Looking at my. Townsville map in preparation for a visit in the New Year I saw this cache with a tick - a challenge I made a note on after finding earlier in the year while on a teaching stretch at end of term 2. Hit the checker and with no great surprise I can see I qualify. I am surprised at the number it states I have - although there was that big fishing trip in South Australia that would more than account for most of that now. [JACS Team](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=JACS%20Team) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8ZH5T/54352 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did.You have found 928 caches of type "Power trail"

(# 10191) My first found geocache in Australia! I'm visiting an old friend, we were comrades in arms when doing the military service in the coastal artillery in Sweden. That was more than 45 years ago... We don't see each other too often, since he has been working abroad in different countries in Asia for decades. Now he is living in Townsville since 2016 with wife and daughter. He is planning to eventually move back to Sweden, so I thought it best to pay him a visit NOW. This geocache is actually the nearest one to where he lives. I arrived here yesterday, and today my friend and I took a bicycle ride along the Ross river. Since he is not a geocacher, I'd better break the news about my hobby gently, so I will not try to log every cache possible. But this one is a must. Not being a great fan of powertrails (I'm more for quality than quantity), I was at first a little sad about the task to achieve to qualify for this challenge. But I ran the checker, and was surprised to see the green light. I usually go about challenges that way; FIRST I qualify, THEN I seek the cache. I know you CAN sign the log, and then, sometime in the future when you're qualified, say that you found it. But that is not my MO.) We actually spotted the cache simultaneously, I proudly signed the log with my nick:// e-scape[e-scape](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=e-scape) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8ZH5T/54352 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did.You have found 184 caches of type "Power trail"

Departed Melbourne several weeks ago now and have been travelling north for the winter, well, for the northern warmth actually (hopefully Smile), passing through as many small towns as I can grabbing the odd cache here and there as I travel.
Finally made the northern warmth and the Cape and we have loved every minute of it Smile now we are on our way home again and having many more adventures as we slowly travel south.
Spending a few extra days in Townsville now due to a cracked chassis and tow bar mount, due to get fixed this week before we can move on again. Hopefully, we will be picking it up this afternoon.
Another day touring, shopping and geocaching around Townsville.
A quick find here today.

At last I am able to sign off on this challenge. A long while in the making quickly collecting my first RRPT caches then making my way slowly though the last 30. After collecting the RRBPT yesterday I can finally say I have don’t this challenge with 101 caches that meet the requirements .

Signed the log quite a while back but now I can finally log online.

Thankyou for the cache. It’s a good challenge to get you out and to slowly work towards. Now just 99% monkey that’s almost finished.

Into Townsville for a few weeks with work, sleeping in a tent in a field near a busy road isn't that bad really, when you're tired you soon acclimatize. Flew in yesterday from NZ and after unpacking and orientating myself we had the day to ourselves. I headed out for an early coffee before breakfast and after that I headed our for my first foray into Townsville. With not many transport options aside from Shanks's pony I covered over 27km of ground, but suffered with a swollen foot for a few days afterwards. Started off with a run of 5 or 6 DNFs, but soon turned it around afterwards. Thanks to all COs for their hides found today.

In the Townsville area with Selva Girls to pick up some solved puzzles, Challenge caches and anything else that gets in the way. We found an interesting collection of caches in some nice areas and this was one of them. Tree climbs, tree fishing and hanging off rocks, all part of the fun.

One last cache and once we arrived at GZ the cache was soon in hand. Log signed and all returned as found.

I haven’t been concentrating on mysteries lately but I wondered how many Along the river that I had done, and knew they mostly had the PowerTrail attribute so I thought I’d check how many I have done. Turns out with todays find I tally up 121 which is more than enough.
Always good to pick up a D5 and maybe a local geokid who is wanting to do his DT grid might look around the map and see what he need to complete it. 19 of these isn’t many to do when they are so close to each other.
The locals had a ripper of a fire happening in this park closer to the water. Speaking of fire, it’s time to get back to viewing House of the Dragon. Thanks for the cache geocachingburgo

Power Trails! Such a great way to get the numbers up and off on very quickly all in one day. I think we definitely did a bit of this in Townsville over the Mega in April.

Thanks Geocaching Townsville!

