Logs
Checked on this cache last month and the log was fine, but the container was encased in an ant mound. Returned today and freed the container with the aid of a metal stake and a hammer. Cache is still under the same rocks but behind a portal.
This cache is fine but be advised that the Weir Boat Ramp in Dave Chapman Park was closed for the wet season on 2nd Dec, give it until Easter........
12791 Located by baby&Mrs gopher 1130. Very dry out here ATM. Wary of wriggling sticks in the grass and under logs and in rocks on the ground. SL Tnx Cachedin NQ
We're in Charters Towers for a few days and today we decided to head over to the Weir park and grab some of the land based geocaches here.

Think we've been here more than the finders! Cache is in good condition once I remembered which rock it was under....
After a break for lunch, Konie and I decided to head out to the weir. This puzzle had beensolved for some time, so we decided to stop off at GZ. There, we searched and searched and even found an obvious spot with its door open, but, alas, no cache.
No luck at this one despite an extensive search. We saw that it had been down for a while so decided to leave it and the others for another day.
Thanks for the hunt.

Had hoped 'early June' would be this week, but alas the council are still maintaining the boat ramp and the park is closed. There was a flood in the river last month!

A bit dry for a boat ramp up here! But once again we’re pleased to find the container after signing the log. Had to look for a few mins before we found it.
After a great campfire meal last night at the van park we are staying at, and an even better nights sleep, we have set out to find the caches around the weir. Just a quick deviation at the local market where we picked up a homemade apple pie, fruitcake and some hedgehog and we were on our way. What a lovely community Charters Towers has, with some fantastic spots to visit and history to learn about.
We would like to thank all of the local CO’s for putting out all the caches we have found. We read only a few days ago that while the numbers of people who are geocaching is growing, the number hiding caches is actually falling. So as we regularly say, the CO’s are the most important part of the geocaching world. Without you we would have nothing. You have our sincere appreciation.

Grabbed along our travels in this great country. Decided to tackle the puzzle on the spot and soon had the co-ords and cache in hand. TFTC Cachedin NQ.

Having solved this just after my last visit to the Towers, I took a leisurely drive out to fill in the log. This is the last cache in the Towers area I can do without a boat. Thanks for the cache.
Having heard that we were going to look at the weir today, I thought I'd better check what caches were in the area. Hmm, a mystery one! Did the puzzle and reached the correct co ordinates before heading out of town. We visited the awesome weir and reflected on what it would look like when flooding. A young fisherman filled us in on that and also what fish he had caught in the river. We then headed out to the boat ramp and these couple of caches. Thanks for bringing me here and thanks for the cache.
The council and Martime Queensland have opened the boat ramp.

Due to rainfall upstream the council have closed the boat ramp and Dave Chapman Park.
Inevitably on a long trip when many geocaches are being found, some get missed. Unfortunately, at the time, this was one of them. So, although out of chronological order, I am logging them today for simplicity. So my apologies for the generic log and the out of date sequence.
Our trip commenced on Friday November 28th and concluded on Tuesday December 22nd. During that time, we visited caches in Maryborough, Childers, Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Sarina, Mackay, Bowen, Townsville and Cairns, with other places in between like Proserpine, Home Hill, Ayr, Ingham to name just a few, with many wonderful single stop caches along the way.
Our party consisted of myself, hatzofff, grannysmith1947, and on occasion, youngoldfella.
Log signed and cache replaced as found. TFTC, Cachedin NQ.

Day 13 of a road trip to North Qld and having a day trip to Charters Towers from Townsville with grannysmith1947, hatzofff and RoddyC.
Such an enjoyable visit to this town and have only once passed through when I was at a young age and now get to really appreciate the old history here.
Apologies for the generic logs but I must make a special mention of the awesome hospitality and assistance we received on our visit by the local CO's.

I’d heard that these were in the planning and was excited to pick up some paddle caches at a location I’ve not visited before.
The adventure didn’t get off to a good start as the electric pump failed and the SUP pump didn’t fit the dingy properly so lung power had to be employed. 30 minutes of that had me well and truly ready for a dip. When we were finally on the water I had to do a quick U turn as I’d forgotten a pen.
No problems after that and an enjoyable paddle in a picturesque location ensued.
Back on dry land for this after completing the jigsaw relatively quickly when it was published. A jigsaw of this size is tolerable.
Thanks CachedinNQ for placing these and bringing us here.
Plenty more river here to enjoy in the future I hope. Might bring the boat and the SUP for speedy retrieval if that eventuates.

22/9/20 18:58 As you can see by my logged photo, it was a wee bit dark paddling back from the other side of the river , packing up the yak, and wandering to the GZ. A pleasant enough jigsaw that i just relaxingly completed it and waited to head out this way. I swapped the unactivated trackable i retrieved from your enjoyable wherigo as i swapped it for the trackable that Liz and Bruce left. I also grabbed said caching royalties pathtag. TFTC Cachedin NQ
After us being very we'ird about doing this cache, we were finally able to get our name in the book. Love this area and I can see it would be a popular spot for the locals. Thanks Cachedin NQ. Left our pathtag and a trackable. Took the unactivated train trackable from the MB Mega to give to a little geocaching mate of ours who is mad keen on trains. Fav point alloc for this cache and our little adventure.
I left this *FTF* as long as I could stand and headed out on my lunch break. Such a beautiful spot we have out here at the river. Couldn’t resist the pirate coin so left another inactivated trackable for the second to find. Love a quick easy puzzle - these are my favourite. Thankyou again Cachedin NQ I think I now owe a gazillion to the region! Fav point from me
