So back again after recent event and talking to yesterdays finders. Was a quick find this time around. How embarrassing . TFTC
Eel I really suck at geocaching. I returned here seeing that 2 cachers had found this one yesterday. I spent another 10 minutes hunting around all the magnetic objects at GZ and all I found again was broken glass and a wet baggie with some parts instructions inside. . TFTH
Thanks NickandAbb for placing Piping Lane. Swampy and I headed back to plunder more of the Northern coast over the Hobart Show long weekend. 4 day long weekend for 1 days annual leave. Sweet. This is day 2. Devonport and surrounds. At least my log is not full of bad 80s references. This run has us finding both GC and GCA caches. So many caches, so little time. This is my GC find #2147 and was found on 25/10/2024 at 16:57FTF: Found with: SwampyWeather: fairMuggles: noneLight level: goodCache condition: goodDistance from GZ: Your cache was visited by my trackables: TB9QQD2, TB9KZ39 and TB7HH81
Hi NickandAbb. Today we found your cache on the Devo trip for the year. VK7HCH and I hatched yet another plan to whip it up to the north to continue our plundering of caches both GC and GCA. As there are so many caches in this area we had freedom of choice to do those we wished to. We have solved a few puzzles so we can find those and lots of others. Although I didnt find the girl U want, the caches were enough. Its a beautiful world here in Tassie. Thanks for hiding the cache for us to find today. Finding this cache takes my GC finds to 5206 and I found it on Friday 25 Oct 2024FTF: NoMates: VK7HCHMuggles: Condition: GoodWeather: slightly cloudyMy favorites:Creative - Back to the future 1 by peaches (GCA5JYD)Hardest - Men in Black Holes by SG-3 (Archived)Most visited - Dragons Lair by Shagzter (GC2E33)Tractable also visited your cache
Tasmania Trip Day 3. I was really happy to make the overnight crossing to Tasmania without any issues at all. The slight rolling did not even tip me out of bed. Getting up in time to disembark around 5.45 am was the only challenge, but I did get to visit two caches in the dark before breakfast. I spent quite a bit of the morning caching around Devonport and along he waterfront before circling out a bit to find the four counties on offer before I started along to Burnie, which was a lot closer than I realised. I visited a few interesting locations and then got set up at my accommodation in Burnie. It is supposed to be a heat wave, but it seems pretty cool here to me.I headed to the west of town to cross the county line to check out a few caches out here. Thanks for the cache NickandAbb45810.16 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & August 2017 Connecting with the Universe A#364**Albida**
In Tassie for the next few months. So many great places to visit and so many different caches to find. Not sure how I missed this last time but it was an easy enough find today with Reeder2Reeder, after visiting friends nearby. Thanks NickandAbb for placing the cache and doing the maintenance needed, so we can find this cache.
Found this one under the watchful eye of a curious cow nearby.
All good with it.

TFTC,
Piping Lane, wow what a horse.
Returned from King Island yesterday and headed to Devonport for a few nights before the start of this years National Riley Rally. After settling into our accommodation we came out to purchase a few groceries and visit this LGA.
Changed the log and left the full log in the next cache for the CO to collect.
Visited trackables.

Found this one on a overcast still quite warm with a bit of breeze. A good hide.
Cache is still there, but had been moved slightly from original position. log is almost full but I will replace soon.
A second find today from Merilyn! A fairy quick find with the weather getting colder, again the cache was in good condition. Thanks for this cache and others! - abb
On my way home from a few days R&R in Devonport, decided to do a few caches on the way out. Luckily I made a quick find, as there was lots of traffic about today on this busy little roundabout. Could have been here for a while, especially because once I retrieved the cache and was heading back to the privacy of the car to sign it ……I dropped the log and part of the cache container in the long grass. OMG! Log was easy to see but had to hunt around for the other bit - and thank heavens I found it. It could have been a disaster. TFTC.
A very special find for me. Piping Lane's owner Ray Trinder was a friend I was lucky enough top actually hold the Cup Piping Lane won.
Thanks Heaps!!
Thanks Heaps!!
A great horse who triumphed in 72 when Gunsynd was the favourite.
An easy find here.

Out and about early this morning loving local stories like this one. TFTC (yes it is still dark)
A quick find and sign at about 13:10 on Monday 22 March 2021.
Now it's time to go book in to my accommodation, go shopping a bit, grab drinks, come back to cabin, log a few finds, go for walk along northern foreshore grab more hides {watch the Spirit come in} then come back to log again... that's my caching day in a nutshell
The log within the cache is dry [^]

Out and about caching with Tassie Trekkers around Port Sorell, Squeaking Point, Shearwater and Hawley area and this was one that was targetted. An absolutely glorious day to be out caching. TFTC
On the way to the event, What a horse one of Tassie's finest.
Had an idea where it might be and found, log signed and returned.