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 14. Townsville post Mega section Day 2. For my last day in Townsville, I joined TikvaNZ for another section of the Ross River power trail, with a bit of on and off again rain and a closed section we did pretty well. After that I set myself a list of puzzles and other non -trad caches to find for the day, which all took a lot longer than I expected, not to mention the ongoing rain all day. It has been a wonderful time in Townsville, and I have many more caches to get, so hopefully I will get to pass through again later in the year.

Catching up with late logs.

Today we were out and about caching with Geoturtle37, Papi4506 & micaparamedic planning an easy day with some sight seeing and some targeted targeted caches that we wanted to get.

When we left Melbourne we had plans of hiring push bikes and doing this entire series but it seems that we are all made of sugar and would dissolve if we get wet so the rain put paid to this plan. Today we were just picking up a selected few.

The rain had eased again and we made our way to gz where the cache was found relatively quickly and our names were added to the log.

To save room in the smaller logs we signed as "The Vics"

Day 11 of our trek to the Townsville Mega and back with fitzy_1965 and two of my geo-kids Death_killer & my_name_jeff_1.

Today we started the long-haul home. We picked up a few last caches in Townsville on the way out then cached our way South to the Mackay area with Sol de lune and LuckyL10n. It was another long but productive day which included picking up several counties, lots of letterboxes and others in between the intermittent rain. We parted ways with SDL & LL and managed to find a great Caravan Park in Sarina and set up our tents for the last time. We played darts and Trivial Pursuit into the night.

All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned. Thanks to all the CO’s.

27,833. Found with minniek during our Grand Townsville Trek up to CacheQLD's Townsville Mega Event over Easter.

Day 12 of our Townsville Trek, and we packed up from the Hotel then we managed a few caches around Townsville today before starting the long haul south to home. Met up with Sol de Lune and LuckyL10n again and cached together for the day. This was a fun final challenge to pick up before leaving Townsville. Quick find at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, then continued along to the next cache on our list.

Thanks GeocachingTownsville !!

Day fourteen of the Townsville Mega adventure with Sol de lune. Today we set off on our homeward journey. After packing up the geomobile, we collected a few more caches in and around Townsville with fitzy_65 and minniek, before hitting the road, final destination Mackay. Collected a few more caches along the way, including a few more in the "Armed Services" series south of Mackay before pulling up stumps in Koumala for the night. All caches were found in good order and signed LL, Sdl, f65 and mk or similar. Adding this one as a note and will claim a find once I confirm that I qualify for the challenge. Day 14 of the road trip to Townsville to with LuckyL10n and today all about the caches around town.

The mega is over and we are leaving town today for the 6/7 day road trip to get home to Canberra. However, leaving town didn't mean we couldn't grab another 5 or so caches as we made out towards the highway south.

No issues with these ones and our names were soon in the log books....and then it really was time to get the hell out of dodge. Sad but true....

Many thanks again to the CO's of all caches...and hope you've enjoy reading all the logs...cut n past and individual ones.

During the Easter long weekend, it was all about the Townsville Mega event! Highlights included a hike at Cape Pallarenda Conservation Peak, walks atop the local mountains of Mount Stuart, Castle Hill, and Mount Louisa, checking out a few shady spots along Ross River, sewer pipe / tunnel adventures, and a scuba dive to see the Museum of Underwater Art at John Brewer Reef. The Mega events themselves were fantastic: Gadget lab caches, GPS maze, trivia night, tree planting CITO, and Cal's Escape Room. There was also plenty of geocaching to be had, such as power trailing through the geoarts The Saint and the Book, and the collection of challenge caches at Bushland Beach mudflats. My view of Townsville had completely changed from my trip experience, and much kudos to the Cache Qld Townsville Mega Committee.

Our next area of interest for e.gregory1 and I was some of the more interesting Ross River Power Trail (RRPT) geocaches along Riverway Drive. With no boat TOTT with us, our scope remained to those that could be accessed by land. With e.gregory1 already finding this on a previous Townsville trip, I managed to convince him in making a quick stop for me. After a strategic location to park the car, I took a jog to GZ, and after making a few loops searching around, I eventually found the cache staring back at me. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. We decided to sign the geocache as DWEG1 (Davidwazza and e.gregory1) to save space in the logbook. Thanks GeocachingTownsville for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

I've certainly done my fair share of power trail days, including South Australia's fishing line series (I think we clocked up over 1000 in a day!). However, I don't believe any of those have the required power trail attribute, but relying on all of my other found geoarts and power trails, this challenge wasn't too difficult.
I used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8ZH5T/54352 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if I qualified for this challenge, and I did.

