My youngest and I are on a short roadtrip out west to see the sights and collect some smileys. Some great scenery spotted today on our slow trip from Roma to Dalby. Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining these caches for us to enjoy
Note: My friend's Dad, who knows everything about everything tells me this is a sewer vent?

Hi there xusia, we found your cache What The Heck IS This Thing? today.
We are slowly meandering towards Hervey Bay, and have stopped off in Bell for a few days.
The thing is a stink pipe for the underground sewer.
Coordinate Accuracy: We found this cache near where the GPS said we should be looking.
Cache Condition: The container and log are in good shape.
Regards
Ian & Penny

First time to this town in the Western Downs for our little family. Nothing like caching to get you out of the confines of your accommodation and exploring an area.
So what the heck is that thing? Geohubby says heater. Wife says decommissioned incinerator

I am tall but still needed my walking stick to extract the container. I guess it is a stink pipe. TFTC
Arriving at GZ we were able to park very close to GZ.
We had a lovely weekend at the event in Cunnamulla.
We took a break in Dalby, and had the opportunity to visit this one. A bit of searching from the car, with our eyes, and we soon could see something worth investigating. Yep… what the HECK is this?!
Log signed.
Thanks

Last day in town. Time to make the trip home. Thoroughly enjoyed our time out west. Already started planning the next trip!
Returning from Cunnamulla and surrounding districts after the QOGM events. We're enjoying the cool clear weather and unique outback geology, flora and fauna encounters, and historical places of interest along the way.
Find #11875 @ 12:05

Adora Belle Dearheart is the object of Moist von Lipwig's affections. She works for the Golem Trust, and often makes sure that their well-being is being taken care of, as well as their rights. Adora Belle speaks fluent Ancient Golem and is able to understand and communicate with most of her charges, although at times must call in an expert such as Professor Flead.
She mostly wears heels and dresses which are tight, severe and ostensibly modest. She also smokes like a chimney. Her whereabouts can be determined by asking the tobacconists, or simply finding a huge cloud of cigarette smoke and heading toward the middle of it. Efforts to dissuade her from smoking are generally futile and any long time without a cigarette is likely to put her in quite a bad and, for the people around her, dangerous mood.

I did not need a special tool or a box and your nose should tell you what it is lol
Surprisingly quiet at the playground this morning despite it being school holidays.
The container was easily reached with a stick that was lying conveniently nearby. Used same stick to slide the cache back after signing.

Met up with Chamad for a road trip to Cunnamulla for QOGM. Our aim was to get to St George by dinner, so we had time to collect some target caches along the way. It was so windy and cold, so quick finds were much appreciated. I couldn't work out why I had left this unfound when driving through the with kids after our Emerald trip. But as I turned into the street, it all came back to me. We were not tall enough!! Got it this time with Chamad able too reach out for me.
Parked up to brake the journey on our way from the Sunshine Coast to Cunnamulla and soon had the cache in hand with a TOTT. No idea what this thing is!! TFTC xusia
On our way to Carnarvon Gorge and stopping at a few places to stretch the legs before continuing on.
Good hide and a quick find, thanks CO.

Grabbed while traveling our wonderful country on route to Cunnamulla. I’m putting my money on a sewer vent pipe although they are generally another 6 or so metres taller. TFTC xusia.

Came out to dalby for parkrun this morning. After running around Myall creek we drove around picking up caches. Certainly is an interesting structure, but no idea what it is. Tftc xusia
Delivering parts to Dalby and decided to grab this one . I found a branch with a small nub on it to get the cache down .
Don't know what it is but some sort of vent would be my guess

Found quickly after picking up some supplies in Dalby this morning. It is some kind of vent fellow geocacher who had the ladder to reach thinks it from a water treatment plant. My guess is. it come off a dust extraction plant that drew dust from a work area and dumped it into vats and the cleaner air would be channeled out though this thing going by what appears to be filters at the vents. TFTC.
Have been camping at Bell, arrived Thursday from Widgee for Saturday Event & CITO. Having done all the caches I could in the area, time to move on, heading to Toowoomba , for an evening meal with my daughter.
On arrival, found Trecking Trev trying to get the cache down, but to no avail, don't need the GPS, bring the ladder. Anyhow, found this cache on the way. All good