A quick drive up here to collect a few caches today, I had heard good things about this section and especially the multi cache, only 4 finds for the day. Quick stop here to find this one, good to fi d something different, cache and contents are all good
We needed a find today to fill a gap on our caching calendar so mr sharnie's tribe decided to try this one on his way to visit a family member. A quick find with the aid of accurate coordinates and a useful hint. TFTC
Well, finally had a day to go and do some caching and had some good weather!!!!
The plan was to get the cache "Shale Cliff" and some puzzles that had been solved around Ulverstone, then on to Penguin, and hopefully a few around Devonport on the way home. Was up early and out the drop before 6. The drive to Devonport was fairly boring with the GeoKids, as we had done this road so many times before, but worth it considering the goal.
Our target was for 50 GC caches to get my yearly tally to 500 and total GC to 5500. Luckily I was successful in this

Great to see the monument to Piping Lane near the GZ.

Thanks for the cache. Apologies for the generic cache. Spent four days 'up north; with Lil Rafa and the GeoGSP. Today was day 2, sunshine after yesterday's deluge of rain. Today we found some in Devonport, returned to Latrobe to find a couple, some on our way to our accommodation, and then some in Port Sorell where we were staying.
what a beautiful day sunny today than yesterday poured raining ...
Nice walked to easy spot, sign the log with good dry as no trouble...
thank you MerilynTas for greatly

Spending a few days up north with RLD4963. Great weather for caching today! Well, we couldn't drive past this one, it was just a tiny diversion, and a nice quick find at GZ.

Easy find. Seems a bit of a waste to have such a great cache in a spot where a an eclipse run with magnet would have done. Found, stamped and replaced, with Maggie and Mollie, my GeoWesties, while roaming around Tasmania with our motorhome “Mylittlebus” looking for content for our TASMANIA ALL OVER facebook. Join us there. Thanks for placing this cache (and others), keeping us on our exploring toes.
We were chasing our 600th find, so this was the perfect time to complete this series of caches which had been on our must find listed for some time. We must have picked a quiet one evening, as we didn't have any issue with muggles!
Thank you for a great hide.
Thank you for a great hide.
First cache for the day as I headed to Port Sorell to visit family.
There was another car parked near GZ so had to wait quite a while before I could look for this one. Once I was able to search a quick find was made of a cache type that I haven't encountered for a while. They used to be quite popular a few years back though.
I knew the Trinder family and purchased a brother to Piping Lane which came from them originally. When Piping Lane won the Melbourne Cup Mr Trinder bought any horse he could get his hands on by the same stallion Lanesborough, but unfortunately none of the others were any good. The horse I had was Flinders Lane, or Matty, as we called him and he was a beautiful natured horse and a great eventer for me.
I am so glad that when the Trinder house was demolished and the business set up here that the grave site and memorial for Piping Lane was left standing.
Thanks for the cache and the trip down memory lane.

Just catching up with my old logs before I forget all about it.
Well this week myself and Goose were meant to be on the mainland at a Mega and we did think we would be going to this one but with Victoria letting the side down and restrictions on moving between states back in place all the Mega's we canceled or postponed.
With time booked off work we came up with a plan to do a lap of Tassie and collect some of the more out of the way caches in the West and then pick up some others on the North Coast before hitting Launy and then heading South to go home.
From filling the car on Monday to filling again when we got home on Saturday we covered just over 1800Kms, along the way we picked up 18 GCA caches, 57 GC caches, 1 puncture, 1 chipped windscreen and 1 engine warning light.

I found this one on the ground but may have knocked it off myself without realizing. After SSR and I logged it, I replaced it in the only spot I could have dislodged it from.
Thanks MerilynTas
Thanks MerilynTas
The second of your caches found this evening after work heading home, scoped the area out this morning on my way to work and while I thought I knew what I would find I was pleasantly surprised by the placement and cache. Love the Melbourne Cup, I was in Grade 6 in 1972 when Piping Lane won. I can distinctly remember Dad hooting and hollering for the Tassie champ. Thanks again for the cache and bringing back memories. All good at GZ thanks MerilynTas.
Nice neat little hide in the logical place we have seen used before. By the way, we didn't know Phar Lap's memorial was adjacent to #2, so that was a little bit of local trivia knowledge we have. TFTC Merilyn.
The Trinder family were very well known in the Devonport area. So when Piping Lane got a start in the 1972 Melbourne Cup, the local horse attracted great interest with the bookies. There were many and long celebrations on the evening of the first Tuesday in November 1972 in Devonport and surrounds. The Trinders were very generous, allowing Piping Lane to appear at local community events for many years after. So in some ways, this cache is a celebration of a local heroes (the horse and the family). Accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. the cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks MerilynTas for the cache and for highlighting important local history.
Hi MerilynTas....interesting history re Piping Lane which I didn't know.