A ten day mega trip was arranged with Stainless steel rat and Budgietas. We flew into Cairns and out of Mackay, with the majority of the time in and around Townsville. We found a huge variety of caches and although our find count was a little lower than we would have liked, some of the high D/T caches more than made up for that. I really appreciate the effort of the local COs and all the people involved in hosting the mega and associated activities. I enjoyed catching up with many of our caching buddies, and make some new ones too!
Thanks for a great mega trip!

Sunday is normally a day for a relaxing start to the day but not this Sunday we were out the door nice and early to attend the tree planting only stopping to grab a coffee along the way but all the work had been done by some very early birds so we did some litter picking to make up for it.
Another great day in Queensland caching.

This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!

Thanks for the cache.

Day 10 of a 3 week holiday driving from Canberra to Townsville and back to attend the Mega. Today team FATZ (Fox in Jox, AngelG27, ZQX and I) cached from Pallarendra to the City, then picked off a few desirable caches near Ross River. Cache easily found. TFTC.

According to [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8ZH5T/54352 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") I qualified for this challenge with 427 caches found with "Power trail" attribute.

--------------------------------------

This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

Cache 8826 on 17 Apr 2022.

Up in Townsville from CBR for the Mega with TikvaNZ, Fox in Jox and ZQX and thousands of other CBR cachers! So many interesting caches to find while in the area, we will sadly not be able to get to all of them. But happy to get some warmth and sunshine while out and about, which has been sadly lacking in the ACT this summer. This was also a chance to use up some flight credits from a cancelled trip to the USA in August 2020 before they expired. Many puzzles solved before travelling, either individually or collectively, and a few solved on the run!

Today: the plan is to head north after the CITO to grab a few challenge caches and a other tasty ones and then head south to knock over a few of the Saint puzzles. But as usual, plans change and we ended up caching in and around the Ross River and Mount Low in the afternoon.

This cache: quick find at GZ!

After having car hire troubles for the majority of the day, I received new wheels, and so headed out tonight to try and find a few caches. This was nearby, and had no worries with qualifying, and it was first cab off the rank.

In town for the mega, using caching as a guide to show us the best of what the region has to offer.

Checker says I have 449 finds with this attribute, which makes me think there are a lot of power trail caches out there without the attribute Smile

Great idea for a challenge

**This Cache:**

I must admit that I have lost a lot of interest in powertrails the last couple years, I used to be happy to do them but now I mostly avoid them unless they have some good statistics attached or I am with a group who is keen! I enjoy picking up caches in powertrails at home though when I am working, 1 by 1 though over long periods of time, I find that more entertaining! Thanks for the challenge though, a very attractive D/T rating! Interesting that they now have an attribute, I would have thought that spotting a powertrail was pretty easy Razz and how exactly do you define a powertrail? Might have to research that!

**Today:**

Day 11 of my road trip from Canberra - Townsville Mega Event! Big Grin
**Found with sebass19**

Today started with a long drive, Port Douglas - Townsville, we needed to arrive by 10:30am to drop off taytayy1 at the airport, which meant we were on the road before the sun was up!

I then had a short amount of time alone to fill in whilst waiting for sebass19 to arrive in Townsville after a flight from Canberra to join me for mega festivities!

He soon joined me, we filled ourselves up with food for the afternoon, and started caching non-stop like crazy for the rest of the day with the final cache find at 10:15pm! Already done fishing caches, events, tunnels and tree climbs - and it was only day 1 in TSV!

MEGA trip - day 1

After an early morning flight for a week of caching in Townsville, we grabbed a few at Castle Hill before meeting up with the bug who was helping with setup of the maze. We didn't quite have a plan but enjoyed zigzagging around the suburbs picking up a bunch of solved caches.

I had a few hours this morning before I had to drive home and had the mountain bike packed so decided to do some of this trail, I didn't have time to finish it so will be back another day.
Overall I liked the array of different caches with some being an easy ride all the way to the cache and others needing some tree climbing/fishing ability.
Most of the caches and logs were in good order.

Many thanks to the CO's for placing.

I still fall a few short so signed the log and will revisit another day Smile