Found a nearby implement....stood on geopartners back to reach up and knock cache down. Reverse and threw cache back up. A very strong magnet
We speculate the hide could be an underground ventilation shaft..or simply an olden days street light standard. A great place for a hide. Thanks

Nice little caching weekend Beaudesert to Nindigully on Friday night, exploring Thallon & St George on the Saturday, then Nindigully back to Beaudesert vis Surat, Meandarra & Dalby. Had a blast, found all but one cache, and cleaned up the map a lot. 24 down, out of 26, All caches were either stamped or signed with either RC13 or Rogersclan13 depending on space.
I legit looked at this before heading to a tree. Had no luck finding it around the tree, only to quickly realise my errors. I have zero idea what this thing even is, but the cache was very much in plain sight.
Thanks for the cache **xusia**

After a day on the country roads caching we decided to do the ones around Dalby before heading home tomorrow.
I agree to your question title for the cache - able to find quite easily.

This one had me stumped. Spent some time searching without success. Took my searching a little bit further and read description and other logs. More searching and I noticed something that looked very much a cache container. Yes it is . Signed log. TFTC
Catching up on my logs. Found at 6Am on the day with the use of my torch. All good . TFTC
PirateLinda and I are on our way to Bell.... well that was the plan at 7am this morning... it's now closer to 1pm and the day is getting away from us...
After consuming "food" at the local Mickey D's, and being outraged that I couldn't have a thickshake of any flavour, a left turn only sign saw us detour past this cache...
Despite a muggle in a van closeby, I was able to use the "thing" to cover my antics to retrieve the cache... The nearby plaque about Prickly Pear and the efforts to eradicate it was very interesting...
PirateLinda then got distracted by the ducks, the moorehens, and finally a local pooch... no wonder it's taken almost five hours to get here.... TFTC....

Found while out on a day of adventuring with Peppa. Like others I think perhaps some type of vent for some sort of water system.
This was our last day of 9 days of 12 hrs driving and caching from Brisbane to Hervey Bay to Gladstone to Emerald to Roma to Chinchilla. This was the Chinchilla to Brisbane leg. We saw it, but couldn't reach it with the step we had in the car. Maybe someone close to 6foot with a step would have better luck.
After a walk along the river, capturing a few nature shots, including a possum Koala) in one of the trees, we collected this one on the? oversize letterbox.
Well, this journey started about 12 months or more ago, skip 2020 and we find ourselves planning a long-overdue road trip. This means one thing ... a cache run would be involved. One or two different routes where planned caches were studied, some more than others (manly puzzle styles), and a plan was hatched.
It includes the most number of puzzles we have ever solved personally, Wherigo's, and even a few 'FTF' (FTF) FTF caches. The distance that was driven is approx. 3500 km. Over some 10 days. 14km of muddy, red, and black soil 4wd only slip-sliding heart-pumping road - which we got through without incident only to get bogged a while later on the side of a tar road doing a U-turn.
The total number of caches found is yet to be determined, could also depend upon my logging them, as those who know me also know my lack of logging or length of time to do so could mean the correct total will never be shown. Still, it’s not about the numbers.
Logs have been signed with any one of the following, JABs, FWBs, TasReach, MEMO, or TR. Often depended upon who was signing the logbook, time of the day, length of the days caching run, sleep-deprived state, condition of the logbook. Penned often in the first available spot (except in the case of new cache), in between other cache's names. Hopefully to help extend the life of a logbook. The date was not often recorded, again to save room and maybe a little time.
Distance travel is undetermined, basically, fly from Hobart to Brisbane, drive northerly to Gympie, out through Gayndah, Monto to the Westwood, and then term west straight out to Longreach, with a part-day layover to collect all those 92 solved puzzles. Home is hopefully via Jericho, south through Mexico and into Blackall then down and cross to Roma, Toowoomba Brissie and fly home.
Meeting up with great family friends of ours to share part of this journey MEMO, the cache name TasReach or TR for short was born, been both Tasmania and Longreach. So wished each cache could have its own story, but in that case, I would never finish logging. So I thought a long story was better than a TFTC. But hey thanks for the cache anyway.
JABs.

