Thank you for hosting this geocaching event! The date of the event has passed. We automatically archive events after 30 days (60 days for Mega- and Giga-Events). Attendees can still log archived events, log trackables, and share their experiences.
A special thanks to John (yof) for his help throughout the event for his help and his caches that make these events.
Some other cachers that need to be thanked, my daughter Dianne (discrappbooking), Bruce (Liz and Bruce) for hiding some more caches for me and others to find in the area.
This years event was not without its own problems, due to Covid 19 and its seemingly and endlessly changing restrictions. All good in the end, except, on arrival on Thursday 31st, we were informed that we couldn't camp inside the enclosed area, except for those under the 2 buildings, everyone else had to camp out on the grass. Just meant a longer walk or drive to the showers, no big deal. The reason given is that tents and caravan annexes tend to kill the grass under the tent floor, as was evident when the cachers left. Understand fully. We even won something, found out the last day, we don't have to remove our rubbish anymore, as the Gympie Regional Council have put the Showgrounds on their garbage run.
New Years Eve went off well, first time in manyayear that I got close, think I called it a night with about 10 minutes to go, oh well, there's always next year.
There was some discussion about keeping these events at Kilkivan or moving them somewhere else. After much discussion and positive feed back from you, it has been decided to keep them here, at least for the next couple, which will be in June/July and again for the next New Year Fri 31st Dec - Tues 4th Jan.
For those that attended this years event, please pass on your favorable comments to your friends for the future events held here, especially any newbies that you come across. just love their comments after they have found Mudlo National Park GC7QYWD. Some are priceless.
And lastly, Kilkivan thanks everyone that attended with their boost to the local economy.
Till next time, Cheers Keith.
All four members of the SunCoastGeocaching team would love to thank Sweet-Sour for creating this great opportunity for us to come and participate and catch up.
We are not newbies anymore but always willing to learn.
Big Thank-you Sweet Sour

Thank you for hosting this event. Really good turn out. It has been great assisting you with these events in Kilkkivan. TFTCE
Great to get back here for an event! Unlike the last few years I was unable to camp overnight, but managed to make the most of a looong daytrip instead. Big thanks to Keith and John for your generosity organising, hopefully next year my dates line up better and I get to camp again and have a more relaxed visit.

Attended with my main squeeze, Oddiewan and our new little geopup. This is our third event in Kilkivan and we are keen on this place, the camping and all the caches we have found and have yet to find. We always enjoy ringing in the New Year with dear friends and new friends— dominoes kept us all awake until the NY toast this time. All good fun!
Thanks for the fun, Sweet-Sour

1/1/21 15:48 Lucky the event was spread out over a few hours and I still only just managed to make it here on time. Thanks for the event Sweet-Sour. A nice way to start the new year.
**Bugs First Celebration Event**
Been eyeing this event off since creation but was unsure I would be able to get there or not. Recent events led me open for a few days for a trip to Gayndah to attend to some cache maintenance from the last trip.
To be honest, cachers only need an event as an excuse.
Dropped past today 11:30-12:30 or so before I was on my merry way.
Thank you so much Sweet Sour for organising this one. This is the first New Years Newbies Event I have got to since 2013!

It has been great to meet some other cachers. I will be going home with some new skills. Looking forward to sharing them with my children. Certainly didn't have time to get every cache up here, so I will have to come back one day.
So this trip was my third trip to Kilkivan for the new year newbie event.
I always have lots of fun at these events. And long night of chatting to do.
So for the generic post. Because I always find to many caches
Thank you Youngoldfella and Sweet-sour for running these events

As the host for this event, and this is the only cache type that the CO is allowed to log, I better claim my attended smilies.
See my previous log for more comments.

