fresh blackberry canes for the last 10 metres or so.Checked a few spots before making the right choice and coming up with the find, leaving me quite surprised that I didnt notice it earlier than I did.Nevertheless found, logged and replaced for the next traveller. Thanks Loci for bringing me beyond thunder dome.
A bit sad that all the machinery round here got removed, but at least one remains! A quick find at GZ, enjoyed the extra terrain challenge. Log dry and cache in good condition! TFTC Loci612!
I thought it was about time I came back out here to grab this now that it has been replaced. Found quickly in the only real spot. Thanks
I managed to get within 50m of the cache - nobody around today except for one guy with an empty trailer at the top of the ramp. I jumped off the bike and wandered through the trees to GZ.
Cool spot, it's a shame that the stuff that was dumped here initially has gone, but also good that it has been cleaned up. I spotted the cache from the ground as it did look a touch out of place, blackberries are slowly claiming the structure. I was very happy I still had my gear on and didn't have to worry about the spikes!
TFTC Loci. +1 favourite point I like these kind of areas.

Came through here last week to do the North Shunt Siding cache, and didn’t realise I could access this one from the same starting point. Had to grab a lightbulb from Bunnings, so figured I’d go check out the wasteland.
Such a large area of nothingness! Ground zero is super cool tho, in amongst the assorted junk, long grass and blackberries, and the clue is a little beauty.
Quick find, but spent a bit of time on top of GZ above the wasteland…there was something strangely soothing about it all. That’s the coolest ground zero I’ve seen for a while, thanks for the cache!

Last minute decision for a drive to Canberra. Left last night after work and slept in the car near Ginninderra. This morning a few quick caches and then a Parkrun. Weather better then last night luckily. After the run slowly worked my way to central and also started to pick up some adventure labs.

I always love a good wasteland! A mercifully quick find here in a likely spot.
Thanks, Loci612!
Thanks, Loci612!
The cache has been replaced and is ready to be found!
Thanks to BuddhaJi for all his help

Armed with a hint from the CO I returned today to turn my previous DNF into a smiley. Still no luck. I took a photo of where I thought the cache was hidden and sent it to the CO. He kindly confirmed that was the spot, so unfortunately it looks like the cache missing. I've logged a find with the approval of CO. Love this spot. A FP for the location. I wish I'd scene the area in it 'heyday'!
BuddhaJi had a thorough search for this and after some correspondence with him I believe it is missing. He found the correct spot where the cache should have been. Disabling and hope to replace it soon
O continued on to explore this area some more and came across this interesting structure. Found the cache after a bit of a clamber around. Quiet here today, though the blackberries are encroaching on the structure. Thanks for hiding and maintaining this cache Loci612
Spidey senses were on high alert and made find in seconds.
Abandoned wasteland is a little creepy ... and muddy!

Sometimes there’s moments that make you think ‘is it urban myth about waking up in a bath of ice with a kidney missing?’
Driving to the locale with DSD shouting (useless) directions at me, certainly felt that way.
Cool spot for a hide! Good one

Cake or pie? I can tell a lot about you by which one you pick. It may seem silly, but cake people and pie people are really different. I know which one I hope you are, but that's not for me to decide. So, what is it? Cake or pie?
He walked down the steps from the train station in a bit of a hurry knowing the secrets in the briefcase must be secured as quickly as possible. Bounding down the steps, he heard something behind him and quickly turned in a panic. There was nobody there but a pair of old worn-out shoes were placed neatly on the steps he had just come down. Had he past them without seeing them? It didn't seem possible. He was about to turn and be on his way when a deep chill filled his body.
Turning away from the ledge, he started slowly down the mountain, deciding that he would, that very night, satisfy his curiosity about the man-house. In the meantime, he would go down into the canyon and get a cool drink, after which he would visit some berry patches just over the ridge, and explore among the foothills a bit before his nap-time, which always came just after the sun had walked past the middle of the sky. At that period of the day the sun’s warm rays seemed to cast a sleepy spell over the silent mountainside, so all of the animals, with one accord, had decided it should be the hour for their mid-day sleep.
Sleep deprivation causes all sorts of challenges and problems. When one doesn’t get enough sleep one’s mind doesn’t work clearly. Studies have shown that after staying awake for 24 hours one’s ability to do simple math is greatly impaired. Driving tired has been shown to be as bad as driving drunk. Moods change, depression, anxiety, and mania can be induced by lack of sleep. As much as people try to do without enough sleep it is a wonder more crazy things don’t happen in this world.
Found and signed dsd or Darksidedan or AB or Adventure Boys to save space in the logbook thanks for the cache and the adventure
I am glad I didn't tey this last week. Going by the drying out mud I would have been very slippery to get here.
Quick find at GZ, though I may have been spotted by a nearby digger driver. If their memory is like mine they will have forgotten about that incident by the time they knock off work.
I love abandoned places.
Lots of birds around as well.