We needed to be a bit creative to retrieve and replace the container. A interesting item which looks like the top of a vent pipe as seen elsewhere. TFTC.
Thanks. Interesting location. My guess is that it’s a vent for a storm water or sewerage.
Agreed - what the heck is this thing! First find on our week long road trip around western Qld. TFTC
What to do on a cool but sunny Thursday morning?
We pondered this & other mindblowing questions over coffee & Mr VC offered a suggestion.
"There are about 9 FTFs out west a little that we might have a chance at securing ... plus several other caches as well." I said to Mrs VC, huddled snugly in a blanket.
"Where?" responded Mrs VC.
"Oh, out near a quaint little place called Bell." I said before going all in with "About 3 hours away."
...
After the nuclear fallout had cleared we made up & bundled Winter the Geo-Cat into the Geo-Beast then hit the bitumen with a mission in mind.
9 FTFs ... I wonder if we can get at least 1? [?]
We planned to overshoot the FTFs & pick up a few scattered caches first, this was #3.
We pulled up close & spent a few minutes waiting for a couple of old timers to clamber into their ute & move on but realised that was not going to happen anytime soon.
Pondering [?] our options they were soon narrowed down to ...
1. Leave
2. Wait for who knows HOW LONG!
3. Try & create a plausible diversion
or
4. Just go for gold!
Being patient people ... able to accept or tolerate delays, problems or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious (NOT) ... we quickly chose option 4!
Going totally unnoticed, whilst in plain sight, I quickly spotted the container & launched myself into the air (a bit like a Toyota ad really) & just managed to dislodge & catch it, landing awkwardly but luckily avoiding personal injury or harm.
Glancing toward the muggles I realised I must be the Invisible Man as there was no change in their focus at all.
I was completely safe from detection ... unbelievable, the concentration they had on the back of their vehicle, oblivious to the rest of the universe!
I fumbled the log out & quickly made our mark ... now, how to replace it? [?]
Retrieving a certain 'safety tool' (a 3cm thick by 70cm long piece of polished hardwood ) that I kept by the driver's seat I balanced the container on the flat end of it & carefully reached up until, thunk the container leapt up to safely secure itself once more.
I surveyed the area to assure myself that I had, successfully, remained unnoticed ... I had!
As I returned to the Geo-Beast a local lady, walking her dog, approached her car which was parked next to us so I took the opportunity to enquire if she knew what this THING is ... pointing toward the 'tower of terror' so there was no misunderstanding.
Apparently it is a breather for (she thinks) the sewers below & stinks quite regularly.
OK, thanks ... now off for some breakfast (heave).

This morning I'm on a road trip with oz_bean_counter and her Miss 12. Eventually, we'll head from Brisbane to Dalby, then onto nearly Nanango via Crows Nest. After deciding against a mountain climb, we arrive in Dalby earlier than planned, but that's not really a bad thing. This whole trip was centred on my need to visit this town to sort out some geocache business.
Given my familiarity with this park, I was surprised hadn't noticed this icon here until just before departure. But, it made it onto my saved list and seeing as we were visiting mere metres away, why not have a look for it.
And I haven't a clue what it is. I bet someone at council likely does though. But today, as long as we know about the geocache, we'll be satiated. Upon arrival, I quickly spot the container, then give grief to OBC when she doesn't also spot it immediately.
Some sort of mother ship? A Russian spy microphone? The other end of the Kola Superdeep? Look, all of these are perfectly cromulent proposals. But right now, we sign the logbook and with the utmost of stealth given a family or two nearby of the play equipment, it is replaced just before 10:00. Thanks for this geocache, xusia

An epic roadtrip was planned from Brisbane North to Brisbane South to Toowoomba to Dalby to Crows Nest to Nanango, and home again. This one fit within our giant circumnavigation of the earth (well that's what it felt like!) and I was delighted that my 12 year old decided to join me, as did Captain Terror. Of course, what happens on tour stays on tour, but I thoroughly enjoyed the day - the laughs, the company and the caches.