Thank you so much to sweet-sour and you for putting this great event together. I really enjoyed meeting cachers I hadn't previously met, and loved catching up with familiar cachers.
Will be back at the next event for sure.
A massive THANK YOU to those who placed new caches for the event, and to those who have maintained the older caches here. Your efforts are truly appreciated

My plan for Friday was to attend the New Year’s early morning event, then drive up to Gympie to grab a couple and then on to Kilkivan for the weekend event. Having never been an event of this type before I really wasn’t sure what the processes were, so I planned to only stay one night.
It was a great setup, people were coming and going siting their itineraries; the whole set up was very laid back, awesome.
I was greeted at the meet up with a big “how are you” and it was good to see some familiar faces, this really eased my apprehensiveness.
A day of caching and there is sooo much up here to collect I was overwhelmed. Day two and I still hadn’t achieved my target, so with an extended leave pass from home I managed to stay an extra night. There were caches, ftf’s, fun, catch-ups, games, adventures, some mishaps and a great time.
I really enjoyed being here and will be back next time; a big thank you to the organisers and the helpers for this event, it was really well done, a very well deserved favourite point for this event if we could.
Thanks to my caching buddies with caching time and to the others with the helps during the event.

We finally made it to a kilkivan newbies event!!! What a great location, and a great bunch of people. We dropped in after the cito and some caching on Saturday before heading off again. Sorry we didn’t get to meet you keith — John said you were out nabbing some new hides . We stayed and chatted with the couple of others still around while we had our lunch anyway and had a good time all round. Thanks for these new year events SS in this lovely town.
Just moved to the Sunshine Coast last year, so I'm a newbie.
I've heard about this annual event and so glad I could make it this time.
Thanks for the event and taking us here Sweet-Sour. Enjoyed the company of like minded people.
Please check out https://coord.info/GC8M4ZQ - CacheQLD - Dayboro - Queensland's Next Big Event 03 April 2021, 07:00 - 23:45 and log your will attend. It's going to be a great event.

Many thanks to the organisers, a credit to the local geocachers. It never ceases to amaze us that so many geocaches have been placed in and around Kilkivan (population 713). There are some towns, much larger than Kilkivan that have far fewer geocaches. Coonabarabran NSW (population 2,500) for instance, has NO CACHES listed on geocaching.com within 20 klm's of the town centre.

A great event, plenty of caches and shared experiences. We even managed to stay awake and saw the New Year in by playing dominoes and enjoying some beverages . Thanks Sweet-sour and YOF
Great to catch up at another newbies event in your area Sweet-Sour.
We enjoyed another frenzy of picking up caches in the country.

In the Kilkivan area for a couple of days caching based around the annual Newbies Event. Loving the tradition, and today it wasn't too hot and the rains disappeared come lunch time. Thanks guys for all the organisation.
Enjoyed coming up from the GC for this event, so lovely to catch up with geo friends and also some new cachers.

In the past year, we spent couple of days in this area. But it's our first time for a New Year's event. Thanks for organising this event, Sweet-Sour.
What a great finish to 2020 and start to 2021! A big thank you to Sweet-Sour and youngoldfella for all of the hard work they do putting these events together and placing so many hides for us all to find. And to other players as well for their extra hides too! Great to see some old friends and new faces alike. Grateful that we managed to stay mostly dry and that we had pleasant temperatures instead of searing summer heat! Happy caching everyone
Karicka and I drove up for the event. It turned out to be a massive day driving to and from Brisbane in 13.5hrs and collecting 45 caches along the way including 2 events, 10 labs, 3 multis and a few puzzles. Thanks for the event
Attended for a morning catch up.
Great to see the level of organisation, would have liked to stay overnight but it was not an option this year.
Thank you for organising Sweet-Sour

Going to log a will attend, we will camp Friday night, 2 Wallabies and 1 Dog
Kilkivan tomorrow, the rain has been light over the last 24 hours, at Widgee we have had 30 mm in the last 24 hours, from reports I've had Kilkivan is the same. The forecast for Gympie is showers for the weekend, Kingaroy forecast is slight chance of a shower/mostly cloudy and Kilkivan is in the middle that equates to cloudy with a chance of a shower, all good.
This is no excuse to quit, should make this a very pleasant weekend See everyone there.
Cheers Keith

Might be able to attend this one, only an hour and a half drive from my place. Might only be there for the event.
I’ll for sure be there for this event. Will have to firm up details about an extended visit before committing to that.