I went to Bunnings to pick up a few things. For non-tradespeople like me it's now 'Click and Collect'; a new experience.
Last night I put in my order, paid and waited to hear when I could pick up my goods. A message came and I picked the next available slot; 3pm. Then at 3pm I drove out here into the collect lane. No queue. The car park has been reorganised. After my goods were delivered and placed in my boot, I decided to try for this nearby cache again (daily allowed exercise), having had a DNF in December 2020. It was then I thought of other things (as you do ) I should have ordered from Bunnings; replacement rechargeable batteries for my GPS and a new charger. Oh well, I will be back.
I parked near the electrical sub-station in Tennant Street and walked the 300 plus metres to GZ. I worked out quickly where the cache was likely to be hidden, but it was a matter of working out how this no longer young person would access it. Fortunately I had brought along a 'booster'. After some struggling I made it and then a quick find. My guess to hidey place was collect. Cache and log are good. I signed, returned the cache and then struggled down which was the hardest direction. Soaked bottom from heaving myself onto the wet equipment. Then I had the 300 plus metre walk back to my car. At least the walk was easy . Nice to change that to . TFTC Loci612.

Out in the area after dropping Dino at a part in Narrabundah. Since I don't get out to this side of town too often it was a good ocasion to collect a few ALs and Caches in the areal. I started in Fyshwick as there was some caches where daylight and timing was important and then made my way back through Narrabundah with a stop for dinner at the Harmonie Club to Kingston before heading home.
I was bummed when I saw that this one had gone and the CO confirmed and pointed out that it was likly not being replaced, when I saw that it was I had a big and was looking forward to explore the area. A bit tricky after all the rain there was a lot of water around in the different ponds, but found a way through and a different way back out. It was clear what I had to do once at GZ and also not too hard given my physique. It was essentially dark by this stage about 1h hour after sunset, so I didn't dwell for long or checked out the area. Some other time maybe.
A fun hiding spot, deserves a FAVpoint getting us out here showing the place and the little challenge.
Thank you Loci612 for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

I was in the area and felt like finding a few caches. I’ve driven by the parking coordinates hundreds of times and always wondered who would park there. Based upon the description I lugged a TOTT along for the walk and was able to make the retrieval quite quickly. TFTH
As I walked up I said to myself. Hope it's not there.
Spent several minutes looking at other potential spots in hope. Dam. Spent a few more minutes getting to the dreaded spot. Yep that's where it was.
Interesting place. Fyshwich is endlessly weird. Than for the cache.
Btw fresh log book. Thanks for the maintenance run loci.

Despite the clean-up around GZ, one piece of equipment survived! Even better a similar hide could be achieved! Let’s hope this one stays!
Cache on!
Cache on!
Still deciding if this geocache can be resurrected or not..... would be a shame to have to archive for the first time! But it is not looking too good at this stage with the significant changes around GZ.
Found Contesta, a quick find of a sneaky hide, deserves a fav for being so devious. TFTC.
TFTC Now that was a hard one. Thank goodness for previous clues. Easy retrieval though. Great day for caching today, thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining this cache.
Found it with the help of a previous finder’s clue and an agile 11yo. Didn’t have a pen for the log unfortunately. This was a cool weird place to explore. Shoes a bit muddy now though.
I cycled to Bunnings and after making my purchase, headed here. I figured the way in must be near the parking spot, but I was wrong. Tricky that! It was hard going for the bike; in fact it became impossible for the bike, and I turned back. I checked the map on the Garmin and saw a much better access at S 35° 19.867 E 149° 10.864. From this way in, I rode almost all the way to GZ.
I searched near GZ, the two concrete blocks and the wooden pallet (because I had read a log about non-magnetic). I expanded the search. My phone is out of action, so I only had a few logs in the Garmin's bulk load available to read.
Now I am back home and can read more logs, I am suspicious I should have checked higher, but the terrain rating didn't indicate that to me.
DNF.

Lot's of deceiving hints in the logs and I am still not sure of what to think of when looking at the listing. How is this RV accessible? Too confusing. Had to call in PAF and was told to look where I thought I already had, just not high enough because of the logs.
Thanks Loci612

Out with NM and McCosker on our lunch break. Needed an extra hint on this one, put myself in a somewhat dangerous position and sure enough that was the right move.
don't Look down on yourself if you can't find it straight away, this is a bit Higher, i mean harder than the difficultly suggests. once you rise to the Top just Reach Up and you might find it.
Tricky, tricky - can’t believe after soooo much caching we still get tricked. Obvious, just think laterally. Even with a broken leg in a moonboot I was inches from it and didn’t think to look in the opposite direction. Well done for the obvious kind of hide - let’s hope that 'they' don’t move all this machinery any time soon. Despite this horrible, sad place it’s worth a favourite for making us look silly - again. TFTC Loci612.