Day 8 - Homeward Bound
Aquilus1, Tankengine and I drove from Bundaberg to Toowoomba today.
More counties were on the agenda to pick up with a couple of tourist spots as well. We met some more awesome people, ate some amazing foods and found a few good caches.
One highlight was that we discovered that the tree felling along some of the highway is being done for safety reasons. Statistically drivers die within the first 9m of coming off the road. So they remove the trees and you should slow down when you hit the dirt and hopefully wake up when you get to bumpy ground. You won’t stop in time to hit a tree, but the impact should lessen.
This cache: Seems someone used the toilet before us. Pooooeeyyy! But a quick find. No one at the park right now to see us get the cache. Tftc xusia!!!

Trip log: Day 8 of the 10 day Easter Queensland Trip with dty73 and Tankengine. As has been the way, covid threw things into doubt but we packed the car and headed off waiting to find the fate of the Dayboro Mega and if QLD would be the destination. On route to the north of NSW to stand by and wait... we got the news it was all go!
Having spent a few nights in Bundaberg under a welcomed sunny blue sky, a sure contrast to the wet days of the Mega, it was time to make our way southish. A selection of counties along the way with some sideways detours to find the ones we could get. Lots of bottle trees, prickly pear and a range of terrain but a lush green and scenic drive to Toowoomba.

On a drive today from Roma to Brisbane this was a welcome spot to take a break and have some lunch. Unfortunately there were a family rigging up to do a spot of fishing in the river, so the requests to join them had to be turned down, or we would never make it home. Now on a promise to wet a line tomorrow. The cache took a little while to find, but on a re read of the description, I quickly spotted something that resembled the cache name. Laughed very hard at this one. All good with the cache, and for once my height came in handy so no ladder / box / child required to retrieve. All good with the cache and thanks very much for placing. Cheers
We managed to find the cache ..we got it down and signed log..lots of muggles around
Bit of a challenge! Out geocaching with Gem-54 signed log and replaced as found TFTC
It would have to be a vent of some sort. Thanks for bringing me here. All is good with this one
Day 1 of my road trip, arriving at Dalby it is time to tackle the caches here.
Yeah, what is this thing? How random!!
Cache quickly found, log signed, cache replaced as found.
Thanks xusia for placing the cache here.

Our first stop on our road trip from Brisbane to Winton. A quck stop and quick gecache find. Hmmm very interesting cache location no idea of what it IS! TFTC
Today was the second day of my little journey to an around outback Queensland. While I’m not in a hurry, I do have a list of caches that I do want to collect along the way and probably some extras as I see fit. It won’t be hard to continue my challenges of a trad a day and a cache a day challenges for the next few days, I am also hoping to pick up a few new challenges along the way and some target caches too.
My plans today were to walk the caches of Mt. Peel and then head west, plus grab a couple of extras as I passed by, and be in Dalby by night.
No Problems grabbing this one today even with a family nearby. I do have a suggestion that maybe a vent pipe for the sewer system judging by the smell coming out of it tonight when I found the cache.
All good with this cache and with it found and log signed I returned it as found; thanks for placing it here, now it’s time for a couple others on my way west.

I've seen this THING before, approximately 40 years ago on a special ABC broadcast (in black and white). Its the rocket that Mr Squiggle uses to visit friends from his home at 93 Crater Crescent on the Moon. Would have been great to wait around to get a squiggle portrait but time was against the JAGET team to get back to Toowoomba. Thanks for bringing us here xusia.
What the heck indeed.. one member of the group had a theory that sounded very interesting
TFTC!
TFTC!
Ummm it’s clearly a wigwam for a gooses bridle. Well that’s what my dad would tell me. Funny looking thing.
Oh my goodness. A surprise *FTF*. Located in the presence of some new caching folks. I think this is a vent pipe for a sewage system.