After tonight's orienteering in Kingston, I dropped by a few caches to top up my find numbers for the day. Almost dark, and no torch. Nothing spotted initially, so read a few logs. Further searching revealed the cache. TFTC.

This one took a while but got there in the end. Definitely needed the hint for this one. TFTC
Very cool!
Once I expanded my thinking to include non-magnetic hides I found it pretty quickly.
A favourite!!

#10134 - 08:45; I had to drop the geohoney's car off for a service, so decided to take a wander around some of the newer caches in and around Fyshwick while I waited for the coffee shops to open in the DFO! This was the second stop and took a bit longer than the first. Only had the iPhone and it kept point me in the wrong direction for some reason it seems. Ended up using the PAF option and was soon pointed the right way and was soon adding my name to the log. I should have realised by the CO not to limit my options too much! TFTC Loci612
We decided to spend a weekend in Canberra for our sons 6th birthday. We haven't been there since moving from Goulburn to Dubbo a few years ago and with covid 19 in Sydney we soon realised Canberra was our best option and we didn't regret it. We even missed it a heap. As always not enough time spent to enjoy one of our favourite places in Australia. We made the dash from dubbo via Cowra and Yass we were landed at the adina apartments for a few nights in Braddon. Beautiful food nearby and very central to everything. Absolute amazing weekend.
Decided to do a few caches while in town.
Decided to do a few caches while in town.
Decided I needed to get a souvenir. A muddy walk to gz. Knowing the CO, I had a pretty good idea of the hint. Cache soon signed. TFTC Loci
Slipped and slid my way down to the junkyard, what a mess. GPRs jumping around big time, really didn’t help much either. Took a few minutes to assess the site, and in conjunction with current CO MOs soon spotted a likely hide. Seconds later, CIH. Signed and replaced and retraced my ‘steps’ back to the geomobile. TNLNSL TFTC
I had one more day off, and after doing the shopping I headed over here for a look around. Plenty of options, but I did not see what was needed until I had searched several other locations. I worked out what you mean in the hint afterwards, but there are more than one way to interpret it. A fun cache in the end.
Thanks for the cache Loci612

With dty73 and Tankengine this was one of the caches we had as a possibility for the day. Sure are a lot of things dumped in this area but its rather interesting also. Our initial searching was sort of correct but we had misinterpreted the hint, made sense once it was found but had us thinking differently before that. Once dty73 spotted the cache Te made the sign but I went after to see if I could, a little unnerving with me needing two hands but achievable. Thanks for the cache Loci.
Out with Aquilus1 and Tankengine on a cold a damp morning. We had a number of caches to get today. We had a good day and by the time we were finished it was right in time for lunch where we met up with another caching friend for a very yummy, warm lunch.
This cache: Well this one was so much better than I thought it was going to be. I didn't look at much other than the D/T and thought the worse knowing the CO. But then after our phones kept swirling around and bringing us constantly into the middle I stopped and looked around, then re-read the listing and as soon as I read the hint I had an idea and instantly saw the cache. Nice work on this one. I like something a little different and that brings me to an interesting spot like this one. Tftc Loci612!!!

Found with dty73 and Aquilus1. After coming off the high from finding the previous cache, using a method I had never used before - we decided to tackle this one. This time I took the girls advice re parking, as I didn't want to be wrong twice in a row! We soon arrived at GZ with thick mud on our shoes... Hmmm, what an interesting place. Well, with GZ exactly in the centre of 3 of the most interesting structures (I wonder if that was intentional?) we attacked one each. After a little while we swapped things about a bit. Not to long after that - dty73 spotted it! - Just above my head, she said! OK - with a little twist I managed to get it! Phew, that didn't take too long after all! Thanks for the interesting area and cache Loci612 - certainly not hidden the way I expected it to be.
There is no short cut to this cache as you have pass many obstacles and unusual sights no matter what time of day. Didn't count all the objects near GZ, but there are a few around of all sorts of shapes and sizes.
The slight mist and wet ground made things a bit tricky but the FTF position was soon signed and replaced back in its position with not a worker in sight nearby.
Hopefully all this area gets cleaned up properly one day and they make something nice out of this large patch .
Many thanks to Loci612 for another nice cache hide that will elude plenty in the search attempts.

Having seen the notification of this new cache pop up this morning, I hastened here as soon as I finished work.
There is an interesting assortment of rusting relics at GZ - machinery formerly used in the manufacture of concrete paving and blocks I suspect. Such oxidising oddities provide a plethora of hiding spaces for deviously hidden caches and I spent some time searching before contacting the CO to ensure I was on the right track - I was and very soon thereafter located the cache. I had actually bumped against its hiding spot early on in my search but my focus was elsewhere!
Thanks Loci612 for another fun cache!
